Hi All,
I have a dhd unbranded, radio s off and rooted but still running the stock rom but with a custom kernel for overclocking. It was just s off the other day and i asked a question about returning to factory settings and was advised to flash radio s off so if i want to return from factory rom to custom it can be done. I checked bootlander and the cid info which was htc_001 and the bootloader would flash up the recovery img etc but after i've done radio s off it showed cid11111111, so i flashed the android 2.2.1 ruu, unfortunately after having been running it overclocked at 1.4 i found it a little slow and not as smooth so i went into bootloader to reflash the backup of previous rom but says there is no imgs in p something .zip ( on on screen longer enough to see ) also the cid info is now missing. Had to flash the 1.32.405.6 ruu and then root and cwm and revert that way.
Is that normal after using radio s off for the boot recovery img to vanish or am i missing something.
Still new to android so please be gentle
Cheers Simon
not sure but you need to be ENG S-OFF to revert to previous backup not just radio s-off. again not sure cause i just moved from Desire to DHD.

Hi there,
After unlocking my Desire HD with the official HTCdev bootloader unlock service I installed Clockwork 5.0.2.7111102. From here I installed SuperUser 2.3.6.3 and it seems I have root access.
Both through ROM Manager as manual through ClockWork I have tried to install several custom ROMs. I did wipe the user data beforehand etc. But after reboot every time it keeps hanging at the white HTC screen.
I havent made backup of previous version. My phone is stuck completly. I can do nothing but only new rom..
Can someone please help me with this issue? Many thanks!

Android 2.3.5
HTC sence 3.0
Software 3.12.405.1
Kernel 2.6.35.10-9931a37e
When you unlock using the HTC dev method you have to flash the boot.img separately.
Take the boot.img of whatever rom you want and flash it by running
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
For future reference the correct method is
1)flash rom in recovery
2)boot back into hboot and flash roms boot.img
4ext recovery has a new option of flashing boot.img when son all in the same step.(make it similar process to soff devices

You need to switch to S-OFF in order for flashing to be successful. Use this then once you boot into Hboot and see S-off, then you can try to flash the rom...
Hi guys. Could not find a straight up answer to my question due to the fact other people seem to do things different. Here is my question:
My phone came branded from Three UK. Firmware version was 1.26. Anyways i unlocked through HTCDev and flashed custom recovery. Anyways flashed ARHD latest version and that is based on 1.28 update.
Here is my main question.
Since i have done a backup of my stock rom on 1.26 can i just revert back to that and flash stock recovery and just update then OTA once an update is released? Or is there a different process to the whole thing? I know it is best not to flash a RUU since my phone is branded. But does the method i just suggested work? And can i still do it with unlock bootloader or does it need to be locked.
Any answers would be appreciated..Thanks
seriously no one knows the answer if i could restore my backup stock rom, flash stock recovery lock bootloader and then update OTA when my carrier releases it?
I did about the same thing yesterday but for different reasons. I wanted to make sure my radio and hboot were updated.
My process:
I reflashed the nandroid backup of my stock 1.26 rom first
flashed the stock kernel through fastboot
booted into the stock rom
downloaded the 1.28 OTA update and installed it
Reflashed the custom recovery
reflashed my custom rom
I hope it helps. So I didn't re-lock the bootloader first.

3rdeyer

Unbranded device, and I didn't relock the bootloader at all.
hello dudes... my cid no is "HTC__023"... when i first got the phone I made an OTA update when my bootloader had been still locked.... then i unlocked it, flashed a custom recovery, and flashed the ICS Android Revolution which i still hv now... ok i want to upgrade to jelly bean. i downloaded this stock RUU "RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.14.707.24_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_296434_signed"
which i thought was the correct one for me... it's saying that the image version is being updated from (Image version: 2.17.728.5) to (Image version: 3.14.707.24)... after it starts updating the signature, it gives me ((error 159: image error))... hv i missed sth ?
any solution plz even with a JB custom rom...
P.S.
I flashed a stock recovery and relocked bootloader before starting the update process.

I think that you have take a incorrect RUU and if i am correct your phone now is a.... XD!
Any ways i dont know a lot of RUU but seem to be incorrect because the numbers doent matxh "x.xx.728.x" "x.xx.707.x", and i think that these three numbers have to be the same!

If you are asking a question, you need to ask your question in the correct subforum, which I have moved this thread to.
There is no usable ruu for you, and i don't see a "new" nandroid backup either. But you can do this :
Download here your matching firmware. The HTC__023 one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
Place the file in the fastboot folder and rename it to firmware.zip
Put the phone in the bootloader and relock it. Then flash the firmware
Fastboot oem lock
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Do it multiple times until it says Oke, if it does not the first time !
Reboot the bootloader (hold power button and volume - button until you are in the bootloader)
Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and install a new JB rom of your choice
Even if the rom is stock or it's not possible.
In fact there is a JB stock nandroid you can use. But you have to update the hboot first
http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/files/file/186-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-htc-023-3177281/
ok but i meant to say can i use ANY stock rom of my choice coz i want full arabic support or maybe i shd stick to my cid -related roms?
When you upgraded the hboot you can use any rom out here. Custom roms, stock rom.....whatever you want. The only cid related rom here is that stock nandroid backup i linked you. 99% of the custom roms here are based on the wwe base.
Thank you very much for giving a helping hand... it worked... i flashed the firmware successfully ... one last thing: generally, we flash a stock recovery and relock the bootloader before we install a stock RUU using the computer i mean ... Can i now, after flashing the firmware, install ANY stock RUU, arabic to be specific, using the computer as usual without flashing a stock recovery and locking my bootloader?
thank you
No you must flash a custom recovery and flash a custom rom. Or you must restore the stock nandroid backup.
You can't run a ruu. There is no ruu available for you to use.
2 choices :
1: install any custom JB rom
2: restore the stock 3.17 nandroid backup, flash back the stock 3.17 recovery. Then you be able to install official OTA
after i flashed the firmware and twrp jb recovery i cant access the sd card from the recovery anymore... pc says Mtp failed
any ideas?
ah ok got it sorted out.. i tried cwm recovery and it mounted successfully ....
Oke cool,so its all sorted now ?
Yes got it all .. thank you
However, as you can see in the attached image the internal storage is nearly full. Well I just flashed the Rom as you know. I wonder what the problem could be.

Check the installed apps list. Maybe the user installed apps before making the nandroid backup
So I got an M8 recently, unlocked bootloader with HTCDev and flashed a rom without upgrading the firmware, so later I restored my stock backup and downloaded the OTA update which was for 2.22.401.5. But my recovery wasn't stock so it wouldn't flash then long story short I soft bricked and did a factory reset from hboot.
So now I flashed stock recovery but since I factory reset my original backup was gone, and for some reason Wi-Fi does not turn on at all after I did the factory reset. I downloaded a TWRP backup from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710735 (The Telus one, I am with Telus) and when I go to download the OTA update it gives me the option to download and install 1.55.661.4 instead of the more recent version.
I am S-On and I have read that flashing an RUU for a firmware older than yours will hard brick your phone and I definitely don't want that, so what I'm asking is can I download and install this 1.55.661.4 OTA then install a more recent one afterwards or will that brick my phone? And if so how should I go about updating firmware?
Thanks

Factory reset (wipe data, Dalvik and cached) by definition does not delete internal storage where nandroids are stored. Either you specifically went into TWRP Advanced Wipe settings and wiped storage (which wasn't necessary) or you did a factory reset in bootloader which on a modded phone may corrupt internal storage.
WiFi not working is a known issue with outdated firmware + 2.22 Sense ROM. So updated firmware will fix this.

This is not correct. With S-on, flashing an older RUU will flash (version check will fail). With S-off, it will not brick the phone, and will actually work correctly (re-image the phone to the older RUU).
But its not clear to me whether your phone even has firmware/software that is "newer" than the RUU or OTA you are referring to. If the hboot and radio was never changed, and the ROM and recovery were returned to the "older" version, then nothing is in fact "newer" anymore.
RUU is actually a safer proposition than OTA in my opinion. But do you know for fact that an RUU exists for your version (not many versions do)?
OTAs with S-on, should work, but do you know for a fact that everything on the phone (ROM, recovery, hboot, radio, etc.) is now restored (or never changed) to whatever software number directly preceding 1.55? If not, with S-on the OTA will fail version check and not install. Further, if OTA is not installed in sequence, this actually is a brick risk (in contrast with RUU). Although the last part is probably only possible with s-off.
Thanks for the reply, how can I check the version of my recovery to make sure it matches my rom version number? I am using recovery downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52734619&postcount=14 but the recovery doesn't mention a version number. Is it safe to assume that the recovery and nandroid backup linked in that post are for the same version, since they both came from the same person's backup?
In phone settings it shows my software version number as 1.12.661.17, and in hboot my radio is 1.16.2133156, hboot version is 3.16, but am I correct in assuming that my radio or hboot versions could not have changed, since I don't have s-off and haven't flashed anything other than the recovery and TWRP backup in the linked post? Do these version numbers match up properly for me to try downloading the OTA? Thanks again

I don't know how else to confirm recovery. But if you used the nandroid from that same post, its probably safe to assume they go together.
You are right that with S-on, you can't have modified hboot or radio. So if you haven't gotten any OTAs, and you were originally on 1.12 when you got the phone, those should be okay.
In this instance S-on is kind of a good thing. If the OTA finds anything amiss, it will just fail whatever security check and fail to install. Although S-on is the whole reason you're at this point in the first place.
I was able to install the OTA without problem, as well as download and install the 2.23 OTA, thanks for all your help!
i have a t-mobile version of htc one m8 but when flashing ROMs , i flash international version of the ROM which i'm flashing. The phone is sim-unlocked.
Lately i'm having problem of my phone getting stuck on boot and only way out is wipe cache and dalvik on every time i reboot. And also GPS is not working (tried every fix but no avail) I'm guessing his is some firmware problem.
So the thing is I want to get back to Android 4.4.4 version ( on which it was earlier before i flashed any Lollipop rom , so that i could flash T-mobile's OTA to Lollipop back ( for firmware update ) and after reading and some research , i have understood that i have to be stock recovery and relock the bootloader and get T-mobile RUU ( very confused about RUU thing)
Could someone confirm if this is the correct procedure and explain what steps i need to follow IN ORDER to get this done ( and if links to corresponding guides i will be really helpful) .
I AM S-ON.
Hboot - 3.19
Radio - 1.22.213311491.08G
Please help , really frustrated by these issues and apparently previous threads of mine have gone unanswered.
Unfortunately, if you want to revert to KK (or any older version), you will have to be S-off to do so. So, pay the $25, get S-off (which will helpfully unlock your bootloader at the same time), run T-Mobile RUU for desired version.
However, even if you are S-on, you should be able to use a current or newer RUU to get the firmware up to date, then move on to installing the ROM of your choice. You are probably better off going to the latest firmware and running an alternate ROM, but that's just me.

So if i were to follow S-on steps , i will have to first flash stock recovery , relock bootloader and run t-mobile RUU for firmware upgrade ?
When i relock bootloader everything will be wiped , right ?
So i connect my phone to pc with relocked bootloader and stock recovery and run t-mobile latest RUU on windows ?
Is this the correct procedure?

That is all true; except you do not need to install stock recovery to RUU.
Stock recovery is only needed to OTA, not for RUU.
