Friends,
My dumb (backside) updated my root rom, but I cannot remember whose thread it was. I am not having any sort of issues, in fact this is the best rom I have used so far, but I would like to keep up with this version and all updates. Here is a screen shot of my device software info, please help. I promise not to let this happen again.

I may be wrong but it looks to me like you are on the official update. Do you still have root? Is your phone still s-off?
I do. I am still using all of my root only apps. Wifi tether, root explorer, etc. In fact I changed roms yesterday and did not like it so I used my nandroid to recover the rom.

Everything looks like stock to me.
So it is a stock rom rooted? Ok. Doesn't bother me at all. Thanks. I am updated and still rooted.

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
There are more than one dev who posted a rooted stock ROM so its hard to tell. When a new OTA comes out, a rooted stock ROM would be available soon after.
Thank you for all of the responses, I am enlightened. I am simply going to hold on this nandroid file and give the GB beta that is burning a hole in my pocket a try.

First, has anyone had success loading this on w/o root? Does the update delete everything on my phone? How smooth does it run?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
of your talking about the PCIMG.zip that was leaked , there is no reason for root its a signed image by HTC so you flash it to your phone officialy, now if you are looking into the other custom Gingerbread, those have root and you will need a custom revovery
and yes i flashed it on my softbrick g2 and it runs smooths really smooth have seen any real issue with it
Yes I'm talking of the official signed one. Not looking to root yet. Will it delete my data?

to be honest i dont really know... my g2 was softbricked so couldnt say, i dont think it would also be warn there is no downgrade method or a root method when you do this flash
If its smooth and useable that's not a problem.

Yes, the PC10IMG.zip will delete all data on the phone. I used it on my girls unrooted phone. Which doesn't make sense, since it will be OTA update someday.. and looks like it'll be deleting peoples data..but doesn't bother her or me really.. atleast the update will be running on a wiped clean system..

I'm new so not sure if there was something I could have done differently, but my update wiped it clean. I'm actually happy with the clean wipe because it gave me the chance and the reason to rebuild my homescreens and only install the apps I actually used, my phone had gotten a little bloated with some unused apps. I know the OTA will be out soon but I'm impatient and wanted it NOW.
Anyone else have an experience with the update.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
yea since its a PCIMG it will do that cause your flashing a whole new system into it and its gonna wipe it, its not a incremantal update, where it would back up your data then flash new rom and pout your data back,

Sounds like you might have had a bad flash or something and didn't get root on properly. Have you tried doing it again? Are you doing it through ODIN or CWM?
Honestly don't let the ICS and JB goodness sway you... the new ROMs still have little issues here and there... GB was _AWESOME_

you know 3.0.5 is downgrading right? I started with 3.0.5 then 3.0.7 but then people said 3.0.7 wasn't working well for some on ics. 3.1.3 seems to work fine and dandy for the ics builds.. I know it's a downgrade, but I'm just saying it didn't work for me on Gingerbread 2.3.6 and your guide says for 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.3, and 4.0.4

@8Fishes I reflashed and it didn't work. That's why I ended up downgrading.

yeah now im just curious if 3.1.3 is suppose to support gingerbread. It'll be weird if it didn't. Is there an update to your superuser since you're on GB? if there is.. is it the 3.1.3 update? I'm way too lazy to test this out myself since i'm in the middle of testing other ROMs.

Former Evo owner here myself and must say this is a hell of a phone with a great set of roms. Now not as much choices as we had back in the day with the Evo but good roms none-the-less. I would do yourself a favor and really not read into too much of the user reviews here. I see a lot of user error and just terrible flashing habits and a lot of complaining about issues with roms that quite frankly are created by the users bad flashing habits.
You had some good suggestions in here and great choice of stable roms like tdjs rom jamison904 rom
CM9 or AOKP

I see an update in the Playstore, but I'm not willing to risk it at this point. @ Playaa thanks I'll weigh those options along with the other ROM that was suggested to me.
By the way, I read that in ICS there is a method for Tmobile to track tethering and start charging you for it even if you have a custom ROM. Is this so?

I'd love to know how this goes. I think I want to do the same thing. I'd rather just use freegee to re-lock it, then re-root after doing the JB update. However, if flashing the radios and then the stock rooted JB update is better then I'd do that. In fact I think that is the same steps as going with lifeless from ZV9 and if that is the case I may do that. Still, I'd love to know if this works while I try and figure out to go with Lifeless or Rooted Stock JB.

Hello everyone. My wife has a newly purchased S4 from Tmobile. We rooted it right away and installed TWRP. Everything else is stock. Even kept the bloatware hanging around... She has had some random reboots from time to time not often but like 3-4 times since she has had the phone. Google searches turn up random bits of info so I thought I'd ask the experts here at good olé XDA. I've seen some advice to factory reset but wouldn't that lose root? Also some say it could be SD card related.. There is no common theme to it happening.. I guess we could return it. I was hoping to avoid that though... Any thoughts? Thanks for any help!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes it will lose root but it's better than the phone rebooting itself alot so if it still does it then try to flash a rom and if it still does it it might be the phone then
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Factory reset won't actually loose root. Root stuff is stored in the system while factory resetting wipes the user's data. Factory reset through TWRP would be my first recommendation

Simply rooting does not. Touching system stuff can so yeah simply rooting wouldn't cause that.

What did she recently install? if anything. Some apps will cause random reboots. And the answers here are correct, you will not lose root doing a factory reset.

And the fact that both of you act like douches, plus the fact that he was a 14 year old boy and you're using the word "swag". And also the fact that you crested this account around the time he got banned. Hmmmm

If I was you I would Odin back to stock.
Then gaining root again is only a tiny problem.
CF-Auto Root literally takes about 25 seconds to root.
Refer to this thread to odin back to stock.

Refer to this video to root again.

You're probably getting reboots because of the method you used to root.
I was getting tons of problems with my phone because the way I previously rooted the device.
I used this way and I get absolutely no more problems.
Now, after you root with the above method, you will have to install a custom recovery (I recommend TWRP).
Do that through goomanager.
(Search goomanager in app store, install, open, hit menu, then hit "install custom recovery.)
Hope this helps.
Damn, Eflip douche is on a roll today.
Someone hasn't got laid in a while ;o.

Thanks for the info. She appears to be on an MDL baseband. Would it work with that? I forget exactly which thread I used to root it.. I used Odin and some zip files with TWRP and it seems like we had to do something with the bootloader... This was a few weeks ago.
And a follow up question. How would the rooting method effect the stability of the device, Causing RR added such?

Ah yes the TWRP root method.
That's the faulty method that is causing problems.
Once you odin to stock by following the steps in the thread above, everything will be taken off the phone, it will absolutely work with that baseband, yes.
Use the CF Autoroot method in the video I posted above and follow the steps i explained about goomanager.
You will love being rooted with TWRP from goomanager. You will then be able to flash custom roms which will make the phone a lot speedier and more responsive. In most cases, better battery life also.
(I am on the Darthstalker rom and it is super fast!)

Well great thanks! I will do this. We will most likely not flash a custom rom for her purposes. If I root per the method above would it be necessary to install TWRP via Goo? If we're not going to be flashing mods and roms to her phone I'm not sure what we would use it for...

No, it is NOT necessary to install TWRP, you can have the rooted device with the stock recovery on it with no problems .
