HTC Desire (unrevoked root) - Infinity reebot after OTA! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HTC Desire (unrevoked root) - Infinity reebot after OTA!
Please help me! the phone reebot reebot and reebot! how can i format or hard reset my android froyo with htc sense 2.2(hboot 0.93..)?
"Clear storage" not WOrk!

First, try to wipe the phone from Recovery menu. Access recovery by pressing Vol- and Power button utill system boots up.
Press Vol- to select Recovery, press Power button to choose recovery. When the red triangle is shown, press Both Vol+ and Power button together. Choose: Wipe data/factory reset, and then Choose: Reboot system.
If you continue to bootloop, I would suggest the easiest thing to do is download the 2.29.405.2 RUU from shipped-roms.com and run that (To flash the RUU, boot your phone into fastboot (power + back), connect your phone to the PC, wait until it says fastboot usb the run the RUU)
You will then be unrooted. You can then check for updates again or root your device.
If you receive any driver/USB associated errors when running the RUU, check that HTC Sync is installed, run as Administrator, and temporarily disable any AV software.
If you still have problems, then try the PB99IMG (rename the RUU to PB99IMG.zip and place to the root of your SD card, then flash via the Bootloader screen) method as it is a lot easier than the first method I mentioned. Just remember that if you were branded before you will need a Gold Card to allow this method to work.
If you do try the later method, remember to remove the PB99IMG.zip file from your SD card afterwards or else it will run if you ever go into recovery mode.

You can't apply official OTA on rooted devices!! You have to use RUU and root again. Or else this happens!

Go into recovery and flash the update.zip again. This will unroot your phone but you will be stuck with a superuser.apk which does nothing.

[Q] Soft Bricked Evo!!!! Help!!!

Help my friend soft bricked his EVO, (tried to do the steps in this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgOdvb8JBgc and now all it does is hang on boot logo(HTC loop), the only thing i can do is get into the Hboot, or the recovery from the hboot, and the recovery only shows a red triangle with no words, apparently it says S-off in the HBoot. Please help me provide me the necessary steps to get the phone working, or flashed back to stock.
don't worry guys i fixed it, by doing these steps
UNROOT GUIDE
NOTE: This will erase all data on the phone. (Will not erase data on the SDCard)
1) If your on Hboot 2.10 Download the PC36IMG.zip Here. If your on Hboot 2.02 Download the PC36IMG.zip here then Unrevoked s-on here rename the pc36img file to pc36img.zip copy that and the unrevoked s-on tool to the root of your sd
2) Power your off. Power the Phone back on into the boot loader by holding power and vol-down until your presented with a white screen.
3) It will scan for the pc36img.zip. Select no to flash. Select recovery from the menu. Once in recovery choose flash zip from the menu, and select unrevoked forever s-on.
4) When its done flashing select reboot from the menu.
5) From here either run the official ruu or boot back into the boot loader (see step 2). When it scans and ask you to flash the pc36img.zip select yes then yes to reboot.

Help, failed attempt of custom rom...

Hiya i wanted to root and CWM my new desire HD so i followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
Everything went fine and i got CWM up and running and installed MIUI but didnt like it so i wanted to go CM7 but i accidently went to the first sort of recovery mode (the one with the android on skateboards =)
http://www.nexus-lab.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/desire-hboot.jpg )
So it automatically started to install the HTC android 2.2 Ver 1.32.405.6
that went all fine but now all the apps keep automatically crashing but the worst bit is i cant seem to be able to access the recovery mode or CWM no matter how i press the volume buttons during start up i know the volume buttons work fine as they change volume etc but when i press them at start up its as if the phone ignores them and just countines to turn the phone on normally...
Im new to the desire hd but i do have experience from CWM from Dell Streak days...
Any help appreciated...
Power off phone.
HOLD vol dn, & then press Pwr On button once (Don't release vol dn until have Bootloader menu (HBOOT).
Use vol key to go to highlight Recovery, press pwr button once
Should boot into CWM Recovery (mine shows the HTC logo for a few secs first), if it's installed properly
Edit: If you still have the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard, it will ask if you want to install/update. NO.

Ive tried this but no matter how i press the vol dwn button it refuses to go into recovery mode and just boots up into normal sense...
You say all apps keep crashing,..........
If ROM Manager doesn't crash, you can "Reboot into Recovery" from there.
Hold on im getting something...
i can access the recovery bit but when i highlight the recovery button it gives me a red esclamation mark
so i ran a factory reset and the apps seem to be working for the moment
but still the red esclamation mark
i assume CWM didnt install properly then? but the rom manager says its installed fine but when i click on the boot into CWM it gives me the same symbol?

Hi there,
I think your phone might not be totally powering off, hence that's why you are not able to get into the bootloader [ the one with Android on skateboards ]
Try this: Make sure your phone is powering off completely before you try to boot into the bootloader. Go to go into Settings > Applications and uncheck the "FastBoot" option in order for it to power down completely.
Then try the same sequence again. Holding down the Volume Down button while starting up.
See if it works.
What happens when your in that ! screen, HOLD vol up & press power button once?
Also
You can also try to boot into Bootloader or Recovery via ADB commands.
Enusre USB debugging enabled and fastboot option disabled.
Check adb connection to phone first in CMD (Command prompt) type:
"adb devices"
you should get a serial number of the phone HTxxxxxxxxxx, meaning it can communicate ok
Then try either;
1. "adb reboot recovery"
2. "adb reboot fastboot"
Ive managed to fix it by going to rom manager and installing a previous version of CWM
Thanks all the guys for the help! XDA FTW
OH just a quick side note if i did every want to just say return everything to normal like how i got the Desire HD you know no CWM or custom roms just with the sense v1.7 how would i do that?
Make a CWM recovery of your Setup now, and also keep it on you pc for safe keeping. Never know if the sdcard becomes corrupted or not. Also make a note of which recovery version was made to produce the backup. Some are incompatable when trying to restore you backup with a different version.
If you mean normal, there are a few links around to revert to stock (if that's what you mean), and tools to help make s-on again. By flashing the stock RUU, you will lose root, and it will overwrite the recovery with stock recovery. If you had to made a goldcard prior to rooting, you may require this.
Added info from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
To go back to S-ON:
•Flash stock ROM (RUU)
•Temproot using Visionary
•Use my tool, do Stock CID and S-ON (enter brand CID if you had a branded device, see second post)
•Enjoy your factory-state phone

Adding on to what UpInTheAir said, "If you still have the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard, it will ask if you want to install/update."
Note:
If u have finished the Downgrading process and u r done with the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip, remove it from the SDcard, safekeep it on your PC somewhere (in case your might need it again, maybe).
If you do not remove it, each time that you startup into the bootloader [yes, the one with the Android on skateboards.. Hehe.. ], it would automatically scan and if it finds that PD98IMG.zip file, it would begin loading the image to install the 1.32 stock ROM.

Unrooting

This a copped post from djR3Z whom i thank for the guide in the first place. The reason that I am reposting this is because it took me countless hours and more help form other members to make this work for me. When I started this unroot process I did not have my HTC Sync drivers installed and when I ran the RUU program it would see my Evo for a second then lose the connection. After installing the HTC Sync drivers all went easy and I was unrooted in about 12 minutes. Again thank you to djR3Z and to all that commented on my original post for helping me get unrooted.
A lot of you have been asking for how to unroot the EVO, either because you're having problems and want to start over or you are returning your phone and need to have it unrooted. I've had nothing but trouble in the past trying to unroot using other methods, especially using the RUU on a PC. It always fails for me. Well here is the most simple guide to unroot!! Thanks to regaw for helping me with this, hosting, and the Unrevoked team for the S-ON tool!
HOW TO UNROOT THE EVO VIDEO WALKTHROUGH
How to Unroot the HTC EVO 4G
◄●REQUIRED DOWNLOADS●►
Unrevoked S-On Tool
PC36IMG
◄●SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you're comfortable with everything Android related(flashing, recovery, etc.) then its just 2 simple steps:
If you used Unrevoked Forever at any time, flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip from recovery until hboot shows S-ON
Flash the PC36IMG.zip from hboot
◄●DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you need a little more guidance, follow these instructions.
◄●If you have used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Make sure you have downloaded the files linked above. Do not extract them
Connect your phone to your computer via USB and change to "Disk Drive" by dragging down from the notification bar.
If you have NOT used Unrevoked Forever, skip to the instructions below. If you have, transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the root of your sdcard. Do NOT transfer the PC36IMG yet. It'll only cause a hassle and make this take longer.
Once complete, power off the phone
reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Depending on what recovery you're using, you need to flash a zip. Select the unrevoked-foreverson.zip that you just transferred and complete the flash.
When complete, power off the phone. Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. If it says S-ON at the top, select RECOVERY and skip to step 9. If it says S-OFF, repeat steps 5-7 Until it does.
◄●If you have NEVER used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Power off the phone and reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Connect via USB. There is an option for this in both Amon RA and Clockwork.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sdcard.
EJECT THE PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER and then turn off USB in Recovery
Power off the phone and reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen.
It should check the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the update. Press VOL UP for YES
Once complete, Press VOL UP to reboot.
You are now unrooted!

[Q] Unable to make a backup using HBOOT Recovery

Hi,
I am having an issue accessing Recovery to make a backup of my current ROM from HBOOT on my HTC Droid Incredible running Cyanogenmod 7.1.0. My phone was rooted using the unrEVOked method listed on the Cyanogenmod web page. I have attempted three methods to access recovery:
1. I load ROM Manager v5.0.0.6 on the phone and then select "Backup Current ROM." The phone reboots into HBOOT v0.92. I use the Volume Down button to highlight "Recovery" and then hit the Power button to select.
2. I load ROM Manager on the phone and then select "Reboot into Recovery." Once in HBOOT, the same steps from method one above.
3. While the phone is turned off I hold Volume Down and Power on the phone to boot into HBOOT directly. Once in HBOOT, the same step from method one above.
However, once I select "Recovery" from within HBOOT, it doesn't actually go into Recovery. Instead, it changes, possibly reloads HBOOT and says "FASTBOOT" at the top, and the selections are different - "Recovery" is no longer an option.
All that to say - I can't make a backup of my current ROM using HBOOT. Suggestions on how I can fix this?
Go into ROM Manager, advanced options, check erase recovery. Now flash recovery in ROM Manager. Reboot into recovery.
tried, unsuccessful

I tried doing that just now, unfortunately, no success. When booted into HBOOT it starts out at the FASTBOOT screen. I select BOOTLOADER which causes the white screen to appear briefly before giving me the bootloader options. However, upon selecting recovery it just flashes the HTC white screen again and puts me back in the FASTBOOt screen.
Assuming your s-off, flash cwm recovery thru hboot as a PB31IMG.zip. http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip. If that dosent work flash back to stock recovery http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/Stock_4.08.605.2/PB31IMG.zip, then reboot and flash back to cwm. Heres how to flash in hboot if you dont already know http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=79

[Q] Can't enter recovery from fastboot

edit: I managed to get to recovery by removing the sdcard, booting to fastboot, then entering recovery and hot-plugging the sdcard back to the slot.
Is fastboot supposed to act like that? What files do I have to delete from the sdcard to prevent it from happening again?
I am using Codefire X AOSP. All worked more or less well (occasional restarts) for the last weeks. However today I had to reboot and now the ROM is stuck at the codefire x logo.
After multiple times trying to reboot I decided to wipe and reflash. But when I press Power + Vol Down the fastboot menu comes up only briefly and then it says it found an update and if I want to install it.
The only two options are Yes (Vol Up) and No (Vol Down). When I press Vol Up the radio is reflashed, then the phone reboots. When I press Vol Down (not update) I get the option Press Power to Reboot. Nothing else.
I tried adb/fastboot but it doesn't seem to find the device. I tried adb both while the phone is in fastboot (or hboot) and while the codefire logo is displayed but it's not detected.
Any idea how I can enter recovery?
Take the radio file off your SD card with a card reader.
Thanks, fortunately I could boot to recovery by removing the sdcard, so after reflashing I'm now able to delete the file.
I think it's strange though that you can't boot to recovery when a radio file is present on the sdcard...

That is because every time the phone boots into hboot parses for PD98IMG files. If you have one in your sdcard, then does that.
