#Request: Polish Defy ROM - Defy General

Hi guys, I have seen this being mentioned in other parts of this forum, but I think it deserves some extra attention.
The Defy has been released in Poland without Motoblur! This means we have a nice blur free official ROM that we could use.
Does anyone have a friend in Poland who can upload the .sbf file?

How anyone can have .sbf file, other than downloaded from Motorola site?
Actualy I'm waiting for someone from our forums to upload, but clean nandroid backup, not the .sbf file. But I wonder if someone could find .sbf for:

Blurless Central Europe ROM
and-developers.com/sbf:defy

So if we flash this sbf and follow the steps laid down by Higgsy then we should have a data enabled, brand new flashy Defy without Motoblur. Sounds interesting but I will leave it to those who are used to flashing these files. Being a newbie its bit of a risk to do that now.

Hi all,
I'm new here but was reading this forum for a while.
I just downloaded the blurless CEE version 2.34. Flashed as usual with RSD Lite 4.9. The program says 'PASS' but the phone is not turning on (power+vol_up; power+vol_down doesn't work either).
PC can still see the phone, so I reflashed with GB version 2.51 and it boots normaly.
I'm not a pro but any suggestion might help.
Regards,
Marcin

You ask and i serve Defy Central Europe
Flash with RSDLite 4.9 and usb drivers 4.8.0

That's what I'm using. What else I've noticed is that after flashing to 2.51 I can't reflash to anything older. The same problem. I also found some errors entries in log files. Are those normal?

So I understand the 2.51 UK ROM cannot be rooted with z4root, but how about the Polish 2.34? Also what dictionaries does the ROM come with (I am mainly interested in English and potentially German, English onscreen language is fine)?

So this can be rooted and also fixed Goggles for me.

n00b questions

Hi all,
I'm new to the Android world.
This morning I received my i9000 device and already in love with it!
I'm on firmware: I9000XXJF3
On the Samsung Firmwares site I saw a lot of different firmwares.
What firmware would be best for my i9000 (8gb EU model on T-Mobile Netherlands)?
If there is a better firmware, why should I upgrade? Or is better to wait for Froyo?
To change firmware do I need to root the device?
I also read stuff about recovery kernel, do I need to do that first?
Also do I need Odin or do I need another app for firmware upgrading?
What lag fix app do I need?
A lot of n00b question... But I hope someone can help me out.
Tnx!
Hey,
JF3 is the latest official Firmware for your device.
All other firmwares which you saw on the website are leaked firmwares, means they are not officialy released by samsung.
There are already leaked froyo firmwares, but jit is broken and they are more or less in alpha stage, so i wouldn't update to froyo atm. If you want froyo, you should wait for the official release in september.
I recommand JM2, its the most responsive and smooth firmware, in my opinion. JM5 is also very good. but keep in mind, they're both leaked.
To flash a new firmware you need odin, there is a tutorial, just check the stickies in this section.
You dont have to root your device to flash, but if you still want to, there is also a tutorial.

no its not, JF stands for 2010 June
M is not a official code for a month.
JF = Year (J) / Month (F) , Release-Date of Firmware
Year of Release:
A = 2001
B = 2002
C = 2003
D = 2004
E = 2005
F = 2006
G = 2007
H = 2008
I = 2009
J = 2010
Month of Release:
A = January
B = February
C = March
D = April
E = May
F = June
G = July
H = August
I = September
J = October
K = November
L = December
So if you have M-Z as month code, its not a official release ^^
Hopefully i am right, if not correct me plz xD

The best firmware right now (but this is subjective) is JM5 if you ask me. It is not official.
You can wait for froyo but JM5 is a massive improvement to JF3 already.
You don't need to root to install firmware.
You don't need custom recovery kernel either .
Firmware upgrading is done in odin.
With JM2 or JM5 you don't really need a lagfix because the phone will be fast enough without. Otherwise both RyanZA and Chainfire's fixes are simple and effective.

Thanks guys for all the answers!
It's a lot more clear to me now!!
Really appreciated. Going to flash JM2 or JM5 this weekend.
Btw does JM2 or JM5 contain the Dutch language? Also Swype in Dutch?
Cheers
before you flash anything make sure your 3 button combo is working properly

Thanks!
Just tried the 3 buttons and I got in recovery mode (when pressing volume up) and got in download mode (when pressing volume down).
I can see 4 options: reboot, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition
Also I see the Android with a yellow triangle.
What does the wipe cache partition do? Of course it wipes cache. ;-)
But what is the use of it?
Do I need to flash all 3 TAR files? (CODE, CSC, MODEM)
Code is probably the OS itself, Modem is radio rom but what is CSC?
Anyone?
Lezen?
wiping the cache partition can fix problems with some programs...

[Q] Got my phone, latin america rom. Should I dump it? maybe different radio?

Hi, I just got my phone yesterday.
I see that latin american rom is not available on the site. Just a backup is ok? or should I take special consideration to dump it before putting other roms?
I want to be sure both that I can go back and that I can get the required info to contribute the rom here.
thanks!
What Android version does it come with?
System Version
Blur_Version.6.14.7.MB525.Personal.en.AR
Firmware Version
2.1-Update1
Build number
System version: Blur_Version6.14.7.MB525.Personal.en.AR
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Number version: JORLA_U3_6.14.7
Another question, is any ROM in the forums posted in spanish?
Cuz i'd like to change mi stock ROM.
I'm from Argentina, so thats the reason for my lame english.
The Central Europe one has Spanish.
http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
But if it's anything like Portuguese it's pretty broken, half the GUI is in english and the other half is in pt, plus it doesn't support special characters, so no ~´ç

Thanks Hocevar, but i don't know. I don't wanna flash my phone, just wanna try Recovery. Or should I use RSDLite first and then try Recovery?.
If i can use Recovery without using RSDLite, what ROM do you recomend?.

Froyo from Motorola for India is out I guess

Motorola Page
Check the pdf, it says it supports indian defy also!
Great News...
It says..
Who Can Use This Release
All Motorola DEFY™ users in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam.
Downloading Exe file, lets see!!!
nope!!!
its not wrking right now...its saying no update found in MSU..!!
yeah its not working. the updater says, its already upto date!
Yes yes yes guys! If its there for Singapore and obviously as the PDF states, Indian version can also be upgraded, its as good as here!
Woohooo! Just waiting for MOTO to flick the switch of updater ON and we can have some Froyo goodness!!!!
Other great news for all DEFY fans:
WE're gonna get Gingerbread too! And that too officially from Motorola! A private build from motorola was leaked to sum russian forum and _shadow_ has brought the same over to us at xda-devs!
Don't beleive me? Go to GSMArena blog and search for "motorola defy gingerbread"
I would've posted the link, but as I'm "young" on this forum, I sadly can't
P.S: Gingerbread comes factory overclocked with 1 GHz! ^_^

Yes they withdrew it.. I upgraded my mobile to froyo.. but today when i tried to update my frnd's defy.. it says there is no update
It does not work
Hi guys I'm new to this forum I just updated from 2.1 to this release and it works perfectly I suggest install nandroid backup and flash fixed sbf so you can downgrade if needed this version of froyo seems very stable benchmark was 1340 at 1ghz with 58vsel been running it for the last couple of hours and perfect so far

Is this official 2.2.2 Froyo or something else ?

Hi,
I couldn't confirm the origin of these files:
http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
=> The files under 2.2.2 Froyo Service Flashes, are they official ones or something weird from the internet (e.g. a beta/ a leak etc.)
Thanks!!
*bump*
2nd bump (really need to know this)
Some are official while some are "leaked" eg. the UK 177 is official release whereas I'm sure the Nordic was a leaked version.
Are there any information on the quality of 2.2.2 Central Europe ? Does leaked mean unfinished/ unstable ?
Where can I get an official 2.2.2 version ?
*edit*
My version (Central Europa 2.2.2) has the version number 3.4.2 179-002 and I cannot find any newer "official" version. So I guess it's the one that also came through the Motorola Software update.

Yes I suppose leaked version may be buggy but when looking at the Nordic leak it's pretty good. The UK 3.4.3-11 leak was also pretty good in my experience whereas the first UK leak 3.4.2-117 had issues like haptic feedback not working on the soft keys.
Also when looking at official versions like the latest official UK build released by Moto Software updater people are reporting issues with that.
I think the Central Europe 179 that you have is the official Moto Software update.
Currently my phone says 179-002! The one I downloaded through Motorolas official software BEFORE was 177-003.
So whatever I currently have is newer than what Motorola offers. I'm from Germany. Maybe the Motorola software somehow recognized that and gave me 177 (current German version). So the question is wether 179-002 is an official version made for the Central European (non German) market or a leaked version.
to make this clear:
first I downlaoded 177 German through Motorolas software
then later I manually flashed 179 CEE from this mysterios sbf:dev page above...
Now I wan't to know what 179-002 CEE is, official or beta/ leaked...

People might be able to better help you if you mention *why* you can't upgrade. What you have tried so far, and perhaps also what you want to upgrade to.

tell us why can't you upgrade your defy. Then only we can provide you a solution.
Do you get freeze at moto logo on the new flash? It happened to me once, I had the 2.1 Up1, I just had to try a lot, and I really mean a lot, of ROMs before founding one that worked. The one that I used was the downloadable one from the guide of how to flash the defy, in the link where says like: if you flashed 2.3.4 and cant come back...there's a guide, use the 2.2 ROM.
