Is there a way to enable the "Fast Boot" feature on my G2? Do Desire Z users that flash CM still have this feature?
It's a feature of the latest version of Sense... If you don't have that then you don't have fastbook I guess
What if he were to install a sense Rom??
It's a ROM function, not something extra built into the hardware. So the G2 should be able to do it with a custom ROM using that feature.
Is this a kernal specific thing? Can cyanogenmod kernal implement something like this? Are they working on it? (after gingerbread ofcourse)
No one is working on it cause it's a useless "feature". You could accomplish the same thing by just turning off the screen on your phone. "fastboot" just puts the phone into a deeper than normal sleep mode. Basically like suspend or sleep for your computer ^_^

I imagine it uses a lot less battery than turning your screen off though. It's not a useful feature for me either, but some people might think it's worth using.

Hi! As stated in titel, I want to disable vibration on boot and shutdown. Before froyo, it used to vibrate only when starting, now vibrates also in shutdown.
There is a small app called Silent Boot which disables sound on boot even though the phone is not in the silent mode. App that I am looking for is an app similar to it but also has ability to disable vibration.
Additionally, although "haptic feedback" option is deselected, it is still available in the stock calculator.. annoying. I want to use vibration only on incoming calls, nowhere else.

Vibration on start / shutdown - How to disable?
Is there a solution to do that?
Would also like to know this. Bump.
Me too, no idea why they included the shutdown vibration in the Froyo update. Pointless?
Ehm, just curious ...
What's the problem with vibration during shutdown and boot?
I hate the boot sound MORE because it affect other people ... But, I "fixed" that using Tasker easily (no root required)
Sorted out the boot sound issue thanks to "Silent Boot". Simply, personally, I find vibration much irritating on such. Pointless..

I understand. personal reason etc. however its not pointless. If the phone takes more than a few seconds to shut down the screen goes blank but the phone is still "shutting down". This happened alot on 2.1. Phone would take 10minutes to shut down. you had to keep turning on screen to see if it was off yet or still 'shuttnig down' The vibrate now gives a positive confirmation the phone is off. not just screen off.
Ok I see the function as well, but it would be better if this was left for user to decide whether or not to use it; as kind of preference.

Its probably going to be more hassle than its worth disabling it. Though I really can't see why it really is a problem, do you like shutting your phone down a lot? I can't remember the last time I actually turned mine off or even had to restart it
If you root the phone and bake a custom ROM you can get rid of it - the latest MoDaCo ROM has this 'feature'
Personally, I like the boot sound/vibrations
I was considering that there might be a tweak, an app etc. which is not requiring root and/or cooked rom as well (like as Silent Boot) now I see there is no way out.
Yeap, this is a matter of taste...
BUMP
Believe it or not the noise of the vibrate has woke the person next to me up more than once. I need it gone.

Well, afaik, the FroYo update has removed the shutdown-vibration.
The Boot-One is still there though.
shutdown vibrate annoyance
turn on haptic and set the vibration level to zero, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) this also disables all vibration alerts.

I'm just baffled at how a 16 month old thread gets revived...and to what purpose??
You coming to OneX or what?
Hi,
I have a question about sleep mode or whatever you want to call it. I am sure that you figured out that i am new to Android and the Desire (only had it for 4 days now).
I remember reading somewhere here but I cant find, someone asking if it were possible to bring the phone out of standby or sleep mode whatever you call it, other then pressing the power button.
I would like to know is there an app that allows this for "stock" Desires? I am not running any other types of ROMs. I am still too new to this all.
If anyone knows. I would appreciate it. Thanks for putting up with an Android & Desire Noob.
WidgetLocker can do that but it will replace ur standard lockscreen. I can recommend the app btw...
Thanks elburna I will try it out and see how I like it.
A quick search didn't turn up anything, so here goes..
Is there a way to prevent the phone from waking when you unplug it from charging? I know it will just time out or you can manually shut the screen back off, but I'd like to prevent it from turning the screen on at all on unplug.
Any ideas?
*I just realized this could be posted in the general Android q&a section since it shouldn't be device specific I think. If a mod would like to move it then great
Not exactly sure how its done, but i know that with CM7, it's disabled, so it has to be a feature of specific roms
Doesn't do it on MIUI either, so I think it's a Sense thing. Maybe something to do with the kernel?

ugh I would totally run CM if I could get MMS working on it with Cricket...it's the only thing stopping me.
If only they would transfer the Cricket APN settings built in the CM7 rom for the Huawei Ascend into other devices. It doesn't work properly when I try to manually program them in.
When I'm in my car, I have my GN mounted on a vent, and plugged into power. I'll often use this to check traffic with Google Maps, or for whatever reason, would like to keep the display on (preferrably full power since it's not running off the battery), and not dim after the preset time. I have yet to find a way to do this.
I have gone into Developer Settings, and enabled the "Stay Awake" when plugged into power, but this does not prevent the screen from dimming after the preset time. So this doesn't accomplish what I want.
On my prior Touch Pro 2, there was a simple setting - keep display on, full brightness, when plugged into power. Seems like a no-brainer to have this feature, but I'll be darned if I can find it.
Any ideas? Or Apps that will provide this functionality?
Thanks.

I think screebl might help. Not 100% sure that it will though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Thanks. As you said, it doesn't seem Screebl will do what I'm wanting.
There are a few other Apps, such as "Stay Awake" where you can configure it to keep the display on whenever a specified app or apps are running. I guess this might be an option.
But seriously, this seems to be a major omission in Android. I understand why one might want the display to auto-dim (although I can just turn it off when I want, so even this is questionable). But if it's plugged into power, surely the user should have a readily available option to keep the display on. For example, a "Never" option in the screen that has the various timeout options.
I'm new to Android - is there really no straightforward way of doing this??
Bump..
Still hoping for a straightforward way to keep the display at full power when connected to my car charger.
Thanks.
Widgetsoid has as one of its display switches to keep the display always on, and it does work. So I made a 1x1 widget that has that one switch, and use it when I want the screen to stay on. Not elegant, but functional.
Thanks for the suggestion; I'll check it out.
I'm still somewhat surprised that this pretty basic functionality isn't built into the OS itself, or that there aren't ready-made Apps to implement this.

I dont think google had car mode ready for release. Couple that with the fact the car dock with pogo pins hasnt been released either. Yes google f'ed up but im sure we will see it in future update. Or a dev will probably be nice enough to do something.

Yes, I'm a first timer with Android, but I still do my research before posting. Did you actually read my initial post or the Subject title?
I have already enabled this setting. Yes, it does keep the screen 'awake' but it still dims after the timeout in Display Settings.
My post is how to keep the screen at normal brightness when plugged into power
I read your post. I agree, it is annoying. I have not found a solution to it and it has bugged me for years while in the car. I have had 4 android phones and it has been the same on all of them so it is not an individual phone thing, it is an android thing. My best suggestion is while in the car to have navigation turned on, that keeps the screen fully lit. I would think that some enterprising developer could delve into how the navigation mode keeps the phone at full power and come up with an app to do the same.

I've been looking at a few Apps (Screen On, Screen Timeout Widget, KeepScreen), but there are questions about each of them, uncertain compatibility with ICS, etc.
I did discover that when I had a Video playing (podcast through BeyondPod), the display did stay undimmed while I was plugged into Power. Navigation also works this way. Really crazy that this isn't an available option in the OS.
This worked on my old Droid, haven't tested on my Galaxy Nexus yet -- but hopefully the app is ICS compatible: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.probeez.liteprofiles&hl=en
Setting Profiles Lite is limited to one rule -- so make your one rule this: When charging, screen timeout=never (since this actually changes the screen timeout on the basic level, instead of the workaround that the Dev Settings option triggers).
(The full version of Setting Profiles will of course also do this, and I'm sure you can also do this with Tasker.)

Getting a weird overheating message on the stock 4.4.2 rom (XWDNF1)
It basically says 'your device is overheating some apps will be closed'.
Then it may pop up again and say 'X amount of apps were closed you can only use the phone and contacts'.
The warning is bogus though as I can feel the device to the touch and tell it's not overheating. Even if it was, I don't want my rom making the decision to stop on it's on.
Does anyone know how to deactivate this warning?
I'm using the: Stock Samsung rom, Rooted with a Stock Kernel.
Here is a screenshot, I'd appreciate any insight. I figure this is a stock kernel "safety" thing. But, is there a way to disable it? Do I just need to use a different kernel?

This happened to me on civato's custom rom/kernel once as well. Not sure how to disable it. Probably baked into the kernel code somewhere. I only got the message that one time so have not really been concerned with it. Was not the same message though because it didn't close any apps automatically or make me do anything. I shut it down for a bit and restarted at later time. My tablet was not hot either as all I was doing was browsing with Dolphin.
