Hi, first time posting here but have been browsing for a while. I purchased my htc incredible a few months ago from a guy online and he said it was brand new. I got the phone answer it had all the screen protectors on it and looked brand new. I brought it down to verizon and they activated it with no problems. I was just surfing through the ##778 menu and noticed the MSID didn't match my phone number so I'm assuming the phone had in fact been activated before, but my question is should the msid ect. Match my phone number, and if I leave it the way it is will it cause any problems? Also if it should be changed is it ok to do it on my own?, thanks in advance! Also note I've had no problems except a blown rear speaker.

The MSID does not ALWAYS match. Google it there is a lot about it.

Hi All,
I have rooted DINC with Skyraider 4.3. My son dropped his Eris and broke the screen. I am thinking of moving to the TBolt as an early upgrade. Question is, when I move his number to my DINC (*228) will it reprogram or do I need to return to complete stock?
it will not reprogram. calling in and giving them the MEID to the phone to associate to your son's number and then doing the *228 should be enough to activate and you'll still have skyraider 4.3.
SWEET!!! Thanks, I was sweating it.

You don't even need to call in anymore to do an ESN swap. If he upgrades to the Tbolt, that will leave the DINC "empty" of service. So he can just dial *228 on the DINC, choose option 1, and input his son's phone number (and the password to the account I believe), and it will switch over and program to his phone.
I actually got a Verizon rep to activate a very obviously rooted dInc for my girlfriend. He just couldn't figure out why it didn't have that Verizon backup assistant to transfer the phone book. It was running a Sprint derived ROM at the time.
When I activated my incredible I didn't have time to flash back to stock, but since I told the rep I bought it off ebay he told me that they had installed "off brand" software on it, and i played dumb.

Yeah i did that too and it worked. More like bending the truth
Woot! Was gonna say. All I did was Call and found out I can do it all over the internet for Verizon.
When I had mine transferred I told the guy up front it was rooted. He switched it, no questions asked. He even showed it to the manager who wanted to see how well it worked. When I got my Tbolt I told him I intended to have it rooted before the day was done. The manager wanted me to bring it back to see how that worked out. I've had really positive experiences with Verizon and my rooted devices.
Got 2 dinc2's 2 weeks ago for daughter and son.
My daughters phone will occasionally receive a call that was placed to my son's phone. I personally happened once when I called him and she answered (wtf?) I hung up called right back and it went correctly. She has also said some of his friends calls are being routed to her.
Both phone ota gingerbread, both activated minutes apart. I am wondering if somehow the esn's are being mixed up at Verizon, but can't figure out why some calls go correctly as some don't.
Any ideas?

That is strange, it seems like that must be an issue with Verizon. I'd tell em about the issue and see what they have to say. Definitely not a common issue though, as far as I know.
Verizon has some finicky account management and provisioning systems. This is definitely not a common problem, but I could definitely believe it could happen.
Try calling *228 and press 1 on each device (this is the activation extension). If that doesn't solve the problem, contact Verizon.
Doh..
Didn't even think to *228...
Will do and report if problems keep at it

Hey all,
I broke my old iPhone 4, accidentally sold it with my old SIM, bought a 4S, took it back, and yesterday got a new SIM card for my new Galaxy Nexus. Everything worked fine after I activated the SIM over the phone, but I noticed I didn't get any texts.
I didn't think much of it, just other people having busy lives. The next day though, I didn't get anything back from my mother, which she surely would have text back by now. I gave her a call, and she told me that she never got anything from me, and I never received anything from her.
Investigating further, most people online said it was that I never assigned my phone an SMSC number. I put in the AT&T one and still no dice. I called AT&T, they re-added messaging, and still nothing. AT&T contacted Samsung, told me to do the SMSC change again and see nothing. I was able to get all the trial texts from AT&T, but couldn't send or receive anything from my friends or family.
Frustrated, I went down to Best Buy and bought an AT&T dumbphone to use so I could send back the Nexus, as well as finally be able to text. Still couldn't send or receive messages. Changed the SMSC on both the phone and SIM card, and got no errors, but texts still never got the recipient and I couldn't receive any.
Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated. Anyone have any advise?

No one has an answer, same as you. People can't give answers if they don't have them.

Yes, but I also sent regular texts as well. I did wipe the phone completely before sending it.

I agree. I went to the AT&T store today, and they opened a claim and said they'll have a solution by Tuesday, but I have a feeling that they'll come up blank.
I'm hoping maybe it's as simple as getting a new SIM, getting it going on an ATT phone, and then popping it into my Nexus.
Turns out it was account related, so I got it working on my dumb phone. Stuck the SIM into my Nexus and still nothing.
Never had any sort of trouble with iOS with this, or dumb phones. Maybe the Lumia is more my speed.
Just wondering if anyone with a GSM Galaxy Nexus ever had a their ESN get corrupted before. I had this phone for about a year, and decided to give it to a friend of mine for his birthday after from upgrading to the Nexus 4, and it was working fine for two weeks then a few days ago it just stopped working. It had this weird phantom airplane mode and all the settings was somehow wiped. This was on 100 percent stock. Only thing different was I had it on Straight Talk with the at&nt sim card and he ordered the tmobile versino because ST doesn't sell the att ones anymore. It worked fine till that problem happened. That was the first issue I had ever with that phone. I tried everything from wiping the cache partitions, and restoring the stock firmware and no change. Still had that airplane mode issue. So, I called customer support and thankfully I still had a month left of the warrenty thank god, so I talked to the tech support and what they told me to try didn't do anything. so, they told me to send it in. I guess the Original Problem: was the ANDROID - DATA SETTINGS CONFIGURATION - BASIC CONFIGURATION ISSUE, and they found:ESN CORRUPTED - WILL NOT CHARGE. This is from the email letter I got back with the tracking. Just wondering if anybody has had this issue before with a GSM version and what causes it. Im interested to find out. I tried looking and searching and found nothing for the GSM ESN, My friend is getting his replacement in today on his birthday, 6/6/13. Sorry for the long post. Just curious on what causes this issue. Thanks!
I don't think GSM devices have an ESN, that's only CDMA?

seems like its the same as IMEI being reset ?
My Nexus S did the same thing. Samsung refused to fix it under warranty. I was one of a few who had that problem in the NS community and there was never a solution found. If you do figure it out let me know. I flashed a rom one time that fixed it. I did a back up and when it rebooted it was gone and occasionally the IMEI would reappear.

hey guys,
im considering selling my epic 4g on ebay without the micro sd card. my question is i no longer have service with sprint yet when i go to the "about phone" section it still shows my phone number. i now have the same number on t mobile with a different phone. my phone was rooted so i tried returning the phone to bare stock which i did but still shows my number. excuse my ignorance with this maybe i need to do something else?
Thanks
I've also moved on to T-mobile as you have, and I still use my old epic for my self. I keep it in airplane mode and while its in that state the phone # (nor any service info) shows up in about phone. I don't think there's a way to change it since sprint doesn't use sim cards it probably needs to be activated on a new account to change the number.
I may be wrong tho. I feel like maybe there's a build.prop edit or something that could remove it for you that I'm not aware of. Ill let you know if I find anything out since I can test random things on my phone.

So i took a trip to sprint today and they couldn't help me but they said customer support could. I call them and they say removing the number is not possible. I find it hard to believe. They said its because the account was closed and my number was ported over to another provider. The rep on the phone said i could use the buy back program to sell sprint my phone. Yeah right like gamestop where you get nothing for your games? I just find it hard to believe there is no number sequence to reset. What if i bought the phone outright? There would be no number on it im sure.
Very frustrating. Im thinking of calling another day.

I don't think you can buy the phone outright, it has been sold entirely on contract and a number will be written in once you deal a contract...

I just did a quick search to find some activation codes. Have you tried Carrier Wipe?
Open the dialer
Dial ##72786#
Enter your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) if prompted
Touch "OK", phone will restart
EDIT:
OR
Open dial pad and enter ##<6-digit MSL>#
Tap "Edit"
Tap "OK"
Enter <10-digit phone number>
Tap "OK"
Enter <10-digit MSID>
Tap "OK"
Select "Done"
If the phone does not reboot, reboot it now.
Is everyone's MSL the same? I don't know what mine is and I don't have alogcat installed to try the method I've found from Google. I guess I could call sprint but it always seems I get the non technical person.

Thank you so much! It took 40 minutes on the phone to get the right code with the right person but all the info is now gone. Awesome!
