[Q] Lockscreen slide - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I tried searching but I couldn't find anything but I am running cyanogenmod the final release on my g2 and I was wondering if there is a way to set my phone so when I open the screen it doesn't automatically unlock but instead it just shows the lockscreen and let's me unlock it manually. Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean when you slide the screen open it unlocks automatically...
If so, then no, there's no way to manually unlock it

well if you run a sense based rom it may work like that, its how mine does what your asking, unfortunatley cyanogenmod does not
you could put in a password or something that will instantly activate, but that may be more trouble than its worth.

The only way I know to do this is to set a pattern/password unlock.

change the button behaviors on cyanogenmod setting. you must have something on since when i use it the trackpad it only wakes the phone and not unlock it, so i slide it down manually to unlock it.

Yes, there is. It needs to be modded in the framework.

I see. I guess I will have to put some type of pass on it then because my phone sometimes opens up accidentally then apps get launched and all kinds of things lol. Thanks again for all of the helpful quick responses though!

Buy widgetlocker. You can customize your lockscreen and it stays locked after opening.

HTC Lock screen

Ok so I read in another forum that I could rename the HTC lock screen apk, not delete incase of problems glad I listened. Well it worked great I had the stock lock screen which is what I wanted. The problem came the next morning when my alarm went off. I was unable to turn it off. Does anyone have any suggestions because I like the stock lock screen but not being able to turn off the alarm is not an option.

You need to use the AOSP clock/alarm. If I wasn't on my evo, id attatch it for you.

What is that I have not heard of that yet, I am still new to this rooting stuff. I am also concerned because I am reading a lot of people having trouble restoring with Amon Ra. I installed amon ra thinking that it was better than clockwork but now I'm concerned that may have been the wrong thing.

You want to use that aosp clock app instead of the htc one. The htc alarm clock can only be used with the HTC lockscreen, as they are tied together somehow. Since you're using the aosp lockscreen now, you must also use the aosp clock/alarm app instead of the htc one. Otherwise you won't be able to shut your alarm off. Hope that helps clear it up a little bit.
Its the CM7 clock app the same thing as the aosp clock app. what does aosp stand for any way.

Yes, correct. CM7 is AOSP. AOSP= Android Open Source Project . (Not Sense based)

Glad you're all set. And yes, xda is a fantastic forum, that's for sure.
Quick question do I need to install that apk our just place it in a, if so which one? I also down loaded CM7 and I can not find any file name aosp_clock.apk. There is a DeskClock.apk that is comes in the CM7. Not that I don't trust "thebeast614" I do a lot of security work and am I a paranoid kinda person. No disrespect to thebeast614.

Ok after doing more reading and looking I have found that I should be able to take the DesktopClock.apk out of CM7 place it in the /system/apps location give it full permissions, "chmod 777" or with Root Explorer and then I can re-remove the HTCLockScreen.apk and HTCLockScreen.odex, just rename them in case I have to go back. Then after a reboot I would have the stock Android lock screen, which I have done before, but this time with the DesktopClock.apk I should be able to control the alarm better, ie turn it off. Now do I just place the DesktopClock.apk in the /system/apps or do I install it from say Root Explorer. My other question is currently in my stock Evo sense ui, under all apps there is a Desk Clock app, will that be replaced or will there be another app for the DesktopClock.apk that I installed.

Ok so this is what I ended up with and yes it worked thanks to the help of the people on this forum.
1st Have Root
2nd Root Explorer (I guess you could use adb but I find it sometimes easier to use root explorer for soemthing.)
3rd Rename HTCLockScreen.apk to HTCLockScreen.apk_bak and HTCLockScreen.odex to HTCLockScreen.odex_bak. I reason I renamed and not deleted is so I could easily go back if I want to. Deleting will work as well but may sure you have a back first.
4th I installed the DesktopClock.apk from CM6 the latest stable version. Just downloaded the zip file opened it took the DesktopClock.apk out and installed it from the sd card.
5th Restarted the phone and enjoyed the Android lock screen. You have to leave the HTC Clock on the phone or the phone will freak out. make sure to turn off all the HTC alarms off and re-enter the alarms in the new Android clock.

Take out the battery. Put it back in and start your phone again. If the same happens repeat the battery pull but this time hold down on the volume bar and THEN press the power button to restart your phone. After it starts up in bootloader select recovery by moving the volume bar and then hit the power button again. This will bring you back to recovery where you can flash the rom again or restore your backup.

Note: Start @ 3:15. In the video clockwork mod is black/green but that's just because its an older version, the newer version is black/orange. All the steps are still the same though.

Also keep in mind that some roms can take up to 5 minutes to load the first time. Normally (but definetely NOT always) as long as it doesn't keep reloading the boot animation, everything is fine - the rom is building your file system on your first boot.

Also what are the benefits of switching kernels? And which do you all recommend?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
if you took the time to read about kernels and what they are you would know.
but, i'm in a good mood today:
Kernels govern your cpu speed and how to scale it. Some are locked to a certain frequency set and some are made adjustable, but you have to get an app that interacts with the kernel otherwise it runs at whatever it is preset to.
SetCPU is the one I used, but I know there are plenty out there that others would recommend and swear by in a heartbeat.

I'm using Virtuous rom 1.02 with the advanced kernel. I clocked mine at 475-1100mhz with a low battery profile switch at 275-887 (i think).
Check your rom specific kernel to make sure it runs best for your rom. The rest is personal preference.

*sigh* Give a man a fish and he will eat all day. Teach a man to fish and he will drink beer all day.
Since you're on CyanogenMod, I recommend Pershoot's kernel (available through ROM Manager). If you're feeling bold, download Flippy's latest kernel. Since I'm running the CM-based PyroMod, Pershoot's kernel is built in.
Everytime i flash a rom do i need to flash clockwork mod recovery?

I suggest you check out the stickies sections that has links to a bunch of very well written guides that answer all your questions. the responses you get here are going to turn ugly very fast.

If you open clockwork and your current recover is the same as newest version then there is no need to reflash recovery. The only reason to reflash clockwork is if there is a newer version out.

Virtuous Unity Lock Screen

I've updated from 1.26.0 to 1.27.0 and I've lost the shortcuts on the lock screen. I've been in the customisation screen and tried swapping lock screens (to photo stream etc) and changing what the shortcuts are just in case that'd bring them back. Neither of those worked though.
Any ideas?
Did you do a full wipe before updating?

I've just tried that and it's generally not working too well for me. The lock screen shortcuts have returned but there's lots of force closes and general lag. I've just returned to the prior version using a backup I made pre-update.
Thanks for your help anyway.

After doing a full wipe and flashing a sense rom, you need to let it settle in. After the initial boot there is a lot going on in the background.

After reading this I reinstalled the latest version. Again the lock screen short cuts had returned but I was getting several force close issues. Turns out that it was crashing when trying to sync with my Google Calender. I disabled the sync for it and now it seems to be working fine.

[Q] lockscreen

My lockscreen buttons are really close together and alot smaller than normal until u touch them?? I remember this happening in the past but don't remember what I did to fix it. Any one have this issue??? Cm7 nightly 143
Try remove that pattern lockscreen and reapply it. Also check if you have changed your screen density.

I do stumble upon this problem long time ago when I use stock rom. I didn't quite remember how I solved this problem though. Or maybe its normal? I think I just removed it after using it for awhile back then (its annoying to swipe through EVERYTIME to unlock phone).

[Q] Animation - Screen On - Screen Off

Anyone knows why the screen on - off animations like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815335 won't show on cm 7.1.0.1 for wildfire? I've tried setting them on-off reboot etc but no change at all. Any clue anyone?
It's an extremely random effect. If having it is so important, consider upgrading to the latest nightlies, where they are much more consistent (Still not 100%) than the stable.
I went to a local store yesterday and the Nexus S had it, no root. Is there incompatibility or something with the WF
Actually, i accidentally managed to make it work after installing a theme called "rover" (if i remember well), but it screwed up fonts and icon sizes cause i think its designed for desire, and i had to reflash cm7 to solve it.

There must be a way making it a flashable zip, with zipthemer maybe, but i need the lockscreen animation file to do it. Maybe i'll check the cyanogen forums.

Strange, I always manage to get it working after 1-2 reboots (On Nightly #250 and Erwin's local build). (Verified - Since I keep changing SIM cards between my SGS2 and Wildfire pretty regularly)
Hmm.. maybe i'll give it another shot tomorrow then. You managed that only by rebooting? Not changing anything in the settings?
