[Q] Desire Z/Sense - can I get text selection to work in GMail? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The awesome Sense text selection seems to work in some third party apps (such as Handcent SMS), so is there a way someone can get it working in the GMail app?
I know the method that Google has implemented is due to be changed in Gingerbread, but by all accounts it's still not as good/unified as HTC's Sense method.

No not possible unless someone reverse engineers it. Either flash a Sense ROM or wait for Gingerbread.

I am on a Sense rom - and the Sense text selection works in Handcent, a third party app.
I guess I don't understand why it can work there, but it can't do so in ALL third party apps, ie where I want it in GMail?

[REQ] New (Froyo) Gmail app

Can someone port the new Gmail app to make it installable on 2.1? (I'd love to have the ability to select text in Gmail).
P.S. Yes I tried extracting it from a 2.2 ROM and just install it but it won't install
I want it too
also +1
though i'm not sure this can be done easily
You can select text in the default HTC email app. Not the same, but I have used this method a number of time, actually better because it lets you select specific text as well as all text...
Maybe worth trying?

Improve Stock SMS application?

With Android being so customizable, are we able to go into deep customizations with the stock apps for Android? I'd like to know if we could add more features to the stock sms client already, like sms pop-ups, emoji support (for friends who have iPhones), etc.
I know there are other clients like Handcent SMS, but I don't like having to use third party apps. If this can be accomplished, I think it would be a great addition to CyanogenMod.
If I'm not mistaken, cm does use an already modded sms app.

Those emoji can be easily replaced in the res folder within the Mms.apk pop ups would be third party app or if someone can really take a look at it and make it like MIUIs default sms, it has its own popup feature..

[Q] SMS App optimized for ICS

I've been using Handcent on my Gingerbread device (the HTC INC) and I just got my GNex. I'm wondering if there are any ICS optimized SMS apps (other than the stock, I don't like the options it gives me) out there.
I don't mind Handcent so much, but I don't really like GoSMS or Chomp, just wondering if there were any better ones out there in the world.
handcent is.
I use handcent too, and it doesnt scroll very smoothly. None of the text apps seem smooth on ics yet including stock sms. Hope this changes soon.
I also don't like the new set up for handcent...the three home pages...I always accidentally swipe in one direction.
I haven't seen a way to turn it off (which makes sense to me), but I don't like it!
I've always preferred the stock SMS app.. even the stock keyboard.

[Q] 3rd party dialer, contacts and sms

I'm looking to replace the native dialer, contacts and sms app in Ice Cold Sandwich for a 3rd party option. Probably go with the Go series as I like their options and looks.
Is there a way to disable the native apps on a permanent basis so that there is no confusion over multiple notifications if indeed that does happen?
Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Go has an option for disabling native app notifications.
Looked everywhere, could not find this option.
I do recall this used to be an option when I used Go quite a while back. It seems this option was removed for some reason. I read on google, this option has been removed from 3rd party dialers, google insist on it or something.

Pity...sorry then. I used Go over the summer before I even rooted, so clearly my recollection is out of date.

[Q] Batch mode for default messaging app

Is there any way to add a batch mode for the default JB Messaging app so I can work with several messages at once? or has anybody done this for our XPERIAs?
AVOID suggesting me 3rd party apps from playstore, no one is close to the perfection of default messaging app, and also I want my phone as googleish as possible, so I don't actually change any default app like that. Any "answer" like this will be ignored.
Cmon, anyone has to know the answer for this!
well.. no one.. *feels alone* where are the devs when you need them.
