Hi guys, I am currently running a rooted hero with the fresh ROM. I have been going back and forth now on upgrading to the EVO. I finally couldnt stand it no more so I took the plunge! My EVO is gonna be here tuesday. The bigger screen and processor did me in...........
Anyway, I am thinking about rooting my EVO when I get it. I am looking for a "close to stock" ROM with all the sprint goodies......all the bells and whistles......but I am looking for a stable ROM and one that maybe I can remove the apps that I dont want. Maybe I can use a good ROM that you guys suggest and "add" some of the sprint apps that I want? Any inquiries will be greatly appreciated. I cant wait to see what this thing will do!

Well randy..
Thats the joys of rooting and flashing new roms. you find one that best fits you.
You can look for a sense based stock rom, but you wont really be able to remove the apps yourself.
I would reccomend abandoning sprints bloatware. You will also look to expect superior battery life over stock.
my reccomendations are
Fresh's newest rom
netarchy kernal
Launcher Pro
and find what makes you happy.
If you want stock I would gi with fresh also, then try myn. If you wanna aosp definitely cm! I wouldn't root for a week or two just so u know what's what.
Find out how the evo works, what it will and won't do..that way if you have issues when you root, you will know before you can blame the rom.
If I was a sense user I'd roll with myns rom, but it isn't stock

You should definitely try the ReEngineered 3.70 rom. Its almost completely stock, but is very fast and stable. But as the others said, you really should explore all of the options available. It really is a very personal choice. Good luck and happy flashing!
I was always a fan of DamageControl for a Sense based ROM. I'm partial to CyanogenMod now, though. I love not having the Sprint bloatware on my phone anymore.
Well froyo's got some changes from 2.1. On the hero a2sd is partition based in the sd-ext. On froyo Trever's Dark tremor is available, but a built in file-descriptor "semi" partition is symlinked ( and readily broken ) leading to all sdcard apps disappearing.
Watch out for the 1.90.. pri as of yet.
Read and re-read your rooting method based on your evo's hboot number.
Have fun. I still enjoy my hero.

Hey guys. I currently have the UnrEVOked 3 "root" installed on my phone. I have to say that I've been pretty happy with it even though it doesn't have full root I can still use almost all the important ROOT apps.
Anyway, considering that the official 2.2 is supposed to come out within the next few days I was wondering if I could install it with the UnrEVOked on the phone or do I have to go back to the stock version? I have no idea how to go back to the stock version. If I need to go back to the stock version can someone please tell me how I can do that?
Thanks in advance!
Hmmm Froyo is not that cool. Id wait awhile to make sure you can still obtain root. Because you may not ever ever ever get root again with the new ota update. But if u must, install htc sync on ur computer then look on this site for 1.47 shipped supersonic rom. Download it, double click that chit, and u have a stock, battery draining, controlled by da man, 1/4 pound piece of chit. Have fun. We'll miss ya. Was fun having you haha. !!

ROFL.................ROFL
Hahaha, good one. The possibility of losing Titanium, SetCPU and the other root programs sucks. But if FROYO really delivers on all the things it says (installing apps to SD card, full flash support, much faster browser) I think I'm willing to chance it.
Just out of curiosity: What do you guys think would happen if I try to update the official FROYO update while I still have the unrEVOked on my phone?
Another question: If it is necessary to restore the phone to it's original state can I just do it through the MENU>SETTINGS>etc to restore it?
after HTC/Sprint releases the official 2.2, just wait a few days and someone will have a stock rooted 2.2, and quite possibly a few weeks down the line unrevoked will probably have a unrevoked 4 for 2.2....
vbyt,
I hear what your saying but I know myself. I'm going to have a big hardON to d/l FROYO the second it comes out. I'm not a very patient guy. I just want to make sure that I don't brick my phone trying to do it.

I'm in the same boat. My phone is rebooting everytime I get a call while I'm already talking to someone. I'm running Unrevoked @ 1.32.651.6. Can I at least easily go to the last OTA update somehow to see if that fixes my issues>? I still want Titanium to work tho. What's my best bet right now? I need my phone for business this week and I cant afford the phone to keep rebooting on me.
Is there a newer Unrevoked I can go to and what do I need to do to get there from 1.32.651.6/Unrevoked?
You know the devs are going to find a way to root the official 2.2
I have almost no doubt that they will. That is why I'm willing to give the official 2.2 a shot. I guess time will tell

Because as good as some people seem to think this ROM is, Cyanogen are not gods and the Rom does not a Jesus phone make. It is decent, but definitely not for everyone. And I want a fully functional 2.2 Rom made specifically for the Evo with all the HTC Sense goodness - at least for a little bit.
Can always do what I did last time...RUU back to 1.47 to root and then use the root method that will inevitably be found for 2.2. That way I can use 2.2 tonight (hopefully) and then root later after the devs here have figured it out.
CM6 is not the bend over backwards must have Rom that everyone made it out to be. There were plenty of things it was missing. Especially for people that need the phone for work with a decent exchange supporting app and calendar. The AOSP one does not fit the bill very well, and there is NO REASON I should have to buy all the support from the market with Touchdown Exchange for 2.0+, especially when it comes built in. Oh, and why is sense so bad when we have so many posts about where to find widgets like the clock, messaging, calendar, agenda, etc. Just use the built in one and be good to go!

Like you said, there are a lot of things currently missing from his ROM. To be perfectly honest I'm pretty fond of the stock ROM with SENSE UI. It works pretty well in my opinion. Like I said before I look forward to trying out the official 2.2 release.
I am rooting my buddy's EVO this weekend and he isnt the most technically savvy guy ... I have a DINC and i am quite familar with loading ROMS kernels radio's etc on it ... Just curious as to what ROM people would recommend on the EVO for a guy thats not really technically inclined... I current run CM on DINC but i think a Sense based ROM would be better for him because thats what he is used to ... been looking around and noticed Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo seems to be pretty popular.. any other suggestions?
nope, thats about simple as it gets xD i could recommend a cyanogen rom (6 or 7) but no 4g and no sense. myn is a good rom i used it for a while
MikFroyo 4.3 is sweet and fast. Also it is very clean and a sense rom.
Ricism78's Stock Turbo, with Netarchy kernal of choice. Stable and fast. Everything works.
Dont root, keep him stock.
Unless you want to be his phone support from now on.
(I speak from experience)
I would agree on keeping him stock.
If not, the most stable ROM is probably Myn's from my experience :\

+2, if you do the root you're tech support from now on. Also if the phone gets bricked, guess who is to blame? If your friend wants a rooted phone have him do it himself, doing it manually, so he learns a bit about abd, patience, and fear...
That bring said if your friend likes Sense, I'd recommend Fresh or Warm. For a senseless rom, Vaelpak is really nice.

I was looking throught the ROM choices for the droid incredible and I noticed a lot of them. I began looking through them and i couldnt decide which one i wanted. I currently have CM6.1 but it keeps looping. Any ideas on which is the best one and why?
I think it really depends on what you're looking for. Cyanogen is a great AOSP-based ROM. If you're looking for a Sense-based ROM, there's Skyraider or Redemptive Revolution. The three ROMs I've mentioned are just a few of MANY. They all bring something good to the table. It all boils down to what your preferences are.
Also, I'm currently running CM6.1 with no problems. You might try wiping your cache and Dalvik and re-flashing.

If there was a "best ROM," everyone would be using it, so it would be the only ROM. What we need are criteria to help you select. Answer my questions below and I'll be able to give you some insight:
-Do you prefer Sense (stock UI), or vanilla UI (like in Cyanogen), or something completely different?
-Rank these three in the order of importance: speed, stability, features.
-Do you want a high degree of customization (above what a stock ROM offers), or do you just want it to work out of the box?
I tried that and it just keeps looping. I would like something that wont brick easy and with some features that i wont have with the stock ROM and pretty fast and smooth. The UI doesnt really matter just as long as its cool and i can add themes and i would perfer some customization. I hope Im not being to picky.

Yes, read the OP threads, since those tell you what each ROM contains. If you are looking for something specific, just flash one of them and use it for a few days. You can always create a nandroid backup of it, and flash the other to test it out.
You aren't really going to know the intricate details of the differences unless you just flash them.
Are you looking for a ROM that has something specific? You will want to look at the Theming threads too, cause there are quite a few themes for both of those ROM's as well. Those threads will also tell you what versions of the ROM it'll work on as well.
Not as of right now. I'm just looking for something thats cool and i can have some fun with. Also how would i know if my radio is on S-OFF?

It actually says in your hboot menu.
Kind of a subjective question haha... but I have been switching back between lous stuff. So redemptive revolution and redemption. The later uses the incredible framework and the first uses the evo framework. Both are super sexy with his kernel.
I thought so. Its on S-OFF but i dont remember doing it ha. and i just installed Redemption ROM v2.3
That's actually what I have been using for the past week and a half, decided to return to it and it's been flawless.
give both evervolv and OMFGB a try. they are two of the current Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) roms and ive had great luck with both.
Anyone know of any cool themes and what are some awesome things I can do with redemption 2.3

I started off trying to stay stock but rooted. Took off the bloatware. I then decided to take virtuous 3.2 a shot. I really liked it. I have the 2400 battery that with juice defender I was getting almost 36 hours with a good amount of use (txt and web surfing). I was reading up on Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.20 and I love it. Its everything everyone says. Its fast, the battery life is good so far but I am still tweaking it. I am a novice user but i guess it all depends what you want really. Re is solid and I have had VERY little problems.
Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.20 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893233
Running the SkyRaider 3.5 and loving it.
Trying to download the redemption 2.3 to give it a try, but the servers they host it on suck and it says its gonna take 4-6 hours to down load it
I'm currently on 2.3 and I like it. It's smooth and pretty fast. The only thing is that I cannot find any themes for it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as the themes are using the same framework shouldn't they install fine?
thats what i hear but im not 100% sure but i think redemption 2.3 does not have the evo frame work, i think it has its own and i couldnt find many themes for it.
Ultimate Droid is really nice.. Many tweaks for the user to further customize the ROM to your liking.
The cyanogen7 rom (I'm now using build 22) and its been about as solid as I could of hoped it could be. I tried omfgb and it was great as well. But like what others have said, decide what you want out of it and try a few different roms to see what works well for you.

mostly all the roms are very easy to use, i recomend that you try CM7 RC1, i used to like sense but since i flash Cyanogen i never return to sense roms, even leaving on 4G area and now cyanogen almost got 4G fully working, promiss you, you gonna love it

But if you don't like clockwork, dload ra's recovery.

Really, anything labeled DEV you should stay away from.
Everything else is mostly the same. I recommend mikfroyo or Myn.
Stick with kernel #15 . It has the least issues in my experience at least

Unrevoked roots your phone just like any other way, except faster and less hassle. The only real difference is if you need to flash a splash screen.
How do I do a full wipe like they advise?
Might be best to ask these in the Q&A forum and not in Android Development.

Welcome to the crack... the best thing to remember is BACK UP (NAND) BEfore you flash.. as long as you do this, there is very little you can do to REALLY mess up your phone. Just learn to WIPE, and WIPE SOME MORE..
One last "noob" advice.. Buy titanium back up... it will save you MASS amounts of time if you do it right. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. be more than happy to help!
I'm sorry for the long post. I tend to get carried away when I type. Thoughts just start flowin, can't help it.
I'm thinking about leaving my 3VO for the Epic 4G. I have a few questions that I would like to try to have answered with the least amount of trolling, flaming, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love HTC. I have the Android dude tatted on my left arm with the HTC letters in his body. Hard to explain, awesome to look at (off-topic I know but if I switch, it's easy to change cause the HTC is skin-colored). I also love Sense, yeah there's pros and cons about it but it's still sweet.
My opinion: Pros: WIDGETS. Love the widgets. I have the VM 3VO with ICS/S3.6 but I'm using Viper3D S4.1 as my daily driver. TBH, I've tried AOKP, AOSP, MIUI, JB, literally every rom. But for some strange reason I've always gone back to Sense. Mostly because of the widgets. I like MIUI roms because the whole text pop-up, I like AOSP because of the lightweightiveness, I love JB because of the amazing implemented features. Sense is the most beautiful, easy-to-use UI that I've seen. Con(s): BLOATED. Whenever I hide an app in the app drawer, Sense sometimes FC's and takes forever to load. MEMORY INTENSIVE. I have 1GB of ram, right now with nothing running but XDA Premium App, I have 144MB free. After using the Task Manager, I have about 170-190MB free on a good day. HBOOT VERSIONS. Drives me nuts. I'm S-Off so it makes downgrading easier. But having to change hboots to flash certain roms can be a pain.
My plan is to get get the phone before I let my 3VO go, that way I can root it and check some roms out. Definitely gonna root before anything. Also gonna get triangle away so I don't run into any problems.
A few more things, 1) what's the difference between "Original Development" and "Android Development"? In the EVO forums, there's just CDMA and GSM. 2) if anyone feels up to giving me a few pointers about flashing/rooting that would be great. 3) Opinions about certain roms that are good for this device. I'm trying to shoot towards a JB rom with TouchWiz UI if that's even possible.
Thank you for taking time to read this and respond. I greatly appreciate it. Have a good day.
1) if I remember correctly,
Android dev- touchwiz ROMs
Original dev- AOSP, AOKP, Etc.
2)As long as you follow flashing instructions on their respective pages you should be good, but look out for any "special" things you might have have to do with the ROM
3)I would say that cm10.1 WILD FOR THE NIGHT is a good one

Yes there are multiple touchwiz based Jellybean roms available. Im currently running the GA10 stock rooted leak and its great. If you are such a HTC fan why not get Evo 4G LTE instead? My wife has that phone, bone stock, and its great.
I also upgraded from the 3vo and haven't looked back.
Just make sure your okay with touchwiz or aosp/aokp/cm.
The display blows the 3vo out of the water.
Stop thinking and start switching.

This will give you a stock rooted build with the ga10 modem which is currently an excellent modem, I recommend you start with a stock build for now, so you can get a feel for the Epic touch (less buggy than custom roms). JB is super stable on this phone right now. Read, read, read before you do anything. Look up Rwilco's repositories for guidance. QbKing77 on you tube is great, has a lot of good videos on the Epic touch.

I have Virgin Mobile right now and I'm not planning on switching carriers anytime soon due to jobs not hiring in my area. Until I get a good paying job that can pay rent and a $70 phone bill, $35 is good for me.
It will be awhile before I get the phone, unless I can snag one off craigslist (although I checked and no one is letting one go for VM) and not willing to pay $250 plus shipping from fleabay.
If anyone would like to tell me their opinions they have on TW, much is appreciated as it would give me a good outlook on what I'm gonna be using. As mentioned before, Jellybean is amazing, so when I get the E4GT, I will be definitely rooting, debloating, and finding a JB rom. The only thing I feel like I would be troubled by is the whole modem thing. If anyone could point me on a post of all the instructions I need, that would be great as I spend most of my time on the EVO 3D forums for now.
Thanks again.
There are only 2 things to really know about modems.
Touchwiz based JB roms only work with JB modems
JB modems will not work on non Touchwiz, non JB roms.
This basically means that with CM10, AOKP, AOSP, and anything ICS or GB any modem except one from JB will work. In most cases I just run the newest modem because it works the best for me.
