The notification LED on the Evo is usually hard to see unless you stand over your phone. Is there an app that would blink the capacitive buttons for notifications?
Or better yet would be this feature built into CM6.
I've searched and couldn't find anything like this for the Evo.

Well I did some more digging and found an app called Keylights! I don't believe it's Evo specific but I tested it and it works perfect. Settings can be adjusted, blink frequency, length of time which buttons are lit etc.

Could somebody that knows what they are doing make an app to change sms, email, missed call led notification to blue? I know we have a blue light, it glows whenever your phone is done charging, and it would look really cool

I was wondering this too. I know in handcent there is an option to select the LED color but it doesn't work. I know sometimes they have release updates to enable the LED for some phones in the past. Maybe they are working on it?
They could be, but I've realized that its a lot easier, and faster to ask the community for support. Who knows when we will get an update, to froyo and such if that what you ment.

I'm curious about this too. I have actually tried several things to change the color of my notification light and nothing works.
At first my light wouldn't blink at all so I started looking into how to fix it. After doing the led test it started working when doing the test I noticed the green light actually flashes magenta so then I decided I needed a magenta light lol. I tried lots of things with no luck but I'm super new at learning how to customize Android. I just figured it was because I don't know what I'm doing yet. I usually use Handcent but recently changed to Chomp which also has the option to change the lights color.

Ohh sorry Ive never really used handcent, but if they could get the blue notification light working I would definitely start using it !

Handcent is a pretty good 3rd party app. Some prefer Chomp. To each his own.
But I was looking through the release notes and heres an example from their website:

Yeah I will do that today, and I will post back here with the info..
Well I chatted with the handcent developer today, and we ran a few tests with the leds. We didn't do much, but at this point we found that you need su, or root access to control the led's to turn on and off etc... I'm not saying its not possible for support, and he didn't say anything either, but at least its being worked on and looked at

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm gonna talk to him tonight possibly, and try to figure out more about It.
But I'm pretty sure I will be switching to the evo this weekend because this Saturday is the 29th day, so if someone else wants to start talking to the dev about it that would be a good idea ha

Well, we found out that you do need root access for any led support.. this isn't a problem for many of us.
I was also told that they will consider and look in to adding support in handcent to change led colors for rooted epics, so its lookin pretty good at this point
I'm switching to the evo tomorrow, but I will still try to keep up to date with the dev, just to kinda finish what I started haha, just everybody cross your fingers ....
Its SO bizarre that these phone manufacturers will add LED lights but have limited or next to non-existent support/use of the LEDs.
If you are gonna include a LED, you can at least make it functional for more than charging. -___-;;;
Well, great news that Handcent is trying to make use of the LED! Would love for it to flash blue or magenta for text messages.
You don't need root to run the lcd test that you can change the colors with. Why would a program need root to change the color then?

I just found out (by playing around with the LCD test mode) that Epic also has magenta LED color besides the red and blue colors.
Try yourself by entering *#0*#
We could probably use three colors for three different events, for instance, email, sms, and missed calls.

Whats hard to understand, he's looking for an app to change the trackball color when you recieve a call or text. Which I dont think is out yet since theres no full root
What the OP is missing in the post is the word notification.
The top battery led indicator (see page 16 of the G2 user manual "Notification LED") doesn't flash as notification of missed calls, e-mail, etc and a fix should be available soon. I contacted HTC and that's what they told me.

One more thing, HTC refers to it as a Trackpad, not "Digital track ball".

Cyanogen has written a file than enables notification. It works for me, but would need to be reinstalled at each reboot.
Try the app noLED. Not perfect, but a decent alternative work-around.

I'd be careful with this...this was made for the amoled screens and it worked well because it only needed to light that small portion of the screen. lcd's are backlit. This has the potential to kill your battery crazy fast.

I love this work-around. I only use it for texts tho, but have yet to see any battery drain.
perhaps i'll leave it on for a while and see if theres any big hits.
Not sure if it will help with battery life while playing fpse but if it will, I'd like to know how! Anyone care to shed some light on this?

I can add that the four button backlights are hardware linked to the keyboard backlights. I do believe CM7 kernels may be able to change the keyboard backlight timer, current timings at 30sec, 15sec, 6sec, etc., to not come on at all.

only CM7 huh? Shame... Would love to use CM7 only if it's stable enough for my daily driver. No other hack or anything?
I experience and read of the unreliable and slow blinking LED notification light.
In my case, it will work about 50% of the time. I am hoping somebody in this community is looking it over.
It would be nice if were more reliable and at least blink faster.

Yep, this is what I use and it works very well. Set the blink rate to very fast (very nice rate), ans buy the full version, as you can set lights for social apps too.
I was looking at light flow but holy cow the permissions it wants gives me pause.
Is all that necessary?
Well, if others are saying they've used it for a bit it's likely ok. But I would assume it needs all the extra permissions because it needs to collect data from them to light the LED. Can't light the LED on a new SMS if you don't know there is a new SMS.

I have lightflow too it work good on the stock Verizon with free and paid version. But I have tried AOKP no luck. The MODAC rom has special script to work with trackball alert app led notifications. I wish app light flow would have support scripts.

I use LightFlow also, but I have the blink rate set to Always On. According to the developer, this saves battery because code has to run every time it blinks. Not sure if this applies to the Galaxy Nexus.

I had the 'sleep of death' testing out liteflow... I made the I assume mistake of enabling that 'other' LED that it detected as well. I had to redo my phone after that..
Looking for the best led control app available. Having the notification led back was one of the biggest wins on this phone for me (having come from a skyrocket 2 days ago). not having a notification led has been bugging me since I came from blackberry. I had an app on my bold that could make calls, texts, and emails different colors, combinations or patterns. Would like this app to make the led flash while ringing too, not just a missed call.

Another option that you got is to flash an CM10 or or PA Hybrid ROM, it has a built-in seetting for Led Control, it works flawlessly.

Tried that one, and it was derped on US S3. I tested the miss call, and it did show the color, however, the light would not go away afterwards(even after clearing the call, disabling the app, and even uninstalling the app)
Lightflow so far has worked pretty well(the one for rooted phones)
I am using light flow. I did not need the pro features but the dev deserves money for the supprt he provides

Light Flow is def a great app. Provides plenty of customization and if needed the pro version provides LED notifications for many different apps from the Play store.
None of these can have the led on when screen is on or incoming call.

Where did you get the rooted version of LightFlow? Just download the market version and it will ask for root? I don't see any of those details on the blog by the author.... just see where he said he's been messing with the root version, not posting it for download, do you have a link to it somewhere?

Definitely looking for the full version for my rooted SIII if you know anything about that! Will pay for it, just to be clear, but need the full version, not just the lite one....
Full version of light flow has the ability to be used in rooted mode. Works well here. No issues.

the latest lightflow version is causing wake locks and preventing the phone from going into deep sleep
the LED controls in the ROMs is nice but kinda sucks as it doesnt cycle thru the lights... meaning if i have a missed call (red), voice mail (purple) and a SMS (blue) only my red light will only flash... will not cycle thru meaning with lightflow, it would flash red, then purple, then blue... the built in one in the ROMs will only show red...
