I experience and read of the unreliable and slow blinking LED notification light.
In my case, it will work about 50% of the time. I am hoping somebody in this community is looking it over.
It would be nice if were more reliable and at least blink faster.
What application do you use to manage your notification light colors?

^ Install that. It takes a bit to customize just how you want it, but it runs flawlessly.
There's a free version floating around on the market, but it's well worth the $1-2 or whatever it is now.

Yep, this is what I use and it works very well. Set the blink rate to very fast (very nice rate), ans buy the full version, as you can set lights for social apps too.
I was looking at light flow but holy cow the permissions it wants gives me pause.
Is all that necessary?
Well, if others are saying they've used it for a bit it's likely ok. But I would assume it needs all the extra permissions because it needs to collect data from them to light the LED. Can't light the LED on a new SMS if you don't know there is a new SMS.

Poor poor me cannot find a dark theme where they show screen shots of the messaging apps. They all seem to show every possible screen but those.
I am looking for reversed messaging app skins. white/gray/red (I don't care) text with BLACK backgrounds.

I use LightFlow also, but I have the blink rate set to Always On. According to the developer, this saves battery because code has to run every time it blinks. Not sure if this applies to the Galaxy Nexus.

Could somebody that knows what they are doing make an app to change sms, email, missed call led notification to blue? I know we have a blue light, it glows whenever your phone is done charging, and it would look really cool
Yeah me too
I was wondering this too. I know in handcent there is an option to select the LED color but it doesn't work. I know sometimes they have release updates to enable the LED for some phones in the past. Maybe they are working on it?
They could be, but I've realized that its a lot easier, and faster to ask the community for support. Who knows when we will get an update, to froyo and such if that what you ment.

I'm curious about this too. I have actually tried several things to change the color of my notification light and nothing works.
At first my light wouldn't blink at all so I started looking into how to fix it. After doing the led test it started working when doing the test I noticed the green light actually flashes magenta so then I decided I needed a magenta light lol. I tried lots of things with no luck but I'm super new at learning how to customize Android. I just figured it was because I don't know what I'm doing yet. I usually use Handcent but recently changed to Chomp which also has the option to change the lights color.

Handcent is a pretty good 3rd party app. Some prefer Chomp. To each his own.
But I was looking through the release notes and heres an example from their website:
Handcent sms Version 3.2.3
27 Jul 2010
* Add LED supportion for EVO,it also imporve blink LED not only 5 minutes
* Fix Mms supportion for Ally
* Support Enable,Disable LED option for all sense UI phone
* Support Lock pattern for incredible
* Fix some widget bug
* Add greek sms mode option
http://www.handcent.com/News.php
Maybe you can try pinging them to see if they are working on it?

Well I chatted with the handcent developer today, and we ran a few tests with the leds. We didn't do much, but at this point we found that you need su, or root access to control the led's to turn on and off etc... I'm not saying its not possible for support, and he didn't say anything either, but at least its being worked on and looked at

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm gonna talk to him tonight possibly, and try to figure out more about It.
But I'm pretty sure I will be switching to the evo this weekend because this Saturday is the 29th day, so if someone else wants to start talking to the dev about it that would be a good idea ha
Thank you for updating
I will just remain happy to have a red notification light
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well, we found out that you do need root access for any led support.. this isn't a problem for many of us.
I was also told that they will consider and look in to adding support in handcent to change led colors for rooted epics, so its lookin pretty good at this point
I'm switching to the evo tomorrow, but I will still try to keep up to date with the dev, just to kinda finish what I started haha, just everybody cross your fingers ....
Its SO bizarre that these phone manufacturers will add LED lights but have limited or next to non-existent support/use of the LEDs.
If you are gonna include a LED, you can at least make it functional for more than charging. -___-;;;
Well, great news that Handcent is trying to make use of the LED! Would love for it to flash blue or magenta for text messages.
You don't need root to run the lcd test that you can change the colors with. Why would a program need root to change the color then?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
you are gonna be so sad when you get the evo. i cant believe you are switching im offended...........
I just found out (by playing around with the LCD test mode) that Epic also has magenta LED color besides the red and blue colors.
Try yourself by entering *#0*#
We could probably use three colors for three different events, for instance, email, sms, and missed calls.

Im going with a bug
At the moment the leds hex codes sent through to the US versions of the S3 are all messed up. This is common across all apps that try to control the led color and is certainly a bug in the samsung builds for the US editions (it works on the euro ones)
I'm looking into rooted users being able to control the colors better by bypassing android and using unix to send commands to the device. We've got red, green and blue working but not any color mixing yet.
thanks so much andrew! Look forward to using this when you are finished!

I've tried blink, sms popup, and LED control and the colors you have to pick from are not matching with what colors the phone flashes. Just didn't know if there was anything out there yet for us to control that
I noticed this too. It's funny once I noticed it was purple lol. But it would be cool to find a app or maybe it come in a ROM or something. But I doubt anything is like that now. Just have to stay patient and let the devs know about it and hope we can see it in the near future.

I am running stock. This has all different colors. It also will produce random white/blue LEDs without any notification in the notification bar.
Another option would be to root, and go with the CM10 preview build (it's very stable at this point, good enough for a daily). You can apply LED colors/blink intervals to just about anything with it. No other apps or hacking required. :good:

I've tried both as well, I'm on a Telus SIII (I747M) and not having any luck with any of the suggested apps, but I have heard of people getting it to work. So at this point, it could be possible its a difference in the devices and control of them. I'm glad someone is looking into this because I used to have a BlackBerry and I loved the ability to customize the LED completely down to what colour light flashes when a certain contact texts or calls. It was so customizable, this is the first Android device I've had that has an LED, so hopefully we will be able to take control of it! :good:
Works on S III
Works great on my Galaxy SIII (rooted, Sprint version) !
I'll vouch for Light Flow, but its a little buggy. my green light stays on when i have signal (even when turned off)
Light flow just got updated today and fixed the green light always on with a lot of other app fixes.

Having the notification led back was one of the biggest wins on this phone for me (having come from a skyrocket 2 days ago). not having a notification led has been bugging me since I came from blackberry. I had an app on my bold that could make calls, texts, and emails different colors, combinations or patterns. Would like this app to make the led flash while ringing too, not just a missed call.

the LED controls in the ROMs is nice but kinda sucks as it doesnt cycle thru the lights... meaning if i have a missed call (red), voice mail (purple) and a SMS (blue) only my red light will only flash... will not cycle thru meaning with lightflow, it would flash red, then purple, then blue... the built in one in the ROMs will only show red...
just an fyi

IMO: you should switch to a CM based ROM (or a ROM like e.g. "BAKED Black Bean" from user Travp) which has the CM hack included.
Then you don't have to use a third party app like LightFlow because the CM hack just works

No charging, charged, specific contacts/mms.
CM's implementation is limited to apps. So you select an app you want a notification for and the color and frequency of the light. That's it.

Not charging/charged lights... Or specific colors for calls/texts/emails from specific people. I could do without the contact specific option, but I love the charging lights. I have the wireless charging mod on my phone so I'm very, um, anal retentive, about making sure my charging setup is in good working order. I like to verify it with the lights. Plus, it's nice to know by a glance when your phone is full and good to go!
I wish I didn't have to use Lightflow, but CM just doesn't have the bells and whistles I prefer on that regard.
Thanks
