New firmware coming to Orange Desire - Desire General

Hey,
Would any of you know when the 2.29.xx firmware will be available for the htc desire with orange rom??
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

going on their performance on releasing updates in the past...about 2011...maybe.
You can contact orange customer services and ask, but they'll just lie to you.
I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you

Ok, so would i benefit from rooting this phone and putting a official debranded desire rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Possibly, but what benefits do you expect?
The problem with being on orange branded is that there's no way to get back to an orange stock rom after rooting.
This would possibly affect any warranty claims so it is a risk.....
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

You can root then use nandbackup so if you want to go back you can restore to orange rom.
I forget to backup mine but never regretted as I have using stock roms.

but once its rooted that effects the warranty and you'll be liable to pay for any repairs.

you are correct.
i have tried before to restore an orange nand and then apply the latest OTA over the top to try and get it unrooted but i haven't got it to work...
i may try again.
in the meanwhile, we'll just have to hope an RUU becomes available.

You can get back to fully unrooted stock orange rom I helped make a guide somewhere in the dev section. It is takes a lot longer than an ruu but it's possible.

But you still end up with the superuser icon in the menu.

No you don't you remove the superuser icon when you have root you can use adb to remove the icon and other stuff rooting adds to your phone

ste,
i've tried the process you did a number of time.
i think it only worked on an AMOLED Desire (0n 2.1).
i've tried with a Froyo orange nand and tried to flash the latest OTA over it to get rid of root but it just bootloops.
dont know if there's anything else that could be tried....
i dont actually need to go back to orange stock but it would be nice to know if theres a way.

Yea the backup is from my phone which is amoled. I dont know if flashing the 2.2 update will let slcd screens be used. To get out of bootloop flash tge update twice. Once removes clockwork mod recovery. The 2nd time the update will be flashed on stock recovery and you should be out of bootloop

Ota update

Hi I am running a froyo mod and have been for a while now.
How can I get the official ota update for froyo?
Or am I just as well off sticking with the mod I am running .... I'm not sure what benefits the official release has over the current mod I am using
Thanks for any help here
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Well if you install the official, you will lose root and who knows when you will be able to gain that back.
Personally I see no point in getting the official as these mods are cleaner, faster, tweaked and well supported for.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you really do want to get the official OTA update you'll have to flash back to an HTC ROM and then update.
There are already quite a lot of ROMs available in the development section which are based on this weekend's update which won't mess with your root.
I installed one which is close to the stock ROM but with root access and busybox. It's perfect for me and I still have root.

Anyway to take away ROOT beside flashing RUU?

Anyway to take away ROOT beside flashing RUU? I have my HTC Desire rooted, a Hong Kong official device. but many of the people in Hong Kong want to get warranty service back. The only way currently that we know is to flash RUU to unroot our device.
HOWEVER, there is no 2.1 nor 2.2 official Hong Kong RUU in the world!! only test rom, it's useLESS.
Is there anyway to take away ROOT? Or anyone can discover official Hong Kong RUU rom? no matter 2.1 or 2.2
So desperate! We have been waiting for long time!
Thanks
Moved to Q&A as not development
Well you can unroot as in remove su permission, by just removing the superuser app and the su binary. But in the rooting process, you have made changes to recovery as well as possibly hboot. And if you have flashed a custom rom, many other things might have been changed, so to return completely to stock, a ruu is needed.
Usually HTC doesn't check whether your phone is supposed to have wwe rom or not, so if it is just for warranty return, it should not matter.

My rom is the Hong Kong original rom + root access. not a custom rom. what I can do to change back to original recovery as well as hboot?
Thanks
If an ota update came they can unroot your phone.

Gosh! you even don't know what it is. I tell you a rooted official 2.1 can't upgrade to 2.2 via OTA. It has signature check stopping you do that during the upgrade process. Try it before you leave your post please.

[Q] ROM installing problems

Whenever i try to install a new ROM on my HTC Wildfire 2.1 it blocks at the boot-up.
I erased everything and the cache memory from the ClockWork Recovery and made a back-up image.
I tried installing them from the cold-boot and with ROM Manager even though it's the same thing.
Also, by updating it to 2.2 will i lose my root?
Thanks
I am rockin a hero200 and i have gone between 1.5 to 2.2 to 2.1 then 2.3 back to 2.1 not in the same day of course.Through all that i have kept root with out having to re-root.
you should be fine depending on how you go about rooting it. as for the problem you are having im not the most qualified out there but i do know my fare share it could be a bad recovery flash or your phone didn't hold the root i had that happen once.
i would recommend going on the market and downloading Root Checker to see if your is actually rooted.
what method did you use to root.
The one where you use the android sdk. Not the unrevoked one
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
not sure if i can link so goggle Guide one click root wildfire. <-- i beleave this is an unrevoked method
i talked to a friend he had a similar issue and that worked.
it should be the first. I usually dont recommend the one click root mainly because i like to have control over what is going on but it fixed a friends phone.
like i said before use Root Checker to see if your is actually rooted.
when i first rooted my phone last year i had a recovery img but no root privileges in the the phone and i fixed it by re-rooting.
il look some more and get back to you but if you want to give this a shot i hope this helps. good luck my friend
The app says that my phone is rooted.
So, i remember now how i rooted the phone.
Installed the HBOOT drivers, then Unrevoked.
Any way of un-rooting the phone, update, re-root?
Also, will it work on 2.2?
ok so this is what i found you can try to find a wildfire stock ruu. I have never looked into un-rooting so im not the best one to ask. From what i understand it flashes a stock rom back to the phone.
you can also try looking up other methods of flashing and test them out when i started thats what i did. i mean your phone is already saying its rooted whats the harm. just read and ask questions before you try something never hurts to be safe and let the others know what your attempting and why.
Unrooting is not my problem.
I want to know why i can't install a custom rom on my phone.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
n0ster are you going back to stock using odin? That was my problem and with my captivate, I used odin did the back to the American stock and I was able to load my first rom which was firefly!!!
No. Now it seems i can't update to 2.2.
So i should go back to stock, and try installing a new rom?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I was thinking.
If i would reset the phone to its factory settings, then root it again.
Would i still be able to install the ROM?

Why i Can't post reply when i using thread working aopengles 1.1?
can't root
my phone hang
Should i use the unrevoked 1 click version or the classic one?
Also, should i let it update, or then it's going to be unrootable?

I successfuly routed my wildfire but could anyone tell me how to turn off sim protection ? Thanks a lot ! B.R
how do you root your wildfire?
Mine is Froyo 2.2.1 and the unrevoked method isn't working with it.

Method/best rom to go back to stock, help.

Hi,
I have leedroid 3.1.4 thus my DHD is rooted but also have baseband/radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2, and Clockwork recovery on.
What is the best gingerbread ROM to go back to (unbranded)?, and can i leave the radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 on or does it get wiped over?
Also what is the best method to use?
Thanks
If I got it right, you want to go back to an unbranded htc stock rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using Tapatalk
Hi,
Yes thats right, wanting a gingerbread rom.
Cheers
You would have to flash an RUU for your region and then make your device S-On again. I would provide links but I'm pressed for time right now, sorry.
this rom is close to stock and is rooted.. i used it for a while and never had problems

If you're running a custom ROM you won't receive the OTA notification but you could always just download it manually.

Means if I'm using affinity I wont receive ota update,I know. What I means was can I just flash that official Rom with clockwork mod?after flashing back to official Rom I know I lost root and s on back. So will it receive ota notification if I flash the official Rom? I'm abit confuse >< srry I'm bad in this...
it´s not that easy to return to stock... the best thing you can do is follow the wiki for rooting. the wiki also descripes a way to return to stock (means reinstall official recovery, s-on and remove superCID)
here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
and if you are waiting for a update to 4.0 ICS you better stay rooted and use customs roms
EDIT: in my country updates are recieved through carrier, so i think it´s important to have the original carrier firmware and CID to recieve ota updates

Thx a lot hoffmas!=) well, how can you be so sure desire z would get ics? And if I flash virtuous affinity v1.4.6,then I want to update it to version 1.4.8. Do I have to factory reset and wipe everything in order to update to v1.4.8? I can use the virtuous unity v9 kernel right?? I know its stupid question..hope someone can help me with it =/
the desire z will probably get a update to ics and if so you will see a thread on xda with the stock rom to flash without loosing root but for sure cyanogen is going to be faster
wiping is always a good idea. best thing is to use superwipe and the wipe options in the recovery (system/data/cache)
here is a link for the superwipe (flash it through recovery):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044992
you can use unity v9 (flash it after first time booting), but unity v10 kernel is included in virtuous affinity 1.48
pls use the thanks button if my posting helped you

Thx, but the unroot part is so complicated, instead of using that wiki, can I use this guide?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-g2-htc-desire-z-complete-guide/
Sure there are different ways to return to stock, but i only post links to guides i used myself (so i know they work)
So maybe someone else knows, if the guide you posted works...
Actually the wiki looks complicated, but it isn't. It's a step by step guide and what is most important: it is a safe way
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
About the super wipe,I should flash those 3 zip once I have root on stock rom?
No, you have to choose one .zip and flash it through recovery after you rooted an installed a custom recovery....
So if you want to install virtuous affinity use superwipe before flashing affinity (after using superwipe you have to install a new rom, because the old one is gone)
You are sure you know what you are doing? Do some researching before you start to root your device... Rooting means you can brick your phone.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169004 can i just flash the 1st ota rom (only root and busybox added)? then check for future ota updates?
i don´t think you will recieve future ota updates using this rom... but roms like that one are the reason for me to say, that there is no point once you are rooted to wait for ota updates
official updates do come from your carrier and so its important to have the original CID and carrier firmware, as i mentioned already.
another hit on the thanks button would be appreciated
I know wat do know what root means,I rooted wildfire and flash custom Rom before..but I don't plan to reverse back to stock since I already know they will be no future update..but for my desire z..is just that I'm impatient of waiting the ota...so maybe have a try on affinity, but I can't flash the official ota Rom (2.3.3 and sense 2.1) to return everything stock right? I know..kinda dumb of me,forgive me on my stupidity >~<
no i don´t think so... but maybe i am wrong. As i returned to stock for warranty, i did everything as written in the wiki guide and because i didn´t find the original vodafone firmware i did not recieve ota updates (even with original recovery, simlock and CID restore)
but i´m not a dev... maybe i´m completly wrong
If I'm grasping this correctly, you are worried that you won't receive OTA after rooting and flashing? I'm curious as to what OTA you are waiting for and what it has that other ROMs don't? (Honest question, I think the Z's had a few more updates than G2)
Not knowing aside, i'd say root it, flash what you want, and only return to stock if needed for warranty. Chances are you're going to find more support from the community here than with the manufacturer.

Exactly! Well, wat I'm worrying was after I root and flashed then, the official ota (maybe sense 3.0) roll out then I will be stuck at root =/ I knw root I can do a lot of stuff..but idk y my mind just like stock =/ if the sense 3.0 of the future update can have horizontal home screen I will get it..
I don't know truthfully. My guess is that any update that WOULD come out would then immediately be ripped apart by the community and made better anyways. There are already quite a few ROMs with Sense 2.1/3.0 features, 3.5, etc, and ports from other phones that support landscape mode (a mt4g ROM if I recall).
You can always return to stock, though I don't think you'd ever want to. ;-)
