Sense-like dialer - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Hi, I don't like sense but the dialer they have is something I find useful. The fact I can start writing a name and it gives me all the contacts that start with those letters, same with numbers. If I'm trying to call a 718 number and dial 718 all the numbers that start with 718 come up.
Is there anything on the forums like this? Don't tell me to just use sense because I tried it and threw up a little in my mouth. No offense to those that use it, its just not my cup of tea.

Compressed MMS/ Blurry

Ok everytime I receive an mms the pictures comeout blurry and compressed. I have sene the original pictures from the other phones they came from and they aren't blurry at all. Why are they getting compressed on my side?
This is not my messaging app. I tried receiving mms thru stock messaging app and thru handcent which is what I use and both compressed my pictures.
I'm running cm6.1.1 on pershoots 12/20 kernel this only just started happening 2 days ago. I'm thinking it could be pershoots kernel but I doubt he made any changes that affect the mms.
Any thoughts?
Sorry if this has been asked I went back a few pages and couldn't find it.

I have tried re flashing and nothing. Can anyone help me out?
HTC Vision S-OFF CM6.1 Stable Oc'd to 1.5ghz on Pershoots Kernel
As far as I know picture messages always get compressed since the first pictures sent via MMS were from small, worthless camera phones.
If it bothers you, there is always the option to e-mail them
This has to do with the UA on t mobiles servers. It's this way with (so it seems) every newer android phone t mobile has. My slide that I had was the exact same way - no messaging app out there will fix it. Changing the UA on your phone would help in theory by telling the server you have a different phone but since every messaging app relies on the stock one for the sending it will always compress it and tells the server which profile to use. So either way the picture will be compressed. Until some one messes with the stock app it will stay this way.
*yes, I need to change my sig
That's strange. For me the mms pics come out blurry only when i'm using the virtuous rom 8.1. When ever im on cyanogen 6.1.1 or stock I recieve them cristal clear. Crazy.

Ok the thing is I never use to receive blurry text? So what did tmobile all of a sudden change their servers or whatever for me? I doubt that. This only started happening 3 days ago and I have has my phone since before the actual release date. Why would it change now? It doesn't make any sense.

There is an .xml file somewher you can edit and put nexusone into it which solves it apparently.
Or try handcent which I think has an option to change user agent for mms.

I currently use handcent. There isn't any options to fix.
Thanks to someone from the cm 6.1.1 thread I found out the colorized version of cm has a messed up mms.buildprop. So this has nothing to do with tmobile or our providers. I simply flashed the regular cm 6.1.1 and everything is working. Going to contact the dev colorized dev. To see if he can fix that for the public.

G2 Roms with tweeked kernels for overclock

which of the roms has a kernel already in it that allows for overclocking that you have been enjoying and have been stable for you?

Easy. CyanogenMod is arguably the most popular mod/rom out there... HIGHLY developed and supported. I believe it allows Overclocking to 1.5 out of the box. There's a RC2 (Release Candidate) out there for Gingerbread, that's CM7, or there's the latest Stable release 6.1.1, which is Froyo. But honestly, a Release Candidate is ALMOST as good as a stable.
the cyn roms, are they basically stock vanilla roms? sorry there are so many i am confused.
im coming from a mt4g and this G2 phone is slow in comparison (im overclocked to 1.2ghz at stable levels, using icedglacier rom from there)
does any of the roms mess around with call quality? im feeling that the G2 call quality is better than the mt4g.
If you're coming from the MyTouch 4G, I'd recommend you check out Virtuous, as well. It's a Sense ROM, so it's a bit different than stock, but out of the box it's overclocked to 1GHz (highest you can go without needing to change voltage, I believe), and you can flash the advanced kernel if you want full overclock control.
I was previously overclocking to 1.2GHz, but the last 2 versions of Virtuous I've stuck with the stock kernel (that's included in the ROM) and am really pleased with it thus far.
There are other things that can affect your phone's speed, including what's running in the background, what you have syncing, etc.
Sense rom means it has the htc crap on it right? That I do not want.

Yes, Sense is HTC's user interface overlay. Keep in mind that you don't have to use their launcher - I use LauncherPro, but keep Sense for the superior camera, music, and contacts applications. Just a thought, but everyone has their preferences (hence there's so many ROMs. )

Use either CM 6.1.1 Stable (Froyo) or CM 7 Nightly's (Gingerbread) with Pershoot's latest kernel. My G2 at 1.5ghz is as fast if not slightly faster than my friends MT4G at a similar OC level.
i use launcher pro now, im just not a fan of all the overlays they do. thats one thing about my mt4g, it sucks with all the overlay especially the contacts app and the phone app, it seems like it takes twice as long to load up.
CM 7 Nightly's INSTALLING now as i type, hoping for the best! thanks for the info folks, if i like it, ill be sure to donate a beer
edit...wifi does not work on this for some reason...
edit...wifi works, did a reboot...
I am having a problem with getting the google apps on the phone, i cant get to the market, or gmail it just opens and closes immediately, i did see there is a google addon to flash and im pretty certain how to do that from searching, but i cannot find for the life of me where that actual zip file is.
EDIT! HAHA SECONDS AFTER I POSTED ASKING FOR THE FILE I FOUND IT...HAHAHA.

[Q] HTC Sense 3.0 Rom: which runs faster/ less bugged

Ive flashed a few sense 3.0 roms on my phone i ran kingdom rewind, shooter rewind, synergy, etc. main pet-peeve ive had with those are the lag with the rotating home screens. So i opted to a 2.1/3.0 sense (optimized shift) but it has a bug with auto-correct which changes the letter im typing (ex. when i type m it will show a j n change the letter to that) which is really annoying. I wanted to see wat 3.0 roms are other people using/ having success with, and mainly ones that run fast & smooth.
Incredibly RE-engineered3D runs without lag its still labeled beta but very stable Incredible Sensation and Community rom are both good as well. Wait for the new releases on the last two though
Incredible Sensation, Shooter Rewind, and Community are all very nice.

It is good though not a sense 3.0 rom. Its sense 2.1 with sense 3 elements such as lockscreen and weather. A full sense 3.0 rom has the 3d carousel.

I've tried them all and it really does come down to personal preference.
Try one until you decide on one you like. For me it's NilsP Business Gingersense 3.0. No lags, no issues, the guy always makes solid roms.

Synergy RLS1 has been the best rom I've found. My battery life is close to 2 days and its very fast for me.
But I agree, just figure out what you need to move/copy the important things between flashes and try a few until you find something that works/you like.

Synergy is a 2.1 rom with a few apps
pulled from sense 3.0 roms, it doesn't compare to real sense 3.0 roms.

A more decent rom that's fast and not laggy?

I"m seriously annoyed at the fact most of the sense roms or hybrid sense 2.0 + 3, 3.5 whatever, seems super laggy. Maybe it's this phone but for now I have to use this and it just is not acceptable.
Plus my limit number of ROMS due to AOSP not fixing up the voicemail bug with Rogers/Bell voicemail notification not showing up.
So far there is only virtuous G lite that works with VM notification and is AOSP and NOT laggy.
So can someone suggest me a good fast rom, I don't really care about features much, just something fast and doesn't lag 1 second everytime I try to scroll the homescreen or status bar.
I don't know what other people are doing to use those sense roms or maybe they have super patience to deal with the lag.

Pyromod is the fastest rom that I have tried yet. I'm using xboarder's rom now and I am very pleased. CM7 is pretty smooth too but the above two I listed smoke CM7 in my opinion. I gave up on sense, too much flashy stuff that gets old when you just want to be productive. O also look at miui, I was very pleased with that too as far as speed.

[Q] Cm7 or sense

Hi i am a new owner of wilfire buzz.
i want a stable phone! So what do you longtime buzz users think
what is better CM7 or sense
i use/love cm7 it has some cliches from time to time but its the best imo, f you want custom rom use cm7 or some 2.2 sense roms or just root the stock one flash oc kernel and you are done
You are going to get a totally split opinion here (Many love CM, but, some hate the dialer app, the messages app, and its looks, and so on and so forth). Honestly, just use both, and stick with the one that suits YOU.
Depends what you like, cm7 is way way way way more customizible IMO, and also not full of junk i never use so I'm definitely on the cm7 side of the fence, I'm not knocking sense for all you sense lovers out there it is good at what it does and if you use all the things in it its perfect. its just I like to decide what is on my phone and how it looks
But I agree with 3xeno test em all, it took me 3 months to decide to stick with cm7.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I agree wit u both 3xeno and Scratch... test all the ROMs and decide yourself...
For me CM7 is best wen cam to performance and customization, but lacks all the UI stuff that a sense ROM gives... the intelli dialer, camera, sense feel...so on...
Cm7? The thing i love in it is its versatility and capabilities. And ofcourse if you are a dev, you should use it, but sense is eyecandy, ofcourse i use some elements from sense rom, like gallery and camera in my cm7, and uninstalled some default app from cm7 and replaced some with market app, ( like slow adw launcher with launcher pro) and trying to inter breed cm7 and sense.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
There is no good or bad... CM7 uses adw launcher. So download it and test if you like it more than sense.
My Wildfire have sense.
I just like it more than adw. (dont ask me why!)
Agree with Scratch0805 It depends on what you like really, me personally i enjoy CM7 more cause of the speed, higher OS, more things i can customize on...
I got my wildfire last october but i finally decided to flash it just last week
I'm still on 2.2 mainly to test my applications against it, but what I'd miss with CM7 is that when the phone rings I can just flip it over and it'll STFU. That's really helpful when I'm at work. Also, when it rings and I pull it out of my pocket it lowers the volume a bit. But it also has useless junk like Footprints and Friend Stream.
