Hey,
I tried to change my lcd density but i noticed some games were not working anymore, so i changed it back to the standard density of 240.
But now the games still won't work. All i see is a white screen.
I thougt reinstalling the ROM would fix this problem,
but what is the easiest way to install a new rom without having to install all my apps and settings again.?
I don't understand anything of this backup tutorials
atm i'm running a custom ROM, so i have root and s-off.

If you flash the rom without doing a wipe ect all your apps will still be there..
So just boot into recovery and flash the rom....this wont delete your apps.
No point doing a backup this time as things are messed up..
When you have a working rom..boot into recovery and selected back up...this will make a complete back up of your phone....every single thing...from your rom, kernel, apps, widgets, wallpaper...everything....This is a good thing to do if you get into problems as you have done.......then you can just boot into recovery and select restore and everything is back to the way it was.....hope that helps.
Thanks for the info!
So, i flashed a new ROM but the 2 games that didn't work before the flash are still not working
The games are: Abduction! 2 and Gem Miner: Dig Deeper
And i know the LCD Density messed things up, but now i can't revert it
Seems your only solution would be a full wipe followed by flashing a ROM.

Then you have no choice but to wipe/factory reset, wipe dalvik, battery stats all through clockwork and re flash the rom....
Before you do that though you could backup your apps using titanium babckup from the market...leave the broken ones of course

I take it that you have gone into application manager, cleared the apps data, uninstalled and then reinstalled the apps. If not then I would try this first.
Ok... so this is the case:
I have backupped all the apps+data and android settings with titanium backup
(I also made a full nandroid backup to be sure)
Then i did a full wipe and installed a new rom, gem miner was working fine again.
But after restoring the other apps and settings with titanium backup gem miner didn't work anymore.
So.. 1 of the 293 files I backupped and restored causes the games to fail.. But i have no idea what file i should restore to the original one.
I searched for 'lcd' and 'screen' in the list but didn't find anything.
Somebody knows what file i have to restore from the original rom?

Hello,
I tried installing aosp-2.1-jnwhiteh-r5-beta2.zip, after that it worked, but I couldn't import my contacts + the gallery crashes just like on r4, so I decided to go back to r4 again because i couldnt load contacts. But once installed it crashes completely, I get a ****load of messsages that certain applications dont work. Then any other rom I tried on every rom I get crash messages of all applications I get flooded with them.
I made a nandroid backup before, but what could have caused this weird error.
Did you wipe before installing those ROM's, that's what ****'s up these kind of things most of the time. And you're device isn't bricked.
Yeah wiped it, it is fixed now, restored a nandroid backup, but I always wipping it.

when say going from stock 2.2 to cm 6.1.1? What id like is to say, take a list of my currently installed apps on the froyo, or from a backup, and make a list of them to be installed, with the accounts and what not set up. or, mount a backup so i can look at the apps i have installed and their passwords.

You can use titanium to install apps from other android versions? Because with the backup that comes with cwm, i tried restoring just the data after going to cm 6.1.1 and i got a weird little half brick device until i manually booted into recovery and reinstalled the rooted stock back up i made. now i wanna go back to cm 6.1.1 but i dont feel like writing a bunch of stuff down.

Works for me when I say restore back a 6.1.1 after running some 2.3. Usually I'm restoring (apps + data) stuff like setCPU_donate and other 3rd party apps and settings. Couldn't hurt but I'll tell you, messing with restoring anything other than a full rom backup in CWM makes me a bit nervous. Luckily there are alot of things to do what you're asking.
Yeah it made me nervous too after i did it. I didnt figure that user data itself would cause a perma brick though. But i was almost completely sure it wouldnt work at the time. And now i am completely sure. Yeah i downloaded titanium back up, and i backed up the apps i wanted to save the account info for, so we'll see what happens after cm gets done doin its thing.
Yes, Titanium Backup will backup not only the app, but also the user data as well - which is *way* handy.
It'll also backup system apps, so you do need to kinda watch what you're restoring (the free version of Titanium Backup makes you manually confirm every single app you restore, so it's a bit harder to screw up). It's a pretty sweet app, highly recommended.
Installing/restoring between versions is no problem.
yeah, it is pretty handy. Except when it came to swype.
Quick Q for Titanium. When I do a batch operation, it still asks me if I want to install the apk and then another if i want to open it or hit done. Is there a way to bypass those screens?

Only if you buy the Pro version or whatever. It's not too expensive. I actually kinda like those screens, as it gives me a double-check so I don't install something I didn't want to.
I installed myn's rom and love it! In doing so I wanted to play around since this is my first ROM I have installed. I installed a transparent titlebar, battery mod, and gingerbread menus from his list of optional items.
I then found f(red)'s gingerbread experience modifications that are listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866158
Now i am kinda stuck.. Now in the menus i have white buttons with white text in them.. so in short, i cant see anything
How can i correct this? Can i somehow load Myn's themeing back and then lay what i want on top of it to get what i want? I just dont want to have to reload the rom and wipe my phone.. it is just a pain in the butt to do so.
so i am not thinking... right now i am doing a clockwork backup and will use ROM manager to apply the same rom on top of itself. Then will apply the gingerbread experience items one by one afterwards.
Did you do any backups before you started appliying mods? Best to do a restore then boot into recovery and flash the mod. if you flash over too much it tends to get like too many layers paint on a wall. Not sure if this help at all but ill look into it a bit more for you

That would have been too smart
Fortunately i have gotten my themeing back by just reapplying the rom but i just lost root it seems. I cannot use setcpu, wifi tethering, nor titanium backup.. but i have no clue why.
It is like i lost root. How can i get this back?
Do you have the SuperUser icon? Try clearing its cache. Did you try to reinstall SetCPU, does it pop up the permissions box?
i downloaded and installed an app called root checker which verified that i somehow did not have root anymore... crazy.
I just did a full wipe (cache and all) and reloaded the ROM and all is well again. no clue why it did this or how... what can i say.. it is what it is I guess.
I've got the eagle's blood ROM running now and am quite happy. I'm wondering what happens if I won't to try an other ROM. Will I loose all applications and settings? Only applications?
Should I do a full back up before flashing and a full recovery after? What is stirred in a back up? Settings. Or just apps?
Thanks for the run down
if you do a full back up its like taking a snap shot of everything you have the way you have it. So feel free to try any rom out there. I currently have two backups 1. is my current rom that I'm on right now and the other is stock. If you don't have it Id also suggest getting titianum back up and pay for it. It also takes a snap shot as well if you pay for it then it will keep all your settings and you can do a batch restore and restore all at once....

I like to keep a number of backups around: Stock, StockDebloated, [MyCurrentRom Without any modifications], [MyCurrentRom with modifications], [OtherRomILikeToUse]
It takes up space and it takes time and patience to build up a library of backups but it makes flashing between different ROMs very easy and it lets me always be able to change things up at the drop of a hat.

1.) Yes! Full backup meaning Nandroid backup with CWR or Rom Manager, the later is an app from the creator of CWR so works while booted and reboots back to android automatically for you, less intervention by you. This is a fail safe so if you dont like new rom restore and its like you never left.
2.) If you switch to a different ROM, meaning not the update of the one you are currently running then you DO NOT full restore. Actually you NEVER full restore unless you are doing #1.) above. You only want to restore your apps with data and maybe some of your settings. Restored settings can sometimes cause problems as different ROMs can have things in different places from where the old settings came.
As mentioned titanium PRO/donate version is well worth it. It will allow you to reinstall your apps and data for those apps i.e. passwords, names, personal info. It does so by color coding what is (potentially) safe to reinstall and shows what not should be reinstalled i.e. red items or system files from the previous rom(s). The difference from that and a data restore with CWR is titanium lets you select/deselect what you want to restore.
So let me see if I understand this.
If I wan't to change ROMs - but keep my applications and as many settings as possible - I should use Titanium Backup.
Any CWM back up will simply take a snapshot of the current ROM with Applications and would be no use in restoring applications only to a New ROM.

You want to do a back up of rom regardless so if something goes wrong you can flash back to the it. You use titanium to back up all your apps and data so when you boot into your newly flashed rom you can have titanium restore all your apps and data.
Hello,
I should mention I'm running the dark_hd CM9 rom, rooted S-OFF.
So earlier today I was in the bootloader and accidently hit Clear Storage. It brought up a black screen with an image of an open box and then my phone rebooted normally.. fat fingered it somehow. Oops.
Upon loading the OS it immediately asked me for my Google info and I knew something was wrong. All of my apps icons are there on the launcher screen, however none of them are installed except for the basic apps. Also, when I tried to install Titatium Backup again, it says 'Unfortunately, .. has stopped'. I tried to reinstall a few more apps and each one says 'Unfortunately...has stopped". Before I restored, I wanted to see if I could get back some of my data and make a fresh Titanium backup of it all.
I have a few apps like a a logbook program and my Heytell conversations that I would like to see if the data is still there before I do a full restore or a wipe. Is there any way I can fix this "Unfortunately" error? Also, if I do a restore, will my app data be saved or will it revert back to the info that was there when I did the backup? Thanks.

So you hit factory reset from the hboot menu? You could check /data/data and see if the settings for your apps are still there, but i doubt it. You should also check /data/app and see if the apps apk is still there. If it is there, delete it and then try reinstalling it again. If you do a backup, it will restore the data that was backed up. You can do an advanced restore and restore everything except data.

Did you have any apps moved to sdcard? As it almost sounds like that could be the case if some of the data for the phone like the launcher homescreen data is still intact but the apps were on the sdcard which would be part of storage.

I'm sorry it was CM9. Fixed. I had CM10 on the brain as I was getting read to flash the Pons CM10 ROM. I didn't have any luck recovering any of the data so I just wiped it and flashed a new rom. I was able to run Titanium and recovery the data but I still lost some since my last backup. Thanks anyways.
