I keep finding links to rooted versions but not an official RUU. Gotta take phone to sprint because of data issues and need to go back to stock.

Annoying isn't it? I don't know why people keep describing rooted ROMs as RUUs, all it does is clutter the search results.
I had to randomly click on a bunch of stuff in Chinese until I found it so I figured I would create a mirror for it.

thank you sir. I was getting frustrated because nothing was what i wanted.
This is useful for getting my noob friends updated. Thanks.

How do you unroot? I'm going to be returning this phone (Sprint got me angry for certain reasons). How do I unroot so that I can return it and not have it seen as out of warranty

It's that easy? If so, thank you very much.
Just be careful which one you flash. If you flash a rom that closes the ability to root you are screwed if you ever want to go back. Back a page or two someone posted the original Ruu from sprint which has the shipping EVO rom. Thats what you need to use to go back to stock and don't accept updates if you want to preserve your future root.

For now yes, that may not always be the case. In the event some poor soul searches the forum like a good noob and sees that its not a big deal, flashes a Sprint RUU that breaks root and ends up screwed.
Well I'm returning the phone so future root's isn't a concern but thank you!
Where did you find the Stock ROM? I can't find one. All I can find is the RUU. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions but I am new to this.

No I don't believe I did. Can you help me out. Where would I find that update?

+1. People need to understand what they're doing before jumping right in.
OP- Now you'll have to go back to the nandroid backup that you hopefully did before flashing the ROM, unroot, upgrade the radio, and then re-root. You've created some extra, unnecessary work on your own part, but it will at least get you some more familiarity with these tasks.
Directions can be found with a quick search of the forum.

You really really really REALLY have to do your reading/research before making any changes to your phone's OS. If you would've read the very FIRST post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737400, you would not have missed the big red letters that state you MUST have the new radio or you will have issues with your phone and instructions on how to install it right below.
Now I assume you have to downgrade to 2.1, un-root, install the radio, re-root and then install 2.2 ROM. Can anybody confirm?
Good luck.
Thread moved to General.
Need to downgrade latest, 2.3.3 back to 2.2. anyone got anything for me?
There are countless threads on this subject in the Q&A forum. Please remember the forum rules before posting in the development board.
Thank you.

depends on what he's wanting to do..if he's rooted trying to go stock or keep froyo with root, also, if he's stock GB and wants to go back to froyo, won't happen, hBoot versions different and will pop up with a message saying the update is too new or something like that.
so a little info on his part will help us out by helping him out!

Sorry, just so frustrated getting out of the latest. 2.3.3 / 4.24.651.1 was a new device and came preinstalled and updated. Been trying again today unsuccessfully, I feel so out of place with the only one in here unrooted?? LOL
Anyhows was really looking into on just delparting it(networkingskills) starting to take over my thoughts. Hell with it, delpart it n ,get dos boot disk made from win2000 to recreate Rom from cmd prompts?
Is there such a wipe? Mean just wipe all clean without it going back to recovery to reboot from?

Whats the good news? They dont mention the EVO4G in there, and they wont unlock it either. Its almost to its EOL, they want us to buy new phones so why unlock it?
My 2¢
if you have another sprint phone.....
Call sprint, swap esn to other phone.
Sell yours on craigslist.
Buy another one on craigslist that's rooted (call and swap esn to phone to make sure it works)
Go home, install whatever you want.

dont have a nanoid backup for old roms i do
I have had success getting my Vs985 rooted and recovery backed up. Also I seem to have blocked OTAs pretty successfully. I am feeling confident and want to try downloading and extracting my OTA zip from verizon. I have seen the guides and haven't started following one because I'm cautious. First question: should i even do this? Is there already a latest OTA available from a developer on here for my model/VARIANT?
Secondly, What is the best way to get my OTAs back? Do i need to make it back to the unrooted 12B or whatever firmware i was on? Does the OTA download automatically when the phone boots first time on stock?
Appreciate any help, I know how to search xda so dont worry about gathering a bunch of links for me (which is not to say i would be unappreciative of that effort). You could just use xda usernames to point me to ppl's threads/methods. Thanks again!

You are using stock firmware, but are rooted? That's what I'm understanding. You haven't installed custom ROMs or anything else?
If not, from my understanding, you can just download the file via the section in your phone and do a straight-up update. This will remove root.
However, because I'm paranoid, I would do a full unroot beforehand to ensure that you cannot mess it up.
Also, OTAs download automatically over WiFi depending on when the phone checks, which for LG is often. You can go into the hidden menu of the phone and disable this.

Ok I will probably go with what you would do, unroot first. Maybe this weekend if I'm not working sometime.

Howdy, I'm currently playing with bigsupersquid's unofficial cyanogenmod 13.1 rom for the Virgin Mobile variant of this phone. Everything on it works great except for the wifi which seems not to activate at all - also preventing me from using my tethering. I was forwarded to update the firmware for this device to Lollipop, but outside of the "A5-DUG" variant, I seem to be having trouble finding it. Can anyone provide me the right directions or place to start for this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

yer lucky, I don't often browse the regular forum, just the threads I've already posted in.
however, I obviously need to add this link to the OP for cm13 (and maybe cm12 as well.)
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-816-virgin-mobile/news/
straight from the horse's mouth (htc,) that link.
getting it installed without M$ windows is challenging but can be done, requires some searching. with window$ it's relatively painless after downloading the 2+GB file and installing drivers and such.
I know some people are picky about questions in dev threads but I've always welcomed discussion there, so feel free to ask anything else in the ROM threads.

I'm guessing that this is the process to use a RUU and revert back to stock to get the OTA update? I went through a huge debacle trying to find just this and managed to get it to work with a stroke of luck. I'm actually using your Cyanogenmod 13.1 without much issues. I'll leave a bug report in your thread. Thanks again!

Here, for everyone having firmware issues on chl, I spent all day uploading the zip RUU.
Make sure your phone is charged first. Very bad juju for it to die during firmware flashes.
I'm not sure if it needs stock recovery installed to use it or not. May not install without it and that'd be a hassle. Follow the instructions linked in my cm13 first post for installing stock recovery if you're wanting to play it safe.
Definitely
fastboot oem lock
before putting the 0P9CIMG.zip on external SD and rebooting into HBOOT. Or it won't flash.
Then remove the sd card after it is finally done. It'll take a few reboots to finish.
