[Q] Rooting and Flashing Cellular South HTC Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried using Unrevoked, apparently I'm missing something. Downloaded ROM Manager and now I'm unable to use it because I get an error about unable to download from server. [Connection is fine, tried over wifi for good measure, same deal].
Anyone mind giving me a hand here?

Just boot into the recovery. Put your phone off. Hold volume down + power button. Then select recovery. You don't need rom manager to flash.

Right, I do, but whenever I try installing the ROM I get an error and it aborts. Is there some way for me to dump the error log and post it here?

you have to make sure you are using the correct rom. I also have a htc desire CDMA from Cellular south and accidentally put a GSM rom on it and bricked it. Got a new one and I am waiting for the release of the 2.2 froyo which should be sometime late Jan. early Feb. for us. make sure you are using a good CDMA rom and it works with Cellular south. They are a pain.

BTW I used unrevoked on my desire twice now and it worked perfectly

Just curious on what roms go with cellularsouth. Is there any modifications that need to done to it to get stuff like MMS working?

Cyanogen - 3G Internet Down?

Hi guys.
I had my first Evo stolen a few days ago and just got the replacement yesterday. I was able to root using Simpleroot, and setup recovery. In order to get the phone operational on Sprint, I had to type in ##494711# and enter my phone number and change another setting in that same menu. The internet (3g) works on a "stock" rom I downloaded, however it does not work on Cyanogen 7/22 build.
Wifi and everything else runs perfect, no problems besides this. Anyone know a way to fix this? I tried to search the thread but couldn't find anything.
Try re flashing the ROM i got the same rom and my 3G works perfect make sure you flash the new radio and not just the rom you need the rom plus frf91
2.05.00.06.10 is the radio you need. Your software should be 1.47.651.1 also.

Telstra Desire 2.2 - can't access Data Usage.

Hi,
today I rooted my Desire using unrevoked3 and installed the official "HTC Froyo ROM" by nickiberli
Everything seems to work fine. Camera works. WiFi works. HSDPA works. Flash is great.
But I can't seem to access my data usage from Telstra. Until I can, I'm not sure whether my access to 'm.bigpond.com' is unmetered or not. I only have 200MB a month, so this is a major problem.
Would I need to flash to the T-Mod to fix it?
Thanks.
Try telastra mod. You should be able to use foxtel too.

Trying as I type this. My phone continuously keeps rebooting. Am I doing something wrong?

WIFI wont work on Desire....says turning on then....error.

rooted mine my bros and bros girlfriends desires...
all went fine, no problems.
then my bros girlfriends started doing this thing and would'nt connect to wifi...it says turning on then error.
i thought ok, its an old rom version updated to the latest along with the latest radio 5.20 (or whatever it is ) and still the same....
ok...must be the rom...tried opendesire, which is working perfect on my phone and its still not working....
so to shortlist the problem is when i try connect to wifi it says turning on...then error...and wont even turn on...
definately not the rom.
definitely not the radio.
anyone got any ideas?
i tried to flash back to stock RUU but it would not let me "update" it with an HTC ruu a europe RUU and even a TMO UK ruu....
just kept saying cant update....
so anyone got any suggestions?
thanks!!
The same problem with me. I flash several ROMs, but no change. I think it's hardware fault.
Full wipe before flashing new roms? Have you tried a FroYo sense rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Now i use office 2.2 ROM, the same problem.
ye wiped and everything.
i cant even flash a RUU package which is gay!!
ill try a few other things and see if i can get it to work....and then maybe just send it back for repair or something.
I seem to have the same issue did anyone have any luck?
Just to give more background to me issue:
I've come up against a weird bug\issue\failure.
I've been running Leedriod ROM for a while with very very few issues. I upgraded to 2.0c over the weekend & everything was working fine.
This morning however neither my wifi or bluetooth is work.
Wifi tries to start but I simply get "Error" in Setting-->Wirless & Network-->Wi-Fi
My bluetooth has also stop working.
I'm not sure if this is related to the Leedroid ROM or potentially a hardware failure...
I have gone back to 1.9 (last know good backup) & I've done a complete fresh wipe & install of 2.0c. None of which I have had any luck with. I've also trawled the web and forums but nothing similar is popping up....
Any help or advice much appreciated...

Sorry, mate...somewhere in my brain I thought I have replied to you. I tried the USB Brick Fix you suggested but no luck....
I'm beginning to think it's a hardware fail....
Normally means you didn't update with the gold card in the phone - you need this for ALL updates on previously branded phones...
What exactly is a USB brick? Does it brick the phone or just stop the USB from being able to update the phone?

Hey, I have much the same issue, I've tried a whole lot of ROMs and none of them seem to make the wifi work.
As soon as I revert back to the original installation it's working as expected, but whenever the phone is flashed (with the updated radio too), wifi stops.
As far as I can tell, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G are fine, but wifi tries to connect states that it's "Acquiring IP Address" and then disconnects and starts the cycle again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Do you use the gold card when updating?

Hey, no worries!
Your symptoms definitely suggest your phone is "usb-bricked". What method did you try?
This is the best (and easiest): http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
I followed it myself with success some time ago.
If your phone is no longer rooted, you will need to root it. Else start with step 2.

I've never used my gold card when updating my branded Vodafone Desire.
I only used the gold card for initially rooting my Desire!

Sometimes when a update/flash goes wrong the Desire going in to a low level debugging mode, which we refer to as a "usb-bricked Desire".
You will observe the following symptoms:
* FM Radio Malfunction.
* Bluetooth Malfunction.
* Charging doesn't start immediately.
* Radio Malfunction.
* SD Card Malfunction.
* Unable to connect your phone using USB when booted into Android.
* Unable to connect your phone using USB in Custom/Pushed Recovery.
...other than this, the phone will work as expected.
So the WiFi problem is something different. I was directing my reply directly at IEArmand because we were chatting on a different thread.

Thanks for the info, was just curious as my Desire, although now fully updated, didn't seem to like the latest RRU update file and couldn't be connected via USB. It's weird as disk mode and sync still work completely fine and it updated fine via OTA.

Woke up this morning and found my Wifi and Bluetooth functions have returned!! I did not try anything last night so I'm at a loss to know what has fixed it.Functions did not return right after USB Brick fix but who knows...
Not much help to folk with this issue I'm afraid..

Hey, I rooted my phone using the Unrevoked method, I didn't think I needed a Gold Card to complete this.
Maybe I read this incorrectly. Can I just repeat the process with the GC?
And...does the GC help with Rooting or Flashing?
Thanks.
That's rooting, you don't need a gold card for that. If you want to flash a generic ROM onto your branded Desire you'll need a gold card. If you want to flash a custom ROM, you just need to use a custom recovery (which you'll have thanks to unrEVOked)
As for JustinTrouble not needing one, I'm guessing it's just Orange users having issues then as most people need the gold card to stop the WiFi issue rearing its head

4th rom with no data. Please help

ok so im in okinawa japan on softbank with the htc one x. last week i saw there was a new base the roms were being built which had android 4.0.4 Long story short everysince i tried the first 4.0.4 rom (renovate) i have not been able to get data working unless i nandroided back to my coredroid setup. i have done everything i could think of with the apn. delete all and start fresh, tried editing the one that came with a fresh boot (it never worked on my hox or wifes gnex) and ive went into *#*#4636#*#* and chose my band and clicked enable data. also the mobile network toggle has been toggled many times trying to wake it up lol. anybody got anything? please help, any is greatly appreciated

and a bump. still have the problem on the newest renovate rom. rolled back to leedroid for now. bummed
go to dev tools after you set up your apn and hit 'crash system server' if that doesn't work. use titanium and restore apn's.

Try apn backup from the market first. If data works on our Rom then backup those apn configurations with that app then restore it on your new Rom.

im going to flash renovate and try the crash system trick. thats the only one i havent tried, as ive never heard of it. but, as far as backing up apn's, several apps including the new ics compatible tweakker app, say the device isnt supported to restore apns. fml. i really want to try these newer roms. i hope the trick works.
hey do you have an apk of dev tools? i just looked through my backups and i dont have that app

well i found the current dev tools apk and crashed system server on a fresh install of aokp. setup the default apn's and also the set i input manually to my roms. neither worked. apn backup and restore does not work. says this version of android doesnt allow the use of 3rd party apps to manipulate apns. what else guys? im stumped and really want my roms to stay current and im slowly and surely getting left behind
still no luck with 4.0.4
just a bump here. nobody still have any clue why my carrier isnt working with android 4.0.4? ive tried everything listed here. I know how to setup apns properly. theres just something different about the 4.0.4 roms, sense or aosp based, that doesnt let me connect to data.
so... find the ruu for vietnam. download it. go fastboot oem lock and run ruu. this will flash your phone completely stock as if it came from the factory. good luck! if you get confused or lost, use google search...
i will definitely give that a try kemmo. if the latest ruu work itll have me scratching my head as to why custom 4.0.4 roms wont work lol.

Look at this legitness, you know I dont follow the One X cause its all about the GS3.....What version of android does it work on, the 4G? Has anybody else had success with 4g on the 4.0.4 Roms that your not having? Where are these ROMS based out off, international versions or US?

[Q] WiFi Not Working after Unlock and Root

I have a PrimoC phone that I unlocked and rooted then I installed TWRP and made a backup. I did not bother connecting to WiFi before doing this, but the phone was showing that it wwas receiving signal from VM. After installing TWRP with Hasoon2000's AIO and making a backup, I went to Settings so I could connect to WiFi and download MSL reader. WiFi is on, but the phone can't find any networks and it is no longer connecting to VM.
Any ideas what's wrong?
Phone is Primo C, CDMA
flash boot. img in bootloader via cmd...
Sent from my HTC One V
Where can I get that for the stock ROM? I've flashed the boot.img of custom ROMs on other phones, but not stock.
Open up the ROM zip from a stock ROM and pull out the boot.IMG. I'm sure there's some rooted stock ROMs posted in your dev section. Or from a nandroid backup from a stock ROM, if you have one.

So would this work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754036
or the Sprint one here?
http://www.filefactory.com/f/0eafb9c43276c308/
Alright, I flashed the boot.img, but it didn't make a difference. Still no WiFi or connection to VM.
Flashed boot.img a couple of times and rebooted a couple of times. No WiFi or service. What can I do?
Hi, maybe your device has lost It's IMEI. Would you mind posting the first 4 numbers of your imei found in about phone? Thanks.
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
I don't see an IMEI anywhere... Do you mean IMSI? If so, first 4 digits are 3100
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I ported my number to P+, so I don't have a working phone until I get this to work. I flashed another one of these HTC One Vs last weekend without this problem, so I'm not sure how I ran into it this time...
I recommend using SickKernel for Sense roms. Did you flash a kernel through fastboot yet? And did you flash any module files?
No I didn't flash a kernel through fastboot, nor did I on another HTC One V that worked fine last weekend.
I unlocked the phone with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964
rooted with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751004
Then I installed TWRP and perm rooted by following Hassoon2000's guide and while using his AIO.
This is the same process I followed last week and it worked fine then. The only difference I can think of this time was I didn't even attempt to connect to WiFi before starting this process.
Thanks for the help.
Someone on another forum gave me a .zip called "Jmz-PrimoC-kernel-ICS-20120820". I flashed the boot.img from it and now the phone boots to the VM loading screen and then turns off and continuously reboots and the process repeats.
EDIT: I flashed the .zip and still have the same problem. I'm wiping the cache, dalvick cache, and doing a factory reset and then restoring a backup.
EDIT 2: Restored the backup, it loaded up the phone normally without the reboot this time. I unlocked the phone and a second later it powered off again and now it's rebooting continuously, but it makes it to the normal screen now before doing so.
Really need a phone for work guys. Please help me.
Alright, I did this on a second phone I got for my wife to try and figure out where I went. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted by following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964
WiFi worked after that and VM bars were showing up.
I then booted into Bootloader and opened Hasoon2000's HTC One V AIO Kit. I clicked on TWRP CDMA 2.1.0 and then clicked 'Flash Recovery'. The recovery flashed successfully.
I then made a backup successfully and rebooted. When I rebooted, I was getting 'No Service' and my WiFi doesn't work either.
I may have actually had WiFi and service after I flashed TWRP, but before I made the backup. I think I did, but I'm not sure. Anyways, all that is above is everything I have done with this phone since taking it out of the box. No idea what's wrong.
Please help.
EDIT: When I scan for WiFi on the 2nd phone, I am now finding my network, but strength is always poor or fair and it won't connect.
If the imei really is lost, you will not have a chance but taking it to the HTC service try flashing cwm instead of twrp, maybe that changes something
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
How would I know if the IMEI is lost? I just don't see anywhere it would be in the settings under about phone. Can I just flash CWM over TWRP?
I followed this:
http://www.androidauthority.com/one-v-clockworkmod-recovery-6-0-1-2-custom-recovery-115527/
and flashed CWM.
Still no WiFi or service. I don't need service with this phone, but I do need WiFi.
EDIT:
OK, so I am getting WiFi on the 2nd phone, but it's weak. When I'm right next to my router only the circle fills up on the meter and occasionally one bar will with it. Still no service though.
Hi, well I do not know the exact noun for this, but you can see it at settings, about phone, phone-identity. Sort for my bad English sometimes, I'm from Germany
Sent from my awesome HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
Under phone identity I only see Phone Name, Model Number, Device Serial Number, MEID, MEID Decimal, Phone Number, and IMSI. No IMEI. I checked a friend's working HTC One V he got on the CM sale too and he doesn't have an IMEI under phone identity and his phone works fine.
Also, I am now getting WiFi on the 2nd phone, but it's weak. When I'm right next to my router only the circle fills up on the meter and occasionally one bar will with it. Still no service though. When I go up to my room where another HTC One V running AOKP says ~35% signal, this phone drops.
Thanks for helping me.
You do have the back cover on right? Did you root both phones with Hasoons program?
Sent from my HTC One V using xda app-developers app
Strange. I've set the language of my phone to english for testing, and I'm getting this (1st screenshot).
Instead of using About Phone, you could try opening the dialpad and dialing *#06# (star pound zero six pound). Now a text box like in my 2nd screenshot should pop up. Please only tell me the first four digits, because an IMEI is unique and private.
EDIT: zmk76 is right, in the back cover is the antenna built-in, so signal drop without the back cover is normal (I have really heavy signal drops without the back cover)
