Can anyone direct me to a site that gives some instruction on how the keyboard works. I would basically like to know how to switch to other symbols (like numbers etc) without having to hold down one key while pressing another.
Thanks
C
You don't have to hold down the button. Just press 'Fn' once and then press the other character you're after. Alternatively if you press 'Fn' twice it locks on, pressing it twice again returns to normal letters etc.
Hi,
Has anyone managed to find a way to get the i780 to be able to select text without touching the screen?
I cant hold my shift key and scrub my optical DPAD and select text, and the only way i can select text is by tapping on the screen which is highly infuriating!
What do you guys do?

Yes. Heres the trick.
while in the texting window,
1. turn ON 780 cursor
2. double press the UP arrow key on the keyboard (the uppercase key)
3. numeric keypad now controls the cursor as 780curson is on, press the 4 and 6 keys and observe that the test is being selected
How can I decrease the "hold down" time for alternate symbols on the HTC stock kb?
Using the stock HTC qwerty keyboard called "Touch Input", when you want to type the "1" key, you have to hold down the "q" key. For this post, Im calling all the numbers and symbols that aren't the primary letter on the SIP keyboard, the alternate symbol for that key...
What I'm trying to figure out, is how I can reduce the length of time I have to hold down the key for the "alternate" key to be typed... Right now its probably 1 sec, and I would like to reduce that time to maybe 300ms or something.
So basically what can I change so I can type a "1" faster using the Touch Input SIP?
(and btw, I know that FingerKeyboard2 has this as a setting but Im trying to use the stock KB for other reasons.) THanks!
Soooo I had to call tmobile warranty. My touch on the my screen no longer works. But what I find crazy is that for this to be a phone that is not just ALL touch im starting to wonder why even have a keyboard or am i just dumb? I cannot press send on a text if i want to send a message. I cannot even save a number 2 my contacts. With out the touch screen am I just SOL till my new phone comes in the mail? I can make phone calls my opening up the keyboard and using the arrow keys. But the limitations with this phone and no touch screen are ridiculous.
Just wondering am I not able to do NOTHING while my touch screen is out? If anything I want to send text messages and I cannot even do that. Any help? PLEASE ASAP THANKS! CED

in your inbox for mms/text, press and hold H for a list of keyboard shortcuts. Press OK to get out of that list. press and hold key for desired shortcut. They are listed below:
H - List Shortcuts
A - Reply All
R - Reply
K- Mark Read/Unread
F - Flag
M - Move
O - Forward
D - Delete
L - Download Message
S - Send/Receive
But unfortunately, I can't figure out how to actually get the message to send once creating and typing it. Maybe you will have better luck.
Edit: actually you can use front facing buttonto get to start menu then use arrokeys and enter to navigate to (start->settings->personal->buttons), then you can set your ppt button or other button to left softkey and send that way... to get to set the button, use down arrow to get to the button you want, then right arrow once to highlight the "assign a program:" field, hit enter to expand that field, then scroll up or down with arrows to get to the <left softkey> (its at/near the top of the list), then hit enter and "OK" your way out of it. I'm assuming the version of the phone you have has the OK shortcut. You may need to soft reset afterwards, but should be good to go at that point.

The shortcuts are the same for his device, but you may have forgotten that the TMo version is unique in that it has no PTT button, no OK button (the enter key works fine to get rid of the shortcut box, however), and the Start button is actually a Home button. you could install tarkim's key remapper and set a hard key to the left soft button, but I haven't used this in a while and it may require some touch input.
Also, I use ZoomBarPlus which makes the zoombar function as a d-pad with up/down, action, and back keys. If you follow the instructions on the thread, you can omit the inbox from the default action and have ZoomBar work with it.
If these don't do it for you, then just wait it out for a couple of days. TMo sends these replacements out very quickly.
Thanks a lot !! worked like charm !!
Im from India , a place where TP2 is not released ( Can you believe that ?? ) , Hence no service for it..
So checking out some new mobiles or will wait for Q1 of 2011 ..
I LOVE the samsung keyboard with the full number row AND the "sub characters" for every key. its SO wonderful.
I have a HUGE problem though. 50-60% of the time it ALWAYS gets the WRONG sub character. you see I want "ONLY" the sub character that is actually listed on the key itself.
but when you press and hold a key it presents you with MULTIPLE options and since I tend to be moving toward my next key many if not most times it select one of the "other" sub keys and not the one (the one on the key) that I wanted.
Usually the OTHER sub character is the capital version of the letter sometimes there is one or two "other" characters.
SO I will press and hold g to get a / and instead end up with a stinking G or press hold f to get $ and get a stinking F
anyway to MOD the keyboard to flat out REMOVE all these extra's so pressing and holding ONLY gets me ONE character the one sub character listed for that key and nothing else ?
There is a mod to shorten the long press delay. I know it doesn't eliminate the other options. But perhaps letting you select the key you want faster will help.
