[SOLVED] New HTC Hub Live tile feature - Maybe not - Windows Phone 7 General

Pocketnow reported that an update to the HTC Hub tile brings Live tile functionality by showing weather conditions and such. Who here is seeing that on their Hub tile? I'm not. I tried every way to make it show but it won't.
It might be a case of misinformation at Pocketnow.

no it isn't. i have it working fine on my HTC 7 Trophy in Australia. Have you checked the settings within your HTC Hub after updating?

Yeah, tried everything. Tried using auto location and manual location. Tried with WiFi and data. No luck. Maybe it isn't available here in the states yet since HTC is a foreign company.

does it work within HTC hub (not the live tile, but the app itself). If so, just leave the tile pinned and it should refresh itself sometime throughout the day.

Confirmed
I have an HD7 on TMO US and got this update yesterdy and the tile is showing live weather info now.

+1. I'm in SoCal too, too.

7ya the new update for hte HTC hub is showing info on the tile.... cool...

Mine also shows the weather and such on the live tile. Now if they can get the flip clock on there I will be set!

+1 for Norway. Even shows locations not available through the location search

no problems for me. HTC hub is still to slow to open though, too much animation, not enough substance. Sticking with weatherbug for weather.

The new HTC live tile looks so nice I've promoted it to the top of my start screen

Mine isn't showing the live tile either...
I have a HD7 in america, and I have tired uninstalling the htc hub and still no live tile.. I don't get it.

mine too took some time for the live tile to get updated.
I had done one restart also in between and it helped. (Not sure if it was the time frame I waited or the restart which helped)

Works for me in the UK. Mine didn't show at first, but go into the settings from the HTC Hub and instead of using 'My Location', try setting that to a particular location. If you select 'My Location', don't forget to make sure that Location is enabled in your main phone's settings.

I ended up doing a hard reset and it works fine now... Seems that live tiles just die out for some reason over time...
Hopefully that will be fixed in an update.

i've received the update yesterday or so, don't really remember, could also be today, because i just press update all and forget about it.
Then when i came along this topic I was like "huh" so checked my phone to have a look but no live tile.
Then i entered the HTC hub, checked the settings if there was something like update live tile or something, but there was nothing.
When I returnd to the home screen the htc tile changed and it showed the weather
pretty nice

I suppose either HTC or MS will need to work on the liveness of the HTC Hub tile. It has been much longer than 24 hours straight since powering on my HD7 and the HTC Hub still shows nothing but the common image.

Mine doesn't do it all the time either.
Just checked it, still says Hebron, TX where I was on Christmas.
I have it set to update every hour, it just rarely does.
Even after a phone reboot, it won't update unless I open it, then about 30 seconds it updates the tile.
Otherwise, its sporadic. When I first got the update it seemed like it was working fine.
Now, it doesn't seem to work at all.

Sweeet! I now have a live Hub tile!

Weather widget and current location

Hi,
My weather widget shows my country as current location and not my town. Does anyone know how this current location thing exaclty work and how can I correct my problem. I can add my city manualy without any problems at all. Location tracking is turned on. But this damn widget still shows country and not the town I know that I can remove widget and add it again and select my town, but I want dynamic thing (current location). Tried weatherbug and it detects my location without any problems. Help and thanks.
My advice.. dont bother with the weather widget, all it does is tell you what you can find out by looking out the window.

I had the same problem here (Ireland). It just listed my country as the current location. I decided to try a different weather app called snow storm. BUT... After I tried out this app I realised (coincidence?) that my current location started working in the standard weather app!!! It shows the area Im in now (or closest big town, usually correct within 2km). Im in Dublin and it shows all the different regions of the city as I drive around I don't know what caused it to suddenly work but it does now. When it started working it was on and off for a day to two. If I refreshed the weatehr sometimes it would jump back to Ireland(current) and if I refreshed again 2 or 3 times it would jump to Stillorgan(current). i.e. the local area. Now it does not jump to country at all and always lists the current area. No idea how it started working though. no updates etc. try refreshing the weather 4 or 5 times in a row and see if it still says your country and not your town? Actually, my mobile operator (O2) started selling the phone around about the time it started working?! maybe its linked to that?
I tried to install application you've mentioned, tried to refresh 6 times weather app - no change at all Tried to delete location and weather data - still no change It would be very interesting to know how this location thing deas exactly work at all. Because and world clock app shows my location as Lithuania and not my town which is capital of Lithuania:/ And one more thing - Vilnius is not mentioned in available timezones list when Dublin is there. Maybe this all thing is because of that?
That is strange. I would expect Vilnius to be there. I would expect the capital city of all EU countries to be there. I can only think it must somehow be network related. The phone naturally gets this location information from your network somehow. If the network do not provide this information to the phone in a certain way maybe it cannot deduce your location? the fact that mine works now and DID NOT work for 3 weeks when I first got the phone (I even have a post about this) I think it must be network. I changed nothing else with the phone and its perfect now. Does your network sell the HTC Desire? Do they plan to sell it? I think when they do, your location will start working.
Problem is that one guy I know has HTC legend and he is in the same network I am and his legend shows Vilnius without any single problem:/ It still would be very interesting to know how the phone detects location - does it use some kind of cell info, does it use internet. Because if I want location services to work I must turn on mobile network. And when location services are turned off my current location is Minsk I think because it is in the same time zone as I am and because it is in the database. Can you look at your phone's timezones? Are you able to see Vilnius in there?
I wish too the weather widget could give a forecast. Looks great but not exactly practical. Shame.
I had exactly the same problem as you, the weather app showed my country and not the town was in. But somehow it managed to jump to the city (in Sweden) I was currently staying in, but now when I´m 300km away it still shows the same town.
I don't think there´s anything wrong with the network because the widget called Latitude shows updates very frequently and tells me where I am even in very small towns.
I think it has to do with
Menu -> Settings -> Location -> USE GPS satellites... I think, not sure
Edit: Confirmed.
I had update disabled (i update the widget manually) and from the previous update it got stuck at my country (Macedonia).
I ticked the previously mentioned option, enabled the internet, chose to update the weather, and it located my exact region.

That's really obvious my friend! It´s like "Try restarting it" =)
Nah I know how to fix it, it worked for me.
Remove it from the home screen, then when you reattach it the widget (Clock as it's called) will ask you to choose a city and just simply pick "Current location" from the list. Remember to go to the weather app and update if the weather is not visible in the widget.

Nanchang?
Hi guys
I didn't want to create a new thread as I'm having similar problems to the OP.
Since yesterday, the current location and time on my home screen time/weather widget (the one with the flip clock and weather) shows that I'm in Nanchang, with the weather to suit (cos it certainly isn't 27 degrees celsius at 22:16 here in Leeds, West Yorkshire!).
I installed Gameboid last night, and a couple of games (roms); also NewsRoom, and installed Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2010
I removed Radiant, and Toss It games to free up some space
I have tried selecting Leeds as the City when adding the clock widget, which is fine as it shows me the correct time and weather on the widget/home screen. However, the time on the taskbar at the top still shows as 22.23 (at moment of typing this), which is the time in Nanchang.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Mo
It's ok guys. Seems to have been a glitch with network whilst I was at work cos as soon as I left Morley (Leeds), phone automatically straightened itself out. Weird. But I'm happy.

HTC clock widget

It seems to pull either the wrong weather or very much behind in what it downloads. It shows the sun being out way after dark and rain when there isnt. Even went to accuweathers website where it downloads the data from and they show the current data, I have even done a refresh inside the weather app it self. Deleted the widget and reloaded it. Is this a known issue others are having? Will it be fixed or is there a fix?
Works fine, check that ur settings are updating the widget in a shorter amount of time... i think default is at four hours
I have done that and even when i manually update/refresh weather it still shows wrong weather about 2 hours behind accuweathers website which it pulls from.
I am actually having this problem. And the weather keeps changing my location, when even GPS and self update is off. I mean, how can this be possible?
Weather also uses the "Use wireless networks" under my locations in settings. I know this much but as for the old weather details being shown vs the current weather on accuweather I am not sure.

What's it showing for you? I've noticed mine keeps switching between Guaynabo, Bayamon, and Puerto Rico (yes, just plain ol' PR)... To be fair I do live right in between Guaynabo and Bayamon so I can understand the random switching there (altho it seems to do it even when I haven't left the confines of my house). Not sure why it just states Puerto Rico sometimes.
The actual weather report does seem to be fairly accurate tho, from what I've seen. I might switch to the ADW Launcher soon anyway so I'm not terribly worried about HTC's weather widget.

HTC Weather App problem

I've had my HTC Desire since just after launch, and I've had the default HTC Clock/Weather widget on my main screen since then. It's always given my current location pretty accurately, with at most a 15minute delay when I arrive somewhere new.
Until yesterday. Since yesterday my location is given as 'United Kingdom', with what I can only presume is a generic weather info for the UK, which is different from the weather forecast for my actual location (I have my home location as one of the additional places).
I've tried removing the widget and re adding. I've tried powering off and on. I've tried replacing the widget with the one that just does weather. All with the same result, my location remains 'United Kingdom'.
Additional info, the GPS is enabled, and Google Maps and various other apps give my exact location quite happily almost instantly. Syncing works just fine for other apps, and the weather account is enabled under sync.
Any ideas how I can get the weather widget working again properly?

check if u have the latest software in the settings+ about phone, cuz pretty sure mine was working bugy untill the latest update
Mine started doing the same after an ota update.
Not found a fix for it, but found a way around it.
All I've done is go into the weather app from the widget, and manually added my city and deleted all the other irrelevant locations.
Not ideal as have to change it manually if I move out of my home city, but better than the generic uk weather until the bug is fixed. It's not often I venture outside the city limits anyway.

I've temporarily done this. Odd thing is that the list of default available cities was a bit strange. It wasn't the same as the list of cities I had selected as weather locations in the widget, and included some odd ones that I would never have selected.
Is there any way I can get a history of OTA updates that I have had?

Well if it means there is an impending Froyo update (i.e. within the next few days) then I'll live with it. Otherwise I wish they'd stop buggering about.
I also have had this issue it started for me about an hour ago... It usually very accurate with my location, I live in Jersey, in the Channel Islands (UK) and it was accurate down to the parish I live in, but all of a sudden it started displaying my location as Escondido and my clock is now 8hrs behind.... Ive never even heard of that place lol...
I cant get around this as my location is not avalible in the list it offers. the best I can do is go into settings, change the time so that atleast the little clock in the top right corner show the correct time, and wait and hope it resloves itself.
On a side note. When I go outside with the phone, the widget has a little fit and switches between Escondido and London. Neither of which are correct.
Hope this is only temporary as its highly irritating...
Well it's still happening for me now, so don't hold your breath. Maybe when T-Mobile release the 2.2 update for my Desire that'll fix it.
Hi I'm using my desire from Brazil with no problems like this. I bought it in switzerland, so it's an unlocked desire running 2.2

I'm having this problem right after Froyo update. I own an Asia Pacific Desire without contract. The weather app and clock widget keep showing the location of a town 70km from where I am.

HTC Weather Location Problem

Hello
I hope this isn't a repost.
I was wondering if anyone else is having an issue with the weather application not showing your correct location. Mine was working fine until Wednesday evening and now it just displays United Kingdom (Current Location). It does update the temperature and Google Maps knows where I am using cell location.
Anyone know of a fix or is this a wider issue with the the accuweather site?
Thanks
Paul
Mines been on the blink for a couple of weeks now. Some times it works and other times it just says UK
Same here - however, when I am in Bath (where the office is), Bath is shown, anywhere else on route now just says United Kingdom.
mine is the same went daft a few weeks ago worked for 1 day on wednesday and know is dead again just saying UK and thats it
Yep. Mine gone bat sh*t stupid too.
Even with gps on, it still doesn't get it right.
Ended up doing a work-around by going into the weather app, deleting all the irrelevant locations (paris, madrid etc) and manually added my city. Won't change when I go somewhere else, but rarely leave my city limits and its better than generic uk weather.
Not too fussed about it. Accuweather (who do the weather info for this widget) are not too crash hot on details anyway. Yesterday I was sat in my office, and it was raining so hard, it was hard to hear over the roar of the rain on the roof. My weather was saying "mostly sunny". Lol. Said the same after I refreshed it, and every uk news station saw this down-pour coming since tuesday.
You are better off having a link to the met office (if you in the uk) on your home page. Or just look out the window!

Mine too. Just says "current location" and nothing else. Has done for weeks.
Does anyone know if there is a fix or planned fix for the problem?
As i`m aware there is no fix, it was easy to fix on WiMo, maybe we should spam HTC for this ?
Weather newer worked on my location, but 2 miles away everything is fine
I think they're updating the locations all the time. Mine used to say Bamber Bridge even though I live in Leyland. It played up saying current location as United Kingdom and then started working again and shows my correct location.
I don't think there's any fix for this apart from manually adding your correct location until they get it fixed.

Ok thanks I'll spam them.
I wouldnt be so bothered but this was working last week and I've checked, Sheffield is still a real place....
weather location problem - fix!
I have been looking through other threads and have just found something that seemed to solve this problem.
Turn on the wifi (don't have to connect to any network, literally just have it turned on) and refresh the weather page and the location changes to your current location. Turn the wifi off and it's fine.
It has worked for me so far... I hope this helps someone else. (Phone: HTC Desire HD)

From what I can tell from my experience with the Desire weather widget, having accurate location data is largely dependant on connection quality. By this, I mean that if you're connected to wifi, you're going to get a much better read on things. When using GPRS, the weather seems to get a bit more vague - I'm lucky if I get "United Kingdom", since most of the time it will just say "Current location". I can't say what experience you'd get with EDGE or 3G, since I don't live in an area with either.
Your best bet is to ensure you give your phone every available avenue for location data. On a Desire running Froyo, from the Home screen, press:
Menu -> Settings -> Location
Make sure both "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" are ticked, then back up out to the Home screen. Go back in to the weather widget (for reference, I mean the clock / weather combo widget here) and refresh it. Give it a little bit, and it should (about 75% of the time) update to your proper location.
Some times when this probably won't work / you may still have trouble:
- When you have your device connected to a computer for the purposes of USB file transfer, tethering or HTC Sync.
- When you are connected to a wireless network using an invalid IP (such as having a static IP set to 192.168.1.x in a 0.x range).
- When you find yourself inside a faraday cage, a mile beneath the surface of the Earth.
This is all likely just common sense stuff that most people are doing already, but hope it helps some of you.

How are Live Tiles performing on your phone?

Live Tiles are one of the big features of WP7. They are supposed to spare you to the need to constantly open your apps. Yet they seem to never work or else barely. From what I gather, 1st party tiles are never an issue but the 3rd party ones behave erratically, a couple of days a week or only after a hard reset.
I did a hard reset myself a couple of days ago just after getting NoDo and none of my Live Tiles has ever worked since. I have the following pinned:
- WeatherDuck
- Flixter
- Currency Tile
- Tile Notes
- Flickr

My Live Tiles still work perfectly. Actually, I woke up to a couple, including WeatherBug, having information for me... Could it be an erratic data connection? I've seen you post about this before, but I'm not sure what could cause a few people to see this, when the majority of users don't.
i having the problem with my marketplace live tile, even i have updated all the apps, however, the live tile still indicate that updates are available. It is quite misleading.
I don't believe it's a data connection issue, I've spent most of the last 2 days home where I connect via Wifi.
Push notifications work again since the reset but all the 3rd party live tiles are dead.

You need to back out of the marketplace using the back button, not home button, otherwise it'll still show the number of updates as opposed to 0. I'm assuming that this is due to the fact that the marketplace periodically checks for updates, rather than other live tiles which use 'push' to update... This one seems to 'pull'

Related to a fault in the OS? Nope. I've had Beezz fail on me, and WeatherBug, but those were their faults on their ends... I don't have an incredible number of Live Tiles anyway, but from what I do use, they work... Beezz notifications stopped, but I assume that has to do with the app, as I can't even change the settings... I'll put up Flixster and see what happens, and post back.
As of now though, WeatherBug is updating every 40 minutes, just as I have it scheduled...
Never a single issue with a tile here... Everything has worked perfectly from the start.
That's very strange, most people I know using WP7 have these issues. I'm slowly starting to wonder if this has to do with whether or not you're in the US. I'll see how people answer first.

I've got every US WP7 device and though I don't use them all on a daily basis I've used each quite a bit and I haven't had any discernible issues with any phone aside from the surround.
That's my point, all the the users I know are in the UK and all have experienced tiles not working for days or weeks; and this since day one.
Hopefully with more answers we can shed some light on this.
My problems have been related to certain apps... Beez worked once, then stoped working. WeatherBug worked, then stopped, now works again.
All the other basic and normal live tiles (Exchange, Gmail, Live) have never stopped working, so I gather its mostly app related.

The apps you name as constantly working are 1st party apps which is why the poll is about 3rd party apps.
I can see you're in Europe and having issues, I might be onto something there. Is there any way to amend the poll questions? I should have "I'm/I'm not in the US" in there.
Some of mine occasionally stop working. Weatherbug works most of the time. The weather channel stopped working completely.
Ebay notifications only work intermitantly
A soft reset usually clears it though...
(This was on .7004 I am now on .7008 so I assume the same)

You're making a great assumption here. The 3rd party apps he named there have had documented server issues with their push notifications, which also provide the data for live tiles... Has zero to do with the OS. Maybe what you're seeing is the difference between a dedicated server (Microsoft) and some of these half-assed third party ones... I'm just guessing here though.
Also, you've asked this before, and from what I saw, most users on this forum said they haven't seen these issues.

From what I see the users without issues are in the US. Like I said earlier, I know a number of UK users who all get issues since day one. Let's see what others come up with.
Tiles work like sh..t basically.
They are advertised as a special WP7 feature but from my side they're fail ATM.
Even Zune one is a disaster, it changes the artwork picture every... 2 weeks.
As for 3rd party, some are better so looks like it's definitely programming problem also.
Weather Channel is mostly OK. Also UrbanDictionary.
The main thing is they are TOO SLOW for beeing any reliable source of information.
Instead they're just gimmick.
The only time they really work is when you KEEP your phone connected to data for hours.

"Official" WP7 live tiles have always worked fine for me, including Zune that swaps album artwork quite frequently.
The issue seems to be poor 3rd application coding.

Ok. My Zune shows one artwork for weeks even if I play other albums.
But the coding differs, that's for sure.
Some tiles never refresh, and some are fine.
