Phone was acting weird so re flashed the ROM to earlier 3VO ROM.
Once rebooted, it thought the headphones were in. If I put the headphones in, I can hear calls etc, but if I then remove the headphones the icon doesn't change and its stuck.
I've tried connecting USB to Windows Mobile Device Centre to see if it would change it - it didn't.
In all the reboots - I managed to get it to go off once - but then calls went through to the speaker!!!
What do I do?
Is this a hardware fault?
Where would I get the stock ROM from?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm currently on 3VO.3.00.112509 as I went back to it as it seemed more stable than 3VO.3.50.033010 on my phone for some reason.
Just done a reboot (again) and its off - but playing through the speaker now... (grr)

Thanks.
Have reflashed back to original official ROM. Oh - I'd forgotten how horrid the UI is... I miss Titanium Panel layouts...
Anyhow - the problem is still there so is clearly a hardware fault.

I have a problem with my O2 XDA IIs, the sound works perfectly for playing MP3's etc both on the internal speaker and on the external plugin headset!
Where's the problem? I hear you asking!
Well, the sound does not work at all when in a call, the caller can not hear me and I can not hear them, although the call is connected OK. The only time I can hear the caller or be heard is if I plug in a sync cable or put the device in the sync station, at that point it works ok when in a call. I belive this to be a power requirement as it also works when I plug in the car charger?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem, it has only been occuring for the last few days and I have not changed anything during this time which could have caused the problem... I know that's what they all say, but it's true this time!!!
Have you tried getting rid of unusual programs running in background? (Try 'Startup Manager' to take off some startup programs) or wait until any expert put a word on it.
There are only 2 entries starting and they are both the same as they have always been, the problem does appear to be quite random, as though every time I remove the sync cable something either happens or does not happen??
Does anyone know if there are any switches or anything attached to the sync connector on the phone which might be causing the problem?
I had a problem not unlike what you describe. It started after the battery ran very low on the phone while I was away from home.
The Phone would only work while in the cradle, and wouldn't work when out. The Speaker Phone function disappeared also.
I re-flashed the ROM.
I downgraded the ROM.
Re-formatted the storage card.
Took the Phone apart looking for a switch that might be stuck.
All to no avail.
Contacted Qtek who wanted me to return the phone.
So I tried one last thing before I gave up.
I left the phone with the Battery attached to run down again. (I left it for about a week)
re-charged the phone and its been fine ever since.
The conclusion I came too was it is a software register on the phone that was corrupted and the total drain of power cleared it.
When you ran the battery totally flat did this not clear all the stored data and installed apps etc? Only I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it?
Couldnt tell you sorry, I had already lost all data/apps with the reflash/formating.
No worries, if you hear or find anything elsewhere about this problem please let me know as this is getting very very annoying now!!!
Patch
Hi guys
This is a tipical problem of the BA. I had the same problem at the begining. This are the steps to solve it:
1. Backup your data (only contacts & meetings)
2. Hard reset of the device (press micro + On/Off button + reset)
3. Install the "PDA2k_UniDirectional_Patch.sa.cab" patch
4. Do not restore a whole backup (you will have the same problem again)
So it would be work fine. If you upgrade to the lastest ROM you will get this bug fixed too.
Good luck!
Hi i have the same problem and try a diferent approach.
Upgrade radio to version 1.15.
Problem appear to be solved.
I upgrade the rom yesterday, once i have change the board, and downgrade the rom.
What is this "PDA2k_UniDirectional_Patch.sa.cab" and what does it do exactly? As I'm already using the Radio 1.15.00.
Sound Patch
This file fixes the problem when you do not listen to the person who has called you.
You can download it from:

So my dash has worked great for the 4 years of its life that I have had it with minor hiccups. This new one has me stumped though...
The phone seems to think it has a headset connected to the device when there is no headset connected. This "ghost" headset is preventing me from making/receiving calls; what is a phone that cannot function as a phone?
I am running an older version of EVO's ROM (havn't had access to a cord to try flashing to the new version because I am on holiday) but I have tried a hard restart and that did not work.
here is the quirky part... Sometimes if I reboot the phone it goes away, briefly. It may go away for a few min or it may only go away for a few seconds after the boot. If I reboot and it turns off, then I try calling someone really quick, the ghost may come mid call and essentially drop me because I can neither hear nor speak anymore.
My gut says its a hardware problem but I wanted to get some other opinions before I start opening things up.
Thanks in advance.
what happens when you do connect your headset? it seems like a hardware problem..
never have had a headset, whether bluetooth or physical... thus I am scratching my head even more...
*knock on wood*
I managed to find a usb cable and I hooked it up to my computer. The few restarts while connected to my computer in the effort of updating the rom seemed to make it stop. I am wondering if maybe the SDA unlock may have done the trick? None the less I was a version behind on my ROMs so I update to the latest EVO ROM and seems to be smooth sailing.
well, i woke up this morning with an error on my phone that went away after i accidentally hit the w/e button only to notice the ghost headset was back... will try to find the error but suggestions are still welcome...
a hard reset with last 3VO's ROM may work
tried that, it booted up with the headset icon on the top lol

JHaste,
Lets forget testing a phone with a custom ROM, go back to your stock and see if happens?
Also in this process flash stock & hard-reset... & install nothing
Now if all is fine you have a clean base for custom ROM NAND flash has issues and can have residual stuff left from flashing to which is why i say flash stock etc.....
Good luck

Hi, my Desire HD just automaticly turn on speaker everytime i call someone or recieved a all.
I did some searching and people say turn it off may help. I tried to turn it off (no fast boot) remove the battery, and it still turn on auto speaker
I also realized that sometimes when i turn it on, carpanel automaticly launch. So this might be some problem with carpanel. I turned off the auto option in "dock" section of the setting. Still doesnt change anything
I think the proximity sensor have problems. So i tried some test with it. It's still fine
Can someone help me with this? i even tried hard reseting my phone, it doesnt help
What rom are you using? I had the same problem once, reflashing fixed it.

I'm using stock ROM , when turn on it says the branding is SFR something. I havent rooted my phone or install any other ROM ever
Well then you could try recalibrating the g-sensor from settings -> display.

You may have flip for speaker switched on. Go to Settings>Sound and then under Incoming Calls uncheck the option for Flip for Speaker.

That was what I was aiming for. The g-sensor thinks the phone is upside down when in fact it isn't, recalibrating should fix this.

Hi all. thanks you so much for the support.
I've tried all the above, like turn off carmode, turn off flip for speaker...etc. take out the battery, sim card, sd card. It's still the same. After some digging, i found a topic about this on the DHD forum. They said it was an USB problem. i tried to plug it in to the USB and wiggle it a little bit and carmode/speaker auto turn on and off time to time. I was about to give up and when i'm on my way to return it. It suddenly come back to normal, no problem, tested with the USB cord. This is so weird !!!!! but i'm glad that it's gone away

My other half had exactly the same thing on her Desire, turns out it was dirt/ fluff in the USB socket!
I have the same problem with my DHD, since I don't have the warranty for my set, is there a way around it. Like some sort of app which turns the speakers off when u make or recieve the call. That can make my life easier.
This problem started with my phone too..I tried all above such as changing rom,usb trick, sim+battery+sd remove, calibrating g-sensor ...Only thing i did not try is changing radio..If it wouldnt help me ,i dont know what to do since i dont have a warranty too..Its really annoying..
DHD speaker selfactivating
Those problems /carmode and speaker selfactivating/ started shortly after OTA 2.3 update.I honestly don't remember how I've managed the carmode issue, but initially I was able to solve the speaker selfactivating by pulling out the headphones' plug during a phone call. That did it for a once or twice,as the result lasted for a day or two. After reading the tricks suggested above I tried them with no success until pulling out the phone end of the usb during a phone call while connected to the pc in debug mode.So far I've made a few calls and it looks OK.
I don't want to scary you, but when I had the same problem I found only one solution which works- restore to factory settings... Its a pity...
Hi ,
I have the same problem on my Desire Z. I have had the phone for more then 6 months.
I was running stock: - no problem !
I was running Virtuous Sense 1.0.1 for about 3 months: - no problem !
Yesterday I got this: it auto turns on the loud speaker when I answer or dial.
Flip for speaker is turned off, G-Sensor is calibrated !
I have updated to Virtuous Sense 1.0.2 : same problem !
I have wiped off everything and flashed Virtuous Unity 1.24.0 : TWICE !
Same problem
Sorry for posting under DHD, I did not want to open a new topic on DZ forum , but I will if I must, this is driving me crazy !
I have solved this after wiping all data and flashing the rom again (3rd try !
I told it, there is only one solution- restoring factory settings...
same problem without OTA
Got the same problem since 2 weeks without having done any changes at all to my DHD (still on 1.72.405.3)
+ Car panel starts randomly when connected to USB for charging
+ Phone speaker always on regardless what I tried before
So, I really do not think this is a rom related issue but more a "aging" problem like the GPS connectivity.
Anybody any idea, why the USB plug should be respobsible for this strange behaviour?
I'm not sure this is a USB related issue. It may be the audio jack. My problems started after unplugging the headphones while listening music, to answer the phone.
same problem here ...
My phone also started having the same problem since today morning!
EDIT: So I tried to remove battery, then cleaned the micro-usb port and the headphone port and the issue seems to have disappeared atleast for now. Don't want to do a factory reset as have too much data and apps on phone.
EDIT 2: So as it turns out it was Go SMS Pro problem that was causing the issue since its update 2 days back. The developer has released a new version in Market now claiming to solve the issue.
Anyways whatever issue it is hope it does not return.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't find anything from a forum search. For some reason, I have absolutely no sound coming out from my phone. I can get sound from it when headphones are plugged in, but nothing else works yet. Im currently doing a backup and will try factory resetting, but just hoping there may be a solution out there before I leave for work.
Check the phone doesn't still think your headphones are plugged in. It's happened to many XS users

I get my headphone icon when i plug them in and get audio no problem, but as soon as they are removed it goes back to no audio. The first time i noticed it was when an alarm went off and i went to turn it off the audio stopped but it continued to vibrate. That was two nights ago now and i haven't had sound since. I'm unrooted with locked boot loader if it might help at all... I'm out of ideas
So the headphone icon appears and disappears as it should when plugged in and out? It's not staying shown when headphones are unplugged?

Did u try re-flashing a stock ftf with flashtool ?
That's going to be my next test when i get home from work in a few hours. was just hopping there might be a fix that could work in the meantime
Just finished re-flashing the stock ftf, and still no sound. The only thing I can think of left to try is opening the phone and seeing if its a short/loose wire, but I don't own torx screwdrivers and I can't find them in this area
Woke up one day to experience multiple issues with my phone. Il list the ones that are happening frequently.
Earpeice not working. (speakerphone does)
Mic not working.
Calls dont start dialing.
Phone doesnt recognize headphones plugged in. Once restarted its fine but when I unplug them the phone still thinks they are connected (icon in status bar)
After rebooting sometimes within a min il get a prompt (factory reset)and it reboots to recovery.
A reboot solves it but only for a few mins and its back to the same bs again. I have wiped the phone, cleared cache and I even even installed two separate roms but all the problems remain. Back on O OS

I know this is such a generic answer, but you can try a factory reset of your phone.
If this didn't help, I would suggest you use the unbrick tool, which may fix your issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/unbrick-phone-msmdownloadtool-v3-0-6-t3575801
If you still have this issue after you tried these things, It is probably hardware related (means it is a hardware defect)

Well I tried this and it restored the phone all the way back to Oxygen 4.0 but still lost all audio (mic, ear piece, speaker) and now I seemed to have lost video recording capabilities. I already bought a new phone in the meantime but I really wanted to figure this out. Oh well.
Similar problems
I have similar problems. It started six weeks ago with the headphones that could not be detected. Then calling stopped working. Back then I rooted my phone and all the problems where gone. Until last Sunday my phone app crashed. Now all the problems are back again. I tried wiping all my data (also internal storage) and installing a custom ROM. This did not help. Does anyone has any suggestions? I really like the phone and it is still in mint condition.
Thanks in advance
