I am having problems rooting with unrevoked. I try to downgrade the hboot from 0.93 but it won't install the driver onto my phone. Can someone please help? Thanks

Hi Dave,
Have you followed the necessary steps in this guide?
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install
EDIT: If not already done so, try it without the HTC Sync drivers installed as they cause a conflict with the modified unrEVOked USB drivers.
I've tried but still won't update driver ?? Thanks though

Try the following for me and let me know if it still fails to install the driver or recognise your phone:
Download HTC Sync and install it. Then uninstall HTC Sync as well as any other software that may interfere such as doubletwist. Next, follow this guide to set up the modified HBOOT drivers. Make sure you reboot your PC after doing this.
Next, make sure USB Debugging is on as UnrEVOked needs this to send adb commands to the phone. We also need to enable Unknown Sources so that UnrEVOked can push busybox and SuperUser Permissions apps to the phone.
With your phone go to Settings > Connect to PC > Default connection type > Charge Only and untick Ask Me. Then go to Settings > Applications > Development > Make sure USB Debugging is ticked. Then go back to Applications and make sure Unknown Sources is ticked.
Thanks for your help, I will give it another go over the weekend and let you know. By the way, if it does work, what Rom would you recomend?

There's so many to try i tend to stick with Sense roms, like LeeDroid's roms or NeoPhtye's Sense (AuraxTSense) and Sense HD (ReflexTSense HD) roms. Among many other great roms, Oxygen is nice too. There's also the new alternative MIUI rom, which was developed by Chinese dev's and is completely different to Sense, it's very much like Apple iOS and if that's your kind of thing, you can try that out also. Note: you can also use a different launcher like LauncherPro especially if the default MIUI launcher is not to your liking.
Maybe you should start with something a little easier just so you can properly get to grips with flashing custom roms. Give ReflexTSense v1.4.1 a try (the rom im currently using) as it is based on the Desire HD Sense 2.0 rom. It basically includes updated Sense features and is a super stable and fast rom.
Regards,
Mas.

I had the exact same problem after I got my phone and was afraid of installing HTC sync since it says not to have it running. But I could not get my computer to see my phone. The only way to get it was to use the HTC sync drivers then everything else was a piece of cake!
Thanks mas

No worries bud, just try out a few Sense roms and then you could even try out the newest revolutionary MIUI rom.
Here a link to a video demonstration of the rom running on the Desire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-9T44Bt7M
Even though i previously mentioned that this rom was developed by Chinese developers, it is now fully translated to 100% English and has extra features available that you can flash, like theming, alternative language packs, etc.
Word of warning: do not flash Rodriguez Styles MIUI rom v2 as it has bugs... i found out the hard way
Hi Gassner1 - What do you mean by use the HTC drivers? I've tried by just uninstalling HTC sync and leaving the drivers and by removing the drivers, Vista will still not update the hboot. I've reinstalled HTC sync and its now a newer version so will try again

has anyone got it working on the desire yet? i have been digging a little around, extracting the stock one, modding the Desire HD one, but nothing... it won't show in the "Inputmethod" dialog.
i have attached the HTC_IME.apk from the Desire hd, this is taken from Ownshere's port could you guys try and work your magic with it
EDIT: and i would just like to give a shout to the team that got the S-off working, so helpful in things like this
Settings > Keyboards then tick the box for it
But how did you even install it? Lol it has the same name as the stock one so cannot install it for me

i tried to delete the HTC_IME.apk, i tried to uninstall the original but that did not work and finally i tried to edit the xml files in the HD one, that did not work either :/
EDIT: Just tried editing it even more... now it can't install, it kicks my phone into a hot restart, then and adb just stops installing :/
Edit2: Creating a update.zip with the one directly extracted from the Desire HD rom, didn't work, nothing showing :/
Edit3: tried a update.zip with my own fail mod. I had to restore backsmali does not seem to decompile right...
I can install it ok using ROM manager, via clockworkmod
but it doesn't show in keyboard settings. I've used the keyboard on the Desire HD Rom, and the big improvement is the addition of cursor direction keys. Would nice to get this running on a more reliable Rom.

up? I'd love it on gingerbread!
I recently unbricked my Desire and upgraded to Froyo, but now whenever I try to install some apps my device reboots when it gets to the "Installing" phase. I have figured out that this is due to the fact that the SDK requires apps which need access to system resources to be installed on the device rather than on the SD card which is the Froyo default.
It seems this is a problem with rooted Droid X variants as well, but it is solved by installing a new ROM. Is that the easiest way to fix this, and can anyone point me to a stable Sense ROM which has the WiFi hotspot capability?
Thanks
Every sense rom has hotspot, there is a nice sticky in development with all the roms listed. Look for yourself what you like.

Hi. My "Connect to PC" wouldnt work. As a result, i cannot mount to Disk Drive etc. Any idea what is going on? I cannot even open Connect to PC in Setting too. =(
Do you have the latest HTC Sync 3.0.5481 installed?
Could try different usb port, or
Uninstall / reboot pc / reinstall HTC Sync.
Edit: Don't forget Uninstall HTC driver if uninstalling HTC sync doesn't do it.

Hi UpInTheAir
Thanks for replying. How do I get that latest HTC Sync apk file?
It's not apk. It's software and driver you have to load on the pc. Google it. DL and install. Let me know how you get on. Make sure don't connect the phone to pc in disk drive mode until software and drivers fully installed. It will tell you during installation, or you may have to reboot pc first.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies. Erm.. I did actually installed HTC Sync in my PC already but unable to get the notification on whether to Charge Only or etc.
But now the problem has been resolved. Ok, let me explain what has happened.
I noticed that some or probably all of my Sense apps such as Music and Gallery are always going into a Force Close mode.(I have no idea why. Past few days it is running smoothly and no issues. But this issue suddenly arise)
All other market apps are still working well.
Because of Sense apps unable to function properly, I decided to reboot my device and see whether it works or not. After rebooting, the Sense apps work well back again. I've just tried to connect to PC and yes it does work again.
So i guess the issue here is not about HTC Sync but.. ROM issue? But seriously I do not think its the ROM problem that causes Force Closes on Sense apps. Probably is my device. =( Or maybe certain apps are not properly installed and hence causing "interruption" with those Sense apps.

Hi Everyone
The problem is that Windows 7 64 bits, does not see my G2 anymore.
It does charge when i plug the USB.
I've tried on a different PC so I don't think the PC is the problem.
I have Cyanogen Mod installed as ROM. I can't get adb, nothing through the USB cable. Switch to diff cables as well just in case, installed Sense ROM as well no luck yet
Please help

Download HTC Sync from the support section of HTC's website, they have one version for all their Android phones. That will give you the drivers you need. Also see the adb guide in my signature.

*Did install the HTC sync from link on your adb guide link
This solved my problem
I would like to thank all members that tried to help on this. Appreciate your guys time and good intentions!
Basically my phone battery is draining like crazy and at times it can be realllyyy laggy, so I want to do a factory reset.
Though, for the many games and stuff I have on here, I want to backup my saves.
Now my phone is not rooted, so I wanted to use the ADB backup method with no root required.
Problem is, adb cannot connect to device for backup.
I have tried installing HTC Sync and HTC Sync Manager, both of which fail installing "HTC Installation Drivers" every time. I've also tried on another laptop.
I've read that this may be due to 64 bit operating systems, but I don't have access to a 32 bit. Any help?
download android SDK.

Are you on Jelly bean? if so install Sync manager by just plugging your phone in via usb. If on ICS you will need to intall HTC Sync from the following link for the drivers:
