I'm running Froyo with Unrevoked3 and I have tried pretty much every release of the wifi tether (experimental and not).
Whether or not I have encryption enabled I am able to connect, but with the typical "Limited or no connectivity" as Vista likes to put it.

Flash Myn's RLS4 and just try the sprint hotspot you should be good to go.
Thanks for the input, but last night after clearing out the old apk's, installing build 15, adding to DroidWall's whitelist before opening the app at all and starting it up (approving the normal SU permissions), it worked... It was on my whitelist before, but this time it just worked.
I will however look into Myn's RLS4, I'm guessing it's a patch that 'unlocks' the Sprint hotspot?
Welcome I'm glad you got it to work and yea it is on a few roms but Myn's is the most popular sense rom out.\

You must mean the stock 2.1 Android ROM. "Droid" is the name Verizon has given to a line of their Android phones.
Have you seen this thread, specifically post #8?
On August 17 I rooted and S-OFFed my phone in preparation of Froyo (then expected to come Aug 18). As we all know, that update was delayed slightly. When the new version leaked (I'm pretty sure this was the OTA) on I believe August 26, I pulled the trigger and installed. I also did the post upgrade stuff to get my root access back and restored most of my apps using titanium backup.
Everything was working great until last night. Now for some reason my FM radio force quits every time I try to use it. Also, weatherbug is acting funny. When I start my phone it seems to be unable to launch its temperature icon on the top bar until I launch the app manually.
My biggest concern is that I have a bigger underlying problem, maybe due to using the leak? Here is the software info on my phone, hopefully one of you guys can tell me if anything looks wrong here.
Thanks,
Dan

In "about phone" I find that my Defy is:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1. Is this in fact the Android OS version installed?
Build Number: JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 Is this in fact what in this forum is referred to as the phone's firmware version?
I ask this because do far I have seen firmware version only referred to as 2.51.1 and such. It seems very improtant to know before attempting to root the phone.
Yes, I've tried to find the answer elsewhere, no luck
Thanx to anyone with an asnwer!
Peter
Yes, 2.51.1 refers to the build number - there is no Android version 2.5[xxx]
All 2.51.1 ROMs are based on Android version 2.1/Éclair.
2.2/Froyo ROMs all have build numbers along the lines of 3.[xxx]

Thanks for clearing that up!
Root Achieved
Thanks for the advice.
1st I needed to download the Moto Tools (Moto Driver Installation).
I ran 1.7 of SuperOneClick but it kept freezing waiting for Device after appearing to push RageAgainstTheCage to the Defy. After trying numerous times with 1.7 and turning on/off debugging at certain places, I tried 1.3 of SuperOneClick and that worked right away.
Appreciate all the help!
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to submit a post about changing my rom but it keeps saying I can't add outside links although the post does not have any links?
Any ideas?!
Post:
Hi Everyone,
OK first of all I am new to all of this but I have a Desire HD...
Basically the phone is very laggy and a friend has told me to look at installing a new rom as that is the way forward...
So here I am, I have had a good luck around the forum but there seems to be so many different guides...
I am probably going to look at installing:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 4.0, 3.1 Gingerbread & HTC Sense 2.1 Android 2.3.2 - posted my mike1986...now my first question, is this stable and are there any problems with it?
My desire is:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

Build Number: 1.39.161.1 CL278886 release-keys
Software Number: 1.39.161.1
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
Now is there any major impact at changing the rom?!
Also is there anyway in which I can backup my text messages (most important) and also the installed apps and restore these once the process has been completed.
Thanks in advance!
Johnathon
hi.
Flashing a custom rom is a straight forward thing.
Here is the guide where you need to understand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996&highlight=guide
But before you flash, also check out your rom-to-flash thread on pre-requisite too.
There are lots of rom out there, if you like stable release, in my opinion, go for Android Revolution HD 3.2, or LeeDroid, or Core HD which run on Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Major impact : smoother , faster, customizable, etc .. (tried it !)
To backup :
1. SMS backup - install from market. it will back up all sms and send to your gmail.
2. Titanium backup - to backup apps and data (saved games, and everything). after flash new rom, you need to install back all your apps. restore from titanium backup is the easiest part.
However, I would recommend only restoring selective apps. That too "Data Only" option.
Found out the hard way that a full restore can have some adverse effect (For me heavy battery drain).
Why start two new threads with the exact same post?
Thanks for the replies guy's however I am still a little confused...just want to clear one thing up if you don't mind.
When I go to the guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996&highlight=guide
Do I do it in this order:
1. Complete the works.
2. Flash the recommended radio.
3. Flash my rom - with which instructions, the one in the post above or the ones attached to the rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984045
4. Job complete, big sigh of relief?!
Also as I am looking to upgrade to gingerbread, the rom above looks to be stable from what I have read, will I then be able to easily change the rom in the future to either newer or older versions of android os?!
I know people go on about the radio s and eng-s I think it is and saying they need to be turned off but after a certain version they aren't...will the custom rom's keep them turned off?!
Thanks for all of your help.
Johnathon

AMEN to the Voice Search!
Wonder if they held up the update because of the problems Netflix was having Sunday. They are supposed to be back up today. The update would not be much good and could cause more confusion if Netflix servers were down.

Update was offered to my mobile # 1, but not # 2.
I refused it. I won't update until my mobile # 2 has working NetFlix once more, or, until bootloader 2.16 is exploited for root. My thanks to all you hard working Devs, Mods, etc.

Nope, nothing here yet. Hope the unrevoked guys will be able to crack that damn bootloader soon. HTC is a failure. I was hoping that this release would unlock the bootloader, but HTC customer service said that they don't have any info. Fail.

I used unrevoked forever way back when they first released it and before i updated to Gingerbread OTA I used the newest unrevokedforever.zip / that kept me s-off even on the newest bootloader. I then just put amon-ra recovery onto the phone and flashed superuser... Never lost root that way.

Damn you shoulda downloaded it, copied the OTA file, then cancel install. That way you could have posted the update here so we could make a flashable zip for everyone.
