Verizon is pushing out an OTA update for VCast, Slacker, and other stuff.
Anyone have some experience with this? Is it going to un-root my phone? Because that would be, well, a pain.
I'm pretty sure that it won't unroot it, but if you made any modifications to the stock applications, it won't even run. It would fail the md5 or signature tests or whatever.
At least thats how I remember it working last time.
And wrong section.
The update has been pushed to my phone. Now I'm getting that annoying popup every 30 seconds to update my software. I'm running the warm two point two rom which is based off of the evo framework. Should I try to do the update and let it fail or not?

That pop up is annoying. Where is the update stored? I checked the root of my SD and it is not there. I was thinking of just deleting it.

I'm running Myn's 2.2,too. Choose to update with the OTA. I think it tried to update but failed. Didn't get an error message. The best thing is the nagging message went away and I still have root.

Same here. I see no changes at all as of now.
Moved to Q&A as not development
Kinda new but I had to hack a lot to get it installed
I was getting the popup as well and it was failing every time. You can download the OTA and try installing it from the recovery but if you removed any VZW app's it will fail more specifically VzNav.apk in my case.
I did some poking around the OTA update once I downloaded it. The file "updater-script" in META-INF\com\google\android is the file I modified to remove the asserts for the apk's I removed once rooted.
After the install was complete I used the instructions on the site below to redo root, but I have s-off so I believe if you don't have that it won't work for you.

I was told from sprint that I can get swype on stock evo but can't find it.... Anyone have an answer to where I can find this?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Long press on a text field, then hit input method. Swype should be one of the options.
Yeah I tried that but nothing happens, this is for wifes evo.. Shes not rooted and doesn't want to be. She only has one keyboard and that's why it won't show.... Is there a different method to put swype in? I tried giving her mine but she gets repeat force closes.... Hhmm, any ideas?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Is she on the latest OTA? Maybe you need to go into the settings and turn it on. I'm not on sense so I don't remember exactly where it is but if you hit menu and settings, it should be there under language and input if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, I tried that and that's when it started force closing, rebooted her phone and same thing... I unchecked and the force close stopped.... But when checked force close keeps popping up...
Did the FCs start after you tried to install your copy of Swype? Try clearing the data and cache for it.
Ah,,, ok, I'll try that once she gets off the phone....

Have you already tried downloading and running the latest RUU?
Well, her phone is fresh out of box, did they add swype on a ota update?
.... And can you tell me what the latest pri, ruu, etc. is? Thanks so much....

They did add Swype in the latest OTA, check for updates, install, and you should be good to go.

I rooted my EVO and flashed radio 'EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003.zip'
Then I flashed a rooted stock gingerbread/sense ROM 'supersonic_4.22.651.2_deodexed-signed.zip'
Problem 1: I reinstalled a bunch of my apps using Titanium Backup, but none of these apps are showing up in the Market.
Problem 2: I cannot sync Facebook for HTC Sense. Whenever I try to sign in, I keep getting the error "The service is currently unavailable. Do you want to try again?"
I have tried all sorts of things like uninstalling all Facebook for Android updates and even a supposed fix I found in other forums in which you edit your work information on your facebook profile. Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone help?

For the apps not showing up in your market it takes time and a reboot or two. The facebook thing I'm not sure about though, it wouldn't work right for me from day one so I haven't tried to use it in awhile.
Why do people need their apps to show up in the market if they already have them reinstalled with TB??

I just find it helpful to see which apps need updating. It's definitely not essential.
For the apps download a free app from the market and they should show up they did for me.

Normal when flashing a rom. Give it a few reboots and wait a day or so.

Again, just wait a day or so.

I'm sensing a pattern...
Thanks a lot guys. Today was my first experience with flashing. I can see why it's addicting.
I have a different problem after I flashed to the latest Gingerbread ROM, (on my eVO 4G btw). I flashed the latest ROM "gingerbread evo 1.2v", when that finished i flashed "EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003" (was told it should fix any radio issues). then flashed "gapps 5-21-2011 with Voicemail.apk and Gtalk 1.3 with Voice and Video". My EVO restarted fine but now i cant make any calls or recieve any. In fact the status bar at the top isn't even there. When i press the phone icon i get a message saying "Application not installed on your phone". I must be missing a step or something. Any help would be great, thanks.

I read in another forum you sometimes need to re-flash the kernel after flashing new radios. You could try re-flashing the ROM now that you have the updated radios.
just tried flashing the rom after everything else and still same results. Any other suggestions?

I'm new to flashing ROMs personally, but I've also read people recommending to do a clean wipe 2 or 3 times and wipe the dalvik cache as many times before flashing again. I don't know what sort of issues they feel they are preventing by doing that so I don't know how plausible of a solution it is, but if you've got the time it wouldn't hurt to try.
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in and you won't have to get your advice from a noob. Best of luck.
Help, I rooted my phone and I don't want it installing updates. But I got this notification that it has downloaded a system update and will install it when there's enough power. So I'm going to keep my phone on low until I find a way to prevent it from installing. Any tips guys and gals?
Does anyone know what the update is? The development may like for you to extract it from your phone. Could help in future development.

I just had the same problem to what I did was let it try to install but it can't because u don't have stock recovery.so it will still try but it will freeze and just pull the battery out then turn the phone back on and it will load right into cwm then just restart your system from there and u will be good to go. Its fast and easy

If I am not mistaken we had an app on our Evo's called FOTa.apk, do a search for it in google and see what they say....I have it on my Xoom and it works fine
I am going to try shfub's method. I think he removed the .zip update file so the phone will have nothing to flash.
I don't know if it is permanent but I clicked on the notification, went to /cache, removed the .zip update file, went back to the notification, asked it to install, had it reboot to recovery and fail, and booted into android. It stopped bugging me and stopped trying to download after that.

Do the same thing, except this time, after the failed install, when you are back in Android, type in adb shell or terminal
su
pm disable com.samsung
Alternatively you could freeze System Updates in Titanium.

Problem #1: I'm running RandomRom EI22 and I've done every step to prevent the System Update message, however it's still popping up. Definitely made sure I erased the systemupdate apk and everything else. What other methods are there to make it stop being such a nuisance?
Problem #2: I uninstalled regular Swype and installed the beta, ever since the original kept asking for a system update. After installing the beta, it worked fine. Now everytime I try, it keeps saying "Try again".

Do a search here on "FOTAKill.apk" - that was the only thing that helped me on both my phone and my wife's - but we are on Froyo so this might not work for you.
With that being said, all of what you tried has been suggested for Froyo users also, but didn't work - so give it a try. Sometimes the search on XDA doesn't seem to work well for me - so what I do is use Google, and in the search terms I type "XDA FOTAKill.apk"
You have to edit your build.prop to say 2.3.6 and EL30 in all places where it says EI22 and 2.3.5. Then reboot.

EDIT: I did the trick of allowing it to do an update, then I let it reboot, it goes to the "Triangle !" mode, wiped Dalvik and rebooted, and so far, it hasn't popped up yet.
Now to fix Swype...

I mentioned what has to be done before. Build.prop has to be edited.
Sorry, thought I mentioned that I did. My fault.
Yes, I did edit the build.prop file through Root Explorer, per your advice. Even after I did the final editing (missed a couple), the message still popped up. But, that's when I did the cache clearing and it didn't pop up again upon reboot.

If you are on a MTD rom, someone in another thread suggested going back to regular swype. You can get the appropo files from the Starsky ROM, this is one of the few MTD roms that uses swype still, and the only files that I found work.

system/app/swype.apk
system/lib/swypecore.so
I pushed using Root Explorer and got mine working again
The 'Android Update to EL30' is not removed by uninstalling system updates.apk that apk is meant to provision your Epic to Sprint. The Update Notification is caused by the 'Google Framework' Service. There may be ways to fool it, such as the buildprop edit suggested.
