[Q] about battery life on sense roms

Probably not the newest dillema but here goes nothing, since I've read all the posts regarding battery life, almost all comments from custom roms threads about that and so on.
Right now im using MCR r8 w/ addition + a2sd. My apps list running on desire can be found here:

Now my problem is that ive tried Pinky Desire, Leedroid, Nextsense, Delite and for the life of me, I barely make it through the day with the battery, like unpluging it @ 8 AM and pluging it @ 11 pm. Same goes for all roms metioned above. Tried with .20 radio and now with the newest version .30.
I must say I do NOT listen music on phone and I don't even use gps. I send 2-3 texts, and max 20 mins of call. I have 1 exchange mail running and 1 gmail account, i have friendstream syncing every 3 hours. I use Wifi and 3g. Im using it on vodafone romania, and since im in the city the gsm signal is good.
I tried using juicedefender, and setcpu with screenoff profile, they seem to make it worst (this is my apreciation, i didnt use any stat program to acctualy verify in % but for me so it seems).
To be honest im sick of hearing ppl "my desire last 4 days with music gps and 10000 mail accounts"
I even followed the battery recalibrate guide posted here on xda .
Anymore tips ?
Thanks, and yes I know this is the n+1 post about battery issues but all ive read the info is one inconclusive, some says they battery lasts 3-4 days on "heavy" usage" some they dont make it through the day (like me)
My desire has 2 mounths old.
For example. Last night arround 1 am i went to sleep and i was having 89% battery, this morning arround 8 i was having 72% left. No wifi on, just 3g data connection with exchange syncing @ 1 hour and gmail app for mail

No, since im a really big fan of sense

I have exactly the same problem as the OP.
I have tried all sense ROMS, it seems the best ROM for me was Opendesire which doesn't use 'sense'.
So far Pays has been rather good, but I don't get more than a day from my phone... I too have tried the calibration setting that was on XDA but to be honest, I'm kinda stuck too as I dont know which ROM to use...

Hi there, had the same problem as you and it didn't matter what rom I tried but still my battery kept draining, til I found out that I had a program that kept monitoring my desire's cpu constantly. Check for program's permissions where it won't let your phone go to sleep. Also check any program that constantly monitors your phone and refreshes every second.

The only app running that monitors anything is advanced task killer

Carlo, do up mean that we can save some battery if we stop that program?
I'm also can't get a full day usage out of my Desire.

I must say I totally agree with you. Changing ROM does not changes battery usage. It just won't last a day. I charged mine twice every single day. With mixed moderate-heavy usage of mostly internet basis.

Again, I totally agree with you. I couldn't believe with the slightest chance ppl could get 2 full days with heavy usage (4 hours of music, 4 hours of wifi, multiple account sync, facebook, few hours of browsing etc). I think they are just trying to bloat up things. (Eventhough they knew it's impossible) (or maybe they completely turned off their handset everytime they dont use the phone)
I also personally don't think a world class and professional company such as HTC will make highly variable units+battery performance for their products. Such as 3-4 days able HTC with half-day able HTC's.
Some ppl always argue that battery performace improve over time after several weeks of charges and discharges. Actually, they don't! Even if they do, the changes between 'just new' and after several weeks were not more than 10% differences. I got a blackberry 9700 and spare Nokia, and the battery last as long as ever started from second or third charges !

Based on my experience you really don't need task killer constantly running in the background, android OS does a good job of killing programs in itself, and task killer sometimes kills programs that need to be running in the background and the OS then restarts the said program which takes up more battery

Right now as I'm typing this I'm at 38% battery running for 1 day 20 hours and counting, by the way I'm using DeLite 1.1 as I really like sense, but as I said, it doesn't matter which rom you use, its the programs that drain your battery

Yah i know what you mean, but I dont use the autokill function, I use to kill some programs i choose too

Also check battery use in the settings, my android system use now is only around 5-7%, when i had the battery drain problem android system was constantly above 50%

Looks just like mine, are you on 3g? mine stays on standby for about 8 hours during work, but heavy use when I get out but mostly on wifi since I don't have an unlimited data package

I used to be a sense freak aswell. I soon learned to love AOSP builds, smoother, faster and much better battery life. Do a nandroid backup and then try OpenDesire, CM6 or Defrost (whichever you prefer) just to test the battery life for a day or two.

Well to be honest thats why I bought the desire, for sense, since im a big fan of htc ui ever since diamond and manila

Yes last night was on 3g, but i turn on wifi @ work and @ home

Could be the 3g, I would think that with you're usage its normal that it would drain quite fast...

It seems you have tried most of the tips from the various battery threads. However did you check your running services?(menu/settings/aplications/running services) I seem to remember for instance the skype services uses more than average battery.
Also, initially my battery life on leedroid wasn't great, untill i complete drained the battery, wiped battery stats and ever since then easily 36 to 40 hours connected to 3G, way more connected to 2G.
Also, check the mV value when your battery is charged, 100% isn't always the same. You can check this with spareparts, included in leedroid. Another thing i just remembered, people seem to recommend the overcharged application to check the mV value. On my phone that application actually seemed to drain the battery much quicker.
last tip for now, if you want to connect to 3G network set your phone to connect ONLY to 3g, NOT automatic 2g/3g.

some personal experience, I have stop using the little green thing, Advanced Task Killer Pro for 3 days. i realized my battery last more than slightly longer.
When i was using ATK, especially after waken from 8 hours sleep 20%-30% gone during idle. now without the ATK, these 3 days after i have waken only 5% gone during idle.

[Q] Weird battery drain

Ok guys n gals, here's a puzzle for you all.
A few days ago, I noticed that my standby consumption had gone from around 10 mA to around 40mA using mobile data but with all other radios and GPS off.
For testing purposes I disabled location services through wireless. No effect.
I have tried with several Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs and the results are identical.
I have also tried with different radios, flashed using both fastboot and recovery.
I have used the ROMs without settings or app restore and I haven't installed any other apps than those included in the various ROMs. Additionally, i have tried various kernels.
Using Airplane mode shaves of a couple of mA.
aLogcat isn't showing any weird lines, mostly garbage collections.
I have tried searching far and wide and I have tested freezing various potential culprit apps using titanium backups' freeze function and all the battery calibrations/fixes I have found, but nothing helps.
At the moment I am using Oxygen RC6 with their recommended radio 5.09.05.30_2 and I am still seeing the same issue. The phone has gone from making it almost two days with moderate usage to barely a day with little usage.
The phone is S-OFF and I am using the N1table.
Can anyone please help with this? Apologies if this problem has been described before. I really tried searching before writing tis, but it could be that my search fu is weak.

Have you found a solution? In my case i'm getting ~100mA with the phone sleeping... and I can't seem to fix that.

Maybe i'm totaly off, but, do you use Facebook app v1.5 ? If so, that's one power drain app because they messed up with new chat feature.

I am flashing it now and will report problems (or success I hope) in a while. According to the OP he managed to get to 1~2% hour drain which is very promising.
EDIT: It seems to have worked!!! I am back to about 10mA with screen off!

The last thing I tried was a total restore using a HTC RUU, so I am now S-ON
This didn't help much though, even if I was down to 27 mA on some occasions, maybe that's normal for HTC roms
I have rooted it again but not S-OFFed and I am running the latest CM7 build (#12).

@m4dm4n123: No I don't use facebook app. Additionally, I have tried removing as many apps as possible only keeping some google apps and currentwidget.
@slyn4ice: Thanks for the tip. I have just flashed it but I am not noticing any big difference. I am seeing a few mA:s reduction, but still far from 5-10 mA in standby... I'll let it run for a day and see if it improves.
I am still open for suggestions...

(Question) juice defender

Does anyone know if juice defender is actually a good app or no.
I use it on my phone but I never keep and data connections on anyway 3g 4g and wifi r always off unless I need to use them and then I turn them off when I'm done.
Since its "job" is kind of already done by me could it be a source of battery drain since its always running andin a way its for no reason.

Just think.its another app that wl run.just go to settings and customize that way.task killers waste battery and take up space.to maximize battery,research and try roms and kernels with different settings.im on miui rom,kernel v8,panache radio,and am at 38% battery,so with moderate use,its 38% after 10 hrs.gps off,with sporadic use of wifi.in otherwords,try different setups,but juice defender is up to u.

That's what I was thinking.
So you also think that advance task killer isn't nesessary?
I use my phone a lot for almost everything so I try to keep my battery as high as possble but sometimes after just 3 or 4 hours I could be at 30% or lower.

It is a very useful app, it will disable your radios when the screen is off to preserve battery life.

And I usually have problems with my signal I'm not sure if it could be from it or not but I'm gonna just uninstall it for a whil and see if there's any differences.

Juice defender works well for me. At work I would have to put my phone on the charge at noon just playing mp3s. i get through the hole day now with 40% or better. i stream music for about 7.5 hours of the work day.

I've used Juice Defender since I got my Epic.
Though now that I'm running an EH17 ROM, and frozen DRM services, it's really not necessary for me anymore. Been off the charger for 11 hours with light use and it's still over 50% - on the rom it shipped with I was lucky to get 8 hours before it would shut off (with JD I'd get about 18 hours).

It probably helps you cuz you have internet connection on and it turns it off when your phone is sleep. I keep all my internet connections off all the time so I don't think out does anything in my case.

I'm on eh17 too and I froze drm, sns, and system updates. So far I've been on my phone for an hour and a half and in still at 100% this is great. I installed juice defender last night.

I have been using juice defender for a few weeks and it helps my battery life a lot. It really depends on your usage. I am in roaming areas fairly often where my phone used to search for signal for a long time if I keep it on.

I installed Juice Defender the other day & my phone had issues right away. I unistalled within a couple of hours. However, afterwards I was unable to access my pictures or videos stored on the SD card. I know this app caused the issue because I was looking at some pics right before installing it & could not access them after installing. Luckily I ran accross a post in th PA CM10 thread that gave me the solution. For some reason the Juice Defender app placed a .nomedia file on the root of my SD card that was causing my issue. I deleated that file & the media scanner autmatically started running. Just like that I had pictures again.
I hope this helps anyone that may run across this issue.

It wasn't juice defender... if you have rom manager it was that... I use juice defender and have never had it place a .nomedia anywhere... the app doesn't place files anywhere...

Thanks for the correction.....I assumed that since installing JD was the only thing that had changed in the hour or two that the issue popped up, then that would be the cause.....I have had ROM Manager & GooManager for a while but have had no such issues before....I guess if it becomes an issue then I will have to loose those......I only use them to check for updates & always do manual downloads & installs for the ROM's anyway......

Your good... a recent update to rom manager messed some things up... if you check its all over the forums that everybodies media is disappearing... rom manager is to blame... but I believe it has been updated and fixed....

I find it depends on the ROM. I was using it for CM9 to help but I find the CM10 pre+kernel+nexus modem combo is doing me wonders. I also stopped using the facebook app, uninstalled facebook mgr as well and use Trillian to connect to FB, AIM, etc. also trying to get rid of this media server.. seems I dont need it. I expect more battery after that (if removing it is possible) because it's #3 on my batt draining list right now.

If you listen to music and such (I believe whether it be streaming or mp3s from the sd card) that's why you see media server so high... same for me, but I'm constantly sitening to music while surfing xda... and still pull off 16+ hours on cm10... I used to use juice defender, but found if your gonna turn of data and such, it saves more battery if you can remember to do it yourself instead of having an app use resources to do so.........

I used to use apps like JD or advanced task killer to kill background processes and turn stuff off until I found out how Android handles programs in the background so I became less concerned.
If you're having issues with massive drain on battery life, make sure its not because of weak cell phone reception. If you're in an area with little to no signal your phone will use up extra juice to try to attain a connection so it'll drain your battery like 50% faster. Also make sure you have things you don't use turned off... like BT, GPS, WIFI, 4G anything thats optional.
Also consider the battery and whether or not it needs replacement. I got a defective battery and didn't know it until I had the ability to compare my phone to 4 other Epic 4g phones.

Should i hard reset?

no matter what phone ive ever had, ive never gotten battery life like aot of you guys do. i dont know how you do IT but ive given up trying.. Even . even with roms i cant. i am on stock wiht note 2 and it is so bad that i can unplug and not touch my phone and it goes to 90 percent with the screen off within 20 minutes . i have sync gps wireless and bluetooth off. and my screen goes black in 10 seconds. one thing is when i go to running programs it shows alot so i use the broom to clean it and then when i check back to ruining programs a minute after, there are lots of apps open again. even things like word with friends that of course wouldn't be open if i didn't open it. have you heard of this/. or is it normal? would you suggest a hard reset? any suggestions would be appreciated. im not as savvy with flashing roms on here as i was with early phones so id prefer to say on stock. thanks so much

Phones aren't the same each one is different. What battery performance I get may not be the same as you as our chips etc may run slightly different.
With that said, the biggest influence over battery performance is the kernel. I run saber kernel 42.4 and get 1% loss per hour with the screen off.
Of course you can try that kernel and see how it works for you. There are a lot of tips threads in these forums but I would advise you to turn off tts any and all sounds on your phone, by that I mean keyboard sounds etc.
Then you need to download better battery stats and greenify. The first will tell you what apps are eating your battery and the second will let you force close the app until you restart it.

+1 for greenify. I would also look at xposed boot manager and recciever stop. Grenify puts programs to sleep and the other 2 stop them starting in the first place. You have to be rooted but you will definitely notice the difference

[Q] Battery draining so fast when using mobile internet

I'm using PureKat ROM for my Desire Z, and recently I've noticed that the battery drains so fast when I'm on career's 3G network (WiFi doesn't have this problem). I suspect on Google Play Services and I've disabled to auto-start, wake up and keep awake the phone and most of it's unnecessary services using this tutorial but it doesn't help. I've attached battery usage statistics after charging (all is normal there as you can see). Also I want to mention that 3G is mostly off (especially when it charges) so battery lasts as long as it is disabled (it can last for several days without 3G I think), and charging is really fast!
Has anyone had this problem?

Just to be on the safe side, check to see if this also happens on a stock ROM. I remember my old G2 did something like this. Can't check it anymore because my son killed it when I left him use it.

Thanks for the suggestion! Which exactly stock ROM version to use? And if I do that, it will disable root and restore to S-ON, right?

I thought that the problem was with battery, but when I replaced and tested it again, it still acts the same :/

I think that is normal because my desire z give me only 3 hours on 3g and about 6.5 hours on WiFi and now using htc one it also have quit same battery timing like that !

I think that I've solved it with SetCPU profiles. Battery life is noticeably better now.
