I used over 20gb of data my first month with HD7 :O - Windows Phone 7 General

OMG I dont stream movies or youtube. I stream music with my zune pass sometimes. I did download one albums over 3g. I suppose this is why?
I did get a text from Tmobile confirming my data throttling.
Here is the read out from my bill
21,306.0503 MB
Thank god for unlimited data!

Post a pic or something as this is unreal on a phone. 1 album wouldn't even take 100mb, 250mb if its high quality.
Sounds like an error somewhere.

Seriously get that checked out - that's like unheard of on a phone 0__0

I heard from someone that his wifes phone (I thought the Samsung Focus) was syncing every night at 11:00 15MB of data.
Can you see if there is something like that happening?
Have you enabled sending customer feedback, uploading pictures to skydrive enabled?

Insane! I've only used like 30Mb since 12-27. I'm cheap though and only use data if its something that absolutely can't wait till I'm in range of some wifi. I also deselected "use cellular data" for my updates and feedback. Of course the updates are no worries for at another month at the least.

Are you sure it's mb's and not kb's? Maybe it's just 21mb of data

I'm guaranteing its KB...

I am going to monitior Decemeber's usage for sure and see what changes.
1. I do use automatic Skydrive backup of photos
2. GPS is mostly always on
3. I social network a lot (twitter/foursquare/fb)
4. I have a zune pass though I tried streaming mostly on wifi
5. I also have a premium Slacker radio account
I suspect that even if you turn on wifi the phone continues using data unless you stream content after turning the wifi on. To be safe I turn data off then turn wifi on.

I think you've used 20mb's.. not 20000...

try this at&t data calculator tool.. it seems if you stream music and movies, your data adds up. this is why i would never stream a movie on my phone. at&t's data plans stink.

i don't believe so. i believe wifi becomes the primary data connection as soon as you turn it on and it's connected to a network.

An MP3 album is roughly 50MBytes @ 128Kbps or 4MBytes per track.
20GB in a month equates to streaming 13 albums a day, which does seem quite a lot, you'd be streaming most of your waking hours. You'd also have to have your phone on charge most of the time.

Zune steams at a higher bitrate than that, and im almost sure its kb, cause you would gwt throttled fast on tmo with that kind of data usage, or capped on other carriers...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

it's possible. I use 5gb on average per month. nothing crazy, just Pandora all day and sftp'ing movies to/from my Mac @ home

you can tell that it is MB by the 4 digits after the dot. if it would be GB there could only be 3 digits. 4 digits are commonly used to avoid rounding errors and/or to be more precise with the counting.

tmobile did throttle my data. I received a text saying due to my high usage my speeds would be slowed for the remainder of the billing cycle. Around that time I checked and was at 6gb of usage.

Mobile data stays on while WiFi is on

I just unlocked my T-Mo GS2 and it's working great so far. Only thing I miss from my HTC Desire was that Mobile Data used to automatically switch off whenever I'm connected to wifi networks.
This doesn't seem to be the case here. Data indicator stays on even though I'm connected to my home wifi.
Is there a setting option that I'm missing somewhere?
I notice this as well. Its sporadic though. Data does sometimes drop off but not always.

Yes, yes! I thought it was my router or something. Sometimes the device will try and use mobile data even if I have a very weak cell signal and a very strong wifi signal. It usually works right after connecting to wifi, but after being connect for a long period of time, it seems to try and switch back to mobile data despite my wifi sleep policy being set to 'Never'.

This issue has already been posted somewhere.... I think in the battery thread. The fix was to get the Llama app and set up a profile to switch wifi off when no wifi available, and to switch 4G off when connected via wifi.
Wifi Fixer app in Market seems to be working nicely so far too.

The system is going to turn on your data when it needs to check info or upload/download data that verifies your device or is of a sensitive nature to the system, such as purchase authorizations in the market. When our data connection is popping up while connected to wifi and you're not doing anything (like making a market purchase), there could be undesirable transmission of data going on. Not to say it's definitely malicious in nature, however like I said I do see data transmissions taking place for no apparent reason. Could be some app or widget I use has an auto update that does something to activate it, but as long as the app keeps transmission and activity levels minimal, it's unlikely to pop up on a security app that alerts based on excessive data usage.

OK, good to know that I'm not alone in this.
It seems that data isn't being used much while connected to wifi. About of 1mb of traffic through all the time that I was connected to wifi. That was a few hours of usage last evening, and then the whole night on idle.
The question is how is this affecting battery life when it just sits there doing nothing.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Mine has been doing that too, I figured out it was an app making it happen. For me it was the app "beat the traffic" because as soon as I uninstalled it, mobile data went away while on wifi.

Same problem, same cause - except mine was a background thread for "Media Hub", which of course is one of those DRM crazy apps that will not work over WiFi. Ran it to just check it out, but nothing worth seeing there so that won't happen again.
When both were running, it seemed each app choose its own path for connectivity, probably related to how the app was coded. For example streaming from web via Flash used WiFi, but most other apps used 4G.
Edit: Add T-Mobile's "My Account" application as one that causes this to happen.
This seems like a side effect of a tremendous amount of bloatware on this phone. Some of those magenta apps only work on the mobile network. Sometimes you will notice that wifi only will show and then all of a sudden you see both the 4g and wifi on at the same time. Hopefully root will take care of the problem.
If it was programmed correctly it would not allow those background apps to update on the 4g network but it seems the coding leaves it open to start up even when on wifi. This is an assumption but from my tests, it seems that's what's causing it.

What are you killing when you go to the ram tab?

Mobile 3g hotspot hack

So this is something i have tested working myself. I DO NOT recommend this for everyone simply because you can severely mess up your phone and it's wireless connections.
In a nut shell what this allows you to do is utilize your phones built in 3g mobile hot spot and tethering application without paying the extra $20 a month. The legality of this is questionable so use it at your own risk.
What you need:
Samsung drivers(you can find these)
QPST software download it here
1. Install the samsung driver for our phone, as well as the QPST software
2. Place your phone in modem mode(settings, wireless, enable dial up)
3. Plug in your phone and allow all drivers and everything to install.
4. Load up QPST configuration
5. Navigate to the tab that says ports and select "Add New Port"(if all is well you should have one that says something about usb, or anything about your phone)
6. Once the device is added go to the top menu bar, select "Start Clients" and then "Service Programming"
7. Next select "OK" to the device in the box.
Now for the tricky things where you MUST be careful!
8. at the bottom of this box select "Read from Phone"
9. If the password in the box is not "000000"(six zeros) type it in and click OK.
10. You now want to tab over on the top until you see the tab that says "M. IP" select this.
11. Select Profile 0(it will be the very first one on the top) and select "Edit..."
12. You now should Have two input boxes the first one labled "NAI" and the second "Tethered NAI"
13. Under "Tethered NAI" it should say something similar to "[email protected]" (the X's refer to your personal number)
14. You need to edit this so that it no longer has "dun" in it,
"[email protected]"
15. You should now have NAI and Tethered NAI as the same thing. Now click OK and finally "Write to phone"(located in the bottom left). Your phone will reboot its self.
16. Upon first boot you need to go back into settings, wireless, and disable dial up networking. (first time i did this i got a force close with gapps, but did not cause any issues)
If you followed this exactly, you should now have 3g mobile hotspot
I must warn you however, if you reprogram your phone via *228 this will go away! so it will have to be performed again.
Enjoy!
Is this continuum specific? I've guy a buddy with a Samsung showcase that is very interested.
it should be able to work on most phones. I modified this from a samsung fascinate guide and wrote more detailed instructions, however it should work for most android devices.
ah not to rain on your parade but wouldnt it be easier to just use googles wireles tether 3.0 above and select samsung facinate softap mode pretty much anything will pick that up.
Perhaps it would be easier, but it adds extra bloat and just isn't as good as using the original..
Imagine, you want to tether via wireless or wired.. well you simply go into your drawer and select 3g mobile hotspot... So much easier than downloading an app that you are either limited to non secure sights via a wired connection(pda net) or you have to use a tethering app that may or may not work properly, supports only an adhoc connection, has connectivity issues or is just a PITA to setup...
So why not use the app that is already in your app drawer that you can't get away.
Give it time and i'll have a patch for exactly this where you won't even need to perform these steps...
Oh, did i mention i can alter the amount of devices you can have connected at once via 3g wireless hotspot, and my speeds over 3g with my rom are coming in between 0.5MB-3MB per second (as of the tests i've done as of now. I just pulled 1.71mb/sec upload sucks, but i'm not uploading things using it. lol)

The beauty of this modification is that the regular 3g uses the connection of [email protected]... When you connect up the 3g wireless hotspot it sets the connection to [email protected].. This is how they know you have tethering because verizon sets this connection as active. SOOO what this is actually doing is setting the tethering app to utulize the normal 3g connection. SOOO it looks as if you are simply using the normal 3g connection..
Another way to do this is to run the 3g hotspot and have a widget to turn on and off 3g. When you toggle the connection it sets the connection back to the normal 3g even though you have open 3ghotspot Thus allowing tethering.
I am testing this now and i just performed option 2 after *228 and it did not break tethering. In fact i am on it now. Time for option 1 test
The new wireless tether allows regular connections, not just ADHOC
I've done this before, not gonna lie... But I deemed it.... Eh... Not worth it also, a lot of people have issues with dropped signal after doing it But, it is nifty, no doubt I was messing around with qdxm and such since my original enV

Well I tried this
But for some weird reason every time I trie to mod and restart the phone the parameters return to their original setting, Like I didn't do anything to change it.
Is there something wrong?
I used QPST and if I change the vrzw3g something to anything and restart the phone everything goes back to default...
Thanks for any help.....
If you can't get it working, I honestly wouldn't struggle with it anymore like I said, this is morally grey/illegal, has caused dropped signal for some fascinate users, can be tracked, and has a lot of good alternatives... Wifi tether is my favorite

On wifi connection, but sometimes counts towards total data usage..

When I am home, I am always on wifi connection. Never really get disconnected. Today I was looking over my bill and noticed that alot of times, I have like 10mb or 12mbs used, while I am still connected. Most of the time happens in the middle of the night when sleeping, but also sometimes during the evening when home.
Is this normal?
At first I thought I might be losing connection to wifi sometimes, but even if that happened, 10mbs? When sleeping? I doubt I am losing connection though
I hardly have any apps..
Any idea

No internet, maybe blocked by T-Mobile on my Note 3

Hello everyone,
Since 2 days now, my 4G/LTE/EDGE symbols have been constantly appearing and dissapearing. I am in the NF1 firmware and rooted. It was working great but now it is like goin on/off like every 5 seconds. I think my data got blocked by T-Mobile but I'm really not sure.

You think you went over your allotted data limit? If that was so then the symbol would switch to 4G instead of 4Glte, Maybe you are right that you've passed your limit and maybe you should check settings/more networks/mobile networks and ensure that network mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM and check that mobile data is enabled.........and my last guess could be that maybe your sim is loose or failing?

I think it is a bug in the system. I used 2056.47GB according to the My T-Mobile website (tethering non stop), but on the use tab it tells me I used 2048GB of Unlimited. Maybe that stopped my data. I guess on the 17th it will reset and I'll have internet again since calls and messages works correctly. Also, there's no alert on my account and neither a message sent, so my guess is their system just limit the data to 2048GB somehow.

I called them and they said the data was not blocked and that it was not possible to block because it is unlimited, which I think is clearly a system bug or a hard or soft limit of 2048GB
I find it really hard to believe that you managed to use 2TB of data, even if you're tethering. I'm not saying you're lieing, but I think there's something wrong on the backend here that's not reporting appropriately.
There's obviously some kind of issue occuring when you authenticate on the T-Mobile network. My suggestion is either ODIN the phone back to stock and try again, or go into a Store and see if they can tell you anything about your account that's throwing flags at them.
I hope they did block you.

Yeah I think they did that throttling thing because of me
Well, I'm hoping the 17th I get the internet again, of course more carefully. I was just looking at the "how much unlimited data means" limit and I seem to have found it.
If not, the reps said it could be the SIM Card and I have to go to the store then.

If not, the reps said it could be the SIM Card and I have to go to the store then.

How can you even call TMO with a straight face? 2 TB is abusing it, dude.
Can you try a few things?
1) Turn the phone off then back on see how long you have data for.
2) Force the data band of the phone and see how long data works for.
3) Put your SIM into a different device and see how long you have data for.
And of course if you can try all these things on a few different towers just to be sure.
Also can you try cooking an egg on your phone? That thing must be running pretty HOT.

All of that was what the reps said me to do, but data doesn't work.
Here is the bug I suspect, which makes me believe data is turned off at 2048GB:
In this image, the data reported 2048GB, but it let me use a little more. It just stayed at 2048GB

Here you can see that it is reporting what I really used before data was turned off:
I know I may have abused but still they didn't really said nothing about it, and they said blocking can't be done on the phone call. They said to visit the store for a phone/SIM checkup.
You can try to reset your NV values and modem. Below is a link to the thread with instructions.

I have just confirmed myself that this is indeed a system limitation by T-Mobile. Today my cycle reset and I got my data back.
So, in conclusion, T-Mobile unlimited plan indeed have the 2048GB limit.
I hope people aren't complaining about a 2 terabytes limit. I felt like I was abusing when going through 10 gigs a month.

OMG...2TB of mobile data, that's insane!! Even I have The 105Mbps Comcast plan and I can only manage to use 170GB a month(streaming Netflix and downloading torrents everyday)

T-Mobile + YouTube Constant Buffering

I'm getting constant buffering when watching YouTube when I'm on T-Mobile cellular network 4G/LTE. This occurs not just at a single location, but everywhere.
There's no buffering, however, when turn on wifi and connect to a hotspot.
Anyone else having this issue as well? Any fix?
Other video app, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc. work just fine. No buffering.
Also, I have unlimited data. There's no throttling.
Update 1:
F*cking T-Mobile! YouTube found evidence that the videos were being throttled, whether the customers have the Bing On feature turned on or not.

I have this exact same issue. I would love to know a fix for this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think YouTube is part of Bing On.

I experience the same while on 4G/LTE and while this is happening if I log out of my YouTube account it magically stops buffering and starts up no problem.
After viewing several videos with no lag or buffering while still on LTE if I log into my account it goes right back to buffering and
It won't load or start, it tells me to check my connection.
Any input will be appreciated.
Pp.
Anybody out there?

When binge on is turned on, it lowers the stream for ALL video down to 480p. When a site joins binge on, it just means they don't count against your data. If you've turned binge on off and still have problems, I'd call customer care.
I tried logging out of my account, it still buffered everyone 10-5 seconds.

Your issue could be the strength / quality of your lte/4G in your area.
I'm in the city so I'm swamped with 4G/LTE while I'm outside but when indoors it loses its edge so I'll have wifi on and can log back into YouTube no problem. I have clocked faster speeds at times on 4G than my broadband Internet but still can't open youtube app while logged in, always have to log out.

Have you checked how many gigs of data you have used this month? Unlimited data gives you only 23gb lte before getting de-prioritized, meaning you'll get this kinda buffering issue. I recently experienced this problem with YouTube and other video apps that's not part of binge on.

Go into your applications manager and reset all the app preferences under "more" on the upper right corner. You'll have to disable the apps you don't want again. This solution has helped me with log in issues with YouTube and other google services. GL.
