About a week ago or so OTA update feature was added to the popular MIUI ROM. But I still see people releasing their own versions of the ROM.
So I'd like to know what happens if I download the OTA update directly from MIUI? I assume it will go back to chinese but can't I just install the language pack provided by custom ROM builders?

Ok so now I'm rooted and I'm not installing OTAs, but where does that leave my phone? I read all the root information in the stickies and they say to get new ROMs once they become available, but where should I be following these new ROMs? Is there some place I can check every day or so often to discover if the latest OS version has a ROM? I think this is important information especially concerning security updates and such that may be included in the latest versions of Android. Perhaps this information (such as where to get the latest ROMs or even who is working on them or even what the latest version of the operating system that will work on an evo) is deserving of a sticky.
Thanks a lot for any help. Now that I am rooted I don't want to fall behind in important updates. I even heard the latest OTA for Evo has Swype. (I have a version, but even so...)
Some ROMs have built in updaters like Fresh, Myns and others I can't remember. Also I believe the paid version of rom manager has a updater.
The best though is to bookmark the thread where you got your rom and check it every so often.
I wouldn't worry about daily updates, even the best dev will only update every couple weeks.
Also most of the sense based roms will update a day or two after a OTA update. ASOP are in their own category and generally update when Google or cyanogen release something new.
Currently i am using Liquid Smooth 1.3. I have clockwork recovery installed and my cell's product code is YAKJUJP. I want to go back to the original rom and kernel and also want to receive OTA updates ? Solution ? + also want the latest Google update (that fixes the signal issues on 4.0.4). I want to flash all these and also be able to get updates in the future ...
Search the forums… this question has been answered, maybe, 450+ times.

Can we Update any Custom ROM OTA? as same applicable for stock ROM where we gets update notification & it does update itself ?
coz i just worried abt latest updates which aren't always readily available for custom roms in Cwm format, where in stock rooted ROM the update can be done by temp. unrooting & flashing back stock recovery.
So, any1 understand or gone through this issue plz help me forward to proceed .
yes i will be implementing my roms with GOOMANAGER which will say when a rom is offered OTA
hmm! thanks for the reply dude!
bt i need to know now is bcoz all custom ROMS available are having v.2.22.xxx.x, & in India i've stock updated with v2.24.xxx.x, So can i get/apply the same update OTA on any custom ROM or ur cm9 also now?
if yes then how?( it would be AWeSomE.)
No only pure stock ROMs can receive OTA updates.
OK got it. :good:
Bit of a noob question, but before I rooted/flashed custom firmware my stock firmware was 1.54.651.8. At some point I'm going to have to update it, so it works with new roms right? Also, how do I go about updating without loosing my root?
The devs of any rom worth flashing always incorporate the latest stock updates into a new version of their rom.
Most custom roms update monthly. HTC updates... what? Every 6 month?
Just stick with the custom rom you like and rest assured - your not missing out on anything the stock rom may have to offer. But if you feel the need, just RUU back to stock....

Thanks.
So one of my friends gave me this device on Honeycomb 3.2.1. I scoured these forums for links to ICS stock ROMs and found one that has a build number of "Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1" I installed it and tried to run an OTA update just to find out they took their servers down. I was wondering if someone could supply me with the latest stock ROM I could install if there's a later one.
Thanks in advance!
