The Touch Pro2 does not support importing contacts from a file. You'll need to input them manually on the device or on the e-mail program you may sync with. You could also add the contacts to Microsoft My Phone by going to the website on your computer and adding them there. Then the next time you sync with My Phone, all your contacts will be updated.

Check out Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool. It has an option to not show the SIM card entries in Contacts.
hide sim cab
Like Dr. P mentions often, this is one of the cab I keep on my storage card

CM7 help with some issues?

Looking to see if I can solve some issues with my phone without havign to do a fatcory reset,
1. At first the phone wasn't showing contacts from the sim card. So I imported them, but now it appears the phone is reading them as I have duplicates for a lot of the contacts. How do I delete the ones off my phone.
2. I have FB on my phone, but contacts unsynced. When ever I get a txt it comes through with their facebook account name and sometimes their picture. It even happens when they call me. How can I stop this from happening?
Basically how can I use only the contacts on my sim card? Don't want the phone using any others!
Thanks,
First install "go contacts" from market. In its menu options, you can batch delete all contacts. Do it. Then go to settings in your phone( before Google or Facebook sync the contacts again), then go to accounts and sync. You may see you online accounts there like gmail, facebook etc. Click on every account you have and untick sync contacts( if you want to avoid any others like sync Calender/ mail etc, you can untick it too) . Done fb or gmail will never sync contacts till you tick it again and do a sync.
Now go to contacts in your phone( if you are done with removing contacts, you can uninstall " go contacts". I do the same with it on my cm7 rom, as the stock contact application does not have a batch delete option . If you can find any other application which can do the same batch delete , u may use it insted of " go contacts ") now in contacts click menu and it have an import/ export option. Use it to copy contacts from sim to phone.
Remember to take a backup of all you contacts to SD card using the import/ export option. In case you may delete phone/ sim contacts. Pls note that phone contacts load much faster than sim contacts. So just copy it to phone memory. And use it.

simple.....!!
see first of all keep the facebook for android" app on internal memory...its important othewise you will have to sync every time after the boot...to sync all your fb contact with phone.or to have all your FB contact on your phone you just have to go to settings of the Facebook app...press menu on the primary facebook page..and then select settings and their you'll find an option to sync your contacts...just select "sync all"... an their you go....DONE!!
and yes dont forget to join your existing phone contacts or gmail contacts to your FB contacts it can be done by open the contact you want to join/link > select editing contacts from menu > now again go to menu and their you will see option to join. and in the edit menu u'll also find NICK NAME bar just fill your friends nick name their and it'll be shown in every call/msg to you...
anmol, thats how to sync FB contacts. I wanted to do the opposit.
So I deleted all contacts. Including sim card ones =[
How can I add a conact to sim card for the phone to view them? I can only see the option of my google account of phone only, unsynced.
I prefer to keep all my conacts on my sim card, if something happens to my phone atleast I have the sim card!
CM just seems one big pain after an other!
Remb you have an sd too, back up contacts to sd. I think default contact manager on cm7 have no option to copy contacts to sim.

Aye thanks guys, noticed that it didn't actually delete the contacts off my sim card. Sure I tried to import off sim, either phone was having a hissy fit or I was being an idiot.
Got it all sorted now though!

One of the big advantages to have a Google Android phone over a non smart phone was the built in feature of contact sync between the device and the Google "cloud" for each Google account on the device.
I've always used this contact sync feature and it has provided peace of mind knowing my contacts are also backed up in the cloud where I can access them online, download them, edit or save them without having access to my device.
Also, as I move between Android devices, all I do is login with my Google account and the device loads my most recent version of the contacts and then continues to keep them in sync.
I do know Android stores the contacts in a .db file under the /data partition and this could be pulled from a device as a rough backup/restore method. I don't recall having heard of anybody saving their contacts to the 'sd card'. I'm not really sure the benefit to this. The contacts .db file for Android is an sqlite database, as all other .db files on Android are, and there are programs out there to import/export contacts to/from these sqlite .db files.
What type of contacts file are you referring to? .db ? Could you post up the name of the exact file? What application did you use to create the contacts on your sdcard?
The more detailed the information the better the reply.
Hope that helps and I didnt miss the mark!

Contact Sync Help

My sister has a business and she uses her EVO as a business phone, she has around 7,000 contacts saved in the phone, The problem is now that it is messing up the phones memory taking 218 MB of Space. I understand How to Import/Export contacts to gmail via .VCF file but the contacts are just copied and put on the gmail account and remain on the phone. When I go to settings, Accounts and sync. I tap the sync button but nothing really happens and the date remains the same. I dont know how to remove the contacts from the phones memory and keep them only on gmail. Im afraid if I start randomly deleting I may lose 7,000+ contacts and You guys would be reading my obituary. What do you recommend I do? Thanks!
Some brief googling, it woud seem you have to manually add them one by one into gmail via a computer (Easiest method of this mundane method, irony?) and then sync your contacts to the phone via your google account. This way when you switch phone just add google account and BAM, all contacts. I'll look for an easier way.

Further googling, I found this. Idk if you've tried this, seeing as you mentioned VCF, but give this a whirl.
First you will want to transfer your old contacts off your phone
To export contacts to an SD card:
SDcard must be inserted and "mounted".
From the home screen, touch Contacts
Touch the Menu Key, press More
Touch Import/Export
Touch Export to SD card
Handset will confirm VCF filename.
Contacts will be located in the root directory on your sdcard as a .vcf file.
Now, plug your phone into your computer, and mount it as a disk drive. Next you need to import these contacts to Google Contacts

Also, verify in gmail that the contacts are indeed there. IF in fact they are all indeed there, it is safe to delete them as they will be in google. I think that even though they are backed up, since they are on the phone already, gmail wont sync twice.... But I've always synced to gmail instead of phone so, I wouldn't really know much on the subject. Sorry, Hope this helps though
Edits: Further Digging yields results
You got it, back up online through gmail and save the file to a conputer, that is 2 safe places.
Done, move on.

how to transfer contacts (VCard) onto HOX?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do i import my old contacts onto my HOX? i previously owned a galaxy s2 and i got MY number transfered from my old sim card in that phone onto a new microsim card this morning in my local O2 store, and had previously backed up / saved my contacts off of my old sim onto my pc as a VCARD? but i cant figure out how to transfer that onto my phone? if i try to use the HTC sync program on my pc it doesnt let me, i assume thats for transfering FROM your phone onto the pc and not the other way around? i dont want to have to type them all in again (GAH! take far to long!!). any ideas? am i being dim? what'd i miss?
Are your contacts stored in gmail, if so I thought it would sync from there?

thats what i thought too, but they don't seem to be there? at least it never put them on my phone when i synced to my gmail account? so all i have with my contacts on is this vcard sitting here on my hdd and i dont know what to do with it?! if i emailed the vcard to myself and opened the email on my phone i wonder if that would download it / open it or something?
UPDATE: It worked! i emailed the vcard to myself and opened / downloaded it with my phone and it saved them all! YAY me!!
So, 1) are you contacts actually on gmail? Use the web to find out, and if not use your old phone to sync them up.
2) is Sync Contacts ticked on the Accounts & Sync screen in settings?

Are the contacts in a Single Vcard? If yes than copy the vcard file to your phone memory.
Open PEOPLE..go to settings...manage contacts...import from phone memory....select the vcard....if there is a single vcard file on ir memory..it will import it,no need to select.
If you have a seperate vcard for seperate contacts, copy all to phone, and same way do import multiple....
Good luck
