Cyanogen 6.1 AOSP Kernels - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried any of the aosp kernerls with the newest cyanogen? Im running a nightly after the newest release its real stable and smooth, but ya know if I'm not tinkering with my phone then I'm not having fun....

I've used Zendroid it seems to work well. Development seems like it dropped off on that kernel though. I'm eagerly awaiting Snap's new release, which I heard should be around the last week of December.
Right now I'm just using the stock kernel though, to be honest.

I appreciate the honesty.

Im currently using bc blend and its smooth with smart ass governor
Sent from my CM6.1 Powered device

BC Blend? I'm not familiar with that one, also I'm familiar with all the governors, except smart$$, whats the premise of that one?

Bcblend is the kernel created for the miui Rom for the evo. Miui is asop so it should work with cyanogen. I'm running miui with Bcblend and I think its the best battery life I've had on my evo.

Which ROM are you using??

I wanted to get an update on what everyone is using for their daily ROM. Mine actually changes daily.....just can't settle with one when there are so many great ROMS available.

Of course, the real question is, which kernel are we using?

It really depends on what you want. For sense based roms, I am particularly fond of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. It's based on the Evo framework, has an incredible development team, and is able to use many evo and incredible options. Just take a stroll through the development thread and check out how many separate threads are devoted to the rom.
Ziggy's kernels, Lou's kernels, and the incredikernels are some of the more popular and widest used kernels, and for good reason. If you can't find what you're looking for between those three, then you won't find it.
Good luck my friend
Thanks a lot bro.... will check it out ASAP and of course miui that rom is just sick all around...

Of course there's always Cyanogen if you like to go 'vanilla'. Version 7 is out (CM7) which is a Gingerbread build. It's really stable and the fastest rom I've used to date.
Check out this thread if you're interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916881
I'm using cm7 nightly #2 with the 2.6.37 incredikernel and it has awesome battery life but I believe the highest overclock is 1113MHz, so nothing crazy but you'll still get great performance
the invisiblek kernel is supposed to be nice too but I haven't tried it
Ive used quite a few different ROM's and I used Sense(less) rEVOlution 2.0 for a few months with great success. However, I just switched to Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3.1 and I must say this is my favorite ROM so far.
I'm loving CyanogenMod 7 with just the included kernel. Fastest ROM I've flashed by far and getting anywhere from 12-30 hours depending on usage. Can't wait for future updates.
If you like Sense, I honestly liked Virtuous and used it for a while. Extremely stable and fairly customizable. Any Sense ROM is likely to drain your battery a little quicker, Rosie is needy.

Myn's Warmtwopointtwo has a very clean feel and i have been running it for a while now. I've also run Virtuous, Redemptive, CM7. Myn's is the best imo thus far. Lou's #9 is great. I just switched to ziggy's beta 12111 and it is a little faster , but battery life hasn;t been fully tested. also Juice defender is a great app to get you through the day.

I have to agree with this quote. I have been running v2.3.1 for a few days now and I have really taken a shine to it. I am running it with incredikernel and it has been 'incredibly' stable and fast. Sorry for the pun, but it was just incredible.
incredikernel is the way to go.
I run SR 3.5 because of stability, clean and fast.
CM7 RC1.5 #5 is stable and fast imo. Gotta give it a go!

I NEVER thought I would say this until a few days ago, especially after the bad experience had with it in February, where I said I'd never go back, but I'm a MIUI junkie now.
It's pretty damn sweet.
I've used MIUI, and Synergy in the past month and I have to say that they're both really good ROMs, but I like Sense too much, so I'm on Synergy RC2.
Eternal Prophecy 6.1 - Daily Driver and give awesome battery life
Kings Nightly Builds - Can't go wrong with King
Honestly I have tried quite a few including some ASOP and I find MikG to be great. I like the fact that it is based off of Sense. I did try ASOP (CM7) and it is fine but I was used to Sense and found ASOP to be kind of buggy and almost always missing something (many times there were fixes and work arounds but would take time and often a reflash to apply).
MikG is defiantly something for you to try. As for the kernel currently the stock kernel is really the recommended one with this ROM but I am sure there will be one developed soon. It is quite fast and includes many features from Sense 3.0. Since the kernel is stock there is no overclocking yet but every main feature is included and it seems quite stable for the modifications that have been done to it.
Right now since so much has changed with the transition from froyo to gingerbread there are quite a few updates that will require a full wipe and this gets annoying but I feel he is getting close to a version that will last a long time.
I guess from what everyone is saying I will have to check out Synergy though. Since I went to MikG I haven't read much about other roms lately and need to check this out!

Most stable 4.0.4 ROM?

Whats the most stable 4.0.4 based rom? I love AOKP and ive been running M4. But im looking for more of a newer system based rom. The battery life from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 i believe is a hell of alot better.

Well you're like one of the only ones with issues. And the OP asked for a stable ROM , not a lame-not ROM. I'm personally running CM myself , just threw a suggestion let him test the waters and pick the best one that works for him.

Another vote for stock 4.0.4. Currently using my own build of aosp. Deodexed, rooted+busybox. Quite stable.
I've bounced around to several of the roms mentioned here and I have to say all of them have been pretty stable. I've used several for over a month, others weeks at a time. I'm on MIUI now.
All are pretty stable. The differences are the extra features and speed. Some stagger while others zip along. I'm sure most work well now. Most will have the same common extra features normal in a custom rom. Most of them look and feel the same after you get it setup.
My problem is I'm getting bored. The roms are so stable and perfect that I have no reason to flash and most devs aren't putting out many updates because of this. Only CM9 and AOKP update nightly. Others go for weeks. I'm was running Axi0m from March 4th. I finally got the itch to switch to MIUI.
I'm waiting on Gummy to release a new rom and Team Bamf.

Looks like CM has more popularity then i thought. Ive ran with 4.0.4 AKOP but it seemed problemmatic to me. I also run francos kernel. And always update to the latest nightly.
Maybe ill give Build 31 a shot again. Im tempted to try CM9 now though. Although i thought with 2nd init roms like CM9, atleast thats what they called them when i had it on the droid x. It was feature filled, but battery life was terrible.
AOKP b31- Francos Kernel
I recently bought my Galaxy Nexus. Immediately rooted it and tried a couple of ROMS. I was looking for stability with features.
I finally installed Milestone 4 and found it stable; however, not smooth or fast enough as 4.03. After seeing all comments in the AOKP thread I tried B31. Have been using it for 3 days with Francos Kernel Milestone 2.
I love the features, stability and smoothness with which the ROM works and have had no FCs or reboots at all.
In my view-If you want stability with a host of features then, nothing better than AOKP B31 with Francos kernel.
All the best with the upgrade.
Bluetooth Problems
Did CM9 and/or AOKP get the bluetooth problems ironed out that I read was introduced by 4.0.4? That's one feature that has to work for me.
Using Liquid Smooth Rom 1.25 - Pretty stable and fast, a lot of neat features ...
Flashed imoseyon leanKernel v3.2.1 but my phone was heating up (Didn't even touch the processor speed or voltage ) now using Franco Kernel (Battery life not good) - Give it a try, maybe the above mentioned kernels might work for you ....
Now going to try Trinity .....

What's the best ROM for the Ding in your opinion??

Soo. I've been flashing ROM's for a while now, well I've gone through a Sanyo zip, a kyocera milano, a ghetto ass "Sawee Pad" that i cant do crap woth really, then i got my incredible and ive gone from cm7 v13 to cm9 Kangs, to Peter Alfonso's Pete_Inc_03_10_12, to few others. The thing is, I really like ICS, but everything I've flashed in some way or another was unstable and I dreaded installing apps or anything else for that matter. So I've been back to cm7 v13 for about a month now.. what's the best overall most stable ICS ROM out there for the incredible? I don't care about fancy schmancy customizations. I want something basic and very stable (or just super awesome thats stable) I would love to hear your opinions, pros/cons. I will be researching most of the night I'm sure. I use my Ding for a lot of things, gaming/movies/music/inet surfing.. just wanna flash a new ROM and wanting your opinions. Thanks

I am on cm9 unofficial. Its highly stable, at least for me and fast too. Am running stock kernel.
Hope it helps you.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
If you keep the stock kernel, they are almost all stable. The different kernels will cause some phone to freeze when plugging and unplugging.
It's hard to keep it all straight but I believe you need a 3rd party video app to record video ( video cam illusions) in most ics roms. Build 38 and 39 of AOKP do not work on the dinc, both cm9's and the new abduction are really smooth. Just flash and enjoy, that's my motto.
Ah so that's why it didn't work. CM 7.2 is much, much quicker though.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA
Well after a few hours of reading, imma try and flash in-sensative minimalist sometime today. I know its not ICS, but it'll do. Imma keep reading and see what I come across, maybe ill try a different version of cm9 and see if I can find something more stable than what I had.
Sent from myAnus using XDA
I've been using Hanger's Abduction for months now. Installed the latest last night and each release gets better. Everything seems to work for me (I don't use the video camera so I can't talk about that). Previous versions there was some hanging when unplugging from charger, and a few random quick reboots. So far so good on latest but it has only been 7 hours...

For all out stability without any misfeatures, CM7 w/ stock kernel. If an alternate kernel is stable for you, then great.
That said, invisiblek's ICS builds are getting there, but there's still some weirdness here and there.
I've heard that the latest evervolv ICS alpha is really nice, and they've got the video camera working -- I haven't tried it myself though. Videocam Illusions just records in MJPEG -- you've got to be desperate for ICS + videocam to want to use that.
Throwing my vote in for pures anthem ROM. Buttery smooth, fast, and stable. Oh, and pretty. only issue I have is that sometimes 3g disappears, and a restart is required to fix it.
Sent from my Incredible using xda app-developers app
I would love to be on ICS ROM as well...but I have some misgivings about it. Even if some ICS ROMs may be stable, from what I see, they are still slower and grab more battery then our GB ROMs. That's a deal breaker right there. I don't understand why people want ICS soooo badly on their Dinc if its gonna be like that. Stable is great...but its gonna hog more battery
I'm on the latest RC of CM7.2 with Chad/Tiny Incredikernel and couldn't be happier. Stable, Fast, and battery efficient.....
I have an extended battery and get the same or better. Dinc accessories are getting cheap on amazon. I can get about 18 he with 3hr + of screen on.

I agree with previous posts about ICS roms having poor battery life. From what I've tried, they do not have anywhere near as many features as cm7. If it is not possible for cm9 to run efficiently on the dinc I hope development on cm7 continues into the future. I run the latest cm7 nightly with incredikernal, v6 supercharger, kickass kernalizer, adrenaline shot and 3g turbocharger scripts. I also updated the radio to the new one in the general section. My phone has never performed better

Battery life is subjective and different people may have different capacity batteries at different points in their lifespan and different usage levels. I for one think it's decent, maybe not as good as cm7 but probably better than the galaxy nexus.
Oh and not to mention different screen types, AMOLED can drain faster than SLCD.

That's what I was leaning towards, thanks. I also am interested in the Touchwiz 5.1.2 rom and ParanoidAndroid, though the latter seems to not be ready yet (phone errors and fc'ing).
It's a little overwhelming coming in as a noob. I'm wanting to put some life back into my dinc.
Would the latest CM9 nightly be the best start? Anything I should know about? Is flashing a new kernel worth it, or should I stick with stock? So far I followed a guide here to get root, but I'm still S-On for now until I decide which rom to go with..then I plan on downgrading to get S-Off, flashing a rom, and updating my radio.

first thing first, get S-Off in your DInc .
idk the best start to try a rom, but maybe u can try an aosp GB which is CM7 or miui.
but if ur very interested in ICS UI then CM9 all the way. there is a lot of CM9 mod such as invisiblek's, abduction, kang's, and others, and there is also a combine cm9 + miui such as miui v4 ics.
its up to you which one u will pick, or ur gonna try them all (like me lol) just remember to make a nandroid backup.
happy flashing rom's

by the way, I was S-ON for a while, flashed an ICS rom, and had to go through ****s to get S-OFF. You can look near the end of scottys guide to see You can be as noob as possible, once u get CWM recovery, its as simple as putting the rom on your SD card, then going into recovery and selecting to flash it. I would recommend tiny's incredikernel HWA RC1

S-off'd and flashed the 7/5 cm9 nightly last night. Wow. Its like I have a new phone.
Couple things. Text input lags a bit. Anything to speed that up? Performance is pretty good overall but I feel like it could be better. Battery life seems to be on par with stock (buying an extended soon cause I'm still on the original battery). I also seem to be running a bit warmer than stock. Will a new kernel help?
