Can someone please breakdown what all of this talk about "PRI" is for us noobs? Everyone seems to be interested in updating their PRI, hence why I ask. I did a quick wiki on PRI but it was much too confusing for me to understand. Many thanks!

From what i got, it should help getting better signal/better 3G speeds. Then again I'm also a noob so i could be wrong.
Well The bounty page explains it all here is a quote
I like others have had reduced data speeds since receiving my phone. I have talked with HTC in length about this and the PRI stores radio frequencies, channels ect. They said while it might not affect everyone it would affect some. This is all based off what towers you are using ect. This was the reason for the upgrade to the 1.40 PRI. I have been unable to come to a solution with the 2nd level tech over at HTC but trying to work my magic.
The PRI stands for Primary Rate Interface, which is used for carrying multiple digital frequencies for voice and data transmissions between a wireless network and the end user

With that in mind, old PRI=pokey internet, new PRI=CheetahNet
Simple isn't it. Just looking at an OP post.
Also I did this PRI update and it worked wonders.
For those of us that rooted our phones with Toast's method or some variant, it downgraded our PRI to 1.34_003. Some people noticed slower 3G speeds and suspected the PRI to be the culprit. Finally as of last night after a long period of not having a method to update, they found it. If you never rooted your phone, this issue doesn't affect you. Your PRI version should still be 1.40_003. Funny part though is that several people are saying that it didn't make a difference. But it is good to be as up to date as possible, especially when it comes to radio software.

AHAH! Now I understand, thanks for all of the input!
I would recommend against fooling around with the PRI.
The following has happened (after trying 786, 3282 - followed directions properly)
1) It seems that my download/upload have switched. Download speeds avg around 150kbps.....upload ranges from 1.2 - 1.5 mbps
2) Last time I tried updating PRI it said my device could not be properly activated - to try updating profile under settings....or to call Sprint if the problem persists.
Good luck...
im more wondering if anyone has found out if just a data profile wipe updates the pri or if it has to be a fulll wipe.
Im not new to the forums here is my problem and i hope someone has some info on a fix. I usta get bad ass speeds on 3g surfing the web and youtube now my net has come to a halt and hangs also youtube. I had used miui for one day to test it didnt like it and i flashed myns warm point two and the net got worse then I tried koni elite 2 no luck even the cm7 no luck with the net speed. I did all the wipes and use amon recovery I have updated my prl along with radios and every thing that i can think of even Hboot no luck went all the way back to stock even got my msl and re activated my phone still no luck with the net even the market drags. It's not my service out here tho cause I checked out a friends evo that lives next door and his is blazing fast still along with everyone else that I know. So here i sit with sprint lovers rom latest update and lead speed 3g. Any one have this problem or a fix. This blows... Any help please.... Again I did do all the proper wipes and proper flashes I have no idea why the net is so sloppy and I don't have a virus cause I dont surf porn or click on ad's.
Have you tried doing the gps fix? Though it only works on sense roms.

Well try to give it a day or two, you may not see it instantly; and if they did throttle, they wouldn't throttle you for that minimal usage.

The wireless wifi when connected to my home router and the net still like lead.
Well on AOSP, its been general that you do experience some data loss for some reason, they're trying to resolve the issue. But you aren't the only one. I don't know what else to do, but if the speeds are that bad, you may want to try a sense rom.

You can try unrooting and taking it to sprint and complain about the speeds and compare it to your dad's and he has excellent speed. But I would suppose that being the last resort.

Thanks again man.
No prob at all man.
Ok so I have seen threads about data speeds and read all of them some time past. My question is. Is there any way to increase your data speeds? Our is that completely controlled by sprint thru the towers? I read somewhere you can delete the throttle file but out only lasts a short time and I never noticed a difference.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Long story short its basically controlled by sprint, or more precisely the technology that sprint uses. I'm not sure if sprint actually controls the speed at which a phone can download, ie throttling, or just lets the towers give to each user what its demanding. You can try to flash different radios and see which one works best for you in your area, or you can look around for different PRL files.
I haven't heard anything about a throttling file, so im no help there. But the actual technology your using (CDMA, Wimax, 1x, etc), as well as how good your connection to the tower is, are the main things that are going to determine how fast your connection is.
Thanks.. thats what I figured.. Just checking to see if anybody had any tricks.. After further searching my data speeds are actually as fast or faster than most. Guess I just wanted more. I have tried different radios and prl not much difference for me thou

Have you tried the Data Profile reset? It may help a bit, as far as the throttling file, it's made no difference at all on my phone.

Not sure when and with what ROM this started happening but my signal drops to 1x really frequently. 3G is always going in and out. Any ideas or fixes? Has this been discussed somewhere before? On train ride in to work so haven't searched threads yet! I flashed synergy a few days ago coming from mikg and before that gingerale..and before that cyanogen! It seems like I've had the problem since moving back to sense from cyanogen about a month/month and a half ago.

Where are you located? Have you had speed related issues?
Sprint has been having issues related to the overloading of towers with the excessive growth of data usage [with the boom of the Evo]
Towers are set to send some phones to 1x when 3g usage is high in order to alleviate speed issues for all.
That could explain your issues.

I live in the northwest suburbs outside of downtown Chicago. I work and commute to the city and I experience it the whole ride to and from home. I will be sitting at my desk and randomly go from full 3G to 1x. At home in the suburbs, my signal is terrible in my house already but I do get dropped to 1x as well. Don't really notice any speed changes besides the normal slowdowns from what I am assuming is the congestion.
That sounds like a horrible way to fix their congestion issues! Is this something they just started doing? Like I said in the first post, everything functioned perfect up until a month or two ago. Also, would they apply that to an area as big as Chicago out the suburbs?

It's not a fix, it's just a way to alleviate some congestion while they work on redoing the towers.
I'm not saying this is what's happening to you but it's likely.
You can try to have the phone reactivate itself. [If I recall correctly that function is in ##yourmsl#]
You can get your MSL here.
You can also try to update your PRL and then Data profile.
Same thing here. I've complained to Sprint several times so now they want me to bring my phone in to be checked so I need to unroot. Ugh

Also, and before you ask there is no logical reasoning for this and even the very knowledgeable technician that recommended it hasn't figured out why it would do anything, you can try going to ##3282# and clicking "view" and then clicking on EVDO and then backing out and trying the internet.
They don't know why that would do anything and no it doesn't make any sense...but that's exactly why I refuse to go into anything related to working on computers...for being logical they aren't logical...at all.
By the way, doesn't hurt to keep your radios updated.
Best of luck.

Haha, I am actually in IT so I know exactly what you mean. I will try that out as well. And my radios were updated and I was actually considering rolling back to see if that caused any issues for me.
Let me correct myself, sorry I never run Sense, it's ##786# then you hit menu and hit reset.
You need to have your MSL. Also, please note that this will erase your /data and you will lose all personal information.
Furthermore, be sure to cancel when it tries to do a check for firmware update.
This honestly may be more trouble than it worth though.
Thanks, yeah I found the reset option in another thread. I reset, hit the prl update, cancelled the firmware check and will run this around town for the day see if I get 1x. I'll post back here later today. thanks again for the help!
Well used for most of the day and so far so good. Saw it go down 1x once on train compared to everytime I unlocked the phone. Let's hope this isn't temporary . Ill post again after the weekend to test around the suburbs and state to state during a trip to toronto. Thanks again!

I had the same problem a month ago. It's the phone. I tried many different combination of radios and roms but no help. Ended up exchanging it. When you bring in the phone just use the android browser to load a heavy graphic webpage which should take forever in 1x mode.
My PRL updated to 61009 and I'm getting horrible to none connections with cell towers. Was wondering if anyone had any PRLs between 61000-61008? or even something around the 60700-60999 area would be nice to try!
If so, I would be greatly appreciative if you guys could share it with me.

And it seems as if that OP doesn't include the 61xxx's.. And it was just updated 8 days ago.. Maybe you have a new one..

Since you guys are on the discussion of PRLs... what would the best PRL be for the Detroit area on the E4GT considering it's not an LTE device (not that detroit even has 4G coverage anyway... >.>')?

Honestly, all I can suggest is read all the prl discussions you can to include other Sprint devices. Just don't expect a magical speed daemon to arrive in your phone. It's about obtaining signal where you may not or other reasons that I'm sure you'll find.
How can you tell which prl is right for you?
Is it just trial and error?

Easiest way for me to answer is go read the op of the link I posted. I think you may be confused on why someone would want to change prl's..
:edit: I see that you're on boost. I don't think this will help you. Mvno's like yours may not benefit from this. May want to research this more before changing.
I'm researching the PRL, but currently mine says default. I'm looking in ==> System / About Device / Status. I'm wondering is that normal. I'm reading ppl have a # on their phone, but mine just says default.
My next post will have screen shots of my phone configuration.
Any help / comments / suggestions are highly encouraged.

Note, I’m still researching about PRLs.
