hey guys quick question. I have my Evo with a rooted ROM on there right now. I believe its Kingdom 3D or something along those lines. I just purchased an Evo 3D and want to sell this Evo as is rooted and all. I tried punching in the ##2382# or whatever the code is to get into the settings to see if it would work so when the person that buys it wont have problems with sprint on the phone and it didnt work. Is there anyway to activate a rooted phone if the ## doesnt work over the phone? I'd hate to go back to stock.
They would have to flash another ROM if ##3282# didn't work.
Leave the thing S-Off and flash a custom 2.2/3 ROM, something not based on the Shift. For example, Sprint Lovers or Azrael or SNS or Warm 2.2.
Oh, and flash AmonRa please. Don't let the person start out with ROM Manager / ClockworkMod

Why? You are selling the phone. The easiest way to do this is to just unroot and return to stock. Its way easier than trying to explain what a rooted phone is to the buyer, and explaining all the problems and bugs that come along with rooting. Plus, if that person would take the phone into sprint to activate it, THEY would get in trouble for bringing in a rooted phone.
How much are you asking for your phone?
I'm gonna sell it for $100. Front camera for some reason just stopped working. I have also an extended battery on it (Not Seido).

So what's the big difference between the two, Rom manager and amonra? Just curious, Noob and using Rom manager.

Rom Manager is an app. Clockwork Mod and AmonRa are both recoveries. People are pretty much split 50/50 on which is the best, I personally only use clockwork, I have never had a problem with it.

No, clockwork and Amonra are both recoveries. Completely separate from a rom and apps. Recoveries are used to flash roms, but they are not part of roms.
Rom Manager is an app that lets you USE the recovery, without actually booting into the recovery yourself. So Rom Manager uses recoveries, but it's not part of the recovery.

Did the camera stop working after you rooted/flashed? Or is this a hardware issue?
I would think it would be best to flash back to stock on this phone, and sell it that way. Let the user root/flash after they activate it.
IM me if you haven't sold this yet.
Hey all.
I'm coming from the fascinate as I accidentally dropped it in water. Just picked up an Incredible and am wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of how to flash custom roms on this guy OR if someone can just verify that pretty much the same process is applicable to the Incredible vs. Fascinate.
I look forward to some new awesomeness from all you guys on my first HTC phone! Thanks in advance!

This thing is out of box stock. I'm extremely familiar with modding and romming on the fascinate but I suspect there are some different processes for HTC phones. Currently on stock froyo and seems there is no update for gb.

Great then all you need to do is run the latest unrevoked from here http://unrevoked.com/#inc. It will get you root, a custom recovery, and s-off. Then your set just download a rom and flash it thru your new clockwork mod recovery. You can get more info by clicking the forever link on the above site.

Welcome to the Inc! I have absolutely ZERO experience flashing roms with any smartphone except the Inc so I can't attest to how exact or different the methods are. All credit goes to the developers of the rom, I did not make these directions. Here is a quick, albeit outdated, guide on some root info if you are new to rooting. Here are two, of likely many, variations of flashing roms for the incredible.
Taken from Nils Business Gingersense 3.5
Download the current version of this ROM from above
Check MD5
Put it on your SD Card
Reboot into recovery
Factory reset on main menu
Format System on mount menu
Flash the current version of this ROM
Boot ROM
Skip everything in settings
Do a *228 option 2 in the dialer
Log into the market - Make sure you skip/uncheck the restore option
Set up but do not restore anything
Install your apps manually from either the market or your SD Card
Let me know how it is running
Taken from Wildstang's Hybrid Speed rom
Installation Instructions
NOTE: I use CWMR 5X. Some wipe options below are not included in earlier recovery versions. Still wipe what is available the best you can.
1. Put Rom on the root of your SD Card
2. Compare MD5 Sum
NOTE: To verify MD5 you could use the program for Windows that I use here: MD5 Calculator
3. Reboot to Recovery
4. Wipe these:
Main Screen:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Advanced:
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Mounts and Storage:
Format-
/boot
/system
/datadata
/data
/cache
5. Install Rom from SD Card
6. Reboot and enjoy!
Note: First boot is really long!
How's this help out?
Edit: Really both Unrevoked 3 and Unrevoked forever are the same. Initially Unrevoked 3 did not previde s-off I believe but this is no longer the case. Unrevoked 3 will do you just fine.
Wow thank you sir! Very, very much appreciated.

I don't want to tell you the wrong information as I've never flashed MIUI but I (with my prior experience of flashing roms) would go about it the same way. If I ran into troubles then I would decide how to proceed. For all the AOSP, Sense 1, Sense 2.0, Sense 3.0, Sense 3.5 roms I have flashed; I would install doing the same way. As for using a cable, you mean for transferring the rom from your pc to phone? I use the same one that came with my phone, but if your Samsung cable fits then by all means try it.
I dont think the samsung plug is the same as htc. To use unrevoked you would need the correct cable.

Nah, I believe Odin is Samsung specific. We use RUU's, again I'm not sure of what "Odin" is. If you want to go back to stock, we use RUU froyo found at this resourceful site. You will find radios, RUU's, and recovery files conveniently accessible and in one spot.

If it fits it should work fine. Test it by selecting disk drive on your phone when it pops up after plugging in the cable, and see if windows can access it. If it can it will do just fine with unrevoked.

Also, is there an official release for 2.3 or is it still only froyo? Because I find no updates for ota...

There are offical gb ruu's and ota's that were pushed to some but then pulled by verizon due to some small issues. However there are custom roms built from it that have been fixed such as jermaines stock+ rom you can find in the dev section. Note if you use a gb ruu make sure you root and get s-off first as it is much hardet to root if your s-on on gb. It actually requires downgrading back to froyo.

(Emphasis by me) The Inc community is definitely a good mix of helpful folks and I've only been here since January.
Quick question after reading far too much.
Have rooted, cooked ROMs for HC 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 on my Iconia Tab, so while I'm not a n00b to droid, I am to Droid phones.
Just picked up a Dinc, and it already has 2.3.4 on it. After reading quite a few threads and pages, I'm assuming at this time I'm SOL for gaining root? Is that a correct assumption?

Did you mean Calk's 1.4?
You shouldn't be using touch recovery with anything for risk of bricking your phone.
And if you're using ANY version of ICS, you also risk bricking your phone if you try to use any form of recovery.

I agree with the first part, stay away from CWM9 touch. Youre asking to get bricked. CWM5-7 recover rogue is fine to use between ICS roms. Always run Calkins format all. And never use cwm.recovery to do a nand back to GB. Flash SFHUBS stock EL29 first via Odin..along with calk's format all prior to.that then nandroid back to your previous set up.

Build a solid ics kernel for us then. Or wait until we get the official release. There is no fix because nothing is broken. All ics roms for this phone are built on leaked kernels.
But I'm sure your post was just sarcasm and you knew that since it's been spoken about in just about every ics rom thread.

I think after the initial issues with the bricking of devices with the 2.1 version they took it off the site.
There was a d/l in the twrp thread in the evo development section before with the version I posted above. I didn't check to see if its still there.
Dunno if you've used it before, but I remember it hung a little at the boot screen so don't worry if that happens.
Is the twrp recovery a good recovery compared to the smelkusmod?
Like ROMs both have plus and minus points. Twrp is faster, has the gui, and some other unique features. Smelkus like the original Amon ra its based off is more stable for our phone, wipes more thoroughly and is tried and tested.
At the end of the day its your choice. I really liked the original twrp 1.1.1, this one is good, I trust SmelkusMOD more though.
Try it out for yourself

I tried TWRP, even though it looks better, it doesnt perform like I wanted. I tried flashing a stock rom for my evo, but it kept saying it failed. On amon ra smelkus mod it ran like a beauty.
So i just wanted to know which people prefer and why. personally i prefer CWM because it was the first recovery i used and it is just easier to navigate in my opinion.
I've tried both on the SGS3. IMO CWM is better on the SGS3, than TWRP.

I started with cwm touch, and really liked it. Switched to twrp when I installed a custom rom (at their suggestion). Now I really don't have a preference. I keep both zips on my extsd, so I can switch to whatever I want to use...

Shortly after I installed TWRP on my Epic, it hard bricked when installing a ROM. I cannot say for sure it was because of TWRP, but when that happened I've never tried TWRP again, and I haven't had another bricked phone. Coincidence?? Possibly.
TWRP FTW
IBTW it had it issues with The Epic 4G Touch but not anymore that a thing of the past.

I'm very new to this phone although not to rooting. Neither CWM or TWRP were good on the EVO 4G. As a matter of fact if someone asked for help or had trouble flashing the 1st order of business was to ditch either of those recoveries and install amon_ra.
Consequently I've wanted to ask this question too and I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread.
TWRP. It's the obvious choice. :good:
Cnexus built a recovery switcher that allows you to switch between cwm/cwm touch/twrp. I say install it, and try em all out
I know the first time I used twrp, I had an issue because if you have it set to check mdsum, it will fail if it can't find one. Simple, but it did kinda freak me out.

Look it up.
CWM doesn't let you queue multiple zips as far as I can tell, so I've been using TWRP.
TWRP all the way, plus you can theme it! The one and only thing that annoys me about TWRP is that the clock is always off -__-
Both are great and different roms need either to work right. But in my experience trwp backs up and restores without error. Clockwork never restored properly on any of my phones from og evo, evo lte or my sgs3. But clockwork flashes radio updates better, at least my reception bar level or data connectivity.

Coincidence, the epic 4G has a bug that caused it to hardbrick when flashing certain roms (memory fault in the kernel or something like that). There was a workaround for this though.
Might as well put my 2 cents in. I have used both recoveries on my devices. I have no personal choice as to one is better than te other issue. I can tell that once cwm was actually fixed and built for the Epic it worked perfectly prior to that when it was first ported over to the OG Epic it was hit or miss, the orange cwm. Oh well my Epic did just fine on both. My Galaxy Nexus works better with TWRP for whatever reason it just does and my S3 prefers CWM again never had an issue with either on those devices but when I use the other recovery on each of those devices they become temperamental and start acting up. I know it's funny but that's what I know of my devices. They are both very good recoveries and they have come a long way since the early days.

So let me ask this: when a rom dev suggests a recovery, is that just because that's what the rom was tested with? Have you had an instance where you've *had* to use a specific recovery (other then one kind working better on a specific phone)?

I flashed a lot of Roms on my epic, yes it could be coincidence, but like I said, shortly after flashing TWRP I was warranting my phone because it didn't make it through a flash. I tried everything including once when odining my epic my daughter yanked the plug out. I recovered from that even by removing my battery and plugging it into the computer. After TWRP, I couldn't even do that. And really I have no idea if it was the recovery, but yeah, I chose CWM.

No makes no difference, that's because that person has a personal liking for that recovery or like I said his device just responded better to that recovery. Makes no difference roms are not built for specific recoveries. Well not always there was an instance on the OG Epic where in order to flash cm9 the phone had to be re partitioned and a special recovery was necessary and the cm team built the recovery flash into the rom. That's another story for a different thread.

Sometimes recoveries don't like certain roms...doesn't happen often, but it can
I know on my EVO Shift, Sense roms could be flashed ONLY with CWM for some reason, as TWRP wouldn't flash it properly.

So betweem you and ed, I should be able to flash a rom with either recovery unless posts show problems flashing with a specific one. And, if I *were* to have problems flashing, I may want to attempt to flash using a different recovery....
