Touch sensitive diode below screen - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have noticed my diodes are illuminating randomly when im move the phone around in a low light area. Is it functioning as it is or did I bricked my phone ? Ive downloaded the 'LED me know' app the other day and uninstalled it. Just wanna make sure.

Can somebody answer me ? Im really worrief

I think there is an automatic backlight setting that is on and when the surrounding lights get dim, the android magic happens. It sounds normal to me. You are certainly not bricked.

Cool, so its normal if my diode turns off when im walking outside under thee sun?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Yes, it's normal. I'm not sure about the G2, but on the DZ the stock ROM seems to be very badly programmed on this, and the backlight can turn off and on almost at random (the light sensor not handling it properly). I think this is something you can alter and setup how you want in Cyanogen's custom ROM.

Glad to know its working normally. Was abit worried, just got this baby 2 weeks back after getting my nexus one destroyed under a car tyre 3 months back

I noticed my htc evo has an issue. I dont know if its a bug... software glitch or what. But yeres the isuue, ill go to lock my phone.... and a text comes in right after, i go to unlock it and nothing. The lcd and sense buttons at the bottom light up. But most of the time i relock it and try to wake it up again, and it does that. It only happens to. Me in the mornings though. And i usually uave to lock and unlock tthe screen several times before i actually see my. Lock screen. It did this to me too when running the htc stock 2. 1 rom. Any tips fellow xda members?
I would greatly appreciate if yu have any info.
Thanks.
are you underclocking your phone when the screen goes off? if so what settings?
also are yo running an auto task killer?
If you are to either of these i would turn them off and see if it continues.
He's helped me alot try and make sure ur sleep profile on setcpu isn't too low. 245 had done lag...if ur even using it

no im not overclocking. nor am i running setcpu cause it drops my phone into a constant boot cycle. The only task killer ive ever used is Advanced Task Killer.
where am i going wrong???
I found out why the screen wouldn't turn on somethings, from dropping the evo, the LCD plugs became lose, and having a cracked screen doesn't fix any issues, so I got it replaced and it always works now.

You didn't think mentioning that the phone has physical damage is important for the first post?
hmm.
Well along with cracked screen....I think that means physical damage from start. Doesn't matter now, I repaired my evolution. new screen and LCD for $40. So its all good now
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Where did you get a new glass and lcd for $40!?! I was looking for a replacement whole top half of the phone, just in case,I have a white Evo and I'm pretty sure that if I break it they will give me a black one :-( Anyways, I have been shopping around and the cheapest I saw was $70, link please
Sent from my White Evo 4G
No link, just got the hookup at sprint. Sprints new policy changed and they replace the outter screen (digitizer) for 35$ flat rate. They inspect to see if it has physical damage inside, if not, they fix for 35 bucks.

Who would want the camera led on for a long time?
I thought Brightest flashlight had duration options.
Sent from the future.
Well I would like more then a minute use....sometimes a minute just not long enough...so I didn't know if it was the phone doing it or the apps.....

If you need a flashlight that bad, you should probably just buy one of those cheap LED flashlights for $15.00 rather than risk damaging the LED on your phone. I thought that using your flash as a flash light for a long period of time regularly could actually burn out the LED because it was not made for that.

I don't know why I totally overlooked burning out the LED. I actually used mine a few times but it was for 30 seconds. I was using Tesla LED

I've got plenty of l.e.d flashlights but sometimes in a pinch the cell comes in handy and it never been on for Max of 10 mins...so please keep sarcasm to a minimum thnxs...

Dont understand why you think what I wrote is sarcasm. It was giving you a generally advice of caution. I had an Evo before and everthing I read about using the LED as a flashlight for more than a mintue or two was that it could damage your device.

"A Word Of Caution
The Internet seems to be split on the opinion of whether keeping the LED lights turned on for more than a few seconds can severely damage them or not but some people advise against using any flashlight apps that keep the light on permanently.
I am not a physicist and I won't be pushing the EVO's LEDs to that extreme of a test, but I think a caution for you, our readers, is definitely in order - proceed at your own risk."
I was only trying to help you out.
I put my phone on the cmcordrr app then put flash on and reduce the resolution to as small as it can get and hit record

Ok sorry was just in a piss poor mood so srry for jumping at ya like that....I had used my mytouch 4g l.e.d flash to do car repairs one night for about an hr and all was fine. If an l.e.d can't stay on for longer then minute or two then why make house hold lights l.e.d and things along them lines isn't all l.e.d the same....

I can't see LEDs burning out unless you really user the hell pity of it. LEDs are popular because of the brightness and reliability. I can't think of a time i've seen LED anything burn out, not that it isn't possible.

Exactly what i was about to say,
If the duration of damage is less than a minute, why are we able to record videos with the LED on?
i use Tesla led as well, works well with widget locker, can turn the led on from lock-screen with a nice slider, pretty sure it'll stay on as long as it needs to, also also has strobe and Morse code functions which are pretty cool.

Flashlight app..
I've always just used the one that forces your screen to full white. I never wanted to risk burning out the led, either. I've found that the full bright white of the screen has always been sufficient for me.. even with my old HTC Hero.
flashlight hd led works great

Broken screen or what?

A relative of mine also owns a G2 but recently they experienced a weird issue. They just picked up the phone just to see that the screen went bad. Wasn't in the process of flashing anything. The phone ran CM7.0.2 for the longest time. It was all black with a white line running across the screen and the capacitive buttons are stilll lit. After a week or so, the white line disappeared and its just a black screen now.
There's no water damage as it went nowhere near water and the water damage indicator is still white. Could the screen be broken? A loose connector? Any help?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
I don't know much about the g2 but try and enter the bootloaders. If they come up then its programming. Something like that happened to my hd2 cuz a bad flash.
If they don't then its prob the screen.

You think just ordering a new screen from Amazon or eBay and replacing it will do trick? And yeah I just thought about bootloader as I wrote the question.

if it ran a long time i would guess a hardware failure (if it doesnt even show up bootloader)
so you need to replace the display.
does the display even initialize when powering up the phone?
when switching the phone on you see its "switching" from black to dark gray (lighter black as it is when powered off)
cause if it doesnt even get power, it could be something on the phone too which doesnt give (enough?) power to the display...
Yeah. but I'd take it apart if u know how just to check

Try to connect with adb just to make sure your phone is still working before you spend money on a screen. Unless it rings when you call it or something.

Normal for S3 to get warm on bottom of screen and back of phone?

This is my 2nd S3. First ones home button stuck down and wouldn't come back up. That phone never got warm at all. I was wondering if this is a normal occurance on the S3. My phone now gets rather warm while surfing the net and checking email for about 10 minutes at a time. brightness is at auto (as was the first one) and all settings are as the first one was. Just wondering if I should do a warranty swap since I am now over my 30 day return mark.
Thank you all
AJ
Mine does the same thing. Most phones will get somewhat warm with heavy use, the S3 seems a little more susceptible to it, maybe because of how it's designed.

Mine will get warm as well. I haven't had it get hot except for when I use it for GPS in my car which is understandable considering I turn brightness all the way up with gps/data/wifi and have it charging at the same time.
Yep perdectly said thats the only time mine has gotten overly hot!

mine gets warm, never hot. I do notice that on this one it is, as I said, towards the bottom. The first one I had never got warm at all. I'm hoping I won't have to go return this one warranty wise. I love the phone. LOL. When I called ATT to ask them the question they said No it's not normal and to return it, then asked if I have heard about the Iphone 5 coming out LOL.
The chipset is in the bottom area underneath the simcard/sdcard slots.its normal for it to warm up.However if its superhot then no......usually massive heat will damage sone sdcards happens all the time at my store.

I have one day left actually on my 30 day returns policy. Should I utilitze this and get a new one? If so does the white or blue make a difference? I hate returning phones!!!
(Update)
This darn thing just got so hot it shut itself off and all I was doing was texting LOL!
AJ
Mine gets warm when charging or both GPS/DATA are on.
Once, I got a "system is too hot" warning when I left it charging under a pillow.
I think it depends on how much you use it...some days, when I play games or watch Netflix for 20 minutes straight, it gets a little warm.

If it legitimately shut itself off while you were just texting because of how hot it got. Return it now.
That isn't normal at all.

[Q] Fuzzy display - eye strain from Note II

So I just received my phone today and as I'm getting it all setup my vision gets blurry, my head feels light, and I start to get dizzy. The only time I've experienced this before was when I tried to use some 22" LCD monitors that weren't setup/calibrated properly. I put the phone down for a while to see if I felt better and sure enough I did. When I picked it back up to start using it again, all of the symptoms came back.
Has anyone else out there experienced this using the GNII? I really like the phone except for how it makes me feel, and obviously I'm not going to continue to use it if it keeps doing that. I'm wondering if I may have a bad phone.
I dont have any of that. But you might want to go into the display settings and play around with the screen modes
Setting it to natural might help
Or you might wanna go to a neurologist to get checked for epilepsy
Last time I experienced that was when I upgraded from Atari to Nintendo... Now I feel dizzy when not using an LCD display...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Your eyes get used to it...its eye strain. get some good rest .it will help
I would be holding it up next to the display model in the nearest store.
