Hey guys.
I've been wondering.
Lately im using my TP2 (unbranded) quite a lot and my battery dies out fast. Everyone is saying that if your battery life sucks you should try to switch radioflashes.
What is your general battery life, what rom do you use, what radio do you use and how much do you use your phone?
Im using the GTX themed EnergyRom LEO 23-build (apr-8)
Radio: 4.49.25.17
I use it quite a lot and if im lucky i squeeze 2 days out of a full charge.

2 days is amazing. With my screen off most of the day I can get 36-48 hours. If i'm on my phone all day and the screen is on I'll get around 24 hours.
And what are you talking about? Most phones I see are lucky if they get to the second day on a full charge.

Yes, actually anything over a full day's use is generally "above average" for this phone.
The best ways you can make sure you get the most out of your battery is to switch off 3G/bluetooth/wifi at any time that you're not using them, and to not leave the screen on any more than necessary (unless it's connected and charging). When I keep those things turned off most of the time, I can easily get up to 2 days (or very close to it) out of the battery...but as soon as I start using any of those more than lightly, a full day of battery is all I count on.
If you do have to use any of those regularly, then flashing a different radio might help...sometimes you'll get more efficient use of the 3G/bluetooth/wifi with a different radio, but trial and experimentation is the only way to know if another one is better for you or not.

I turned off the bluetooth and wifi/3G. Does internet connection for mail/weather and twitter change anything?

Yes, any type of data connection uses up battery much faster, due to the fact it has to broadcast data over the air.
Unless you've specifically turned off 3G permanently, mail, weather and twitter will all switch the 3g connection back on for what they need, and will leave it on (draining your battery) until you manually switch it off again...

I turned it off in the connection menu. It stays at GSM atm. Even when connected for weather updates.
2 days for hard user is very good battery life...
Configuring this thing for good battery life is exhausting. Before root I had done most things listed in this thread : http://www.xda-developers.com/android/tweaks-for-superb-battery-life-in-evo/ and finally achieved pretty good battery life.
After root, I have never been able to achieve this even though the bloatware isnt running, have various tweaks on there for performance, and so on.
Have tried Fresh Rom with stock and Kings #11 and liked it but had terrible battery life. Tried Myn's 2.2 with stock, Kings #11, and Netarchy and battery was not much better. Now running AVA9 (no flashed kernel) and battery is no better. Have tried running setCPU on all these setups and does not help.
Any suggestions? Seems someone will say this rom/kernel combo works for them and another person will say it sucks, don't use it.
I couldn't stick with Myn's because there were too many bugs/errors. If my best bet is to go back to all HTC stock rom w/root then so be it.
.....and yes, I have read through the numerous amount of threads on this topic but no clear combination has been highlighted that I have seen. I use my phone for business primarily so it needs to last me as long as possible. The thought of increasing my phone size with an extended battery is not appealing to me.
I have stock rooted 3.29. I initially did the plug-unplug trick when I got the phone. Then, I turned off always on data, and set email, google accounts, and Sense weather widget to update once an hour. Phone behaves the same as when data is always on, so I don't even notice 3G off when the screen is off.
I get 8 - 10 hours under very heavy use (constant fiddling, email, games, internet, calls, etc),
10 - 15 hours moderate (surfing, ebooks, email, internet),
and easily 18+ with light use (email, occasional light surfing, occasional call)
I have everything the same as before root so with the bloatware and some other things not running would think it would last longer than stock......not!
@greyopaque...what was the reasoning for using stock rom instead of custom? Battery life or just never tried any of the others? Would like to know if your battery life is better with just the stock over others.
Ditto....I am a heavy user and leave everything running that I need. I use the phone for what it was made for. After trying/not trying all different types of roms/battery tweaks/advanced task killers/battery monitors etc., I decided to buy another original red 1500 battery as I don't like the extended battery look either. So, until they come with better battery technology....I guess that would be the career to go into and make some money ;0).....we are stuck with the best phone ever...yet....with a battery life that sucks for those of us that put the phone to the test....have a great day!
Yep...only problem is having to shut the phone off, change battery, then power back on. All the while, missing whatever phone calls come in.
***My point of the thread really isn't the terrible stock battery but the fact that the pre-rooted setup lasted so much longer than the rooted w/custom rom. Why??
I would think the battery life would get better without all the bloatware and other worthless services running all the time.
Once again.. you need to check your apps. Most likely there's something causing a drain.. Try updating to the newest rooted stock roms (3.30). The new kernel is definitely an improvement.
As an aside.. what bugs did you have with myn's 2.2 rls2? I ran it, and it was fine. Now on rls3 beta and amazing rom with great battery (3.30 base).
To be honest, I've never tried anything else. I really like the stock Sense experience... and since this is a work phone, I need it to work without glitches.

Well....hopefully I can hear from some peeps that have used a good amount of custom roms/kernels, as well as the stock one and see what they think.

@eyeballer1......Myn's was just acting weird and I kept getting a "com.htc.bgp" force close that I couldn't fix. Also, I have tried the newest stock rom but it is just so darn plain jane didn't keep it on long enough to test it. As for apps, I have basically the same apps on my phone that I had before root (except for specific root apps such as rom manager, titanium, etc).

Sadly they won't.. That is battery technology.. This world is pretty much stuck where its at and will probably stay there.. Its the one thing that is not progressing that much.. Even from the 50's
That said.. the thicker battery is the way to go.. Only you will know its thicker, and trust me.. ITS NOT THAT BAD! Believe it or not you get used to it.. If its for business, well then a thicker battery should not bother you at all, use it during the day and maybe at night switch back to the smaller one.. You know, for the dates and ****
The thicker battery will be a life savior.. All these battery tricks and tips help, but nothing is going to be mind blowing.. The fact is, this phone is extremely advanced and requires a lot of power.. I just except the fact that I need to be close to a power charger at most times..
I might go ahead and try Myn's new beta with 3.30 and see what happens. Looks as though I need to look deep into what is actually using my battery. I have always used K-9 for email and have heard it sucks up battery, but it only uses about 2% on mine and is the best email app I have ever found.

what helped me the most was wiping battery stats correctly (as per cyanogen wiki, but applies to all roms).
Charge to full, turn off, wipe battery stats. Turn back on, wait till everythings loaded, unplug. Use as normal until battery dies (do not charge at all until battery dies). Recharge fully in one go (meaning do not unplug while charging until full). Use and charge as normal.
This should be done whenever flashing new rom.

The biggest positive jump I have seen in regards to battery life was going from Cm6 to 3.29 ruu stock, then I ur3 to root.
I'm still sceptical that the 3.30 zip update gave any improvement to battery life as I have seen others report. In fact, I almost wonder if I somehow have less battery life now, but it could be in my head. It's almost impossible to approach this issue scientifically since I use this evo all day.

Try bakedsnack 1.8, its the best battery life I've seen on a rom w/o having to make all these stupid tweeks and disabling features on ur phone.

I'm gettin great battery life using vaelpak 2.3 with the stock htc kernel. I imagine most of the custom kernels around are based off of older kernels and while they may have higher "performance" ratings though I have hardly been able to tell a difference between kings 11 or baked speed and battery, I think the newer stock kernel is your best choice no set cpu to worry about, its just simple. I'm personally gettin about 14 hours with almost constant music playing to bluetooth headset, a bunch of browsing, and occasional use of google navigation which is a big battery eater. With just phone and text use after 21 hours I was at 52% yesterday.
ok so i have literally flashed every major rom / kernel and a comination of each. I have found that with minor tweaking most sense based roms get close to the same battery life. some people will argue that this or that rom is best but I would challenge others to truely preform a test on them and i bet they would be suprised.
k-9 is only a battery hog if you have it constantly polling for new emails if you have it set up to scan constantly then it will take a reasonable about of battery life but nothing more then most other email apps with the same settings.
have you tried as was lsited above and recalibrating your battery? I am assuming you are a pretty heavy user from the sound of things. How long where you getting pre root and how long are you now getting rooted? do you have titanium back up set up on a schedule? If so that can cause major battery drain as it sometimes keeps your phone awake.
All in all with the information you provided no one can actually tell you what is wrong. there are to many variabes and everything we say is a shot in the dark hoping to hit common problems.
my best recomendation configure your battery stats as listed above, if you havent tried use the HTC trick (chrage battery for 8 hours turn off phone charge for 1 hour turn on phone unplug it or 2 minutes then turn it off and charge for another hour.)
Anytime you wipe data you wipe your batary stats and it can drasitally impact your phones "battery life".
At this point I'm not so sure my battery or charging device on the phone isn't defective. But, only time will tell.
Currently I am running the newest, non-beta Myn TwoPointTwo and Netarchy 4.2 non-havs. I also ran this procedure (which fachadick already suggested):
1. Phone on...charge until green light comes on. Immediately unplug and turn phone off.
2. Plug phone back in until green light comes on again. Immediately boot into Recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Use the phone on battery until dies.
4. recharge phone to 100%
I'm still on step 3. Will report back after a few days.
I had never heard of doing this when switching roms so hopefully it will help since I have swapped out a good amount lately.
Does anyone know where to get the newest HTC flashable kernel based on the new 3.30 release? All I have found is the rom package.
I've done everything I know to do to help with her battery life. She has a hardware 0003 Evo, the exact same as mine. Both of us have Sprint Lovers ROM with PRI 1.77. I have Netarchy 4.3.4, she has 4.2.2 because 4.3.4 didn't work well on hers. The only real difference between our setups is mine. I have Titanium Backup with most of the useless apps frozen and UltimateJuice with the latest JuiceDefender Beta. I also use LauncherPro.
I've noticed that her device pulls high mA's when discharging. I believe I saw one over 1100mA earlier while looking at something on her phone.
I realize that my setup may be a bit more battery efficient than hers, but her drain should not be as high. She literally has to plug up several times a day, when I can go 2 days on a charge.
So does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to have to swap out her phone.
you should try nets 4.3.2 cfs havs less, or the no havs those are very stable and great with battery life, before you flash fill battery wipe caches and battery stats, flash kernel
Try installing the 4.3.4 kernel again but play around with the versions. Try a less-havs if more-havs doesnt play well. Maybe even no-havs. Try installing juice defender on hers also and see how well it plays out.
Update her PRI. I run the most up to date pri and don't have any battery problems. It's probably that I can almost guarantee it. Some phones work better with different set ups then others. To update you can use caulkins flashable update zip. Its in the dev section in the first couple pages if you don't feel like searching. Just be careful when flashing.

Well, I'm not versed on sense kernels, but perhaps try a less aggressive havs kernel on hers. Does he keep her 3G on all the time, cuz that'll be a battery drainer.
What she could do is change roms, or if she's willing to, try out AOSP.
Calibrate the battery.
3500!! is the answer. You can't do anything with the stock battery. Does she give it a full charge often? My girlfriend only charges were phone a few hours each night and complaines that it dies often... and thats with the 3500... Even if the light is gree and it shows 100% done, its not really done. Let that thing charge for 8 hours straight. Google Bump Charging... that helps too.

Actually, she doesn't, so I'll probably end up doing that. I tried her on CM7 but she didn't like it, gave her more problems than usefulness.
If she's not a big background data user then you should definitely toggle it off. With comparable usage, I typically get twice as much life-per-charge with background toggled off than on regardless of what ROM or kernel I'm running. It's the biggest little thing you can do.

At first my girlfriend had her Nexus S updated to ics and immediately we noticed a huge difference in how long her battery lasted and she is the furthest thing from a heavy user.
So when I heard that ics ws being released for our phone my first thought was i hope that what she experienced won't be what i do as we have a better phone right?
Well I am sad to say on a stock but rooted rom I experience the same lack of battery life as her.
Now I am no beginner to Android and have changed all sorts of settings available and nothing syncs on its own and when I unplug my phone from charging in the morning I will need to plug my phone in at night before bed as my phone will be completely dead.
I have to say I am very disappointed in the battery life of thr the stock rom and hope some good kernels make it out to help.

Have you tried to find out which app/process is draining your battery? Better Battery Stats can help you identify what is using up your battery.
I had a big keep awake problem when i first installed stock ICS on my T989D. I did a full wipe of the phone and formatted my internal SD card (after backing things up of course), reinstall the same stock ICS and everything works great now. Battery life is about the same as before (stock GB w/ Synergy kernel), which is about 30 hours with moderate use.
Try CM 9. I get almost 2 days of battery life.

Though I am now on AOKP, I had great battery life on stock ICS as well. But, everything is subjective. How many email accounts are being synced? Do you have Facebook / Twitter / G+ updating every hour? Do you have news feeds continuously updating as well?
I have to agree with the poster above. Get Better Battery Stats and find the culprit draining your battery and work from there.
biggest thing draining the battery is the screen.
you can literally watch the battery usage drop 10-15% in a period of 10 to 15 minutes which is absurd when its set to low.

Wait for kernel development. Its underway as we speak. It will make a significant difference.
Some battery saving tips:
- use juicedefender and set it to aggressive mode.
- use romtoolbox or other programs to underclock cpu frequency.
- also try using telus stock ics. Very good battery life.

I have a brand new T989D (I'm new to Android, former iPhone user) and got the ICS upgrade the day I got it (9 days ago). Battery life is terrible, I'm lucky if I get 10 hours of moderate usage. The phone also tends to run very, very hot. Sometimes apps freeze and all I can do is either wait or, in some cases, remove the battery to reboot.
I'm open to any tips that will get this fixed! I haven't rooted yet (no time). I think I will try those wipe tools and reflash the stock ICS ROM.

Stock, not rooted, my battery life is great. Something is using your battery up, and flashing some exotic kernel isn't going to change that. The stock kernel works fine. You'll want to find the root of the problem. Keep a real-time (or 1-5s interval anyway) eye on the phone's current (mA) usage, and when it's high for no apparent reason, you'll know that whatever is sucking your battery is doing it right then. That should help you characterize the problem. I've noticed when my WCDMA/GSM radio signal sucks, so does the battery life, so I either turn off the radio or switch to GSM only when I'm in that area. If your display is what's eating your battery, well a kernel can't stop that. Turn the brightness down, leave it on auto-brightness, or just deal with it if you need the display on all the time. But if tweaking and modding makes you happy, by all means...

I have the same complaint. The "screen" battery usage is just unacceptable, especially compared to GB. My phone has been draining from a full charge for ~4.5 hours and my screen usage is 70% and battery is down to 65% with hardly 10 minutes of screen-on time.
I use an app called autostarts and you basically enable/disable apps that start running when certain events happen (phone startup, wifi being turned on, incoming call/sms/mms, other apps turning on, etc.). Just make sure you do your homework so you dont disable something critical. Hopefully this app works on ICS. You'll be surprised what different events make certain apps turn on automaticly. Screen, data/wifi, gps and bluetooth are the biggest battery drainers. No matter what Rom you are on if you don't keep control of those items your battery will drain fast. Keep ur screen on auto, let it go off @ 15 seconds ( you have to be pretty used to your phone for that setting not to annoy you), turn OFF your data or wifi when not in use. With bluetooth and gps...well u know that when you use them your battery is gonna drain faster than normal...just keep that in mind. Its all pretty much common sense.
I'm not going to tell you how much battery time I get cuz its nonsense. There are times my phone lasts till the next day and others Im charging it by sundown. Then again Im still on Juggs n Darkside kernel and Im gonna wait a bit still b4 I make the switch. Also don't go by what other people say on battery life cuz if you might not get the same results on that ROM. Everyone of our devices is unique and acts different. Everyone user uses their phone different. You can't define "light, moderate, heavy" use so don't go by that either.

After upgrading to ICS stock unrooted battery life sucked (5-6hrs). I did the whole remove battery, factory reset and still sucked.
Broke down rooted (still stock), downloaded batterycalibration from play, followed the instructions. Easily get over 24hrs before having to charge again. and when I say easily, I mean I still have over 25% left.
Get a gnex extended....maybe a bad battery

AOKP build 40, latest eugene373 streamline kernel. I went 9 hours earlier it earlier and it was still at 70% You will see a difference!!

Bingo. Vastly different battery life between ROM's is generally BS. Every once in a great while one of these threads has merit but typically someone saying ROM X had "Killer" battery life is clueless and drinking the koolaid. Then a placebo effect takes place. And definitely someones "Heavy" use is subjective. If someone says they get a day out of an android phone they are not heavy users by my definition. It doesn't happen with heavy use. Perhaps the Razr Maxx or another phone with a very large battery but I've had 5 Android phones. If I get past noon it's because I am not using my phone that much and forget about a full day. It's never happened in the 4 years I've used google OS phones. Never.

Yes exactly, I hate when people post screenshots of their phone getting 24+ hours, I'm there thinking "well obviously they don't use their phone alot". There is no way in hell i could get 24 hours no matter what rom/kernal I use. Im just happy when my phone can make it till I get home at night

Well I'm at about 31% and charging.
Any tips on improving battery life? I always keep my brightness rather low, but my battery life is much worse than my Nexus 5's. Almost thinking of exchanging for S5 as the removable battery may help.
This is not a rant or hate thread, I simply want to ask other T-Mobile HTC One M8 users their experiences.
Seriously I'm having to charge once or twice per day. My dad has the M8 on VZW and his phone gets much better battery life, I almost feel like my phone is defective. That or the TMO version uses more battery life.
BTW Wi-Fi is off.

Seriously I'm having to charge once or twice per day. My dad has the M8 on VZW and his phone gets much better battery life, I almost feel like my phone is defective. That or the TMO version uses more battery life.
BTW Wi-Fi is off.

I make it through a full day here, I'm used to the batt life of a note3, so it takes some getting used to. I have bluetooth/wifi on all day, with facebook/g+/twitter/4emails syncing (evy 15min). I used titanium backup to freeze all the apps I dont use or wont use... ie all tmo apps, ant+, etc also use greenify for help also...

Make sure you get Lookout off and try to get rid of it if possible. Nuke Carrier IQ in to the sun. I use Lux to autoadjust the brightness and that seems to help a lot. If you really need help look in to JuiceDefender. I can easily go a day without charging, and I haven't enabled JuiceDefender yet.
Disabling Google Now and restarting helps. Apparently there is a bug in kit kat that hammers the CPU and drives the android ui usage up with it enabled.

Any tips on improving battery life? I always keep my brightness rather low, but my battery life is much worse than my Nexus 5's. Almost thinking of exchanging for S5 as the removable battery may help.

I honestly think it depends on how you are treating the battery and using your phone. Remember new phones get used more initially. You can get an S5 but that doesn't mean you'll get better battery life. Also, please don't take it from me. There are professionals that have shown the M8 to have better battery life than even the Note 3 and S5.
