It would be to your benifit to explain your problem a little mor so that we can help you a better than just a radio build as there may be more to your situation than we know and the you could be back with a no GSM or "briked" device so the more you let us know the more help you can recieve.

Been scouring the net for an hour now to trying to get an idea of what Radio Rom would be best for me, thought this might be a good thread to butt in on
I currently have 1.43 with Schaps 4.30 ROM, using T-Mobile in the UK.
Is there a better Radio ROM out there for me? Any improvements to signal would be nice, especially data seeing as it's my main source for the internet at the moment (just moved, broadband is taking too long to get active )

Well , 1.54 is newer than yours based on the #. It might be worth a whirl to try the at&t dialer and see if it works? you could always go back to 1.43 if necessary

I think that's what I'll do, hesitated after reading a few threads that didn't paint the 1.54 ROM's in a good light, but like you say can always go back.

Just to give my 2 cents worth, I was using 1.54.07 since June 2007, It performed very well for me except for whenever I had no reception for an extended period. Once I returned to an area with reception I would have to Soft Reset else my Hermes would not find a signal again. After reading the recent bad reps for 1.54, I decided to downgrade to 1.43 again. What I have noticed since downgrading is the batt is no longer lasting me as long. Normally I have 60-70% batt life left after a normal day with 1.54.07, now I see only 30-40% batt remaining.

I have a serious Radio Problem...
The battery lasts only 2 hours tops whith the Radio ON, and 3-4 hours in standby.
Ofcourse, the when the Radio is OFF it goes back to the normal consumption rate...
Can anyone help me?

ROM: Official WM6 (3.54.255.3)
Radio: 1.48.00.10

Is there any problem with radio 1.54.07.00 and battery drain?
I have Cingular 8525 and the battery last at most 6-8 hours, with less than 15 minutes of usage in the entire day.
I had the latest official Rom from AT&T, but last night tried Schap's Rom 4.31 to see if there was any difference. But the battery drains as fast as it used to.
My previous device was an 8125 and I could have the device without a recharge for 2-3 days. This one hardly last a days work.

I've found battery life with 1.47 and 1.54 varients similar- they stink if your 3g is enabled and you're using direct push always on. I barely get the day out of my phone when I'm at my desk, not making a lot of calls.
I've turned 3G off and sticking with EDGE, get at least 2 days life.
Right now I've got Schaps 4.31, and Radio 1.47.30.10
great reception, good data speeds, good life, all good. But don't use the 3G unless you need it.

Having tried them all, 1.40.30.00 radio is by FAR the most battery efficient and stable for MS Push email IMO.

Here is a list of all the radios. 1.48 and 1.50 seem to get good reviews, but I cant remember if thats only in the US or if thats UK too...

I have Schaps 4.31 Rom too... I tried disabling 3G and leaving just the 3G. But didn't noticed any difference in the battery consumtion.
I also did a test last nigth. My battery was at 40%, I turned off the radio and the phone) Leave it on my desk without using. 2 Hours later I checked the phone, it was at 10%. I don't get it... the radio is off, the phone is without use, and still drains the battery this fast?

Was the screen off also?
Did you try that same test with other ROMs, and get the same results?
If yes to both of those ...... try running the same test again... but this time hold the power button until it asks you "power down?". Click yes, and now your phone is 100% off and not just in standby.
The likely conclusions of this test are as follows:
If the battery does NOT drain in this state ... you my friend have a bad battery and simply need to replace it with a fresh one (especially if you bought this phone used!).
If it DOES drain down in this state .. you my friend MAY have bad phone hardware or a short in the battery contacts. Clean out the inside of the phone, and (i would) still try a new battery just incase.
You may also want to run that program "acbPowerMeter".
It tells you the CURRENT your phone is drawing. I would say 110-70mA is normal. My phone is pulling 73mA average with screen brightness two clicks in from the right, not attached to charger, and phone powered ON with 3g enabled but not active. If yours is significantly higher, you have some drain in the software. If its the same, it would point to your hardware (most likely battery)

The screen was off. But the phone was in standby.
I will try your other suggestions to see what happens. I'll also try other radio roms. Reading this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933), tests seem to show that rom 1.47.30.10 has good performance.

I did the acbPowerMeter test.
I get around 162mA Average and a total of 21mAh (for 10 minutes)
With screen brightness on the second click (from left to right, the least bright before backlight off), not attached to charger, and phone powered ON with 3G enabled but not active. No other program running except acbPowerMeter.
I tried turning 3G off (leaving just EDGE) and I got 169mA Average and a total of 21mAh (for 10 minutes). Strange that with 3G off got about the same or a little more.
I tried to do the test with the phone screen off (stand by), but it seems the program doesn't run in standby.
Any idea?

I meant 2 clicks in from the right .. so 2 clicks away from full bright is what I ran at.
I think you might want to start a new thread for this problem.
To give you some more numbers to go on ..
with phone on, bluetooth on, wlan on (and mated to router), no data connection, and screen 2 away from full bright .. my phone bounces from 80-115 sitting there with the screen on. Avg is 96 and total is just short of 8 mAh in 5 minutes.
take the numbers for what they are. keep in mind if your voltage goes down, your current will too. so run these tests at full batt.
search for battery drainage and find your problem , def replace the battery just to be sure its good. Personally, I would just sell the phone on ebay if a new battery didn't fix it. Time = money these days.. just get a new one and know its good

Battery life since recent patch update?

I just purchased my inc today, coming from a d2. Iv read a lot about battery life not being so hot in the past but don't see much current feedback. So my question is since the recent patch update how has everyones battery life been, better or about the same? I'm loving this phone but the battery life for me will kill me wanting to keep it, iv been looking at the fascinate to so...

Managing programs and settings will cut down on battery life. The new update didn't see to make the battery "last longer" but it did make it charge much much faster.

So what about 2.2 in general did it really do anything worth mentioning for battery life or does it still suck pretty bad?

Battery life still sucks pretty bad. Only thing I noticed about Nov update was more bloatware and battery charging is about 1% per minute vs the forever and a day prior to update.
Setting screen brightness lower and timeout sooner as well as stopping unneeded apps will improve battery life. Least that's the was it seems to me.

One big win on my batt life was choosing an undervolted kernel, like hydrakernel v0.5.

hydra kernel is your best bet, the only thing I can say is to monitor your 3g. turn it to mobile always-on, turn that setting off. its in mobile data in settings, wireless networks.. this will turn 3g off while the phone is sleeping. I get 2 days easily with this method with the stock battery.

I mght have to try that advise out then. Iv read about the data always on thing, my only concern was receiving email and then vvm (I use g voice). But I already rooted just have to read up on everything a bit more, HTC and MOTO are two way different areas when it comes to rooting it seems.

[Q] Battery Drain Since Moving To Stable?

Hey there,
I was using the CM7 nightlies for a while, and the battery life was great. However, it seems like ever since I flashed CM7 Stable my battery life has went down. The part I'm finding odd is that it didn't even last 12 hours today and I barely used the phone (especially in the first 8 hours since I was at work). As well, the battery usage shows Cell Standby and Phone Idle combined using over 85% power, which I've never seen before. I want to say it might be some of my apps, but they're the same ones I've been using. In case it makes a difference, here's my setup:
LauncherPro
Trillian
Clock/Weather widget from Fancy Widget
SetCPU on "conservative" setting
Gmail, Facebook, Messages widgets from LauncherPro
Power Widget
Score Mobile widget
None of my sync settings are really frequent, most are hourly refresh, another is 30 minutes. And since I haven't had this problem before CM7 stable I'm still thinking maybe it's something with the ROM.
What I'd like to know is if I should try to calibrate the battery first. And if that's the case, what is the best method to calibrate the battery so the ROM is reporting it accurately.

Which radio is that?

Always flash at 100%. Then use your phone at least 4 days, as in 2 complete cycles of using until you have to charge it again. Do not change your radio unless you are absolutely confident about the things you are going to do. Chances are you have a custom rom which does not match the radio you are trying to flash, resulting in a expensive ¨presse papier`.

I appreciate the caution, but the current radio I have is the version that Virtuous recommended to update to. Is there a more "Cyanogen-specific" radio?

I got the stock radio and it's working perfectly. 28hours of uptime with ease (and everything on, incl pushmail). No GPS issues, good reception and no static in the background.

when you say use your phone for 4 days (2 completely cycles) until you have to charge it agian... what do you mean exactly? i need to charge mine after like 8 hours...

What I mean is that you should, after you flashed a new rom, drain the battery at least two times and charge it again fully. Or charge at 100%, flash and wipe battery stats after flashing to speed this up a little. Point is, there is no definite daily use. You could (usually not) notice a very small difference in batterydrain after flashing, but be sure it's not because of Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS or some other thing which is accidently turn on. That's why I said to use the phone for 4 days, and 2 complete cycles. I do not use my phone as heavy as you seem to do. Furthermore, I take care not to turn Wifi, Bluetooth or GPS on when I do not need those functions.

Best Rom Out Currently (Battery life)

Download and install the unamed from via the development section and definitely donate if you can. Unbelievable battery life and quadrant reaches 3600. To maintain great battery, hopefully you have wifi, turn off your 3g and 4g and don't have email, contacts and pic uploading active in google sync.

In other words, if you don't actually USE your smartphone as a smartphone, you will get fantastic battery life?
I'm just being a smartass... I like Unamed! Although with ALL the custom ROM's so far, I seem to get better battery life on rooted stock kernels than any of the modified ones!

i feel you but if you aren't a frequent email recipient or know you're not going to have notifications on social networking a bunch, adjust your settings and data to have efficient battery. even with those things on, i get like 16 hours which a more than enough. having your radio (cell network) on when you have wifi actually uses more battery so just shut it off and use wifi which is less of a data consumption monster (battery drainer)

I have all my syncs active, 2 e-mails, 3g all the time and easilly get 24yr use with 3-4hrs screen on with Caulkins. Why would i criple my smart phone by dissabling syncing contacts and such to get 22hr use? If i loose my phone it wont have it all backed up. I get 48hr easily with 2-3hrs screen on time......

I am using Blazer EK02, and the battery life os 24+ hrs consistently with normal use on default rom settings, and WiFi/3g/GPS/sound/sync (3 emails + 1 Exchange email), and lots of background apps running intermittently (TB, auto updates, etc) with maybe 2 hrs active screen time. This is 1.5x longer than anything else I have run under same usage. I do use low vibrate and no tactile sound feedback.
I will be trying out Blazer, Caulk and Unnamed once they are final and report back. The only true test is same person, same phone, same use, same bat calib process anyway.

After spending the weekend trying various ROM's, I've determined that stock (rooted) EG30 gives me the best battery life. All the EK02 and EL13 ROM's drain a lot faster.
With my normal use on EG30, I have about 75% at the end of my work day. I have under 60% on the updated ROM's.

I didn't say you should do anything. I share what I've done to get what I have. Not syncing contacts all day doesn't cause you to lose them... your contacts are always sunc via Google.. Gmail. You only need to sync once and then manually sync it if you add a contact so It saves to you Google account.

Bro the totally stock is the best battery life for me as well. I just like the extra snappyness of a good optimized rom like Caulkins. Stock i got 5-6hr screen on time consistently. But sacrifising 1-2hr of screen on time for a rom thats all Modded up and i have flashed themes onto and can hot apot from and all that other stuff if so worth it in my eyes. But ya, totally stock cant be beat in my book as far as battery life ia concerned

I hear ya, i just like to have it auto do it all so i dont FORGET to synce contacts or something like that. Lets say im drunk at a bar and get a nice Dime Pieces number and my drunk ass drops my phone in the toilet once i get home. I want it to sync so i can still have cutties # haha. But ya i know what your talking about OP. I just dont go that rout cauae. Im forgetfull and wont synce things for a few days and woyld wonder why i havent gotte. E-mail forgetting i dissabled it. Besides some times you get those ones you want to respond to qyick. Like some one buying the 25" monitor im trying to sell on Craigs list fir half price thats brand new. Oh yes feel free to hit me up if you want a sick monitor

I think blazer 2.0 on eg30 modem gave me the best battery life so far. El13 modem and blazer 3.1 is not as good as my previous setup I mentioned.

I hear ya. I love the 1x mod in particular, but losing 20-30% of my battery life (at least the way I use my phone) between charges isn't worth it.
Using hotspot is nice, but Wireless Tether works just fine for me, too.

I've experimented with few roms during the past couple of weeks and so far. While they all gave great standby time, Blazer 2.0 gave me the best battery life as far as screen-on-time. (3 hours 50 minutes of screen on time)

Phantom's Blazer 3.1 version. I've always had great battery on it, but on the latest one it's even better. I have everything syncing because I do want to use my phone and not have it be paper weight.

Nice, I've been wanting to upgrade to 3.1, but I am waiting for Phantom Hacker to come out with the ICS theme for it. In the meantime, I'm giving UnNamed v2.0.1 a test drive...can't speak for battery life yet but man its fast and the ICS transition animations looks real nice.

2g/3g/4G Juice defender beta

Anyone use this from the market?
I wanna test out the 2g/3g/4G mode but it's giving me a warning that it could break my data and not able to be restored so I'm too chicken **** to test it.

There are plenty of nay-sayers, and no doubt you'll hear from them here. I wouldn't argue the experience they've had, but then, I don't see why they argue mine (and other happy users).
I had terrible problems with battery drain on my Epic 4G. I had a lot of crap running, keeping the radios alive all the time with little junk that was just fine updating in bursts every 15 min. when JD wakes up the cell radio for apps to do some traffic.I'm also not OCD enough to remember to turn my wifi on and off.
Anyway, with JD and my configuration, I sip electrons. Take JD away and... not so much.
Put it on the GN and it seems to be working just as well if not better. I see threads full of people complaining about battery life -- I'm easily getting a day and a half out of mine with moderate use (maybe 20-30 min total talk time, some internet, YouTube, 20 minutes of gaming, and other typical usage). Sitting on standby, I lose about 1% and hour.
When configured properly, I find JD helps a lot, chiefly by automatically managing the radios. Worth it.

But do you specifically use the 2g/3g/4G toggle or do you just have your profile set to turn data off?

Yeah, sorry I wasn't more helpful about that. I only answered your first question
I don't use the specific toggles. I just turn data entirely on and off. I didn't see the benefit of switching specific data modes.
Yes, 3G uses less power than 4G, and 2G less than 3G, but OFF uses the least!

Haha np, I just like to be able to get my emails and mms etc.. At all times.. But hate leaving 4G on..
Just thought it would be perfect to have a profile to turn it to 3g or 2g like 30 seconds after the screen goes off..

Juice Defender is, without a doubt, the worst app I've ever paid for.

I had problems with JD on my SGS but it seems to be working much better on the GN. Stops the battery from draining while I'm not using the device. The main thing I'm using it for is controlling WiFi by location. I only have a few apps enabled with the screen off so it shouldn't be using a lot of data.

Agreed. Such a waste.

I will third that motion. Had nothing but crashes and battery pulls on my SGN. Once JD was removed phone ran smoothly again

I may as well weigh in with my view on this, as an agreement with both sides. When I had JD Ultimate loaded on both stock and custom ROMs on my Gnex, I undoubtedly saw battery life gains when the phone was idling, and they were significant. However, far too often I would go to unlock the phone, and the touch screen would be unresponsive and I would have to battery pull. Not once has this happened without JD running. A couple of times a day with. So it worked for me, but the instability that came with it was too much to bear, so I uninstalled.

Yea I know it's possible, but I just like that JD manages so many things for me, like auto-brightness, radio schedule or that it automatically enables WiFi when I get home and disables it when I leave and can do the same with Bluetooth if I wanted.
Surely I will uninstall JD when I loose interest in its advantages or when I find a different app that works better for me or when I simply get bored with it.
I only had to pull battery once since I installed it, which is not that bad. If it starts to annoy me, I will get rid of it. But so far it's ok.

My issue is that I don't want something controlling my phone. Too much control. I can all those things myself if need be. Isn't that the whole purpose of Android phones? To have control?

Sounds like the solution for you is simply not use JD.
For me, the solution is to use JD to let it manage some boring things for me so I can focus on other more interesting stuff.

Except never had a crash or lockup, never had to pull battery.
I'm a flash maniac, hacker, and mod extensively. I run a lot of crap on my phone. JD does a great job managing things automatically so I get great battery life.
That is, JD ultimate... the free version is way too limited.
Only problem I've ever had is JD bring really slow to turn data on when I wake up the phone, after its been running fora long time (like into the second day). Fixed by stopping and restarting JD most of the time.
Rarely happens because I reboot at least once a day for one reason or another.
Arguing over whether JD is "great" or "crap" is so juvenile. The fact is it world great for some, not for others. This speaks to configuration differences, not JD. Is Supercurio's voodoo sound crap because it doesn't work on some configurations? Of course not.

To offer a different perspective, I don't consider something for which I control the parameters to be "not under my control". I'm not seeing how JD's behavior is any different than the phone automatically connecting to a wifi AP if you leave you're wifi on without you explicitly telling it to connect.
If JD simply enabled some vague power savings through turning the radios on and off, without knowing exactly what triggers the control, I'd stay far away from it too.
Sure, its turning radios on and off, etc. -- exactly as I've instructed it to. I'm in complete control.
