Seriously, can we not have a million posts about porting android to WinPho 7? Go buy a mytouch 4G or a G2.
If/when it does ever happen then trust me there will be an announcement.
So please please please let me get what I want this time.
Anything is possible but what would the point be? Nearly all of the HTC Win7 phones are just tweaker versions of existing Android devices.
Man, what's the point?
You want Android, you buy an Android phone. Or buy a HD2 and run robot OS from storage card. It makes way more sense because:
1. HD2 is almost identical to HD7 save for the OS and a few details of design factor. Same screen size and fire power.
2. HD2 is now cheeeeeap.
3. Except for Android, you've also got a good line up of other OSes to run on the machine.
4. You don't have to pay for a not free OS that you are not planning to use. A penny saved is a penny earned.

For what? Androids garbage. If you want an Android phone so bad, go buy an Android phone. WP7 is fine by itself. If anything, id wanna see Ubuntu on my HD7. Certainly not crap like Android tho.

Hello,
I'm going tomorrow to buy a new phone.
I thaught at first to buy an android phone (galaxy's) but I regretted because I dont have too much time and power to deal with the phone, to make changes to maintain the phone all day, that's why I understood to buy WP7 Phone.
The phone I want to buy is the HTC MOZART.
What I wanna know is:
1. there is some way I can change the keyboard to Hebrew? (not application..).
2. Is it expected that the WP7 will be in Hebrew interface soon?
3. There is a way to download apps and games without paying money?
4. Generally do you recommend the Mozart phone and the WP7?
Thanks alot!
Tal.
“There is a way to download apps and games without paying money?”
You can either develop them yourself, or you are in wrong place.
And I think number 1 is not possible at the moment. Go for Android, fits to you better..

IMHO htc has sorta not made the best wp7 devices this iteration but probably next iteration will be better. But if the mozart is available, it has a better camera and build quality is okay
1. Not right now
2. I think Microsoft said that with the Mango update there will be like 88% more language support/world coverage
3. Um really dude? There are plenty of free apps to download.
4. Not sure really. I would recommend the Omnia 7 or the Focus
actually, there are hundreds of FREE apps on the Marketplace.
for screen size - go for HD7
for camera - go for Focus or Omnia 7
for a toy - get an iPhone (jk!)
You can also make use of www.gsmarena.com compare tool to see the specs of the ones you like side by side
When the Mango update will be released?
And what you recomend for me, the android or the wp7?
Do an extensive research. Read reviews so you will know what you want. Nobody here knows your need. We have different opinions. So best advise is for you to make a research. I did that for several weeks. For me, i was suppose to get an android, but i fell in love with wp7's UI. I even tested an android rom to know what it feels like. But that's just me. Other people have different views, and so do you.

Mango should be here in Aug/Sep.
I highly recommend WP7 over Android.
If you want Android, find an HTC HD2 and flash it with Android. That's about the extent Android is worth in buying hardware. Android is excellent in that context. It's just not excellent enough to buy Android-specific hardware.
With WP7, you will need to wait a few months for it to be fully featured world-wide. But once it is, you will have the best there is.

Agree with avoiding overpriced, overspecced handsets with an OS on them that performs like it's running on hardware from 2 years ago (or worse, in some cases).
Is it possible to get rid of WM7 and install Android on HTC surround?
Yes, take it back/sell it and buy an android phone.

As long as there is a good variety of apps available then its no problem.
WTF why doesnt WP7 have flash??
You would really be better off just going with an android phone to start with because buying a surround then hoping for a port is just going to give you months, if not more of frustration. Is that worth saving a bit of money for? Buy android, it has flash, lots of apps, several form factors, no need to by a wp7 device then do without the features you want.

This.
All trolling aside. Android has a large selection of quality devices that you will be able to find off contract for a reasonable price - with some patience spent looking on ebay. If you want Android, buy a phone that was built from the ground up for Android.

I know some are trolling , Android has more free apps , just buying it for the speaker , but isnt there any possibility to install android on it ? like dualboot?
Why not just buy an phone with Android? Ported ROMs usually have tons of problems.
Keep wp7 on it Android is un secure and was built with stolen code

I can't imagine because I don't believe the surround is very popular hardware. Since those mods are usually pretty hardware specific, those types of mods are usually only made for more popular devices.
Alright but will there be any browser available for WP7 that supports flash?

no there's not as we've clearly stated. You would have to have access to the bootloader which only one person has done by accident and it bricked their device. You would then have to pretty much rebuild the entire phone from the ground up code-wise. It is possible given months, maybe years but no one is going to spend 1/10th that time on such a terrible phone. The os is the only redeeming quality about that device. We are not trolling, you came to the wp7 forums and asked about putting Android on your device. We informed you it could not be done and told you our opinions of the idea... Sounds like a thread to me... You're just hunting for a yes where there's none to be had.

at this point in time no. That is not Microsoft fault. That is Adobe.
^ How is that Adobe fault? Please clarify, as I am truly interested.
Adobe s not created a version of flash for wp7 a new version has to be created for each os that it works on. Not that it will really matter after html 5 but Microsoft has nothing to do with building the program.
even before WP7 was released, both MS and Adobe said jointly that they were committed to bringing flash to windows phone. I believe the hold up is in agreeing to an implementation that would satisfy both companies (for MS, it's implementing it without a compromise to speed or security, and for Adobe it's being feature rich and fully functional).
Go buy a Android or a iPhone.
Anyone know if someone is trying to run android on a phone windows 7 (samsung or hd7 Hdt.)
Please would be ideal, Windows Phone has almost no apps, no flash player and also of other faults.
Please I'm a volunteer to test on my phone.
Someone who has the courage to modify.
why? Man, there is an android device on every single carrier at almost all prices. I can understand iOS on android (even though thats not possible)...but there are just so many android devices. I'm sorry, but for this one, I'm just gonna have to say "if you want android, but an android device."
And if you put it in perspective, android on these phones will just be like its android counterpart. A samsung WP7 should perform like the galaxy s phone and an htc device should perform like the Evo or N1. Performance is not that great when compared to WP7 so you'd probably hop right back on WP7. A port wouldnt be as smooth as the original (at first) so it'd be like a double whammy.
stop trolling and buy a fu**in crappy android phone !
Why the hell did you even buy WP7 ??
I'm not sure if you're just trolling or remarkably stupid but either way you're wasting your time.
Please I am not offending anybody to start and secondly then if there is celphones in each company and is not necessary because I modified the HD2 .

Here is a proper response:
Which phone do you own? You said HTC HD7 or Samsung.
If you do not own either you are better off buying an HTC Desire HD. It is nearly identical with slightly better hardware and actually is made with Android on it.
If you have a near mint condition Samsung Omnia 7 send me a PM if you want to sell it.

While I'm sure people take your question as trolling, I think it's a semi-legitimate thing to ask on xda. The short answer to your question is no. It's not worth the time and effort to try and port Android to these devices. Android is available on virtually every carrier in some form, and most of them have higher-spec devices available. It would simpler to go buy one of those if you want Android.

I really want a Windows 7 phone but I don't want to abandon Android altogether. I was wondering if I could flash WP7 on my Evo and tinker around with it?

Just keep android... WP7 isn't that great anyway. Android is way more powerful and easy to use and a WP7 port wouldn't be fully functional anyway.

Why would you come in here and tell him, "Just keep Android. Don't worry about WP7." If he's like any tech enthusiast, he probably likes to tinker and just experience other operating systems and setup just for the sake of experiencing them. Hell, I do this all the time with computer operating systems.
If he wants to try out WP7, let him try out WP7. Don't tell him, "Just keep Android."

Well Put, #CoSign
Just like you stated your opinion, I am free to state mine. Personally, I like android. I like the custom ROMs available and I use them. As someone who came from WindowsPhone to Android I would not want to go back. I didn't mean to sound like I was against tinkering, it was simply my opinion on that specific subject. If they want to port it then fine lol. I won't try and stop them.
Here is the link to one of the themes available anyway:
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&feature
Here are a couple of threads that were for a WP7 Port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214061
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813184
And that is probably as far as it will go.
I do love to tinker and I really think I'd like a windows phone, I just don't want to buy one without playing with it for a week or so to make sure it's a worthy purchase. Perhaps I'll just wait til my contract is up and try a windows phone for 30 days...

I know a few people that have WP7 Devices and they seem pretty satisfied with them as far as functionality. The OS is closed source though so there isn't much in the way of tinkering. At least not legally. I like the open source code of Android although that is getting too controlled now also by companies like HTC that don't want to allow redistribution of their software. Anyway check out the links I posted in my last comment. The theme from the market is kind of dumb but the other threads I've linked to may be of some help because even though they're old threads some posts in them point to other places where development may be going on currently. I hope I have been more helpful with this post and the one before this than with my first one lol.

Essentially because there's little call for it. The upgrade from Winmo to Android/WP7 was drastic and you could have a high end device on any of the 3 OSes by porting it. If you ported android to the HD7 you would have paid as much for a low-end android device as you would for a mid-high end WP7, it's illogical and stupid and thus there's no call for it.

The main reason is because there is no interest in doing this. And the reason for that is because there isn't anything wrong with WP7 as compared to WinMo. The reason the HD2 got all that dev love was to get away from WinMo on a superphone. WP7, though, happens to be the best mobile OS ever invented. So there just won't be as much or any interest in hacking the HD7 just to put an inferior OS on it.
see all
first must say ThanX 4 all
i want know only why the HD2 have all OS Rom
Y there is android rom for HD7
WP7 VERy Good
i can't say any thing

I can never understand this response. I had a sdand/wp7 hd2 until it broke, and it was replaced with an hd7. I like wp7 better but android offers more functionality and has a lot of apps/games which are unavailable on wp7.
I loved the option of switching OS' at a click and I can't imagine there aren't many others just like me. The truth is that I spent much more time using android than wp7 when I had the choice of either.
I just bought a galaxy note so ill be saying adieu to wp7 for now but I seriously hope I can dual not wp7 on it.
