[Q] Help! Installed israelpack - now everything in Chinese fonts - Defy General

Rooted Motorola DEFY (2.1) and installed israel pack (in order to display Hebrew fonts) as described in several places on the site. Selected only the fonts option. After reboot, everything is in Chinese fonts. How do I get out of this? I tried to uninstall israelpack but the buttons have text in Chinese so I do not know what to click on.
Need help badly!
Thanks

Update: somehow, after rooting the phone and installing israelpack, I got some malware into the phone - everything was displayed in Chinese and ads for new cars were shown at the bottom.
In my attempts to restore defaults, I also unplugged the battery and ... the lovely English fonts came back!! And when I go to a website with Hebrew text, the text is displayed correctly.
All in order now but I wish I knew what malware was installed and how to get rid of it FOR GOOD.

Chinese? sounds interesting!

Stuck SMS since upgrade to black 2.0

Hi all,
Firstly thanks to all the hard working people that bring us upgrades to the OS on our phones.
I was running the LVSW 0408 version for a week without problem. After reading the vote for the best WM6, I decided to switch to Black 2.0.
I have noticed that I have a new message stuck on my Today screen and also 1 unread message in the Text Messages folder, but there is nothing there.
I tried the "Clear Text messages" option and empty deleted items, but no luck.
After a heap of searching I found a thread that suggested to install clearnotify_878.zip, but this did nothing. I cannot even find the application, although the system says it is installed. I did do a soft reset after the install
I understand this is not a major bug, but it is annoying. Has anyone got a fix ?
Thanks
Mal
I think there's a reg entry that you can tweak to rest it.
otherwise I recall this thread
Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried the fixureadcount.exe and it did the trick.
I am now back to being a happy wm6 user.
Thank you

[Q] Chinese Language Causes "andriod.process.acore" crashes

[Problem Located]
As the title says, I installed a patch to enable Chinese language. When I selected "Chinese" in the language setting, a dialog poped up complaining "andriod.process.acore" crashed.
I have tried installing "more locale 2" and same issue happened.
Could anybody help me?

Don't understand. What's is "penpower"? Why do I need to install that?
Could you explain?
I properly found the root cause of this issue. It may cause by the content of my contact. There maybe have some invalid characters in my contact and once I enabled the Chinese language, the system crashed. Once I switched back to English, everything went well.
My solution is to delete all my contacts before enabling the Chinese language. Now the system is ok. But another problem came. I can't sync my contact anymore. Everytime I clicked the sync button, the phone did synced but nothing happened. No contact is synced to my phone. What's wrong? Maybe cos I deleted all contacts on phone and the system still though all contacts were already synced. Can I force to dump all my contact to phone?

did you manually delete the contacts by long pressing and selecting delete? if you did, it deletes them from google too..... you should just clear data in contacts storage..... also why not just use an asian rom that uses chinese by default? maybe that will solve some of your problems

Firstly, yes, I did exactly as what you described.
Secondly, yes, I should flash with a asian rom then everything would go away. Actually I used a latest stocked rom and did not check if it's for asia pacific or not. Now I don't want to re-flash asia rom since I have already installed a lot of apps.

you could do a nandroid backup in recovery, flash an asian rom, then use the advance restore feature to restore your data and ext partition, giving you all your apps and data back and if it dosent work you can always restore the whole nandroid and get your old rom back as it was. either way you can find a custom asian rom with apps2sd ect here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789058
and for future reference, to delete contacts without removing them from your google account, go to settings>applications>manage applications, find contacts storage and click delete data

[Q] Market on Defy? How?

Hi All,
After having HTC Windows mobile phones for quite a few years, i've gone to an Android Motorola Defy.
Its frustrating for me to get used to, I love the idea of Cab files and the simple installs. The .apk system seems to be the go, but my question relates to the Market.
Is there a market app for the Defy? If so is there any reason for it not to be there from the start?
I setup a google account, but there isnt a market in the launcher, i have been through searching for the vending.apk which another site had said was the market installer.
Tried downloading a market.apk file but it has a parsing error...
Used astro file manager searching everywhere for anything i thought could work.
What do i need to do?
Any info/suggestions welcome!
Cheers,
Nathan.
thats strange, what rom are u using?
Its a stock rom, literally only got the phone today!
From the about phone details
moto_version.2.54.0.mb525.Retail.en.ME1
firmware version 2.1-Update1
Kernel 2.6.29
I thought it was odd to be honest.
My mates HTC Desire worked out of the box...as many others seem to.
Ok,
I think i found a way round it, after a bit more searching i found a vending.apk that works on this rom.
Heres a link in case anyone has similar probs, there is an Apk file in the zip file in the system/app folder, running that on the defy it had an error on install but closed and restarted and all appears ok!
http://www.mediafire.com/?qacks5flbor595z
Correction, - all appears ok, but after trying to install one or two apps it comes up with an error.
the application market (processcom.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly please try again. (Force close)
this is a bit odd as it browses and does everything as normal untill it begins to download then crashes.
thats the first time i see 2.54 build
I thought 2.51 was the latest official
It seems that hard to know whats going on with it all the motoblur stuff and the customised roms, thats what i hated about the Xperia X2 with sony ericsson not releasing any substantial updates.
Most of the Defy's in Australia are the telstra next g (850mhz/2100mhz) I got a (900mhz/2100mhz) for use on Vodafone, and if i change to optus it will work on that.
I wouldnt mind seeing a Telstra version close up, might try checking them out at the telstra shop and see if they have the market.
Will keep mucking round with it, won't be long and i'll flash a new rom.
now thats strange ... any Android phone that meets google's system requirements, should have a market app "out of the box"...
Tried a few attempted solutions including a market enabler apk but no luck..
Anyone have any clues what i can do??
Very weird! I have never seen any android device without market app out of the box. Have you tried a reset to factory settings? Do you see the Market app in Settings--> Applications--> Application Management? (The translation may vary because I use defy in my native language).
the latest unofficial froyo v3.4.3-3 UK Tmobile Blur also not include market app

If you do find it listed here you may be able to use it with an app like "Better Cut" by creating a shortcut for it. Of course, you have to find a way of getting that app onto your phone, such SD card etc.

Narf, where did you buy the phone? I see complaints from some users about the same issue and when they called the manufacturer (in two cases from a Samsung forum) were told this:
"I spoke with Samsung tech support in the UK and based on my IMEI they determined the phone was grey market imported from the United Arab Emirates where the Market app was not installed. There was nothing they were prepared to do to remedy the problem. I'm returning the phone to eXpansys UK now. "
"Have just finished speaking to Samsung and based on the IMEI and firmware the phone is also from the UAE and they are unwilling/unable to support it. It was purchased from http://www.crescentelectronics.co.uk"
Quotes came from here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android Market/thread?tid=378157a41cd6df08&hl=en
In one post on this forum a UAE user was able to get market on his phone by changing his IMEI number.
Adding Android Market
Hi,
I don't know the specifics of you ROM version but like you, my Defy (on stock Froyo from China) did not have an official Market installed on it.
But I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896312
And I could easilly install the official market without any rooting needed and just by placing the update.zip file on my SD card and do the update by re-booting with Volume DOWN and power ON...

edit:
- controls are a bit weird on that mode: you have to press the volume up/down to select and the power key to accept.
- clear wipe the cache and the other option (can't remember the exact name of the 2 but it's clear and reset everything) after the update is successful and reboot your phone normally and you should now have the Google goodies [although google map is not the latest version available ...but probably updateable...].
Let me know if it worked! You can hit the "thank" button if it does ;-) [but real credits to the original guy on the link posted above]

Worth a try on yours...
Good luck!

[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard install

Hey, I recently used the method for installing a gingerbread keyboard on my Desire from here: levelx.me/technology/android-technology/android-2-3-gingerbread-keyboard-for-htc-desire/
however after following the instructions it didn't appear in the menu's or if i tired to long press to select input method. It also messed with all my icons and widgets, totally removing my music widget from my homescreen and changing how the icons were displayed (massive gaps between an icon and the one above it) I was wondering if there is any way to undo this install. I had a look round and couldn't really find anything (either that or my searching fails horribly). If anyone knows how to uninstall a single zip that would be great because at the moment the only way round I can see is to re-flash.
PS: I checked in my applications and it didn't appear there either
Cheers
You have to enable it in settings-keyboard and language. If you already did that and it still doesn't work it didn't install.

Please for help! New to android and Optimus G!

i just bought the LG Optimus G f180k from ebay. It has android 4.0.4. Software version F180k 10k. seller claims it is an unlocked phone for international use, however when i insert my micro sim card it can only make emergency calls. how do i fix this? also, how do i get rid of the korean stuff, eg. my lockscreen has two clocks: one showing seoul's time and one showing my time, how do i get rid of the extra clock? I am completely new to android. im switching from iOS 6. Please understand if this is a stupid/"nooby" question.
Go into your data settings add see if your carriers APN in entered. I'm going to guess its not if only emergency calls are allowed. Or you may have been lied to and the phone is not unlocked.

APN settings not entered. Seller claims the phone is unlocked. The phone came with the olleh mark behind it and a bunch of olleh apps preinstalled. Olleh is a korean phone company. Does this mean the phone is locked to olleh? if so, what can i do to unlock?
try entering your apn settings manually

i finally got the phone to work i had to manually select my network under mobile networks instead of the automatic option. i have another problem however, i just updated to android 4.1.2 via LG mobile update tool and i have a korean keyboard. i tried changing the settings under language and input and it hasnt changed. what do i have to do to get rid of this keyboard? do i have to root phone then flash a custom 4.1.2 ROM?
Have you tried changing language settings to English and unchecking Korean if its checked?
I don't think the f180k has the correct LTE bands for outside Korea.
Where are you located?

Install you prefered keyboard - Settings - input - standard input method (Uncheck lg keyboard) and choose the one you want
Hi. Have you found a way to change your lockscreen yet? I have the same problem. Can't seem to find a way to change the lockscreen clock. It keeps showing local time and Seoul time no matter what I do. I tried everything under Lock Screen Settings including trying all the different Clock and Calendar options, deleted the entry for Seoul under the World Clock, fiddled around with my Network and Date and Time settings, and basically went through every other tab under Systems Settings. I have the exact same phone (Olleh LG F-180K) bought brand new and sealed from an online reseller and this is the only thing that's bothering me. Everything else is smooth as butter even without having updated to JB yet.

Ok... lets see if its help you:
First of all, BACK UP everything!!!
Root your phone, many ways to do.
try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181103
After that, go to playstore and install "root browser lite" app;
give it a root access;
go to system folder and at the end you'll see a file called "build.prop", make a copy of it.
in the original file, open it with "RB text editor";
find and change this lines:
Those lines bellow are examples, make changes thats suits you better.
ro.build.date=Fri Jan 28 00:43:20 CST 2013
ro.build.date.utc=1361983400
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
I believe it will stick with your language and local time, after reboot your phone.
in other hand, you can try follow this tutorial to install the latest E975 LG Rom from KDZ.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236
Root and unlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181979
Flash F180 modem http://downloads.codefi.re/houstonn/lgog/modem
be good.
you need just to flash baseband in it
