just wondering if your thinking of doing such an upgrade?
it would be nice to have the search terms highlighted when searched or even show the terms in a summary like fashion?
with all of the WM5 stuff going on, its hard sorting through some of the longer threads.. then to find out that it had nothign to do with what i was looking for..
just a suggestion.. but again, thanks for the great site!
It's a crufty hack rather then a solution, but:
Ensure you use boolean operators correctly (because the search does work), and enabeshow posts, not threads. Then, on the list of hits, click on the subject link and you'll be taken directly to the post with the hit.

Hi all
A few of us Moderators have been getting PM's that in my case have not been dealt with due to the fact I am not always on the board.
All of us do this for free and in our spare time, and over time we move on, get new toys, or even go back to a real life without a keyboard under our fingers.
Please try to understand that some of us are Bias (I admit to it I have a BA and am not intrested in many of the other sections).
Thus I for one do not read all posts and all sections, I feel this is true for others, like I said I feel this.
We all however try to check the trash and keep the news clean.
For this reason we need a form of communication that is not based on a person but directed to a group and in this case its the Moderators and Admins.
It is with that motivation in mind that I have opened this thread and made it sticky in the hope that you are able to post issues that you think that at least one of us should deal with.
Please note that this board does not tolerate cracks, serials, pirated versions or the posting of software that should have been aquired by legal means and we will remove (delete) them when found. Please help us keep this site clean by posting links of that sort in this tread as well as telling us if you have found anything on the ftp site.
Please use this thread, use and edit the wiki and remember this board would not be as great as it is without YOU.
Thanks for your support.

Thanks MDAIIIUser.
And remember, mods aren't Gods, despite us all being flaxen hair'd Adoni.
We can't create new Forums, change the Welcome page or Index page, or supply you with new flags or avatars. But ask anyway, it helps us put pressure on the Admis, who are the true Smooth Operators of this board.

Thanks guys!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for postings this.
We (admins) are behind you (though we also aren't gods )

redirection from www.xda-developers.com still pointed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/front_page.php
link above is not valid anymore
I guess, it should be pointed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php
nothing major, just easier that way
Think that is correct that is the main page, the forum is a sub element which you can get to from the main page. If you just want the forum then bookmark it.
Link above worked for me
[req] mobile forum theme
Let me first thank you for moving to a much better forum application than phpBB.
I hope one day we can have access to a mobile friendly theme from owr phone. If implemented, I would also like to request that the theme option be stored in cookies rather in the database so we wouldn't have to enter User CP and change the theme every time we log in from our mobile or desktop.
thanks!
Charmer Wiki locked, someone have a check on that please. Thanks
checked it,
opened, edit, saved and removed edit fine
Try on another different user account? Look at my screen shot. The Page-Info gives me the LOCKED status. And, I only see the View-Source not the normal Edit button. Something wrong?
Is it possible to regain the option: view your posts? I liked it but can't find it now anymore.
go User CP -> Find all your posts.
I didn't notice, thanks!

Somebody is having fun with the locking of pages!
Thanks (unlocked now)
Just wondering, with the recent spamfest that seems to be taking place is there any pattern developing in the IPs used that would allow an IP ban to be placed? or are they using anon proxies? I know from my own experience as an admin on another forum they can be a pain, but they really seem to be targetting this place.... A friend of mine is a developer for vb and if there is anything that could be of use I can ask him if he would be able to create a plugin to help you block it.
In many ways this is one of the best sites I have seen (apart from the one I am an admin on of course, we all take pride in the sites we run heh) and I would like to assist in any way to stop any of the users being taken in by spammers like that. (yes, I know most of the users here are smart enough not to fall for it lol) Certainly it's one of the most informative on the HTC devices.
I don't see Cingular in the drop-down list for profiles.... found this a bit odd....

Seems I got overlooked....
It's bugging me that I have to show AT&T as my carrier, as apparently carrier isn't an optional field, and Cingular isn't available in the drop down menu....
yeah, I'd be ashamed to show AT&T as my carrier also!!!
does anyone know if or could i have the start menu on the bottom? that would make it feel more like a PC.....
No.
Use Wisbar Advanced Desktop for that
What a wonderfully non-descriptive subject line.
It says absolutly nothing and gives no clue what the post is about.
It forces us to actualy open the message and read it to have any idea what the issue, question, or information actualy is.
A new low point has been reached.
To answer your question. Two ways come to mind to move the menu to the bottom so its more like a PC.
Ignoring the fact that, if this was actualy done, the softkeys would now be in the wrong place for the hardware keys and that this question doesn't have anything in particular to do with Windows Mobile 6.
1) turn the phone upside down
2) buy a PC and use the phone as a modem.
Those are the only ways I can think of.

Wow, what a wonderfully non-helpful post. It does not answer anything, and it forces us to read it just to figure that out.
A new low has been reached.
Next time u got nothin good to say, don't say anything at all.
@Zacch, ive been trolling these boards for a few months and havent seen anything of this nature. I'm not sure the phone can even support somethin like that, but if there was u would find it here.

deach01 does have a point, though. How many of us have time to actually read every single thread? I certainly don't. The only reason I read this one is because I was tempted to make a post similar to what deach01 said. If someone has a question, and they'd like to have people read the question and respond to it, PUT A REASONABLE SUBJECT on the message!
I can only think of two reasons why someone would post in a WM6 forum a subject that says "WM6" - and neither one of them is very complimentary.
The two biggest problems with public forums like this (as I see it) is A) People asking the same question over and over without looking through previous posts to see if it has already been answered, and B) People using vague or "catchy" subject lines, like "WM6" or "PLEASE GOD HELP ME!".
Well, now that I've broken one of my main rules for forum posting (i.e. keep on topic) I'll go back to work. I just wanted deach01 to know that he isn't alone in his frustration with this sort of nonsense.
Brian.
You actually can turn one of your softkeys to launch the start menu. Here's a few options:

Hey guys, just a head's up (of which you might already be aware of, if so feel free to close and/or delete this thread), the option to include YouTube video in a post is currently not working. When you click the YouTube button it places
Code:
[media=youtube][/media]
code for you, into which I placed a YouTube video. However when you hit "Preview" or "Submit" the code changes to
Code:
[media=youtube][url][/url][/media]
and you get a malformed result aka some meta garbage.
I'm not sure if this is a vBulletin-only issue, or if some upgrade to the YouTube backend fudged it up, but since VBulletin is payware, I would ask them to fix this jazz (assuming you are running the latest version, otherwise they will just say it's not their fault).
*random* Even though it is not my current profession (aka the things I do to make money), for years I took on freelance coding assignments that involved in PHP as well as (X)HTML/CSS/JS/etc. The only forum software I have ever coded hacks/addons for is phpBB, but to date I will still design Wordpress/phpBB/Drupal/custom backends (although I refuse to work with ColdFusion after a bad experience years ago... that and ASP/ASPX... PHP and Java Servlets I'm cool with) for a friend's website or help out a friend if they are behind in a freelance gig in exchange for a DVD or something.
I consider the XDA community my friend as well (well technically lots and lots of friends, and the random ahole which is unavoidable =p), so if you guys ever need help with something that falls into that category, let me know. Please note, this is not an invitation for XDA members to request work from me. This notice just applies to public xda-developer resources (aka the homepage, forum, wiki... things like that).
Edit: It appears the CODE function isn't working either, as I had some example posts at the beginning

I am aware of this, that's why I marked that post for deletion (I respect the rules, my router however is a different story, I think wifi went on the fritz because I got a response as if the post didn't go through).
Testing Code Function
Code:

Testing YouTube Function

Well it seems code works just find, as long as you don't try to embed bracketed code inside of it, but the YouTube Function is still boinked. BTW, this is just an FYI to the siteops, I could do without embedded YouTube videos.

Something should be done about it, because it's getting out of hand.
1) It makes quoting posts frustrating. It actually punishes us, because we need to manually remove the crap, which is ironically MUCH more difficult on mobile webbrowsers, than PC.
2) It makes posts more difficult to read. Most of them add a few blank lines and itself, making less fit on a screen without scrolling
3) It's totally unnecessary.
4) It is spam by the apps themselves.
5) Users who need an XDA app, can just type "XDA" into their app stores. So it can't even be argued that it is difficult to find such apps otherwise.
My Proposal:
1) Automatically filter the comment out of posts. They are lame, and unneccessary. Get rid of them automatically (simple string substitution).
2) Give a 3 month warning that users utilising clients which post such garbage, will be given 3 warnings, and will be temp banned if they use them. It is fair.
3) Start a shame list of poorly designed XDA clients.
I agree it isn't the end of the world, but its a lot of wasted productivity, and it's unnecessary. It's bad enough that I have noticed that some people here have massively long/intrusive signatures. Some of those people also have these annoying tags, so they have 3x more "crap", than they do actual post.
I agree with this, but it's up to the admins, will flag this to them.

It's been flagged!
The thing with the signature is that it serves the same purpose as the default signature of your mobile phone in the email client (for example: "Sent from my Verizon Droid X"). It helps to inform people that your message was written while mobile, and so the text might contain errors, or might not be as well thought out as it would have been if you were in front of your computer. The signature is activated by default on our Android apps (and, actually our Windows Phone 7 app).
That said, if there is huge support for turning off the default signature in the application, we'll do it, but this is the first time we're hearing about it being a problem. As mentioned, it serves a practical purpose.
Thanks for the feedback.

I can respect that, but surely, there must be better means of doing so, or at least filter them when using Quoting capabilities.. I recall seeing people get in trouble because they included the comments in their quotes (but I might be imagining it)

Huh? I agree it's useful ... more so than not, at least, as an identifier and a screaming 'hello I'm on my mobile so if this doesn't make sense you know why' kinda thing. I don't see how this is a big deal ... at all. LOL ... ? I also fail to see how it gets in the way of anything, like quoting especially, as it is essentially another single line that still precedes the quote tags.

It's useful IMHO and I am not aware of any issues in including the signature in quotes- it's a single line... who cares? I imagine someone quoted an entire, incredibly long OP, to say "thanks"...
I don't know if it is possible, but how about making the signature from the tapatalk app's just smaller than average text? That way, people can still be informed it was written while mobile, and it would be less obtrusive for the ones who don't like it.... And I'm sorry, I know my normal signature is long

You have to post one way or another - we don't need to know how or what you used to post. It is getting easier to post so more people are posting. Teens are no longer getting flip phones and now populating this forum with more and more silly questions looking for answers you can easily find using google. People have the EVO 4g and think they can post anything they want in the EVO General forum because you have an evo and you are posting in the general section. I want to see general information about the EVO and not other phones on other networks and other random things you find interesting. There are other forums for that.
We all have to start somewhere I know that and when I joined in 2006 the first 4 years I probably posted 100 times and now I am posting like crazy trying to help these people find answers hoping people learn something. People are here 1-2 years with over 1,000 posts.
Yeah, it helps to know that is was posted on a phone but with keyboards and big screens take a couple extra seconds to make sure everything is typed right. I do it why can't other people.
But what if you could have the benefits of knowing which client it was posted with, without having that crap in posts too? Surely that would be better, correct?

No, please, don't turn off signatures in the app. Can't they be stripped, however, the way they're stripped when quoting and responding on the desktop app? I agree, they're difficult to remove if you're responding on the app, but as you said, they're useful to indicate the poster is swyping, or whatever may account for little errors in their post.
