[Q] Radio version - how do I find it? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My terminology may be a little wrong here because I am a former blackberry user so bear with me. On BB you could change out your radio software that controlled your cell and wifi calling signal.
Is it the same with Android? Is there a way to change your radio version? How do I find out which version I am running?
The reason I am asking is that wifi calling works great on CM RC4, but completely sucks for me on stable 6.1.

You can find out your radio version if you go into Menu->Settings->About Phone0>Software Information and look under "Baseband version". At least, that's where it is on my DZ ROM.
Yes, it is possible to flash radio updates.
I would check the CM thread for other people discussing wifi calling there though, and maybe post up in that thread (in the dev section).

Its my understanding that the wifi calling is not a radio issue though. Changing the radio will not help you in this case.

Yeah, my baseband version was the same from RC4 to 6.1 stable so it would make sense that there is something else that changed that is messing up the wifi calling for me.
I have posted in the 6.1 post in the dev section and have seen a couple other people who have posted with the same issues on wifi.
Hopefully it is addressed (along with the phone number issue) in a more stable(r) release.

bluetooth/wifi interference

I don't often use bluetooth but I don't ever recall having interference issues with WIFI until I got to CM7 and flashed the latest radio.
It's WIFI thats causing the issue, if I turn wifi off while I'm on a call the noise is gone.
Is my headset on the fritz, am I loosing my mind, or is this new with this radio version? Or all of the above.
Sidenote: Anyone know of an app that will automatically disable wifi while I'm on a BT call?
MT3GS, CM 7.0.2, Radio 7.9.35.10
hello good sir ok here it goes your running cm7 stable i see with the latest raido and that is great the problem is not with your phone more than likely could be but are you one of the unfortanate folks that has wifi connectivity issue ??? or does wifi work great for you as it does for me never had issues. the reason i ask is cm7 running the latest radio and latest everything lol is flawless however there is a licencing issue from google with android 2.3 cyanogenmod 7 with the wifi apk file meaning cm mod is using the wifi apk from 2.2 because there is no licence restrictions but for whatever reason on 2.3 they have that wifi apk file under licence for a one year period so that being said that may be the issue. or it could be your phone i have 3 mytouch slides mine wifes daughters and they all running cm7 stable clockworkmod and s-off and i have no issues with any i hope this helps and not just rambling good luck if need any additional info lmk thanks
No, that does make sense..
My wifi is a little whacky, but not nearly as bad as some folks describe. I've actually considered going back to CM6 a few times now.
My fiance has a MT3GS with CM6.11 and the older radio, I need to test my headset with that later.

[Q] Which radio is best for latest Firmware 2.42.405.2

Hi,
obviously I am new to this forum (yes, I admit it, I had an iPhone 4 until recently ). I read a lot of threads here and managed to root two HTC Desire Z phones thanks to the many helpful infos here! I even had to debrand the 2nd Desire Z, because it was a Vodafone branded phone, using a Goldcard, which worked like a charm.
Now everything seems to be fine so far, except some little occasional hickups:
One is, that my battery seems to drain pretty fast when I am downloading something over my Home-WiFi. It can go down over 40% within two hours.
The second is, that every now and then, the phones do not find my WiFi broadcast automatically. I have to go into settings, access points and then manually select the WiFi and hit confirm on the next screen popup showing the MAC-address amongst other things. Most of the times all I need to do is switch my phone on to get the connection. But sometimes it just doesn't...
Both phones are running the Virtuous v2.0.0 (Vision), which is based on the latest 2.42.405.2 release from HTC.
In addition I manually flashed the radio to 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M using the image from this thread, since it still had the really old radio (26.03.02.26_M) from the downgrade process to the 1.34 firmware installed and this radio seemed to be the one officially released by HTC in connection with the latest 2.42.405.2 firmware.
So now I am wondering if this was the right choice.
I've run across threads claiming the .30 radio (and probably another radio starting with 26.08 or so ?) would be a good combination with the Virtuous v2.0.0. But I am wondering why one should use an older radio. And I don't want to try out many different radios for the next days, so I am hoping, that maybe somebody here has already gone through that process or can at least elaborate on their experiences with the radio they are using.
Maybe someone can also shed some light onto the question, if I should also align my RIL as discussed in this thread.
Thanx in advance!!!
Tronar

Really? Noone? No recommendations from the experts or opinions from happy or disappointed ROM and Radio user?
The radio depends on your location. Best to ask someone from your country about the better radio to use.
as for me, i do not like the new radio, as the data connection is sluggish, as compared to the older ones.
The best radio to use would be the one that was RELEASED with the rom. The one that ends in .03.
The data connection is definitely different with the .03, because before my phone usually showed 3G on a regular basis and switched to H only when I caused some data transfer (e.g. browsing or requesting data through a Widget). Now my phone constantly displays an H (unless I am in a G only region of course).
Question: did they just change the way the connection is displayed or did they also change the switching between regular 3G and HSDPA? I think I read somewhere that the switching preserved battery in the long run, because maintaining an H connection requires more power than a simpler 3G connection. Does anyone know something about that?
Hi,
first of all: I am also using Virtuous v2.0.0 (Vision) in combination with the latest radio (26.10.04.03) on my DZ.

I also have to manually disable/enable my wifi to connect to any network, but only after a reboot. Since I do not reboot frequently I do not care.
In general the 26.10.04.03 radio works best for me (in Germany) - I have good coverage and a stable 3G connection. My battery is also fine with this radio. But as it was said previously YMMV.
Are you using any software which could interfere with the wifi state? For example I am using "UnlockAtHome" which for some reason tries to put the Wifi to sleep when you are not connected to a whitelisted network and the screen is turned off - something like this could cause wifi connection drops.

Major radio issues; Cannot or can hardly connect to non-Wifi internet anymore

Hello,
I’m currently having major issues with the radio I flashed. I installed Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 with Unity V4 yesterday and flashed it with the recommended radio; 26.04.02.17.
It seemed to work fine, WiFi worked and I can send/receive texts and make calls.
However, today I noticed I was unable to surf the web on my mobile data plan. A reboot didn’t help either. I also noticed that the icon was showing 3g in an area which I know doesn’t have 3g. So I rebooted again and this time I could surf the web, but very very slowly. It took 5 minutes to open the maket.
Anyway, I flashed my old, original radio back (26.03.02.26) and the problem still remained.
As a last resort I flashed the newest radio (26.10.04.03) and the problems still remain.
I also tried reflashing the stock ROM, but that didn’t make a difference either, as well as the advanced kernel from virtuous.
I’m lost. Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks !
Sorry, but this is a prime example why flashing radios isn't needed unless you are having issues related to radio functionality.
Have you tried calling your service provider and ask them if they are having issues with data or provisioning?

I totally agree and I have learned from this. What's odd is that reflashing the original, working radio now doesn't seem to work anymore either.
I didn't call them, but a friend of mine who lives in my neighberhood who has the same service provider, doesn't have any issues.
Thanks

I would still call them and see if your device/sim is provisioned correctly.

I reflashed my old, original radio and this time I did not match RILs and all seems to be working as usual again.
Thanks for the input !

[Q] Wifi question on ICS AOSP Port

I've installed latest 4r1 beta and see that many people in rom thread have wi-fi working via setting static ip against dhcp, but my phone can't even see any wi-fi networks. Other roms work well and just updated to Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 but still no wi-fi. I wonder if anyone can help or atleast post this question to main thread as im new member and can't post in ad development topics.
Send the op of ROM thread a private message if you can't post in said thread.

Hi, I have the same problem. Available networks are not appear when turning on wifi. I am currently on ICS_AOSP_Vision_beta8r5 (BTW great rom).
I hope devs will help us with this issue.
I'm not running an ICS ROM at the moment, but I had the same problem and figured it out. If I remember correctly, at the top of the list (above the list of networks) there's a toggle you need to switch on. It wasn't obvious, just happened to find it by accident. Check it out.

[Q] COS-Bravo-ICS - problem reconnecting with 2G or 3G after Wifi connection

Hi,
I'm using the COS-Bravo - ICS [21-May-2012] on my phone. Since the first version I flashed I've been having the same problem, but as the ROM is under development, I thought the problem would get fixed in some update. It still hasn't so I'm reporting it.
When loosing a WIFI connection, the phone must switch to a 2G or 3G network. This doesn't happen. Mostly the WIFI icon disappears as it disconnects and the signalstatus doesn't change (no Edge, Gprs or Hdspa is added). When I go to Airplane mode and back or when I switch between 2G/3G, the connection is repaired and the data-connection works again.
I've also noticed this problem with other ICS roms (Sanvold and BCM)
Does anybody have a clue what this could be?
Radio
What radio version do you have?
Its recommended to have the latest radio.
You can find the latest radio here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
Of course the latest radio. ;-)
I have the same issue. When turning wifi off, my Desire doesn´t get a mobile connection though it´s showing, that i would be connected.
Switching to 3g and back doesn´t work for me.

Same problem here with Sandvolds ICS
I have this problem nearly 2 years now on every rom (stock eclair, froyo and cm7) and on every radio version, so I guess it is hardware depended.
Correct me if i am wrong.
What I do is switching to airplane mode and back, so i have to enter my PIN again.
Maybe there is a soltution, cause this is really drving me nuts
Thx
With the newest version (01-06-2012) the problem seems to be solved (for me). Perhaps you should give it a try.
I´ve been glad to hasty. It still does not work. Neither does it to switch between 2g and 3g. But the airplane-"hack" does work for me too.
I have same problem with COS ROM. Mobile internet connection after using telephone as wifi modem do'nt working successfully.... i need reboot phone, airplane mode not solving this problem..
Hi!
Same problem here (HTC Desire Bravo, GSM, Cos-Bravo 1st June, latest radio).
This "bug" is present in every ICS Rom and as well in some GB Roms I tried. So far, the RSK ROM Sense 3.5 with amaze cam doesn't have this issue.
I hope someone will get to it. I'm more than ready to donate if someone will be able to solve this out with next build.
Thanks.

To judge from my own experience - I'm still seeing this problem six months later - it has not been fixed yet. Or does it only affect a subset of Desires?
I'm experiencing it using a GB ROM - Mildwild 4.7, though it was there in 4.6 as well. I can only assume it is in the ROMs, as I get it on two different handsets, a PVT3 running radio-5.17.05.23 and a PVT1 rrunning radio-5.11.05.27.
cheers,
Bryangb
Remove the skipbrokendatacall entry in build.prop file. This will not completely resolve the problem but will make it very much manageable.
Check your APN Settings and try to set APN-Type to default only.
