Has anybody heard if there is going to be a Amon RA recovery for the G2???

I have nothing bad to say about ClockwordMod Recovery, but I would prefer to use Amon_RA instead. I was just trying to see if it was available for the G2, but sadly I haven't found it yet. Is it available or not?

No.

There isn't one available and there doesn't seem to be one in development. From what I've read there is quite a bit of work that would need to be done to make it work for devices like the G2 so I wouldn't expect one :-(

Ah damn... I'm really wanting one, I'm currently on a G1 right now and have been using Amon_Ra's recovery ever since I rooted it. I'm planning on upgrading to a G2 next week and I would like to use a recovery that I'm familiar with. I don't have nothing against the Clockwork Recovery but I just don't like the layout, I prefer Amon_Ra's.
I used to use amon ra also and it would be cool to see it for the g2. But it's not like clockwork is broken or anything and I don't hate using it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard somewhere that Amon_RA wasn't making recoveries anymore.
Sent from my HTC Vision
Talked to Amon awhile ago and he told me that he doesn't own a G2 and its hard to make a recovery for a phone he doesn't own haha. Which is true haha. But he never stated that he will never make one. So there is hope, but very little of it. I too went straight from a G1 using nothing but Amon RA recovery to the G2 using clockwork. It wasn't a bad transition, but then again....I do miss Amon RA!

I miss being able to use console in recovery, but I'm just about the only one that uses that lol. Also the power off option is missing. Everything else is the same, just in a different position.
A console is the only thing that would make clockwork better.

That and the ability to transfer files to the SD card from the PC while in recovery. Not too mention the ability to format the sdcard the way Amon_RA does it, where you choose your own sizes and partition layouts. Amon_RA is just simpler and more familiar.

You can transfer files, it's under the advanced tab. Also, I totally forgot about sd card formating. It has been so long since I've used my G1 that I forgot the reason I used Ra over clockwork.

Honestly, the "no console" thing isn't even that big of a deal. ADB is a suitable workaround, just mount /system and /data as needed.

How does the Clockwork Recovery partition the SD card? I've only used the Clockwork Recovery once and I took it off after five minutes because I didn't really like it, it just "felt" different, it was weird. Can you not partition the SD card or something?

Can Someone Customize it to be able to go through folders to flash zips instead of having to drop everything on the root of my sd card it's looks really unorganized and I always forget to put the zip on the root of my sd after wiping everything then trying to flash something. I wouldn't mind donating for that and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person that wouldn't mind donating for that being put in there.

Clockworkmod is for the noobies once first after rooting and using rom manager....unless you have RA, you wont wipe data nor dalvik or even battery stats correctly with clockwork. Clockwork needs a major overhaul. Clockwork and RA are two totally different recoveris. RA's feature is for there to not be so much clutter. so its scans /sdcard just for roms.

right clockwork has a ton of issues. i agree that it needs to be updated....or that someone needs to come along and try to combine both RA recovery style and clockworks style into one recovery....except do it right! (not halfassing it) but still......clockwork is always good for searching those folders. RA is good for wiping and stability and outrageously good for the nand backups!
First, amon recovery has its own thread and this request has been asked many times before.
Second, amon has the ability to mount the sdcard to your pc while in recovery. Honestly if you are doing any kind of flashing on your phone (besides nands) you really should be near a pc the whole time.
Last, if you read the amon thread, amon himself said that writing recoveries is a hobby and not his profession. Make your request be known in his thread and be patient although this request has been made many times like I said even by me. But when you realize how valuable the usb ms toggle option is (along with apps like astro, root explorer, etc) you will eventually get into the habit of triple checking your steps prior to flashing anything.
I agree with bmx añd lovëtheevo

For the folder issues, I just use ASTRO file manager to move the file I want to flash to the root of my SD. It's not hard, and can be done in a few seconds.
I see that a lot of the "experienced" android users prefer Amon_Ra recovery over Clockwork. I have to say that I personally have used Clockwork with no problems what so ever. Even a chicken**** noob like myself can use ROM manager w/o a problem. I never had a problems backing up my current ROM, restoring it or downloading and installing a totally new ROM.

Amon-ra is my preference 0 errors. Clockwork is nice also, has its own app but people have reported a couple of flashing errors. Both are awesome all I can say is try out both see which one you like better.

I was kind of tempted with the features and GUI of Clockwork, but after reading a bit on here, it seems like Amon Ra is the reliable way to go. I'm new to Evo rooting and roms, but when I had my Nexus One, AR was absolutely the way to go. Rock freakin' solid.
Currently if you have a evo with hboot 2.02 or 2.10 the only recovery u can use after rooting is amon ra...just a fyi

The solution is to place your flashable .zip files to the base sdcard directory and not within a subfolder.

Like the person above said, Amon_RA 1.8.0 can only use ZIP files which are on the root of your SD card, not in a sub-folder. Version 2.0 (which Amon_RA has suggested will be coming soon-ish) will have folder navigation.
Amon Ra currently but I have used both. The reasons are clear it backs the RSA keys, and does clear when wiping.
Btw try #grep RSA /sdcard/nandroid/HT065HL*/(name of nandroid file)/wimax.img
You'll see where your RSA keys are stored in your nandroid.
I go back and forth.... I use amon ra for nandroid backups and serious flashes like radio pri nv all that jazz. I like clockwork for ease sometimes. I don't use app2sd. I use titanium to wipe davlik and repeat in either cw or amon ra just to be sure... They both have their good points. and bad

Hey guys,
I have scoured the forums and the web for answers, but have found none. I have everything normally displayed on ClockWorkMod EXCEPT the "nandroid" option. Can anyone shed some light on this?! I have been loyally updating ClockWorkMod but each comes with no "nandroid" option!
I am currently running MIUI 1.9.2 with a Savaged-Zen kernel along with vipermod and Supercharger V6. There is a thread similar to this, only it is in the "Vibrant General" forum and it ends abruptly. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901818
It's not called nandroid. You just go into the recovery and select up backup/restore and then backup.
That's what I've been doing for, like, forever, but was nandroid discontinued or something?
It's still a nandroid backup, it's just not called that in the menu.
Backup - Nandroid
Started out with that backup, but quickly moved to Armon-RA, I have had no issues and all the features work without issue. Most all rom’s that are posted have users that are using the Clockwork, a standard recommendation is to move to Armon-RA. Might be a little pain in the neck to switch, but I don’t think you would want to go back.

It's still a nandroid back up, whether it's clockwork or Amon Ra recovery.
The backups are in a folder called clockworkmod on the sd card.
Thanks for all your answers!
Sorry, avwheeler but I am not switching to Amon Ra.
If your using rom mansger you can backup from there, they don't call it a nandroid but it is. Btw, amon_ra is a much better recovery.in terms of features and stability!

Yea rom manager is just a GUI to get to recovery and honestly is pretty worthless on alot of phones, it causes more problems than its worth really. The old school manual way using amon RA or one of its variants is tried and true and always reliable. CWM on the Evo doesn't always wipe properly which leads to serious issues, I prefer to go down my wipe list and hit everything 3x on a clean install, and 1-2x for cache and dalvik for an upgrade where I dont need to wipe data etc, oh yeah just don't wipe your SDCARD option or it will be blank after and you better hope you got a backup on ur PC, I did that once when I was hungover and half asleep

1: How can I format the internal SD card? I'm kind of a stickler for getting rid of all the extra junk that my old apps accumulate over time when I install a new ROM. I'm easily able to format the external card, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do the internal card...
2: How can I access app configuration files when my phone is rooted. This is specifically for GO Launcher EX because it seems to think my phone is much taller in landscape mode than it really is, which make landscape wallpapers look horrible because they are always centered off on the top of the image. I'd like to manually change this if at all possible.
Thanks.

You probably have CWM for recovery. Download TWRP recovery. There is a option to wipe internal storage, I just checked mine.

I'll have a look at it. I've never used anything besides CWM, so I've got no experience with this one, is it good and stable?

Just as stable as cwm it a touch interface. I'll never use cwm again.

This phone is kinda counterintuitive in that aspect. CWM (on most other devices) is the most stable and most packed with features, but on the S3 its TWRP that has stepped up to the plate and taken CWM's place
