[Q] Found New Root Program? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was on youtube just surfing around looking at different G2 things and I found a video from a WalterJohnson9068 of a rooting program you download and plug your G2 to your computer and in a few clicks the root is done, I wanted to know if anyone else found this, and wanted to ask if it works 100% to root and get s-off like Visionary and others on the Forums.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD_9b03UbSI

OOPS, just relised I posted this in the wrong section...sorry guys

its fake btw

Yes, definitely fake. Found this awhile ago and it didn't seem legit. Only a few comments on it and no talk on these forums about it.

checked the comments posted, all from same general people, posting the same video and commenting each other on it, full warning to anyone out there, if it isnt proved on XDA to work, it might be fake........

Yea this is fake.

Ya, but this is kind of a weird topic to search for. "Root," you're gonna get everything.

Froyo?

Sorry, i cannot find a post about it but, is Froyo out for the Desire?
No. Don't think the Desire will be seeing it for a while.

As far as I'm aware, the Evo 4G does not have an official Froyo port, though it may well have a hacked port.
If you searched for Froyo in these forums, you'd have found a couple of hacked Froyo ROMs too.
Regards,
Dave
There is a port for the desire. I'm using one now! We had it before the evo.Look for DeFrost v.4 by richardtrip. Camera doesn't work that well, but it's a pretty stable rom. There's another by Ahmgsk as well.

I just wanted to say great first post...hopefully someone will find the way to root YOUR phone because according to the 100 or so other threads, if you would have SEARCHED FIRST nobody else has been able to get it but I have faith you might be the one. So please when you get the way to root will you please share it with the rest of us! But you might wanna check the first thread at the top of the Q and A forum I think the info u need is there. So when you figure root out please report back how you did it! Oh thanks again for one of the best first posts we have seen...
P.S. HOW FA KING HARD IS IT TO SEARCH BEFORE YOU FA KING POST!

Shutdown boot animation like cm7

Wondering if theres anyway of having the shutdown animation that cm7 has on sense, the one that appears when the screen goes to sleep....

this has been talked about multiple times before, a simple search would have yielded you an answer instead of making another post.
NO...cause Froyo's framework is different than Gingerbreads framework, and it is not possible. You'll have to wait for HTC to release GB for the Evo.
EDIT: content removed due to stupidity.
LOL, didnt read the OP fully. NM.
You know what? Its unuseful arrogant comments and replies that make some of the users here a big waste of space in these forums, a simple humane way of making it known that it was already spoken about would of been enough... I even searched for such question and didn't see anything of the sort... Lets make it a habit that if theres nothing neutral or nice to say then refrain from making a comment and let someone else with proper ethics do so.. Mod? You may now close this thread... Thank you...

Storm I was just over in the app section of the forum. Apparently it is possible but you would only get a split second animation and it would be too much work than its worth since ggb for evo should be out Soon.

This is about as easy as it can get, thought it really isn't the recommended method anymore. If that's still too hard for you, then you need to slow it down and start reading.

Please note that any means other than the wiki have resulted in many, many bricks; as long as you follow the wiki guide perfectly, double check your typing, etc. you'll be fine.

Easiest and reliable are not the same thing. The Wiki method is most reliable.

The method posted by OriginalGabriel is the way to go. Trust me. I did it and was smooth as butter. I'm not sure why it has such a bad rep since I have heard of NO bricks from the easy root method. I think people see "Visionary" and get scared. It's perfectly safe for temprooting but a VERY bad idea for perm-root. The Gfree method is used for that... all you will be doing is running the scripts for Gfree instead of keying them in manually. No ADB, no hassle, much less room for error. Once you are rooted, get rid of Visionary and enjoy.

Naw, I agree with Pirateghost. Jargon exists for a reason. If one does not use the proper terminology, its hard to know what they are talking about. For instance, sometimes people ask "How do I unlock my phone?". Its impossible to know whether they are asking how to root, or how to unlock the SIM.

This +100
People coming over from the iPhone world may not know what all is going on here, so it is important to not confuse terminology. exactly like redpoint73 said, how do we know if they mean UNLOCK or ROOT or ROM?? do you know? if you do, then by all means help the guy out, i would prefer to not get the terminology muddled with inconsistencies.

Personally, not sure why. We'll have to wait for an explanation or something i think.
I was wondering the same thing! I hate to say but ROM development is prettty slow for the G2 since tmobile took it off the shelf. But there is still other great Sense Roms out there thanks to RMK and Magic.

Vitruous was easily one of my favorite dev teams for the G2. Too bad.
Them wanting people to stop talking about it is a dumb request. People loved there work and aren't just gonna sit around silent.
Edit: I don't mean people should keep talking about whatever the issue was. I just meant that people are gonna be wanting to know where it went and what the status of it coming back is.

I know that but I have also provided the information. I just ask to respect the dev's wishes and not continue speculating and eventually blow things out of proportion.
Their work is not a right that we have but a privilege and therefore a little respect for them would be nice. That's all.

I think you're completely right in that we should be discussing this event that just occurred. The DHD kids have been flaming and talking while we have stayed polite and respectful. I do think that being patient in waiting for information was the right move on our part. now we don't have to speculate or make up crazy explainations. We can use facts now to defend our dev whose team has spent a lot of time to provide the roms that we take for granted. Let's speak up in the virtuous teams defense!

I personally think they will be back they just got to let everyone know who wears the pants in this situation and in all reality that's their right and I don't blame them. I have seen this happen more than a few times on xda.

What a shame. I love the virtuous ROMs and the diligent work they do. Flaming them for their voluntary support of HTC phones is really a bad and childish move.
I just wonder if they "only" called it quits for the Unity ROM or also for the other ROMs like the Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 for the G2 / Desire Z. Can anybody elaborate?
