Boot loop problem with RCMix HD - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi peeps, after a couple of days trying to get a custom ROM going i finaly cracked it.Worked round the partition problem and got Mix HD ROM running. It starts up just fine but restarts after 4 or 5 mins and keeps looping.I cleared storage in recovery and formated the SD from clockwork mod.And all goes according to plan then random reboots.Any help as to why this is happening?.Bit of a noob so be gentle with me lol.

You should post this question in the according threat.
I had the same problem but after some searching I found out the problem likely lies at the kernel.
so try flashing the older b33 kernel (link in first post of the rom)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

thanx for the speedy reply, sorry about the post position.Got the kernel how is it flashed?.Through recovery like the ROM or is it done differently?.

same way like a rom.

So copy it to the root of the card and flash from recovery or clockwork mod?.Dont remember seeing anything in either about kernels?.Sorry for sounding desperate but i'm so close lol.

Just go to clockwork recovery and choose flash zip from SD and then navigate to the kernel zip file. If you got a error like me that the zip isn't signed just disable the sign verification and try again

Hi back again, just to say thanks to all that helped me on the road to rooted goodness lol.Flashing the kernel seems to have cured the boot loop problem. Now im off to see how i can add little extras to make my device my own.Cheers

Sorry back again just plugged my phone into my PC and it said i needed to format the drive (SD card i take it) so i did as there was nothing on it anyway but now when i plug it in it can see it but only lists it as 999MB, just so happens o be the same size as the partition i made with liveCD.Any ideas whats going on there or have i limited the size of my card by mistake?.How would i put that right?.Without wrecking my newly ROMed phone. The phone however still sees 6.68 GB.

How big did you made your ext3 partition? Did you do it with gparted? If so use gparted to check if the partitions on your SD are right (500/1000 mb ext3 partition and the rest fat32)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Well thats what LiveCD says i've got but when i plug it into windows it just wants to format the 1GB, surely it should want to do that with whats left at FAT32 right. The extension will format in recovery but the SD card wont. Doin my head in

Where did you create the ext partition on the disk?
If you created the ext partition before the fat32 partition windows wont recognize the disk and hence will want to format it to fat(default).

Last night I was trying to partition my sd card and it went wrong. The sd stopped working and after turning off the phone every time I turn the phone on it goes to fastboot. It got the clockworkmod as recovery and if I try to format the sd I get the message: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1) . Is there anything I can do? Ps sorry if this post is poor im sending this from my wifes phone as my home internet is down too!
If your on froyo your SD Card need an ext3 partition to boot the phone
Use clockwork recovery to re partition.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
use gparted to partition, just make sure that you have it in this order, fat32 then ext3 then swap(if you decide to use a swap)
I got a very similar problem and still can't solve it. I did partitioned the sd card with Rom manager and then went into recovery, tried to check if it was ex3 (because i read somewhere that rom manager partitions the sd card only with ex2), and then the **** was done. Every time I boot the device it goes into fastboot, so I can't even put some rom on the SD card and try to flash the mobile phone again :S
Any tips, help or whatever? Please.

Unable to flash new/seemingly any rom - Any help?

So a while back I rooted my desire, and played about with a few roms, then stuck with cyanogen for quite a while. This is the order of a few actions I took which I think may be where the problem occurred.
So from being rooted with cyanogen 7:
I decided to s-off the phone with alpharev
I then put a new splash screen on
Then decided I wanted a new sd card (I was told by a mate it will just go straight in no problems) So I bought an 8gb card stuck it in put my backed up data on the card and booted, all was fine.
I then thought about trying a few new roms that had appeared, and I tried flashing one only for the phone to hang forever on the splash screen.
I've been trying a few things to try to resolve it, stabbing in the dark, such as running unrevoked3 (maybe to root again, only for it to say the firmware is too new) I made my new sd card a gold card, like I did with the original.
None of these helped. has anyone any ideas or know how to sort this out???
What recovery do you have? Which ROM did hang?
Did you do a full wipe?
Does the rom you want to instal require a ext partition?

I wiped the cache, and dalvik cache, even did a factory reset in recovery. Im using clockwork recovery.
I tried InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_CM7_v20 and Reflex_S_2.0_LITE_GingerBread_Sense-2.1_GRI40_A2SD+
Maybe these need an ext partition? Would that be it? I'm not sure how to set that up yet.
yes those roms need ext partition, don't know about reflex bu have insertcoin myself, 1GB ext4.
1.go to recovery
2.press on partition sd,choose the size, then after it's finished convert it to ext3 in partition sd again below the option of making one, you can make ext4, but thats up to you. ext3 is needed..
Don't forget to backup your sd, you'll lose everything on it
The ROM you mentioned is an a2sd ROM. So yes, you'll need to partition your SD card if you want to use a a2sd rom.

Thanks for this I will get on it and let you know
I can't find an option in my clockwork to partition the sd. Just been searching a bit and seen it can be done through rom manager, that rebooted the phone and left me with the ! in a triangle and the small droid on the screen and when I press the power button it is in recovery it says installation aborted. Is there a guide for the Desire? I can't seem to find one....
Sorry found a guide on here. Will try to do it now.
Ok so I am really struggling to get anywhere with a few different guides to partition the card. Through rom manager it also says signature failed, although I have tried toggling the permissions. Major

Steveoh like i told, do it from recovery(easiest), when you rooted you were able to change the recovery(unrEVOked), do so and change it to Ra recovery
Still if you don't want to this program can help youhttp://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Download this and do it from you pc, although it's very easy to do from recovery, takes 5,6 minutes mostly waiting..
I have created a partition with the program you recommenced. How will I know that it is ext 3? And that my phone will use it?
found it!

[Q] LeeDriod 2.5 Boot loop help on HTC Desire

Hi, I have full root and S-OFF enabled on my phone.
Im trying to load the 2.5 version of LeeDroid found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Once installed, it shows the boot screen, then the "android boot screen" appears, sits there for 10-15 secs, and it automatically reboots, it will not get any further, any ideas?
Thanks!
Go to recovery, full wipe, reflash, reboot.
But post in the desire forum next time . There are more people that can help you.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Thanks, I tired that, did a full wipe & reflash, no luck.
Hi.
I just had a thought, do I need a have a partition on my SD card for ext2/3 before installing this rom? I currently have 2 primary partitions, the 2nd partition is used by link2SD app.
Appreciate any help!
Thanks
Yes, you need a ext3/4 partition (what ever the requirements are) and FAT32 on your SD card. Just use recovery to do it, so simple.
Thanks, Ive created a 700MB EXT3 partition, and the rom loaded fine.
Only issue is that using a disk usage app, the data storage only shows up as 237MB? I thought it would be 700MB, as thats the size of my partition?
Thanks
All sorted thanks!

SD card reverts to unallocated space after a while

I have a new Kingmax microsd, 16 gb, class 10. After receiving it I did an error search and found none. I then installed Sandvold's ICS v0.5.0.1 from his thread and after a while every app crashed and the phone reboots and never returns to normal meaning it continually boots (not a bootloop, it just keeps loading forever not finding the sd card). When I go into recovery (4ext recovery touch) it tells me it can't mount the sd card and then the recovery boots without the sd. When I take out the sd card and put it in my laptop I see that the whole sd card has lost all partitions ( the first one FAT32 of 13 gb, the second one ext4 of 1gb and the swap of 256) and has becomed unallocated. This has happened 3 times (twice after installing the above mentioned ROM and one time without any ROM installed- just rebooted recovery after formatting the sd according to how I said before). I would like to know if the problem is with the sd card or my phones hardware. Thank you for helping me.

Use Minitool partition wizard. There's a partition recovery function. Or format into fat32 via computer, then boot into recovery and allocate your SD.
Good luck!

minitool doesnt partition ur sdcard very good. best way is to partition with 4ext recovery or gparted
Sent from my HTC Desire
I partitioned my card with 4ext recovery (before that I also tried doing it with minitool but didn't work that well). The problem, as i see it, is that at some point for some unknown reason to me, all partitions vanish, so android no longer sees my sd card, everything crashes and the phone reboots and loads forever (because it no longer senses my sd). When I enter recovery afterwards, the recovery says it can't mount the SD card. When I insert it in my PC I notice that all partitions are gone and all the space on it is unallocated. Maybe now I have explained things a little better. What is it that wipes everything like that living the sd with unallocated space?

i really dont know but if it were me i would try partitioning my sdcard (with 4ext) to ALL fat32 (no ext4 or swap) and see if recovery recognises it.

i was just having a read at some post on sandvolds ics thread and it seems to be full of issuses. (not surprised) lol. if i were u id just try a different rom, something simple like MildWild Oxygen with a 1gb (1024) ext4 partition with NO swap and see how u get on with that, then ul have a better idea what the problem is

Now I'm on sebastian's sense 3.5 gb. And nothing happened so far. I just hope it's not the sd card.

I'm on Sandvold's ICS v0.14 since yesterday (about 30 hours). Nothing happened so far. I've installed about 30 apps too and tried to stress the SD as much as I could. So basically I'm still waiting.

I'm at about 48 h since my last install and things are ok. Just a minor indigestion last night but nothing serious and completely unrelated to this thread.

It happened again. This time 7 days after the last install... I'm beginning to think the sd is broken.

[Q] Totallay LOST.

So hi there, i am going to give as much detail as possible so that hopefully someone can help me as i know NOTHING about rooting phones or any of the jargon. So please be patient.
SO...
Bought an HTC desire from gumtree here in the UK about 3 months ago not knowing it was a rooted phone, when the phone started it used to say RC MIX and i know it was on RUNNYMEDE, but i have bno idea which version.
Sadly the SD card has gone BUST leaving me with a hanging screen on the boot screeen (not the white HTC screen but the BEATS screen after the white screen)
SO after ALOT of googling i came across the RUNNYMEDE tutorial and download with had the stable and beta versions so i downloaded the stable version.
Heres where things got a bit funny for me.
After transferring the Runnymede ZIP file to the 4gb sd card and doing the doing the partion ext4 thing it will not allow me to install from zip as it does not find the ZIP file after doing the partition, although before doing the partion the ZIP file showed file in EXT4 recovery. SO me being me i just reformatted the sd card to FAT32, the put the ZIP file onto card and installed runnymede using the installer which al went well.
Then i Transferred the files from sd to PC, Partitioned the SD card and put the stuff BACK onto the SD card from PC.
Sadly none of this has worked for me and ia m at a total loss.

Thanks for your time
Partitioning ur sdcard wipes it clean, thats why zip file aint there. So partition ur sdcard again, 1gb (1024) ext4 then copy the rom zip to sdcard, then go to wipe/format and press format all partitions except sdcsrd then flash the rom. Should boot fine then.

Huh?
Thanks for the answers. In the end i went to the top of this forum to troubleshooting and used the TUT and installed Cryro, which is now working great on the phone.
I just need one more teeny bit of help if possible.
Now my SD card is registering as DAMAGED, which its not lol and will not mount (it is fat32 formatted and has zip files for crya mod and runnymede, that is ALL) Can i just format the sd again? Will thephone still run or are there files needed for the phone to boot on the SD card?
I have NO android market app and need it soooooooo bad.. whats the quickest way to get it on there... cheers again.

For runnymede rom u need to make a partition on ur sdcard for the rom to work, because of the size of the rom. So if uv anything on ur sdcard u want to keep then copy it to pc. Now we have to partition ur sdcard, so boot into recovery,
go to tools and choose partition sdcard,
then choose remove all partitions and start from scratch,
then choose 1024,
then press skip then skip again,
it will then ask to choose ext3 or ext4? Choose ext4.
When its finished go to main menu and choose
wipe/format then format all partitions except sdcard.
Once thats done, copy runnymede rom back to sdcard then install the rom and once thats done reboot. First boot will take up to 10 mins so dont pull battery after 5 haha. Theres a guide here on xda by abaaaabbb on how to partition sdcard if u get stuck but ul be fine if u just follow my instructions.
