[Q] Evo 4G on Boost Mobile - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a real guide on how to get a Sprint Evo 4G working on Boost Mobile? I have searched everywhere on various forums, but have come up empty handed. Except for some youtube videos, no1 wants to even talk on how to do it.

Wrong place for this question. Should be in Q & A.
Impossible to put EVO on Boost Mobile.

No, its not impossible. I have seen it for myself.

Just call Boost Mobile Customer Service, give then the ESN number, which must be clean, and have then activate the ESN. You must have a working Boost Mobile account prior to doing it. Do not tell them you have an EVO, just give them the ESN. Some reps will tell you right away it can't be done, others do not even look at the fact that it is a Sprint phone and just put it on the system. Keep trying, be courteus, if the 1st rep does not do it, call back. It has worked for me.

Lol no matter if he gives them the esn it dont have to be clean why u think people switch to cricket u need to flash the prl first and then manual add the wdb and mms settings u must have ur boost number first just follow the cricket guide but google boost mms and web servers and uze them along with ur boost prl

do what he said but instead of calling back just go onto boostmobile.com and do it there you may need to enter the esn number 3 or 4 times but it will take it.

THANK YOU! Im reading like "are these ppl serious?" Calling boost with an Evo Esn # will get u nowhere they're not gonna activate it Period. if it was that simple Sprint would have NO business. I dont know the Step by Step (but i seen the process) but the evo must be properly flashed to work with boost (too much work for me so i jus had a friend of a friend do it for me for $70) and from wut i understand its technically illegal cus it involves esn cloning an other trickery blah blah...politics

No your wrong boost is owned by sprint and their cdma phones run off of sprint network truth is a Evo could run on boost cdma portion if and only if you get someone dumb enough to activate the esn and imei on there without checking what type of phone it is I've seen both Evo's and here's on boost. Truth is those people got lucky and no no esn cloning is needed like I said you just need someone dumb enough to NOT CHECK WHAT PHONE IT IS! You won't have 4G but you still get 3G, all possible cause THEY RUN ON THE SAME NETWORK AND SIGNAL

Im not exactly wrong, I know boost is owned by sprint and I see wut ur saying ..yes if u get lucky enough to get a rep to just blindly activate an evo then lucky u. ESN cloning is an (illegal) precaution cus believe it or not most of the reps do their job an will deny activation. but let's say they do activate it that way, everything is not gonna work like web an mms those settings HAVE to be manually altered.
The whole point is for boost to think u have one of there phones... any rep has the right to shut u down if they see an evo on ur account

Make an EVO 4G look like a 3g phone

I might be getting an EVO 4G as a warranty replacement for my hero and I live in Milwaukee, WI with no 4G service.
I need to know if anything on the evo goes out and says its a 4g phone other than imei/esn. If so what and can it be disabled or blocked?
Im sorry if this is way out of line. I just trying to gather information at this point.
Lol
As soon as you turn it on, Sprint makes sure you know it's 4G.
Sorry guys just had to ask.

Ill be getting the phone from best buy as a black tie replacement if i break my Hero.
So ill get the phone unactivated and sprint wont know unless i tell them i got a new phone. I just need to know if the 4g radio can be completely disabled to make the phone look like a Hero (except for the imei/esn).
So IF some how i could "transplant" aforementioned numbers (is this possible? I don't think so) Sprint would think im still using a 3g phone like the hero...
There is no sense in paying a premium for something that I am not able to use.
If Milwaukee ever goes 4G I would like to undo and needed hacks/mods so that I can register for service at that time.

I'm not concerned with the esn. I would only want to disabled the 4g part of the phone. I don't want it to phone home and say I'm an evolution 4g give me 4g.

Someone asking if things are possible is very different than asking about changing an IMEI number.
Your IMEI number is how the carrier recognizes what phone you have. In theory... if you changed that to match your Hero's number then they'd think it was your hero. That is presuming you never turned on your 4G.
The only issue is that I believe it is illegal in the US to spoof your IMEI number. This is a measure taken to allow carriers to block stolen phones from their networks. Makes sense. More info on IMEI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity
So sorry, you're going to be out of luck.
^^ And that's how you answer an OP's question, stay legal, and avoid being a ****.

Why is it you're not worried about Verizon having the MEID in their system? That is all you should be worried about. If it is not in their system, they will not allow the device on their network.
I can have it added.....so back to my original question.......can it be done??
I'm sure there's a way, you just won't have 4g. May need msl. Just use getprop to get it
Of course its Possible i have did for 2 Carriers in India why not Verizon, get your MEID added and be in touch be me.

Verizon won't stop you from using a Sprint phone, but they won't help you, either. Assuming the software radio itself isn't the problem, you're basically going to have to wait until there are AOSP kernel and Android builds for both the Epic and Fascinate, then figure out how they differ and hack an Epic build to incorporate the changes in the Fascinate build. Then copy over Verizon's own apps for things like voicemail.
If you need a new radio, all bets are off. AFAIK, radio firmware signed with Verizon's key won't install on a phone expecting Sprint's cert, and vice-versa. Unlike Android itself, the radio firmware is very, very encryption-locked, because it's basically impossible to get a phone with software radio past the FCC if it's not (unless you're only planning to sell it to licensed ham radio operators, and have the means to enforce it). I'm not sure whether it was possible to reflash Sprint WinMo phones to work on Verizon because the radios used the same firmware, because the radio firmware was signed by HTC in both cases, or because someone found a way to defeat the protection.
You'll probably have better luck if you try to get 1xRTT working before EVDO. I believe there's a small difference between the way Sprint and Verizon's EVDO works (one that's entirely due to software and not insurmountable, but might be the reason why Sprint phones doing data roaming on Verizon seem to be limited to 1xRTT, assuming it's not just a business decision by Verizon and/or Sprint to allow Sprint users to only roam at 1xRTT.
Has anyone been able to solve this? I have my epic for sale or trade for a verizon phone with no offers... So I'm curious if I can just take it to verizon with me.. since its bad ass..
I fixed the data not working on an epic flashed to cricket by changing the msl to 000000 and dialing *228 so maybe try that. If you can manage to find a cool vzw tech rep get them to go into switch view in acss, go to the data section and uncheck the box that requires validated shared secret data for data use. I would help you myself but I no longer work there. Directv has better benefits I wish you the best of luck bro.

if someone has a phone active already, they can extract the shared secret and write it to the Epic.
No radio firmware or ROM will make it work or not work.
lots of sprint phones are active on PagePlus. They will activate almost any CDMA device. PagePlus is a vzw MVNO.

It suddenly became against the rules to discuss using phones on different carriers? This is no different from discussing bringing a T-Mobile phone to AT&T and making things work -.- Sure there's no SIM card in this discussion and the technology is different, but that's it.
It is not against the rules. Only making a phone with a bad esn work is.
But this is a question and belongs in Q&A

Buying a EPIC Touch 4G setup for BoostMobile

I am buying a boostmobile configured Epic Touch4G, how do I restore it back to Sprint's network other then calling Sprint to configure the ESN to be setup on my line?
Thanks.
They might have stolen it which is why its on boost so if u try the esn will come back as bad...
Sent from my Epic Touch 4G using xda premium
As mentioned don't buy it, I guarantee it has a bad esn.
That said, it is one of the easiest phone do a repair on. Google for epic 4g default 16 digit password. You will need a donor phone that is activated on sprint. If your donor phone is old enough you maybe able to get all your programming info from ##data#. If not, use QPST copy the info. Your HA AAA password maybe a pain to get. Googling will tell you how to get that too.
It is very doable. I have my E4GT on my OG Sero plan.
Before you decide to buy or not, check the ESN.
You can check the ESN online at http://www.checkesnfree.com or call it in to Sprint C.S.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
The ESN is clean, but how do I restore it exactly to be on Sprint again? Any guides?
You aren't cloning so it should be easy. I would think that the settings are pretty close already. Activate from the website and follow the programming direction. That should get you going.
If not then if you have another sprint phone. Dial ##data# on both phones and just start copying the info from the donor to e4gt. You will need the msl/Spc code to enter the data on the e4gt. If you have the msl for the donor phone enter it too, it will show more info.
Forgot, makes sure the Meid in settings/ about phone are the same as under the battery. If not, its very easily fixed.
There's a little more to it then that. If you can't get your original AAA password (nv item 1192) then you will need a donor phone. Try a ##786# reset or flashing a new radio to hopefully reset your nv items. Without the AAA password, you will not be able to authenticate your 3g and will be stuck in 1x

Funny, I read the first post as saying he wants to put a previously boost converted E4GT back on Sprint. If you want to go the other way, google is your friend. You will have to piece the process together by reading threads for different phones. Horwardsforums and mobile-files.us may prove helpful. Keep in mind many forums are purging info regarding esn repairs for fear of legal action, so that aspect maybe a little tougher to find but it is out there.

[Q] Bring Epic to Ting Mobile by swapping esn?

My wife and I use our phones more for the smart phone functions, and maybe use 300-500 minutes, 500 texts a month. The ting mobile plans would save us $1000 a year, the problem is that you have to buy phones straight from them.
According to the Ting support, some of their customers have gotten around this problem by purchasing one of their cheap phones, and then cloning the ESN to their better sprint / verizon phone. Ting encourages this, but I need to figure out how to do it.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I tried to post the link to the ting support staff statement, but apparently I haven't posted on XDA enough yet. So to find the forum post, just highlight this (including the quotation marks) and google it:
"Is it possible to activate ex-Verizon or ex-Sprint smartphone on Ting?"
This is possible I'm sorry I don't have a how to but I'm here to give you some encouragement. This has been done on numerous different wireless carriers so if you figure out how it would be as simple as 1,2,3...
I think flashing to alternative carriers doesn't differ so if you look at the how to flash boost mobile or cricket here on xda and ask them ill link them to ya

Really man... you haven't seen the threads on how to do this for boost, virgin, and cricket? Those threads have been here since before I was a member... you're just not allowed to go into significant detail about it... as long as nobody explains how to do the esn switch you all should be alright... (btw there are TONS of guides on how to do this.... its basically the same for every carrier with minor changes here and there...) not hard to do and takes less than 20 minutes once you get it down... also if you would rather metro pcs or have one in your area most of their stores have a rep there that will do this for you... just don't pay them until they get data working!!!!

Should have no problem flashing the phone as long as both phones are cdma phones. Might be difficult getting mobile data and MMS working though. I am running an epic on virgin mobile and everything works except mms. I have gotten mms to send just can't receive it. As for the legality I made sure to zero out the esn on my old phone so both cant be active at same time. Might be a good idea to avoid the risk of being banned.

Entirely Possible
Yes, a Sprint phone on Ting would be easy to do. In your case, the Epic 4G phone by Samsung is incredibly easy to change the ESN on. All Samsung phones are really... especially on Verizon as their SPC codes are 000000. The standard Samsung SPC code unlock password though should work on Sprint Samsung phones. Google around for it.
The problem with all of this though is that you'll have to purchase a Ting phone in the first place. Now maybe you could purchase the feature phone that they have available and use that ESN, but using hundreds of megabytes on an ESN that is supposed to be a feature phone might be suspect in Ting's system. I'm not sure they would care though, but you would stick out like a sore thumb. Buying one of their smart phones seems to defeat the purpose of doing this as you would be left with a unusable smartphone that is probably better than your Epic 4G in the first place. You could take your Epic 4G to Boost. I admit, Ting rocks especially for more than one phone on a plan, but Boost isn't bad.
Don't go to Virgin Mobile. It is the same network as Sprint and Boost, but getting the phone on VM is difficult. You need the A-logins and Passwords that are difficult to get if you don't know what you are doing. Also, VM seems to more actively police their network for this type of use and if you don't have everything exactly copied from the donor phone you'll be noticed. No one really is sure what all needs to be copied over and after about 3 months or so the phone is usually noticed. It is kinda a mystery. I noticed that a person above said he has a phone on VM from another carrier. Might want to inquire with him though he said that he had several phones so maybe the little use of the VM phone is enabling him to skirt under the radar.
For the person looking for AT&T on Verizon... as already mentioned... not possible. I would look into using Red Pocket for AT&T's MVNO. You could also go to Simple Mobile, but would not get 3G data.
Let me know of anyone else has any questions...

Virgin Mobile isn't hard to do.. I wrote up the guide for us, the only ones having issues are the few who don't use the phone written on the guide, and many who do not bother reading the guide. I have heard boost is actually more tedious.

Yep there is and its a simple process. Just search for the many available guides for Flashing to Boost. You'll need a donor Boost phone of course.

You can flash phones with bad esns to other carriers. Mostly half the people on flashed phones have bad esn phones.

We don't talk about illegal activity here. I can tell you that you need a donor phone with a good esn, that's it. Google is your friend, it's not that hard. Don't try youtube for this, obviously you wont find videos there on how to do illegal things.
