So...I'm planning on converting to amonra 1.8 (hopefully it's the latest version) and I was wondering about the nandroids that I made on clockwork. How do I move my recoveries from clockwork to amonra? Or how would I backup and restore my old nandroids with amonra? Thanks.
I believe you'd have to switch back to clockwork to flash those nandroids. They won't transfer over.

Can someone confirm this? I read from somewhere that you can take the recovery in your SD card and rename and put it into amonra backup folder....

yes but how would I be ABLE to restore old nandroids with amonRA without having to keep flashing the recovery images each time?
:/
you would have to restore the back up then flash the alternate recovery and back up
Simple idea:
1) Restore Nandroid via Clockwork.
2) Use ROM Manager to flash Amon_RA.
3) Take Nandroid backup via Amon_RA.
4) Repeat as needed.
However, if you do something stupid which causes you to screw everything up (like using a Nandroid backup from another device), you're on your own.

I figure, thanks. I hate flashing all the time . I feel like my evo gets slower and slower each day. SMDH...

backup with RA restore with RA, backup with clockwork, restore with clockwork. They're not interchangable, and may not recognize each others backups.
Correct, but I should still be able to see the files in my memory card right? Because in nandroid folder I just see only one file..
I'm lovin' it!
What are you looking for the folders with? You may not be able to see the ra backups with clockwork, but if you use astro (or something similar) and look in the nandroid folder on the sdcard you should see a folder. Inside that folder are other folders with dates and times as the folder names. Each of those subfolders are ra backups.

Clockwork stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/clockworkmod
Amon_RA stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/nandroid
You can not restore a clockwork backup with Amon_RA. Or the other way.
Amon_RA wont recognize clockworks Nandroids.
Hopefully that answers your question.
Thank you very much everybody.. I was actually looking for clockwork backups in sdcard/nandroids thats why I couldn't see it.. Now I do see backups in clockwork folder.. My question is answered.. Thanks again everybody..
I'm lovin' it!
related question here:
are nandroid backups interchangable between devices(same model dif device: like two evos)?
example: can i AmonRa nandroid an Evo and then restore the other evo with that same nandroid? pretty much like trying to clone a device.

im not 100% sure but i think it should work, you can nand back the other device, then backup your memory card on your computer and transfer the backup file from your evo and give it a try, if it doesnt work for some reason then just copy files back from your computer,,
Ok so I've been using clockwork since I rooted but now I want to switch to Amon Ra cause I hear its better. The recovery works because I can back up and flash stuff, but for some reason I can't restore, it always says something went wrong, check the recovery log. Is it because I rename the backups?

It could be. If you rename a backup, it cannot have any spaces in the name, or any odd characters. I suggest renaming it to something simple, with no punctuation, and no spaces. Try that, and see if it'll restore.
didnt work :/
you arent trying to recover CWM backups with RA are you?
No, these are backups done through Amon Ra

What options did you select when creating the backup? You may want to try re flashing your recovery, and see if it works after that. Sometimes reflashing the recovery can clear up a bunch of odd recovery related issues.

For one of them I backed up all of it (clicked every check) and for another I only backed up the original 3 it selects for you; neither of them worked... Ok I'll try that
When you make a backup using amon RA, the name of the nandroid appears as such: BDAS-20110509-0440. The prefix tells you what was backed up. For instance, the BDAS in the above example tells me that I made a backup of the boot, data, android.secure and system. Because I flash a lot of roms, I rename my backups in this manner: BDAS-SALVAGEMOD-0440. If you don't add any special characters, your backup should restore if you've renamed it. If your renamed backup is similar to mine and it still fails to restore then I recommend that you re-flash amon RA as suggested by my good friend k2buckley. Specifically, v2.3. You can download it from the link below.

Alright thanks a lot guys it worked when I re-flashed the recovery through bootloader. For some reason, ROM manager isn't flashing recoveries for me anymore.

Some users have had issues with rom manager "not flashing correct," but I've never had a problem with it. Glad its working though.
Hi Guys,
I Rooted my HTC Desire using Unrevoked Here
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...nrevoked-windows-updated-20th-may-2011-a.html
after that I saw AR-Recovery (via recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img) and there I created a Nandroid Backup. After creating a backup I saw Nandroid folder made in my SD card with backup inside.
Last night I S-OFF my HTC desire using AphaRev 1.08 and when it asked to isntall CWM Recovery during process, I replied YES..
Now I have CWM Recovery, when I go to it to restore my ROM, it cant locate and use my Previouis backups created with AR-Recovery.
Any Way I can restore those backups since I had lots of applications and settings done with that and I cant go through the whole process from Zero again....
And If I restore the backups when I created before S-OFF, will that turn my Phone S-ON again?
Well, you can flash AmonRa via Fastboot Commander.
Or with unrevoked V3.21

I dont know why ppl are mad about CWM Recovery?
I would love to flash AmonRA Recovery.. its just amazing... creates and restores backup so quick.. CWM takes so much time... But still I will install CWM recovery because it ahs become universal recovery
Is there any way I can one time Restore my backup restored with AmonRA recov ery without flashing it? Like some Fastboot stuff..?

This issue is intimately tied to the inner workings of the recoveries which are obviously different. I don't believe that it's a good idea to restore backups made with a different recovery.
If you restore an amonra backup with clockworkmod or reverse, you will get an usb brick.

ok I might just flash AmonRa recovery.. can anyone give me a link on how to do that?

Not the case for me, I made a backup with the backup/restore feature running ClockWorkMod 2.6.0.1 (somewhere around that version ) and was successfully able to restore it using ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.1.

1. Has the backup somehow become corrupt?
2. Are you restoring it from a different evo?

Restoring backup has nothing to do with unrooting anyway. When you run the ruu, its going to wipe everything. And next time, use amon ra

Because the system data will be different, and can and most likely will cause problems.
The best thing too do is backup your launcher settings and apps via titanium, then restore them on the new evo, though when restoring the app, ONLY do apps+data, NOT system settings.
The problem lies within your first post you cannot wipe boot with clockwork. You need to download and flash vrsuperwipe or calkulins format all. Then restore your backup because it is failing to flash your boot.img on top of an unwiped boot.

I'm going to repeat what I just said; it doesn't matter. When you unropot, everything will be wiped anyway. You will loose your data and have no way of getting it back unless you back up apps and texts before running ruu
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.

when i rooted my evo about a week ago i followed instructions to the t for the ENERGY sense rom. i use revolution-0.4 i think that included clockwork mod for the custom recovery. i was thinking of switching to amon ra recovery. can i jsut download and flash it or will that cause problems? if so what do i need to do prior to switching recovery tools?
All you need to do to switch recoveries is download Amon Ra. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip. Then put it on the root of your sdcard. Boot into bootloader and it will ask you to update, press volume up for "yes" and bam your done. Then delete the PC36IMG.zip. (if it doesn't ask you to update when you boot into the bootloader, start your phone back up and remove the ".zip" from the recovery you renamed.

Remember that if you have any backups with your current recovery, theres a chance the new one will not be able to verify the MD5SUM and restore your current backups.

Theres a strong possibility, they are 2 different recoveries.I know from experience a few times, but then again weirder things have happened, all i can say is you can try.
