Hi all .. i did a nandroid backup, 3 times, whenever i would restore it, it would show me 3 options, and then i changed to RA recovery from clockwork. now i see only one backup file the one i did before changing that. and then i changed back to clockwork and i still dont see anything..
i did search, and what i found was that how to unlock nandroid, so im sorry if i missed it in search.

backup with RA restore with RA, backup with clockwork, restore with clockwork. They're not interchangable, and may not recognize each others backups.

Correct, but I should still be able to see the files in my memory card right? Because in nandroid folder I just see only one file..
I'm lovin' it!

What are you looking for the folders with? You may not be able to see the ra backups with clockwork, but if you use astro (or something similar) and look in the nandroid folder on the sdcard you should see a folder. Inside that folder are other folders with dates and times as the folder names. Each of those subfolders are ra backups.

Clockwork stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/clockworkmod
Amon_RA stores Nandroid backups in /sdcard/nandroid
You can not restore a clockwork backup with Amon_RA. Or the other way.
Amon_RA wont recognize clockworks Nandroids.
Hopefully that answers your question.

Thank you very much everybody.. I was actually looking for clockwork backups in sdcard/nandroids thats why I couldn't see it.. Now I do see backups in clockwork folder.. My question is answered.. Thanks again everybody..
I'm lovin' it!

related question here:
are nandroid backups interchangable between devices(same model dif device: like two evos)?
example: can i AmonRa nandroid an Evo and then restore the other evo with that same nandroid? pretty much like trying to clone a device.

im not 100% sure but i think it should work, you can nand back the other device, then backup your memory card on your computer and transfer the backup file from your evo and give it a try, if it doesnt work for some reason then just copy files back from your computer,,

I have never tried it but I have read that you can. It shouldn't mess anything up since its an exact image of the phone.
Yes, to the best of my knowledge that should work fine.
Not sure where nandroid is saved for RA but for CW, the backup is here:
/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/*dateofbackupfolder*
That folder with the backup is what should be transfered.

rom manager and nandroid?

i did a backup on nandroid AND rom manager, but i heard its the same, but my question is, say i didnt do a nadroid backup, and only a rom manager backup, how would i access the one from rom manager and restore that one if something went wrong with the os?
Assuming you could still boot into your ClockworkMod recovery (power + volume down) the backup would be on a folder in your SD card, and CWM would find it automatically. You could do a full data wipe and still recovery using the backup files, they don't reside on the phone's internal memory. And, yes, they are the same thing.
so i can delete my nandroid backup?
ROM Manager performs a nandroid backup through recovery.

It just adds the new backup. You have to manually delete the older nandroid backups if you want them gone.

That doesn't mean your SD card's been wiped. Flash the recovery image again and try again.
Just in case your card really is wiped, there are plenty of tools to restore date that was wiped. I remember searching google for a digi cam data restore after a gf accidentally wiped her pictures & was able to restore them all after running it.

So you're trying to restore a clockword nand backup in RA?
Whichever recovery you did your nandroid in you have to use to restore. Ra won't see what you backed up in clockwork and vice versa.

This may come off as mean, but do people read anymore? I can't count how many phones, computers, guitars & video game consoles I've modded & had maybe 1 break. And it wasn't even my first one. I just got lazy.
Also, make backups of your backups. All my nandroid backups take up about 400 megs of space. So if you get a 4 gig sd card at Best Buy (12 bucks), you can have 13 backups on that card. Worth it.

Good point. If you backup your nands from sd to computer, you can restore the nand using adb.
I think there needs to be a general help sub forum so the dev forum doesn't get littered with this noob trash all the time.

While we all start somewhere, I agreed a sub would be nice.
First of all
How hard is it to just answer his question instead of flaming him?
Anyway in my experience if you rename the nandroid backup when using Amon Ra recovery it will get that error. Also if your battery isn't charged up enough it will get the same error. Just remember that the files are in numerical order, the higher the number the more recent the nandroid backup.
guys sure this is the wrong section for this sort of question but all he has to do is charge his battery and then do the nandroid restore.
I had the same issue the other day and had never run into this error. Granted I did a search and found the answer. If your battery is too low you will get this error.
charge it up and then try the nandroid restore again.
+1 deonjahy
We were/all noobs at some point
Sadly the dev section is the section that gets the most traffic so I can see every now and again posting in here without thinking.

Ra recover

Just want to ask a ? if anyone can help.I am reading alot about clockwork and ra recover.if you change from clock and use ra will your old backup still work with ra?
If you have Ra and all of you back ups were made with Ra; they will work.
@evolishesh, that's not what the OP is asking....
I suspect the backups will work since the format is likely the same, just the front end/UI is different between the recoveries.

I have to disagree...
Ra recovery can only restore a backup made with Ra recovery.
Clockwork can only restore a backup made with Clockwork.
If you change from one to the other, make a backup with the new recovery, right away.
Don't they both use .img files for the partition images though?
They do. If you look inside the recovery files, they LOOK identical.
I am not the guy to tell you WHY they don't use each others files -- I don't know the nuts and bolts of it. But I can tell you that they don't...
Lol... I don't have the time to test this today, but if you (or someone else) has a chance; create a backup with both, then do a binary compare of the resulting .img files. This will tell us for sure if the images are the same or not.
Note, it is very important not to boot into the phone when creating either backup set. Instead, fastboot should be used to flash the other recovery, then boot directly into and perform another backup. Otherwise, data will change between the backup sets, making this test useless.

Nandroids not working... help?

Apologies for what is probably an often asked question, but the search seems to be down at the moment. I'm currently running Ras 2.3 and when I make a nandroid backup of my MIUI, it always runs into an error when trying to restore? I don't even know where to begin looking for solutions to the issue, is this a common thing? Should I just re-flash Ras or something?
Seems the backup was corrupted, reflash your recovery, then make a new one.
Yeah every backup I do seems to get corrupted. I'll try reflashing AmonRa.

Let me know how it goes. Also make sure to have at least ~500mb available for a backup.
So I finally re-flashed AmonRa 2.3, and my nandroids STILL show an error! It gets like one dot into resotring and says "oops! an error occurred, check the logs" or something like that. What is happening
first thing would be to check your memory card to see if you have enough space like the post above says. if that doesn't work move the recovery.log via your recovery screen to the sd card and post it here. that should get some questions answered.
edit: also i had this happen to me a couple times when trying to restore it only happened when i changed big things like the radio or the hboot or switching from aosp to sense. that kinda stuff. you might just need to start over and flash a new rom. good thing you used titanium...right? p.s. just relized you were trying to restore not backup so the memory card issue shouldn't apply sry.
I have my MIUI backup so it's not so much of a big deal since that works, but I'd like to have a 100% working nandroid backup in the event that I wanna try out a new rom. Where to I find the recovery log so that I may post it up on here? Thanks for the help guys, I'd be lost without xda
So I just tried moving my recovery log to the SD card and I got the same message, "Oops... something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!"
WTF is going on here?
Potential causes and solutions:
Corrupt SD card. You're screwed, reformat SD card and flash the rom over again.
Corrupt Nandroid file. You're screwed, delete from SD card and flash the rom over again.
Corrupt Recover. Download Rom Manager and re-flash recovery (if you use clockwork, flash alternate then back to clockwork or vice versa if you use amon ra). If this doesn't work, it's likely one of the two above.
However, this is usually the problem when they mess up.
Is there a space in the name of the Nandroid backup? Nandroid backups can NOT EVER have a space in the title. Go into your favorite file manager and remove the space if it has one and it should work just fine.
For example:
MikFroyo 4.61 is NOT an acceptable name. There's a space between the o and the 4.
KonisEliteSeriesIII IS an acceptable name. Notice, there's no spaces.
Hit the thanks button if I helped. Toodles!
Don't use ROM Manager to reflash Amon Ra. Just use the PC36IMG
Trust me on this.
Is it possible that your original nandroids were with clockwork and now that you have updated to amon that they will not work?
Okay so I've re-flashed Amon Ra and reformatted my SD card and I STILL can't get the nandroids to work or my recovery log to move over to the SD card! I've only used Amon Ra for as long as I've been rooted, and nandroids previously worked. Also, these are nandroids that I made within the last 2 weeks or so, they're not old and I have not renamed them. Should I maybe try an older version of AmonRa or something?
OMG I figured it out! Here's the story:
So I bought a new SD card a few weeks back and put it in with just a straight copy of my old SD card in there. This included my nandroid folder. I had been making backups and deleting old backups, but the folder under sdcard/nandroid/HT089HL02240 simply needed to be deleted. I kept sdcard/nandroid, deleted HT089HL02240, then made a new nandroid so that the recovery could simply make this folder itself. Somehow this worked, I don't know why, but it seemed like it might help being that you can't restore nandroids between phones. Perhaps the recovery thought I was attempting to do this, given the SD card switch. Well it works now!
