funny as I only found this today...
I had been backing up with htc sync to outlook.
but found when i reimported them in - I was missing 6 contacts.
tried the same with the export/import
all contacts - but it has put a '-' in all the phone numbers
i.e. 07000000000 becomes 070-000-00000
im pretty sure if you have a google account and you sync your contacts it should be saved in your gmail and then you just sync again after you wipe/flash rom/switch phones (given its android) and it should work.

To solve your phone number problem.. you should edit your contact and use a +31 (country code) first.. In the future.. this will stay the same when importing.
Ah - thanks - good tip!

yes there s a quick way.
1. Make sure that you've configured your facebook account at settings->my ocntact card
2. go to all all people, then choose the 3rd icon "updates and Events"
3. Use this page to all TP2 to auto search facebook contacts to match with existing contacts (this assumes taht you've synced your phone and updated your contaacts already. thsi should be done before step 1)

Yes and I have to do that 177 times, I'm just looking for a easier method.
Also there is another reality, not all of my contacts are stored in the same name as their Facebook accounts :
For example..... "Richard Mobile" as seen on my phone, but on his Facebook it shows Richard XXXX , so I must manually link the contact to facebook link.
The very best idea is to copy some files before Rom Update and then Replace these files with the new ones after the Rom Update.
I need to know which files are these ???

Mine did it one pass with minimal intervention. It knew which ones weren't synced and made it made a best-guess and presented me with a list of them all in one go.
I suspect the Facebook integration is done via a hidden field in the Contact. If you can determine that you can reset it to force it.
just backup your facebookinfo.vol and pim.vol. Tried it and works.

This sounds interesting, can you confirm all contacts linked perfectly and updating correctly as it should do ?

I Don't even have anything to show a link with facebook in my people tab. On other HTC phones I have seen an "updates and events" tab, should this be present on the TP2?
I would like to retrieve the details from my Facebook frields list etc, but I can't see anyway of doing this in the people tab

Hello,
Just wanted to use the Gingerbread custom ROM, which worked the best for me on my phone, however after some time of using HTC Desire with original ROM(Or later from ReflexTSense) I got pretty much used to the PEOPLE application, which links contacts from Facebook and Gmail together, now when I install the Gingerbread ROM, I do really miss this application. Is there somewhere application that does the same thing? Or better, is this application available for Gingerbread somehow? I tried to look, but no luck as of yet.
Thanks for replys
I'm using Oxygen 2.0 RC7 which I think has the standard Gingerbread contacts app. There is a way to link accounts but it is not as obvious... Here's how when viewing a contact...
Menu > Edit Contact > Menu > Join
Doesnt work, Installed REDUX ROM (RC6) go to contacts, hit menu button, and then theres button 'accounts' so I click that and then I have two accounts, Gmail and Facebook in there, both of them are synced, but Facebook contacts wont shop up in my list

you read his responce wrong. you need to be IN the contacts info, then follow what he said.. Menu > Edit Contact > press Menu Again > and click Join.. this will then bring up your list off all your contacts on your phone.. you can join as many as you like by following the procedure again.
If your problem is that your Facebook contacts arent showing up.. that is a different problem all together.. You need to go into your Accounts and Sync settings, choose your FB account, and check Sync Contacts.. In the FB app, you need to goto Settings, and at the very bottom is Sync Contacts, set it to ALL. Next time your phone sync's it'll add all your contacts and their info, you can then follow the previous instructions to link them.
This was weird, I had done it just as you said earlier as well, and it didnt show up, so I went step by step and followed what you wrote, and kaboom, my contacts are there... brilliant, thank you

And here goes another one, I'd like to sync calendar with facebook birthdays, just like its on sense calendar... any tips?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Unfortunately, that you can't do. You need a seperate app for that.. there are a couple on the market. Alternatively, if you have a yahoo account you can log into that, import everything from fb including birthdays.. then log into google contacts ands import it from yahoo and it will take the bdays
Those are the only ways I've found at least..

Do you have some app that you could recomend? I dont have yahoo account, but guess, that if I wont get any other choice, I'll create one...

I can't seem to find any option on how to sort contacts by last name.
I don't want to exchange First <-> Last names in Outlook and then sync.
Do you know of another way?

I dont know if it works on the Wildfire S, but on my HTC Legend, ill just export those Outlook contacts to GMail Web and force it to sync with my phone. That should work.

My Wildfire S has this option. Open "People" App, then choose Settings -> View -> Sort contact list -> Last Name
Thanks for your replies!
Problem solved!
Anyone knows how to change phone (unsync) contacts into Google contacts without creating new ones on CM7? I am really bored to do that for all my contacts.

not exactly sure if I understand you right do you mean contacts from a different phone which cannot sync with Google? If so: can you get an internet connection with the other phone? Because a lot of (non-android) phones can sync with Google contacts, too.
If you can't do that, I'd guess export and import into Google would be the best bet. Google supports a lot of formats to do so - csv, outlook specific csv and vcard - details here: https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=14024

now I seem to be really confused lol: if you want to make contacts of your phone Google contacts you have to *sync* then instead of unsync - what am I missing?

Well, there are only two three conditions this could happen: 1) if someone not in your contacts calls you and you don't add him to your contacts (but that's only a phone number then), 2) if the contacts are on your SIM only (to be honest I'm just assuming so - haven't tested), 3) if you disable syncing or are not logged into your Google account - right - or am I still missing something?
On cm7 when you add a new contact, it used to ask whether to save it as google or phone contact.

Ah, I see - too bad, seems I haven't added any contacts manually when I used CM7 (I use Google apps on the PC for a long time now - usually I do the contact entries there...)
Thx for enlightment (and if this is the case exporting and import to Google contacts should be the way to go).
Well, i bit the bullet and purchased a Galaxy Nexus to upgrade from my Touch Pro 2.
Problem is im having a hell of a time importing my contacts from the old phone to the new. I got them on the Sim ok, and they Show up on android, problem is it split all of the numbers so i have 2, 3 or 4 of the same contact. It splits Home, Mobile, and Work numbers into individual contacts instead of merging them like they should be. You would think it would be smart enough to see the same name and think "oh, these are all the same person."
is there any way to merge them without having to manually edit each individual contact?
If I recall correctly, try going into gmail on your PC and look for your contacts. There's an option to merge the ones that repeat.
Or use the customize option on the phone: people > menu > contacts to display
