Just wanted to use the Gingerbread custom ROM, which worked the best for me on my phone, however after some time of using HTC Desire with original ROM(Or later from ReflexTSense) I got pretty much used to the PEOPLE application, which links contacts from Facebook and Gmail together, now when I install the Gingerbread ROM, I do really miss this application. Is there somewhere application that does the same thing? Or better, is this application available for Gingerbread somehow? I tried to look, but no luck as of yet.

I'm using Oxygen 2.0 RC7 which I think has the standard Gingerbread contacts app. There is a way to link accounts but it is not as obvious... Here's how when viewing a contact...
Menu > Edit Contact > Menu > Join
Doesnt work, Installed REDUX ROM (RC6) go to contacts, hit menu button, and then theres button 'accounts' so I click that and then I have two accounts, Gmail and Facebook in there, both of them are synced, but Facebook contacts wont shop up in my list

you read his responce wrong. you need to be IN the contacts info, then follow what he said.. Menu > Edit Contact > press Menu Again > and click Join.. this will then bring up your list off all your contacts on your phone.. you can join as many as you like by following the procedure again.
If your problem is that your Facebook contacts arent showing up.. that is a different problem all together.. You need to go into your Accounts and Sync settings, choose your FB account, and check Sync Contacts.. In the FB app, you need to goto Settings, and at the very bottom is Sync Contacts, set it to ALL. Next time your phone sync's it'll add all your contacts and their info, you can then follow the previous instructions to link them.
This was weird, I had done it just as you said earlier as well, and it didnt show up, so I went step by step and followed what you wrote, and kaboom, my contacts are there... brilliant, thank you

And here goes another one, I'd like to sync calendar with facebook birthdays, just like its on sense calendar... any tips?

Unfortunately, that you can't do. You need a seperate app for that.. there are a couple on the market. Alternatively, if you have a yahoo account you can log into that, import everything from fb including birthdays.. then log into google contacts ands import it from yahoo and it will take the bdays
Those are the only ways I've found at least..

How do i update contacts that are linked to facebooks profiles pictures in the desire?
some people have updated their profile pictures in facebook but i cant get my desire to recognise the new profle pictures.
I would like see if is possible that when you browse phone book that you see facebook images on contact is this possible? I see images only on contacts which do not have phone contact added...

dont they update automatically when you sync with facebook?
thats what i thought but i couple of my phonebook entries that are linked to facebook contacts still have old profile pics, i was wondering whether there was a way to manually refresh the pictures.
You have to sign out of facebook for htc sense and sign back in.

Im try logout and login but do not help.
Im do next and work:
1.)Go to contact and view it.
2.)Go to "photos" tab.
3.)Click "Link Facebook profile" and select contact from facebook friends
4.)It will sync and update photos wit facebook photos.
I hope that this is good way to do this
Unlink and relink should also work.
Also if you in contact see Link 1 or something like this and not linked then this is reason you can also click on this link 1 and select facebook profile and it will link this contact together...

It doesn't work for me..My friends updated their profile pictures but the contact pics still show the old ones...I tried log out and log in fb again but still not working.
Sorry I should have explained better. Go to settings and then accounts and sync and then go to facebook and select to remove the account and then sign back in. it should update all your contact photos.

hey guys so its my first time using sense, so bear with me, how do you do the auto contacts linking with facebook? stock android does it pretty well where if the name matches identically it'll pull facebook info like pictures and stuff to supplement your contacts. on Sense I can't figure out how to do that. Only way i got it to link was to link it manually in every contact which is a huge pain in the ass.
Go to Accounts and Sync and add a Facebook account. You should have had the option in the initial setup also.

yea did that since first boot, it syncs the contacts, but its not linking it. what I mean by that is when you go through your contacts list, it doesn't show their facebook pictures n stuff.. until you manually go through each contact n link it with their facebook profiles. Its really quite stupid. Stock android does this wonderfully btw
This has always worked flawlessly for me so I can't really help you on that one.

In the contacts app go to the updates page, and it'll show partial matches, hit that and it gives you a checklist of everyone to sync with facebook.
i don't see an updates page, and by contacts do you mean people?
Using oxygen 2.0 and so far VERY impressed, however one small snag, I'm struggling to find how to manually link Facebook contacts with Android contacts (for picture purposes)
Since this is my first "Sense-less" ROM I'm a bit lost
Any help would be appreciated!

Download the Facebook app, go into the settings of the app and choose the syncing option which allows you to link phone contacts with contacts. It will only link some contacts that have similar names, or you can do it manually by going into you phone contact, menu, edit, press menu again and press join. This will allow you to link your contact with a Facebook contact. Hope that wasn't confusing for you.

Yes it is. SenseUI makes it a lot easier to set up. You just got to get use to Android
Took me a while to figure out how to do that. It is only because Android doesn't come with Facebook installed. Once you install it, you can sync it. That is why it is easier on SenseUI because it is already there.

A bit new to the forums, but I'm having a biggg headache with contacts on my phone. Went from a Sense ROM to meXdroid and now my contacts are a mess! There's duplicates of hundreds of contacts, and Facebook automatically synced everything (I forgot to turn it off..). I want my contacts to sync with Facebook data, as in their pictures on my phone sync with the profile pic of their FB profile.
I cannot find a reliable way to merge duplicate contacts, as well as link FB profiles to my contacts! Exactly how does FB decide which profile to link to which contact? Some contacts I have have 2-3 phone numbers as separate contact entries, (Bob 1, Bob 2, Bob 3 being the same person), but only want FB to sync the profile pic to 1 of those contacts?

Select a contact (Bob) you want to merge with another contact (Bob1), select menu, then edit, then menu again, and then join; from there select the contact you want to join it with (Bob1). You'll also be able to join Facebook contacts to your regular contacts this way.

Do note that I'm not on a Sense ROM. I'll try with the next update of meXdroid.

Neither am I, that's how it should work on anything based off of AOSP; worked like that on my stock "with Google" ROM as well as on CM7.

Hi Team,
I have differenced between sycronising in roms 2.3.5 and cm7.. When I have installed 2.3.5 automatically face book and my gmail accounts will get syhncronise with contact photos but in cm7 its not syncronising the contact photos.. Can anyone guide how to go head..I have used contacts syncronise from the market but no use..Please help me.
Sync the Facebook app probably.

Nah you're in the right section.
I think I know what you mean. Like in Sense it will prompt you to link similar contacts so Facebook, whatsapp, twitter, gmail etc are on the same contact.
You can do that in CM7 but you have to do it manually for each contact.
When looking at a regular Google contact in your phone book, press menu and choose 'edit contact', then once in the edit mode, press the menu button again and select 'Join'. You can then choose other accounts to join to that account.
TBH My contacts got really f****d up by using the join in CM7 and people had random other accounts attached to them after moving from stock to CM7 so I reset all contacts and only used my google accounts in my phone book and use each respective application to use different accounts. CM7 is such a better ROM though that I don't miss that functionality as I'm not hugely bothered about having peoples pictures on the contact. You can always apply pictures manually if you get bored one evening!
