Is there a way that when I root my g2 that I can unlock for use with ATT or whatever? Or will I have to get a code?

Use gfree. And next time, use Q&A.

Well you can always do the gfree method or call t-mobile and tell them your going overseas. Then tell them that you have another sim card that you will use. They will give you the unlock codes in the next day or two. Oh yea wrong section bro.

My parents are going to England. We live in the US. I used the cyanogen/xda method to root.
Is it already carrier unlocked? I only have Tmobile sim cards, unfortunately, the new sim will come from England. So I'd like some verification that it's unlocked before they take it on a trip.
How would I unlock it if it's not? I'm running a recent andromadus rom

I think I used gfree, which seems to unlock it, I'm going to try to get a sim from something non-Tmobile.
Open to suggestions about how to test unlock

To check if your phone is sim unlocked you can run the gfree check through adb, or you could borrow a friends sim card from another carrier.

I don't think the unlocked version has the LTE radios for T-Mobile

If the phone is AT&T, you will need to put in a different carrier sim , it will ask you to enter the code.

The Tmobile M9 and S6 need to be unlocked differently. You need to have paid for the phone in full and had tmobile service for 40 days. Then call tmobile and they'll unlock it.
If you want to get around that you have to flash a international rom (its in the dev section) and then you can use your code.
Side note...I thought you had tmobile?
