Is this me doing it wrong or is there some bug? I'm able to install roms just not this one.
EDIT: i've tried the desireZ rom aswell and that failed. I also noticed the line "E:Can't mount SDEXT:" and tried an sd card with an ext3 partition but it then failed to mount the fat32 (/sdcard) partition but was able to mount the ext partiton (/sd-ext). From what I've been reading its because it doesn't have an ext partition, but as I said when I do it then doesn't mount the non-ext partition.
I too was having similar issues and found that re-partitioning and formatting the card did the trick. Also I had a 700mb partition before which I have increased to 1gb.

Had the same problem myself.I ended up putting a stock rom on to access market place, installed rom manager which I partitioned with then ran hd rom and it worked.Only problem I have now is its stuck in a boot loop lol and not sure how to fix it but hey good luck.
Cool. Got it to work, using stigslim's method of using ROM manager had a slight issue with it saying the Rom wasn't signed but I turned off the verification then it worked fine. No boot loop.did use the wrong SD card though. *Facepalm*
thanks
Can you tell me what procedure you went through in recovery, if I follow your tracks I might get rid of the restart problem I have.cheers

what did u do ?
Exact same error as I got yesterday.. had to restore my sd card and restore to previous state. I assume there's something causing this rom to fail.

perhaps something was corrupted in the copying process over to your new card. try putting the zip (verified not corrupt, check the md5) on again.
also verify that you are not putting on a file named something.zip.zip
if you have file extensions hidden in windows, and it still says .zip, that means you have a file with an extra .zip on the end of it.
Hi guys. I hate to open an old thread, but figured it was the lesser of 2 evils with the other option being to create a new one.
I am suffering the same problem as the OP, with the slight difference that my issue is solely related to the leedroid rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
I can safely flash all my nandroid backup roms from clockwork, I can flash the modaco r9 rom i had on there previously. I can flash all the themed zips I have downloaded in anticipation of getting leedroid up and running (they don't work make any difference to my existing rom due to not having leedroid, but they flash fine and then i nandroid after since I was just flashing them to check flashing was working).
The issue is when i try to flash leedroid it just says bad zip. I've downloaded it 4 times, both direct from dropbox and via torrents. I've checked with md5 checker and it's fine. I've unzipped it myself to verify the integrity. I've renamed it to remove the period thinking it might be an extension issue. I've toggled the check signature setting thing. I've run a full file system check on the fat32 partition of my sdcard, i've let it do a full bad sector scan. I'm literally out of ideas.
Edit: In case others stumble upon this, the solution for me was to scrap the partitions on my SD card and start over. I used the proper sdformatter from the official sdcard site to create a FAT partition using up the entire disk, then used gparted to resize that partition leaving 512mb at the end to fit my ext3 in there. The official sdcard formatter leaves 4mb of unallocated space at the start of the disk, I left this there as I didn't want to mess with it. Once my new partitions were setup, I can again flash ROMS from the sdcard. So although there was a proper FAT32 partition on there previously that seemed to be working fine, for some reason it wasn't.

same problem,,pls could anybody have an idea how can it be fix??pls...thanks,,,cant flash any rom from sd card,,
SOLVED.
If you get the message: “Can’t Open /sdcard/******.zip (bad)” when installing:
-Extract the SD, format in computer(fat32)
-copy the .zip in fresh sd
-boot with xRecovery and install.
-reboot
-(may be you get a frozen boot, so do:
-reboot with xRecovery
-wipe full reboot
-Everything’s ok!!
Do extract the SD Card while the phone is still in Recovery? Are there any clearer instructions?

I just encountered this problem a couple days ago. I had to physically take the card out of the phone, put it in a card reader, and then mount the card reader in my pc. I used Windows to format the card to FAT32 (that will erase everything). Once I formatted, the phone was able to read the sd card just fine again.
I am trying to instal a custom rom (RCMixHD_v014_OF) to my HTC Desire.
At first I had my phone rooted, then I downloaded rom manager and I backed up my rom,and then I tried to install with rom manager and it didn't work,it also didn't work when I tried to install it through the recovery mode.I try to install it and it says:

You need an EXT3 partition for that ROM, sounds like you've not got one

Yep. Agreed. Sounds Like No EXT Try (Re)partioning using something like GParted live CD or Paragon Partition Manager

Hi,
I was flashing the latest Miui gingerbread rom and accidently flashed the X-Parted data2ext version, instead of my usual d2w, Since flashing and running the d2ext rom I have been getting this error whilst trying to flash a stable rom(Miui gingerbeard not stable),
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(file exists)
Error mounting /sd-ext/!
Skipping format...
I have formatted ext partition manually through g-parted, deleted partition and re-partitioned formatted the entire sd card changed ext types but as yet cannot remove the problem, I have had the same issue before with Miui, but formatting solved it.
I have also tried googling this but none of the solutions match my problem nor are they particularly easy to follow.
Can any1 help??

happens, when card is not partitioned/wrongly partitioned.
If you use Gparted first create the FAT32 partition and then the EXT partition(s). And make all of the PRIMARY, not logical.
Hi All,
I searched for this, and didn't see anything, so please forgive me if this has been covered before...
My son has an Incredible that was updated to Evervolv last month (I'd tell you the exact build, but...). The day before yesteday, it crashed with the error message saying process android.phone has stopped. The screen was unresponsive at that point, and the phone wouldn't shutdown by holding the power button down (tried holding it for over a minute, and nothing...). I pulled the battery and tried to restart the phone. Everything seemed to be booting normal, but he'd immediately get either the "process.android.phone has stopped" or "process.android.media has stopped" (or both in succession), and the phone would then freeze. Pulled the battery again and booted into recovery (CM ver. 5.0.2.0) to wipe cache and Dalvik cache, but am getting errors there as well:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I did try to wipe the cache and Dalvik cache, and it seemed to do that OK (at least, doing so didn't throw any other errors), but that didn't fix the bootloop problem. Next, tried to do a factory reset from recovery. Got the following results:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /datadata...
E:format_volume: no MID partition "datadata"
Formatting /sd-ext...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext. (No problem -- no SD card installed)
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
Rebooted, and still stuck in bootloop...
So, any ideas on what I should try next to get this phone up and running again? I haven't run into this much trouble with this phone before.
Thanks, and Saludos!

Ehh... No luck. Tried copying another ROM to an external sd card, and CWM won't mount the external SD card. Tried renaming the ROM UPDATE.ZIP and got this error:
Code:
E:unknown volume for path [SDCARD:update.zip]
E:can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
any other ideas, or is this one a goner?
I'd try changing to the latest TWRP. The newer CWM never played well with my phone.
Will try that this evening. Need to configure ADB on my laptop, though, since I can't seem to mount emmc or external sd card right now.
Thanks for the advice.

Yep, tried two other SD cards with no luck. Can't get the phone to mount either of them, though they were freshly formatted. Also can't get ADB to see this phone to push anything to it. Gonna retire it, I guess...
Thanks to all for the recommendations!

Thanks. I've decided to retire this phone -- the failure to boot was really the last straw for it.
Hi, i didn't use my m8 for a while. I had flashed a Liquid-Smooth Lollipop-Rom and wanted to setup the phone again until i noticed that the external SD card is not mounted and not recognized at all.
SD card itself is not the issue, i tried it on different phones and computers, it worked all fine, formatted it in FAT32 etc.. It's working on any other system, but not with the m8. Also other cards are not working with the phone.
I tried PhilzRecorvery and TWRP and the Cyanogenmod 12+13 (using adb sideload), no changes at all.
My Phone is S-ON, at the moment i use TWRP v2.8.7.0 and Cyanogenmod 12.1.
Using the partitioning function of TWRP it says
E: Unable to locate device or partition

If i go to the Wipe menue and select "Micro SDcard" and "SD-Ext" it says:

I hope these are all the necessary infomations. I am not very experienced in modding android, but at least i know how to flash roms and the basic sdk-plattform tools, whatever.
Thank you very much and please be kind, i am not an expert!
