I wish so bad I could have one of these quick keys as the back button but you can't, if there was a app that did that we could just assign that app....
Anyone else wish one could be set as the back button?
+1
i agree. it'd be useful

Hi, I was wondering if I could remap the trackpad button on my Droid Incredible to the home button. Kind of like how if you press the center button on the iPhone, it goes back to the home screen. Is this possible? and I do not want to flash another ROM. Thanks.
Uhm, this phone already has a "home" button.....

can't we just answer the question? sometimes ppl. I would assume if he has a dinc he knows about the home shaped icon under the screen there, with that said I've never seen this question asked b4 but would assume no bcuz of already in place "home" button

I know there is a button, but I want to use the track pad button for the same function.
I think this would be useful as well.

Look at the Optical joy stick wake thread. It's in the keymap file somewhere. I don't know what all you can remap it too but I know they remapped it to wake the device (though inconstantly but thats a sleeping problem)
Just a thought, but would you not loose all of the intended functionality as a result of doing this? For instance, how would you take a picture or record a video?
I have ruby rom so there already is a record button or camera button on the screen itself so it's not a problem.
-steve
Redemption rom use to have a tweak that let you hold down the search button key and it would start the camera application. This was done by editing the incredible-keypad.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout and changing the line "key 217 SEARCH WAKE_DROPPED" to "key 217 CAMERA WAKE_DROPED" i figure you could add a line "key 232 HOME WAKE_DROPPED" and get the home to open when the trackpad was pressed, but that didn't worked.
I've been trying to remap my trackpad to camera since I rooted my phone and still can't get the working. I hope this thread will spread some light on how to properly remap the DPAD_CENTER button.

Those two aplications remove the need for the trackpad button, however its usefulness doesn't end.there. the.ability to.scroll through text to edit without endlessly, 'push and pray' u get it in the right spot I would.imagine would get lost as well. The trackpad also can seek in some flash players too.

Okay. So this is not possible at all? Because i can edit text by zooming in on the website...
-steve
It doesn't seem to be possible... or if anyone has figured out how they don't want to share. Editing the kl files doesn't work like it does for other hardware buttons. Here's my thread asking the same thing:
[Q] Can't remap optical joystick?
would this be possible
if you were to look at the file text for the real home key maybe if you copy-pasted that txt into your trackpad txt file it would do the same function .......just a thought
Just got the SGIII and my GNex is now my 16 month old daughters learning device. We installed a whole bunch of baby stuff but the problem is she keeps hitting the home button and exiting the app.
The phone is rooted and I am running the Nova launcher so I could remove all the navbar buttons... But then I won't be able to exit some apps if there isn't a built in exit option...
My idea was to add a HOME button to the power button menu. That way I would have a way to exit but my daughter shouldn't be able to figure it out so easily. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I'm running Codename Android ROM but I'd change if there was one that would work better.
Also, does anyone know how to disable the google search option when you drag your finger up from the bottom... I can't stand it, I always seem to do it by mistake myself.
Thanks,
Jim
i dont think this is possible..
Ok I figured as much. Any other ideas how I could hide home button but still have access to it via some other means?

This sounds exactly what you're after. It lets you remove/restore the navbar from the power menu, preventing unwanted exits.
Hi guys,
Was wondering if anyone knows how to remap the buttons on the Note II. I have looked in a few Galaxy S3 forums to not much help.
What i'm trying to do is have the Menu button for recent apps, and long press it for the menu. Maybe hold down the home key for Google voice search or something as we all know how good S-Voice is. Not.
So any ideas? I found where all the data is in /system/usr/keylayout ... cant see 'recent' or something similar in any of those files but there is various 'HOME' and 'MENU' but im not sure which to change.
Other information
ROM: Android Revolution HD (4.1.1)
GT:N1700
ROOTED
Cheers

Hi, as far as i know the feature to remap the soft keys is only possible with a Custom ROM, but to remap the home button i know how to do that if your interested.
You can remap them with launchers, nova launcher for example.

I haven't tried this myself, but can you swap the key numbers in Generic.kl (/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl) to get what you want?
has anyone looked into this yet? I think many people, especially coming from the Gnex would like to remap
Any figure this out yet?
I'd like to make make long pressing back button activate recent apps, and long pressing home button activate the multitask side bar on my Galaxy Note 2.
I know Nova Launcher can do it, but I'm using Go Launcher which I don't think has that feature.

Yes, I also hear Apex can do it too. Problem is I've finally gotten my phone customized the way I like, and Go Launcher is a big part it that. So I don't want to give it up. Was hoping there's another way to remap the buttons.

Thanks for the link. Wanted to comment on that thread and ask for a custom mod for the settings I want, but unfortunately xda won't let me post in development threads because I have less than 10 comments. Kinda annoying.

I would like to nulify my back button on my Samsung Note II. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
I smaller hands and have continually found it difficult to reach the back button with my thumb all the way across the phone (I wasnt aware until now that I almost always hold my phone in my left hand).
It occured to me that my problem would be solved if the menu button and the back arrow could switch functions. Is there a simple way to do that? I'm rooted, running stock with ktoonsez kernel and Apex launcher.

The easiest way to re-map the buttons is to go to the playstore and get
the app called "Tasker" it can remap buttons and do a lot of other things.
It's more or less a one of a kind application.
Good luck!
Couldn't find anything about this anywhere, so I'm starting a new thread.
Is there a way to remap what application loads when long-pressing the home soft-key? I've remapped what app loads when holding the volume-up key with the screen-off, but I'm looking to have a specific application run when holding the home button soft key, instead of the default "google" option that appears when doing it on the stock ROM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as would the monitors moving this thread to its proper location if it should belong somewhere else :good:
We'll need root.
I wish OEMs would include this level of customization by default. I wouldn't mind having my home button long press either launch my camera or the App Swap app and have my recent button long press switch to the last app.

Thank you. I was hoping there might be a workaround (like KeyPlus) or an app like Home2Shortcut which I used on my SGS5 to accomplish that change. Oh well. Guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing: patiently waiting for root to drop whenever the dev's involved feel it's ready! Thanks for the quick reply!
