Stupid noob question but if I install cm6 on my g2 and an ota update comes out how will I get it??

Nope, you will not. Chances are whatever the update has, CM will either already have it or will incorporate it in one of their own updates.

Its just a maintenance release, it tweaks some things, upgrades your radios, upgrades the kernel, and adds a few new programs. If you want this update, search the forums for the latest sprint ruu and flash it...if i were you, i wouldnt bother with it, u wont notice anything. You won't see gingerbread till sometime early 2011

After getting my replacement G2 I found it had the 2.3.3 update from T-Mobile on it. I was wondering if it was safe to root with using the method from the XDA wiki or not.
Base Number is 2.13.531.8 CL56018 release-keys
if that helps at all
2.3.3 for the G2 currently isn't rootable yet. However, the guys at #g2root are currently working on it.
Thank you, I guess I have to sit and wait then =/
The only reason I would want it rooted is for dsp manager and kernel. Other than that the official release is pretty damn smooth

I wanted rooted because of Cyanogenmod, other roms when I am in the mood for it, and good root apps
I have done a search so save me the bull**** about doing a search is there an update for the HTC EVO 4G I am rooted running mik ROM 3.0 and haven't had a notification about an update but I have heard rumors about an update. If there is what android version is it and will it mess my root up?? Also is there a ROM that gives me the option to lock my phone and the only way to unlock it is by voice?? Just a few questions thanx for any help

Are you looking for the latest stock rooted rom? If so I'm pretty sure u can find it in the development section. Or are you trying to unroot and go back to stock? And if your running mikg I'm pretty sure you won't receive update notifications for the evo from sprint. Not sure what your trying to accomplish man.

Dont worry about updates from Sprint. As soon as anything would come out, Devs work them into their ROMS. There should not be anymore for us.

Yea, if you are running a custom rom, you won't get update notifications from sprint, as you arent running a sprint rom. Just check your rom's thread for any updates.

Correct. If you were on a sprint sense rom and took an OTA, there's a minimal chance you could lose root [I've seen it happen], so as said, check the thread of your rom for updates/patches.
Sorry for even having to ask this question but this is my first Android device coming from ios. I found mixed results everywhere online.

The custom ROMs themselves will be updated to the latest Android releases as they come out.

If you mean OTA (Over The Air) updates then no you will not. In order for OTA update to install you need the stock recovery, not Clockwork.
However once the updates are released the developer of the Rom you are using will update also and you can then flash the latest version.
...my one v was having signal issues so I exchanged it for another ($100 back too, Radio Shack having a black friday deal, haha) and I want to go ahead and root & flash but I've been reading a lot about the update. Right now my software version is 1.08.652.6. There's an update available to get me to 1.08.652.11.
if i update will it screw me in terms of flashing roms & kernels?
Why's it matter if you want to flash another ROM anyways? Don't do the ota update who knows.
