why buy an android phone to put windows on it?
windows is for computers.
android is for phones.
apple is for idiots.
I buy android so I can put anything on my phone

Windows 7 is about 20 gigs..it would have to be a ridiculously compact version.
XP install is only about 4 gigs, much more feasible.
Windows 7 phone. Its for T-Mobile I want that software

This is futile.
There is a better chance of a pretty good win7-like clone that's android based.

That's for sure especially considering HTC has made some pretty spectacular windows phones hardware wise. Just look at the HD2 it's almost a clone of the EVO. I'm sure we'll see some nice windows phone 7's by HTC coming out soon.
There porting palm pre software right now. I'm sure they can get windows software. I love android bc of the ports we get

If im not mistaken, the evo would be the copy, since the hd2 runs winmo 6.5 and we had winmo 6.5 way before we had 4g

Do the Tmobile Galaxy s2 have the same chipset as the hp touchpad? So would hp webos work on this phone? Since webos is open source now and has anyone ported it to anything yet?
thanks, btw im new so my questions may seem dumb. lol.
Ween is is meant for tablets not phones and even if we could port Web OS to the galaxy S2, somebody would have to program the kennel and that's not very easy. what do you wanna do with Web OS anyway, Android is much better?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
why would you want WebOS?
people are buying webos stuff and trying to put android on it...
I would rather not have that junk near my phone nice idea though. There is a reason why everyone who bought a touch pad put Android on it.

That's a good start. WebOS isn't "junk" by any stretch of the imagination. It was/is a nice OS that was a victim of poor decisions on HP's part.

Web OS is great I use it more often than android Web OS is visually better than android 2.3. If you want a Web OS device Im sure you can get a palm 3 for 250.00 which is a nice device with no support.
the HP tablet and our phone does have almost identical spec, except for the screen size
but i would NEVER install that piece of crap Web OS in our phone even if it'll run on our phone

You do realize that a large portion of ICS was stolen from WebOS when Matias Duarte left HP for Google. WebOS is still the best UI and the best for multi-funcionality, better than android and better than iOS. Don't confuse crappy HP with the product itself because WebOS is quite good, it's just that HP had no clue what to do with it.

I don't consider webOS junk at all, just because you prefer to use android doesn't exactly mean that all other mobile OS's are inferior in any way. I would like to see alternative roms for a phone that aren't just Android. Would make purchasing a phone allot more of a fun experience in my opinion.
i had a touchpad before, the multitasking on it was so smooth but sadly hp launched the touchpad late compare to the other tablets on the market. It was destined to sell poorly
It sold poorly because it came to the market late and was sort of underpowered for webOS.
Android is a great operating system, but webOS now that it's open source, would be a great addition to the SGS2.
What's great about webOS is the multitasking experience and it's built upon open web technologies.
I'd flash webOS on my SGS2 if it were available. Kinda doubting it though
I was really hoping to find something productive in this thread. I like webOS and would still own a webOS device if HP would have created a device that wouldn't fry when I plugged it into a charger. I loved the os that was very fun and easy to use.

So I came across this article and thought it would be pretty cool. Our Galaxy S3s have enough processing power so it seems like it would work pretty well. The only thing is that some 3rd party ubuntu programs might be incompatible due to our ARM processors.
If this takes off, I can see a lot of places where this would be useful.
**** yea I would.
Ubuntu has been ported to android before....there's a port for the epic 4g, it was pretty fully featured, just the epic 4g had a single core hummingbird and 300megs of ram lol it ran so slow but perfectly, so imagine on the s3

saw that too!
looked very impressive, and that's cause it's running on dinosaur hardware compared to our gs3s lol
Check out the "Complete Linux Installer" app in the market. Runs Ubuntu in a chroot jail on your phone then connects to it via ssh and/or vnc. I'm using it with Debian.

Ubuntu has a version for with arm support already built in the kernel so it shouldn't be hard to port over, the only thing is driver's.

I'm waiting for Ubuntu for Android to finally show its face!
This would be sick! Much better than the Atrix "desktop." We'll be at the point in a couple years where you don't need to carry around a laptop. Just a "phone," maybe with a built-in projector. If only the batteries could hold their own.

Too bad the projector is only 15 lumens and it can't go desktop mode, unless you consider Android with a keyboard+mouse desktop mode.
As for phones replacing laptops/computers in the coming years, I can definitely see that happening. Once our phones have the processing power and a new better battery technology starts being used, I imagine that cell phones will revolutionize everything. Instead of needing computers, you can just connect your 3Ghz 8GB RAM phone to a 4K OLED monitor and boot into Ubuntu. This, obviously, won't happen for another few years but I can really see this becoming reality.

I'd definitely be interested in webOS, I actually REALLY like that OS
Considering that the last OTA version of webOS for phones came out in December 2011 and that the App Catalog currently has less than 10,00 apps (and dropping), I think I'll stick with Android. It would be interesting to see it running on an Inc2, but it seems like it would merely be a novelty.

having had the palm pre, dont bother
webos is neat, but the device is so crappy/small/cheap its not worth spending 5 minutes with
there is a lot of open webos development on the touchpad, and its a much better implemenation of it....if you can pick one up cheap, thats a better route to go

I'm definitely interested in taking Ubuntu for a test drive, but I do have a few concerns:
1 - There is no lock screen, but the phone is still somehow secure. I don't feel great about that. Having a lock screen in place gives me the added peace of mind that if my phone is lost or stolen, I know that my data will be initially secure, and will probably remain secure until I remotely wipe the device.
2 - I'm not sure how I feel about a completely gesture-driven device. I had the original Palm Pre at the time, and I didn't find myself using the gestures unless I absolutely needed to (i.e. closing out cards, going back in the browser, etc.). Thankfully, the phone was a hybrid of gestures and physical hardware buttons. There won't be any hardware buttons on any Ubuntu phone.
3 - The device unity selling point doesn't sell me. I'd never use my phone as my home computer. My desktop and laptop are far more robust in terms of capability than any phone, and I'd rather just use those.
4 - I'm having a hard time believing that desktop-grade applications will run smoothly on a phone. Sure, developers will be encouraged to bundle a mobile interface, but I'm not sold on the notion that someday in the near future I'll be playing Portal 2 on my phone.
5 - The home screen looks crazy. I'm not a huge fan of the hodgepodge that will be files, media, and apps strewn about the home screen. In hindsight, I like the process existing mobile OS's take to reduce clutter. Open the app, then open media recognized by the app. That process keeps things clean.
Ubuntu isn't exactly easy on the eyes, either. That magenta-y, orange-ish theme is hideous. Even the font that they use sucks. Undoubtedly, however, that can be fixed through themeing the rom. However, I love stock rom experiences, so I know that a theme would irk me. Just my OCD, I guess.
It's core strength is multi-tasking, of which I'm very interested in. It seems to be very intuitive. I'd love to play around with that.
Web-based apps on the phone are definitely intriguing.
I didn't really care for the dig that they made on Android regarding Java. Java was put in place for rapid application development. On lower-end phones, I can see a Java environment being overhead on the operating system, but with my Optimus G, it hardly even knows its there. The OG is a beast.
I'm definitely going to be paying attention to the developments made with Ubuntu Mobile. I'll be dusting off my GNex when the image does get released.
