[Q] Touch screen is not responding at all...pls help.!!!!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone was working fine until evening. But when i install the new SPRINT LOVERS rom on it, it takes horribly long time to boot up and just stay on the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen for considerable amount of time. When it finally booted, i was not able to use the touch screen. It is not responding to my touch at all.
Though the hardware keys (POWER & VOL KEYS) are working fine in the recovery mode.
I tried installing 3-4 different roms but none of them helped.
Now it is not even showing the red led light on connecting the usb cable.
PLus it takes horrible long time to start up.
As i mentioned before, that it works fine in recovery mode.
And the biggest mistake i made was that i forgot to do nandroid backup and i deleted my previous nandroid backup files like a week ago.
Help me out guys, I know ur best. I am feeling like an handicap without my phone.

good luck bro!

Do a complete wipe before flashing a new rom.
Sent from my CM6.1 Powered device

If I were you I would try starting from scratch and flashing the original Sprint RUU

flash a different ROM or kernel

Remove battery and replace.
Reload Amon_Ra's recovery.
Reload a new copy of the rom and reflash. Move it to your sdcard in adb (mount, push ) or simply take the sd chip to your laptop.
You do get one shot at loading your "old rom's" apps from market, after the first invoke of market it will only remember the paid and loaded apps at closing.
Who's recovery were you using ?

Has already tried all that but even the complete fresh install didnt even work.
But my phone is not letting me install rom through RUU, It says that phone is not detected.
But when i plug in the charger, i can see the symbol of charging and usb debuging in the notification area.
I am using clockworkmod recovery

You need to switch to aman ra recovery. That will help. Clockworkmod recovery doesn't play nice with the new software and hardware and doesn't wipe as good. You will save alot of headaches by switching recoveries. Do a search on here and you should be able to find a flashable zip you can load from the bootloader.

[Q] stuck on htc screen after using rom manager

Help! I just rooted my new Desire with the unrevoked method. Then I installed Rom Manager, saved its recovery mode and backed up my ROM. Everything seemed to go well enough, but now my Desire is stuck endlessly rebooting to the HTC Screen.
I can access the Clockmod Recovery screen however. I've tried the system reboot option but that just gets me the Htc screen rebooting again and again.
I'm pretty much a newbie to this and didn't want to choose another option (wipe data/factory reset, restore saved rom) without checking it out as I don't want to brick my new Desire.
Could someone give me a step by step plan for recovering my Desire?
Many thanks,
Joe
Nice thing you have a nandroid backup. Just restore the backup. it should work.

You have to wipe all the data and just flash a new Rom.

stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Thanks for this. A couple of other newbie questions. As I understand it, I wipe the data using the Recovery option, and I found the how to flash a rom instructions. If I want a stock rom (like the one that came with the Orange Desire here in the UK) where would I get that? And do you think it might work if I restored the first backup I made, or do you think that's faulty...
Thanks again,
Joe
stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Things went from bad to worse. My battery seemed to stop charging so I wasn't able to get back to the recovery screen, and when I plugged the desire into the computer via the usb cable I simply got a flickering htc screen. I've had to send it back to Orange.
This experience has certainly made me leary of rooting and using rom manager again!
Does anybody have any explanation of what went wrong?
Joe
When the phone gets stuck in that loop when its trying to boot it wont charge, im not sure why.
The same thing happend to me using Rom manager. (maybe its a bug with the new version, or maybe we just didnt use it right)
I managed to get my phone to charge by taking out the battery and putting it back in ... so the phone was off, put it into the charger until it was fully charged and then did the recovery.
Battery affected by rom manager?
There's an addendum to this story. I replaced my Desire but had the same problem again, which seemed to be down to the battery in the end. Is it possible that the (virtually new) battery was affected by either rooting or rom manager backing up the rom? It seems very weird!
Joe
This might work for you
Remember to power down your Desire totally and charge it for about 2 hours or so (just to be safe) and continue.
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
Ta
Thanks for the long reply. Sadly, I'm unable to test it out as I had to return my phone to Orange. I'm still rather mystified by what happened in the end (how could rooting affect a battery?) but I'll keep your reply on hand in case it happens next time I root.
Joe

Rooted DINC, can't get past recovery?

Just rooted my new DINC, got into the main screen. Went into Clockwork and flashed a nandroid from a different device. Now I cant even get back into CWM. If I hold down and power I get hboot, but anything after that gives me 5 vibrations and blinking green lights. wtf?>
I can actually see CWM for a second, then i get the errors. Is there a bootable CWM, like the NookColor?

not really that i know of
best bet is to ruu back to stock and start over
EDIT: first link i sent wont help you

put this on your sdcard, rename to PB31IMG.ZIP
boot into hboot, when it asks to apply the update, say yes
give that a shot
for future reference, nandroids from phones are not interchangeable
I dont know how to use ADB, and that tutorial assumes you can run zips via recovery, which I cant...
Isn't there a PMBTG113.zip or whatever file I can boot off of in recovery that will restore my phone to stock

Do you have a micro sd card reader that you can put into your pc or laptop? You need to get that PB31IMG on the root of your card. Then get into hboot to flash.

Yea, I put it onto the root, applied the PB31IMG and rebooted. Same fcking problem. WTF?!?!
DroidHam,
try pulling the battery, wait around 10 minutes, put the battery in and boot the phone. Yes, it is very important to wait for that long.
Post your results if it booted or not, i had the same issue.
Also let me know if this is a refurbished phone.
ya its a refurb...
I downloaded this:
build-3.26.605.1-release-152016-baseband-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000_PB31IMG
Renamed it and it flashed. Then when I rebooted, it doesn't show me CWM anymore, just the HTC screen, a "popping, kind of electric noise", and then 5 vibrations and blank screen, with green blinking LED.
I downloaded the restore above, and renamed it. It doesn't allow me to flash it. It scans it, but never gives me the option to press up to flash.
Keep in mind, S-ON is now set, whereas it was S-Off before.
Previously I was seeing CWM for a split second then it would crash. I dont see CWM anymore but its still crashing at the same point.
If I copied a nandroid backup onto a different phone, it cant be COMPLETELY ****ed right? Just needs to be rebuilt somehow?
So when I put the battery back in in 10 minutes, should I reflash that RUU I mentioned above, or what?

How do I root if i can't get past hboot??!
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
I attempted to root a new Incredible for a friend and had the same thing happen a few days ago. I was able to create a nandroid backup via CWM recovery, and then flashed CM 6.1. CM then bootlooped when trying to boot for the first time. After this point I was unable to get into recovery. The screen would just go blank and would vibrate multiple times. At one point I did manage to succesfully get into CWM recovery without the screen going blank, but then recovery would not recognize the SD card. I restarted and was never able to get back into recovery.
I then attempted to flash a PB31IMG.ZIP from HBOOT that was supposed to restore it to factory state. At this point the phone when blank in the middle of flashing and would not do anything other than vibrate when I would attempt to power it on.
I told them the phone just inexplicably died and they exchanged it at the Verizon store. Everything went perfect with the replacement phone. I figured what happened was a one time thing, but after reading this I would definately be hesitant to root anyone elses Incredible.
Do all phones have hboot?? I don't wanna get screwed. But this was sent was Asurion.... i really need to fix this. There must be a way please!!!

Just got off work... do the battery pull, wait 10 min, then the start phone see what happens.
I'm not sure at what point you are with the RUU image at this point so take out your sd card just to be safe.
You are getting into the Qualcomm diagnostic mode, which is basically 5 buzzes and then the green light keeps flashing green correct?
I will be on and off for the next few hours to see your results.

[Q] Advanced Ace Hack Kit issue

Earlier today, I ran the updated 15/10/11 version of the ace hack kit. Like it was suggested, I read through the manual then I re-read it and re-read it again. As suggested, I disabled / uninstalled all security software on my pc and the other superfluous services. Ran the executable drivers file then I set the phone to charge only and usb debugging was ticked.
I then ran the hack-ace.cmd file as administrator and let the program do it's thing.
It appeared to have completed without any glitches in the suggested 6 minutes.
However, on the phone, all was not well. Since running this, the screen remains blank. When I power on, I get the HTC logo and then it disappears / disintegrates into a blank screen and nothing happens.
The only reason I ran this was to get rid of the irritating apps that I never use but have to Kill every day.
Can anyone help to overcome this problem? This was a replacement handset that I had to fight with my insurance company to get only for this to happen.
I am literaly at my wits end.
Thanks

Yes this is the best thing to do. Something must have corrupted your stock ROM. If AAHK completed properly, then you should have ClockworkMod recovery installed.
The first thing I did was install 4EXT recovery but thats not necessary, that was just a personal choice.
So these are the steps you should take:
1: Download a new ROM and put it on your SD card in a convenient place (I recommend the RCMIX32 Runny 3.1 ROM)
2: Remove the battery and reinsert the battery
3: Hold down the volume down button and then hold down the power button. You will get to a white screen with some green robots on the bottom. This is the bootloader screen. You will have to wait a bit for it to finish scanning the SD card. It will tell you when it is finished
4: Use the volume buttons to select recovery and press the power button to select it
5: After a few seconds the recovery environment will appear
6: Go to the wipe menu. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache (and system if you have the option. I havent used Clockworkmod in a while so I cant really remember what options you have there)
7: Go a few menu's back and select Install zip from SD card
8: Select the zip file
9: Press yes on the confirmation screen
10: When it is finished, click reboot now. It might be on the menu back
This will install a new ROM and it should work properly. If you have any problems along the way just say and we will help to the best of our ability
Thanks for the responses.
I don't think ClockworkMod is installed as there are no options available when I select recovery. It just reboots the device back to the HTC splash screen which as mentioned then fades / deteriorates to a black screen. I had tried the Android HD Revolution rom but no difference.
One thing I did yesterday in my panic was to select 'Factory reset'. Will this have usb debugging setting?
Finally, when I connect to a pc, it doesn't see it. Is this because it's still set on charge only mode?
I'm probably my own worst enemy
If you finally press "Factory reset" you will reset USB debugging, then you can't root your phone using this tools kit. Try to reinstall the stock rom.
If you didn't root your DHD. Phone may still under warranty.
Hi Guys
I've managed to get this back up and running again.
After a lot of playing about with various file downloads last night, I finally managed to get my pc to see the phone. After that, I just downloaded a stock rom and installed it.
After this fright, I am reluctantly going to stick with this and not bother with rooting / custom roms.
Anyway, many thanks for all your responses, I really appreciate the time you took to helpo me out.
This forum absolutely rocks.
Hi,
I've just downloaded, I read the 'effen' manual and then ran ace-hack, it seems to have worked except I can't see clockwork mod recovery?
I can see superuser and ROMmanager, is it still ok to try and download and flash a custom ROM?

Well to confirm my noob status I have now found that clockwork mod recovery is indeed installed (I assume you're not meant to be able to see it as an app as it sits at a lower level).
I downloaded the CM7 ROM, so have booted up into recovery mode, have wiped/formatted as instructed but when I choose the zip file from SD card it appears to start then aborts installation...help!!!!

Did you check the MD5 Checksum of the .zip before you copied it to your SD Card? as it might is some way have got corrupted.
Here is a link to what I always use before I copy anything to my SD Card or install on my OS System:- MD5 Check 2.1.
Take Care

Thanks!
I'm all sorted (I think, fingers crossed).
It was principally because of the mac unzipping (Safari preferences not checked), this was the original and prime fault.
That caused me to doubt my partitions on the SD card (google is sometimes your enemy) which I altered.
So what then happened was CM7 installed but upon reboot looped continuously on the android skateboarding screen.
I finally resorted to formatting the SD Card, reapplying the CM7 zip and the google zips and so far it looks good.
Of course I (me and me alone) has stuffed up all the user data I had on the SD card. I might try to recover some photos but stuff like contacts I can regenerate no major loss there.
Thanks for replying!!
CM7 - the experience thus far
Well its 72 hours since I took the plunge!
Initially it looked odd and felt flakey, the Market refused to download 80% of the apps I tried. I resolved this (not sure if it was the right way) by going into recovery and clearing the cache 2-3 times and eventually downloaded all of my old apps.
Some apps cause frequent force-closes, I assume because they've not been updated for Gingerbread? Thats a very minor irritant, I can easily live without these apps anyway.
Battery life hasn't noticeably altered yet but I suppose I have been constantly been tinkering, playing with settings, trying wifi (seems a little less sensitive to signals) and gauging how the radio is working - I seem to get HSPDA a lot less and resort to 3G more than I previously did?
So, done it, like it despite some minor reservations - now what, is there anything else I can do to improve the experience?
I must add one thing this has shown me - I really really know very little about what goes on under the hood. Despite 20+ years experience in CIS this is a very different world and all credit to those who have developed CM7!!
Please help if you can.. please
Hello!!
I am desperately seeking some guidance. Please.
So, I used to have a HTC Inspire 4G and in June I rooted it successfully.. then installed Cyanogenmod 7 etc.. everything worked great. I unfortunately lost the phone and because of insurance got a new one.
When I rooted the first time I used the old school method that was in the XDA forum.. ADB..etc.. but today... with the new replacement..
I downloaded Advance ace hack kit 29102011 (ahhk 29102011.zip) which after reading all the stuff I thought would be just a quicker way to get rooted. I used the same PC that I used before.
This time, unfortunately I am getting a black screen, right after the HTC splash screen shows up.. it fades to black.
I can get to the "Hboot" screen but removing the battery, then restarting by holding the power and the down vol button.
Tried Factory reset.. still fades to back
Tried Recovery .. still fades to back
The device will not be recognized on my laptop when connected to USB..
Am I stuck? Do I have any options?
I should have done what I did before.. but am at a loss right now.. will you please help me.
Please.
Thanks a million in advance for your responses.
Please help.

[Q] Desire HD -> root -> MIUI -> borked

Hello all! Noob alert, first post and everything, sorry to bother you.
I'm not sure whether this is the right place to do it, but I couldn't find a solution to this problem by searching the threads, etc, so, I'll try to be brief.
I've been planning to root my phone for a long time, but unfortunately have been blocked by the OTA update I had, until now. And now my beloved phone is stuck in the flickering MIUI load screen.
Steps that led to this point:
* I had the latest OTA update in the phone.
* I backed up stuff, naturally.
* I had ROM Manager installed
* I used aahk to root the phone, that worked out fine.
* I downloaded the MIUI rom for DHD from miuiandroid.com
* I gave ROM Manager root access.
* I restarted to clockworkmod recovery mode, selected fourth(?) option, to install a rom, I chose the MIUI rom, and said yes, I really want to do this, then selected reboot the system now.
* I watched this epidemic for 15 minutes and tried to detach the battery and see what happens. When I started the phone again, it's still doing the same thing.
So, what actually looks like is happening, is MIUI starting, then starting again, and again and again...
Is there anyway to recover from this, or am I a lost case?
Thank you.
yap it is a solution to bring your phone to life just instal the drivers on your pc and download your RUU version , if you have s-off just download the RUU 2.36.405.2 good luck my phone works , if it work give me a thanks
Pull out the battery, put it back in, hold down the volume-down key, hold down the power button, keep them held until you boot back into the bootloader, choose recovery to get back into clockworkmod recovery, wipe system, data, etc and reflash the ROM zip the same way you did first time round.
From your post it doesn't look like you wiped your data partition before flashing your new ROM, so I'd guess that there's some stuff left from your stock install that doesn't play nice with MIUI.

And now that you're back .. instead of trying standard MIUI from MIUI.us/miuiandroid.com .. try SCI MIUI or Freshly Squeezed. Better tested, better performance ..

Hey,
Hope you're liking MIUI! I've just went back to it myself. This isn't an advertisement or anything but try 4ext recovery from the market. It's like cwm, but when you select a ROM .zip file when you're on your phone, you can select to use the app 4ext and then it'll give you options like back up, wipe cache, wipe data etc. I use it all the time as I hated pressing the down button in cwm all the time lol. It seems pretty good, and ask others on here. Then you don't need to really do anything, as that boots into recovery, backs up your rom, wipes, installs new rom, and can fix permissions (I do this just incase), then boots your phone again.
But, I don't know if cwm (Clockworkmod) does this, as I haven't used it since I got this. I don't really open rommanager anymore.
But talk to others about it first, as being new to rooting and everything all this may seem a bit over the top or confusing or stuff =) Hope you enjoy miui! Here's a tip, hold the home button on the lock screen for the torch. Handy instead of unlocking the phone, trying to find the app and stuff.

[Q] Help-Can't boot.

Background Info
So, my DHD had a problem with the mic so I sent it to a local mobile phone store to see if they could repair it. After 3 weeks, they called me and told me there was nothing that could be done since the mic was in the motherboard and they can't change that.
I got my phone yesterday and and noticed traces and dents from using a normal screwdriver to open the led case. Apart from that and the fact that they took 3 weeks to repair nothing, everything else was ok. However, I had a custom ROM installed and when I got it, they had installed a new one whose name I can't remember ("something"-revolution maybe).
Actual problem:
It worked fine for a night but the next day, I couldnt move the ring to unlock the screen. I restarted it,k tried without sd card or sim, changed batteries and nothing. I just freezes in the "Insert pin code" screen and won't let me input anything.
I had CWR but it seems they deleted it and now I have 4ext which can only be used with touch input which doesn't even work in 4ext. (The volume and power buttons work fine).
Final thoughts
What can I do? Since there is no way I can use 4ext or anything in order to factory reset...
I am really mad at the store which f***ed up my phone but I am traveling next week and I really need my phone.
Anything I could do to factory reset?
Thanks in advance
I don't know how this works against the rules, but would it be okay to post that store's name so that others can avoid it? It sounds like they are not trained for this type of repair. I would hate for others to find out the hard way as you did.
Store
Oh, don't worry. I live in Spain and they only work nationally so I guess you don't have to worry about it. But the name of the store: MovilCom
If I understand you correctly your phone is rooted and you can access 4ext recovery? If so:
Download one of the custom roms from the development forum, there are a lot of good roms but I recommend Android Revolution HD if you are a beginner.
Place the rom file on your sd card.
Enter recovery by holding down the volume down button and pressing the power button when the phone is off.
Select the option to do a full wipe.
Select install from sd card, look for the rom file you downloaded and install. It should work now.
NOTE: this will erase all the content from your phone and give you a fresh rom install.
That won't work

Click to collapse
I tried doing that but I can't use 4ext since the touch screen doesn't seem to respond. Before, I hade CW and I could have probabbly flashed a ROM already but as I said, the screen appears to be responseless in 4ext and in normal boot (I can't even input my pin code)
No solution...
So, I downloaded a RUU.exe from a stock Gingerbread version with Sense 2.0 (The unlicking system is the old slide down to unlock bar, not the ring) and the problem remains. When I bot, the touch screen is completeley response less. What can this be?
I am beginning to think this might actually have something to do with hardware? Maybe some wire is lose?
Thanks in advance
